Uh - I actually don’t use much mosquito spray . It’s horrible for you to start with so I only use it when hiking in the bush - which only happens a few times in the summer at the lake . I use a 10 year old can of Off , lol. DEET is not permitted for sale here either . I had no idea there was such a thing as clothing with repellent !

Very happy with my Garmin Fenix 8 but I also wanted some of the hiking and mapping stuff. You could probbaly get away with the Venu and be perfectly happy.

We've been twice and both times did tours with Etna People: https://www.etnapeople.com/ If you do a tour with them (which I highly recommend) they have coats and hiking boots you can use at no extra cost. That said, when we went in September we didn't need a coat, so I don't think you will need one in July. When we went in April we definitely needed it.

This is Quin. He escaped at a rest stop and hid in the woods for 30 to 45 minutes and it was hot out. This was the two minutes inbetween recapturing him and getting him water. He’s all good! EDIT: he was panting because it was really hot outside and he had been running around while wearing a fur coat. He’s always been fine in the car. He’s not stressed nor experiencing respiratory illness. He panted for 30 seconds to cool down and has been totally normal ever since. I’m just a normal guy living in the PNW. I have two dogs and I often hike around in the spring and summer days. There is a particular hike that I like to do with my dogs because the trail is along a river (they love to swim) and it’s one of those trails that no one really knows about. I’ve been hiking it for about 6 years now and I’ve never seen another person out there. One of my dogs is reactive, so having a place where I never worry about running into another person or dog is perfect for me. April of last year I loaded my dogs up and drove us to the trailhead. We got out and started hiking around. About 2 miles in I came across a tree that someone had used red rope and large nails to tie up (what I think is) a cow’s tongue, and nail it to the tree. The tongue itself was tied tightly, or bound with rope. Then they used big nails to nail it to a tree. There were two of them on one tree. Next to the tree in the river water there were large (again assuming cow) bones scattered. The dogs definitely started to act different, they seemed very uneasy. I looked around a bit to see if anyone was out there, or if there was someone who was maybe houseless and found camp there. But there was nothing around, and no signs of someone camping (trash, tent, fire, etc.). My dogs kept tucking their tails and would stop and look out as if something was near but I couldn’t see anything. I decided to turn back. Once we were fairly far from that tree the dogs started to loosen up again. That night I couldn’t stop thinking about it. A: it was all just very weird and B: I had never once seen anyone out that way. It’s one of those hikes where there is a bit of a hike to the trailhead, and the trail head doesn’t look like a trailhead. And the hike it’s self isn’t very easy. It’s rocky and wet. Worth it once you make it out about three and a half miles you get a nice flat beach all to yourself. I kept thinking about it every night for about a week. Then I decided to go back. I packed up my dogs got ready for the hike, and when I went back I couldn’t find it. But not just the tongues, but the tree. I couldn’t even find the tree where they were. I was looking all over. The tree had a somewhat unique lean to it. But I couldn’t find it. I felt around on the trees looking for nail holes, but nothing. I tried to look up what this could be online and all I could find was witchcraft or satanic spells. In short it seemed like some kind of ritual to help keep spirits or people quiet. There is a recreational area near me in northern Wyoming. I have hiked it about 4 times. It’s several miles of hiking along an nice river with cottonwood trees along its banks. A grassy meadow fallows along the side of the river. This tranquil river valley is walled in by river breaks with sparse pine and juniper trees. Most all fallow the trail along the river or thru the meadow. I have done that as well and always carry a quick rap to cover myself if I run into the occasional hikers. Recently I realized if I walked along the top of the bluffs alongside the river valley basically no one goes up there and I also get some cover from the trees. I had a wonderful hike with 65F in Feb. that is extremely rare in northern Wyoming at this time of year. Half way back I hear faint voices I turn to see 2 other hiker behind me and off to one side. I hadn’t noticed them. I see one of them hurry and grab his camera and take photos or video. I live in a fairly small community of I think about 19,000 pop.. I worry a little that it will show up on a facebook page and I will be recognized by some people in the area. The next day I get a call from a friend of mine from a Quaker group I occasionally attend. He says “ where you out hiking at the recreation area yesterday in all your glory?”. I admitted that yes that was me. He said I thought it was you and he said he thought it was wonderful that I did that. He also said he that it was one of the most beautiful things he had ever seen. He also said he wished he had the courage to try it. Also he said the guy that took the photos was a god guy and would not spread the photo around. It was nice to have my worries removed and wonderful words of acceptance and encouragement. It should also be noted that this story could have gone the complete oposite. p.s. This is the second time I have been captured on a camera. The first time also has a bit of a story as well. Hi all! I'm in need of some actual proper shoes to do hiking activities, I have been using leather sneakers with 0 thread for some time now. Last hike I told my friend I am no longer going hiking till I get new shoes as things are getting too dicey and I then proceeded to fall on my ass 1 hour later and get banged up, so I intend to stick true to that, haha... Hah... Ow. However, I have seen the long since debate of hiking shoes vs trail shoes and was just curious what more seasoned hikers would say fit the kinds of areas I hike in best. I have provided some images to give a rough idea of the kind of places I tend to hike at, they are places that tend to have greatly varying paths, from nice and calm dirt paths, to chunky rock, to outright steep bits where if you fall you are dead.
