Some bugs still pop up, but heck no. The game is way better now. The changes to combat are substantial compared to EA. I remember the ice skating and floaty feel to it before. It was bad.

I saw this post on Instagram yesterday right after the podium was announced and it just made my blood boil. This whole narrative of the overall difficulty level of figure skating declining since the Russians have been excluded really seems to be in bad faith to me. First of all we know for a fact that the Russian federation/training system pushes skaters to the absolute brink of what humans are capable of in order to assure Russian dominance. However we also know that their training is so abusive and intense that their skaters can only survive one Olympic cycle because their bodies are destroyed for the sake of quads. Russian skaters most certainly are amazing and have pushed the enveloppe for modern figure skating but at what cost? Additionally to the insane physical toll that their training takes on them, usually leading to them retiring after their first Olympics, the mental toll is also insane. You could tell that Adelia this week was on the brink of a mental breakdown after her free skate, having to skate through an injury, media pressure and ofc the demon reincarnated Eteri putting such a mental load on her. And we saw the same with Sasha Trusova last Olympics when she had literal mental breakdown/panic attack after not winning gold, feeling betrayed and used by her coaches. We also know for a fact that the Russians have absolutely no issue with doping their athletes, sur Kamila Valieva was caught but who knows which other Russian skaters have also done doping? So sure they can do quads, but we know they aren’t necessarily natural, which if more damaging to the sport than anything. Creating the standard that you can’t be competitive without having quads will lead to more doping and if not that it’ll lead to so many skaters pushing their physical limits too far and causing serious injuries. I’m sorry for this rant because I know most of you already know all of this information, my point is that that the scores may be lower this year because the female skaters don’t have any quads, but personally I would much rather never see a woman execute a quad again if that means she can protect her body, her mental health and her career. As we’ve seen, the cost of a quad on a skaters body is insane which is why most quad jumpers retire immediately after. I think it’s far more meaningful to have a longer lasting career, while taking care of your body and health than to only survive one Olympic cycle and land a million quads. At this years Olympics we’ve seen artistry, authenticity and sportsmanship win over everything. Our podium is three skaters who’s athleticism (number of jumps and quads) may not be up to par with that of the 2022 podium however our skaters this year either have had long careers (Kaori) or still have long careers ahead of them (Alysa and Ami) and to that’s far more meaningful than any number of quads. Now I’m sure there are safe ways to train quads which don’t destroy your body but I’d personally prefer to see my favorite skaters careers last longer than see them burn out after one season from pushing themselves. Either way, in my eyes artistry and creativity will always be my favorite part of this sport and I don’t think we should consider the level to be dropping simply because skaters aren’t doping or wrecking their bodies in the name of quads. I (27f) had a great idea that my boyfriend (43m) and I should go into town today to go ice skating. I'm new to being a midwesterner and thought it would be romantic. I've grown up in Tennessee where you might have rinks in the city but other then that our winters weren't cold enough to get any real frozen surface to practice on. I did used to inline skate for a while as a kid so thought those skills would translate. I've seen cute movies about winters, and I figured that I'm in the Midwest now and need to adjust and try new things. And I've seen the movies. You know, where he holds me up while I stumble at first until I figure out I can skate flawlessly on my own and we sail around the rink under twinkle lights? It's the first day of 2026 and we should do something fun together to set the new year expectations. Romantic. Fun. Right? Wrong! Hallmark you failed me! For the first 20 minutes I flailed and tripped and scootched around on the little red walker thing that only other *literal children* were skating behind. My boyfriend being the one skating flawlessly around the rink btw. I finally got confidence to pass the plastic walker to a 7 year old and kept on going. I actually went pretty far and then I went sailing... Right to the ground. Face first. I don't remember exactly how my feet tripped me up but I just remember laying on the ground with my ears ringing, I couldn't see well and I couldn't get up by myself and it was just like everything was in slow motion. My boyfriend comes over and leads me to a seat and gets me some ice for my face. I couldn't think straight and just started mumbling that my entire left side of my face is numb from how I hit it. Cue me throwing up and my nose bleeding like crazy, he rushes me to the ER. They make me wait for what feels like forever, all I wanted to do is go to sleep and get rid of my headache but my boyfriend wouldn't let me go to sleep 😭 I totally understood why, even in the moment but it just felt so mean, and like. Personal. Lol. Before they could give me anything for the pain I got two CT scans to figure out that my face was now fractured in two different places 🫠 Happy new year I guess, at least this is a way to make sure it'll be a bang up one for sure (For further context) They gave me a shot of something that helped almost immediately after they told me about my fractures and I felt like a person again. Sent me home with some pain meds and am going to follow up with a plastic surgeon to take a look. I feel fine now, all is good. Hello ice skating people!! So I’ve started my beginner journey on December 3. It is officially December 16 and so it’s been about two weeks or one and a half week (pick your poison). I’ve been to one LTS class where we learned forward marching and fall recovery as well as two foot glides. But I felt scammed as that’s all I learned so I proceeded to learn basics on my own. (When I’m comfortable in adult 1/2 I’ll take classes again) I’ve been practicing my basics and so I’ve gotten my forward/ backward swizzles down. I learned how to do a beginner stroke, but now I’m going into more of a forward stroke (so now my feet are more diagonal instead of a slight turn of the feet) I have been practicing my 2 foot turn and I am getting better, but I do want to perfect it as well as forward strokes( I think I still look clunky but am unsure if it’s because I’m just starting out with stroking). I definitely need more practice on stroking and being less wobbly and more confident. My one foot glides are also very weak. I haven’t started backwards skating yet besides, the backwards swizzles and I have learned a bunny hop which I didn’t do in the video. Any critiques you guys have for me is great!!And if there’s any ideas on what I should do next. I need tips! I need tricks! It will be greatly appreciated.
