My first kitchen as an interior designer
This was 3 years ago and I’ve done several more projects since, but wanted to share. A couple tips I wanted to share: - Mix metals. I chose unlacquered brass for my hardware but went with polished nickel for faucet + pot filler and it really elevated the space. - Mix hardware. It creates such a custom look when you have 3-4 different versions of the same hardware family. You can see I mixed knobs with pulls, and even the pulls were different sizes. - It’s an expensive upgrade but choose real stone when you can (or real materials in general). It really does make a world of difference. - Let the cabinetry sample live in your space for a few days, even a week or more, and see it in different lighting. Colors are chameleons and something on Pinterest could look completely different in your space. - Forego the open shelving and choose real storage. I went with reeded glass on some uppers to still bring in some airiness and light, but for functionality and storage, uppers were the correct move. Was really happy with how it turned out! I documented my entire reno process on my instagram and listed all sources if anyone is interested: www.instagram.com/halcyonhaus\_/ submitted by /u/Halcyon-Haus to r/AmateurInteriorDesign [link] [comments]

Maybe it's the nostalgia talking, but I really feel like the old Disney Store interiors were a triumph of immersive retail design.
They had so many intricate little touches, so much interesting detail everywhere around the store -- in this image, the storybook tableau in the top left corner, and the musical notes sculpted around the screen, are just so incredibly charming. It really had that touch of "Disney magic," that hard-to-articulate quality that Disney media, products, and physical spaces exude, carefully and meticulously crafted with great care and detail to create a sense of immersion that can beget a sort of childlike wonder. Ofc I have childhood nostalgia, like most Millenials and probably also Xers. But honestly I think part of why we have such nostalgia is that these stores were designed in a way that really did feel so magical as a child. submitted by /u/KoreKhthonia to r/disney [link] [comments]

Completed my first Interior Design Project. Client said not to publish. So yea, sharing it with you guys. Also sharing somethings that i learnt..
So yea, it’s been about a year I have started my own architecture practice. This is my very first project in Navi Mumbai. I am super happy with it and wanted to share the designs to magazines but the client has asked me to not share the pictures. I felt that i needed to show my work to you guys. Its been a great first year! Its full of hustle. Here are somethings that I learnt after finishing my first project- - Client to Designer Interaction is Important: I have previously worked in many design firms handling multi crore of projects. One thing i felt was that the main designers do not event come to see your project once its past the initial discussion. They send juniors to the site and let them do the troubleshooting. It leads to design not being executed properly. I have kept a policy of having one on one interaction and daily updates to the clients. They feel heard and they are always updated. - Clients need to trust the process: i feel very strongly that when you hire a designer to design a space for you so you have to let them design. Hear their concept first. Instead i have seen many people showing images taken from Pintrest and saying ki mujhe aise hi karke chaiye. It doesnt work that way. So clients need to trust the process of the architect. - Huge disparity in imagined budget to actual budget: Doing interior takes investment, you purchase a flat and if you want to get it beautiful, so its going to cost you certain amount if money. We try to keep your budget in mind while designing spaces. The more pintrest ideas you give, the more costlier it will get. Many clients come thinking that interior work is just a matter of few lakhs. No. Trust me. Do not go for “Livspace” interior, they are not designers, they are just salesmen. If it takes a lakh rupee extra to make your house turn up good. I would say to invest those lakh because no one renovates their house for next 10-12 years. Sketching: Designers nowdays just show references from websites and finalise to asap. Art requires you to sketch and brainstorm to find what suits you the best. I spend a day interacting with the client and noting down whats best for them and what they love then coming up with the best options. So find designers who are serious in designing. So these were my inputs. Do let me know what you feel about it! submitted by /u/sdd4u to r/navimumbai [link] [comments]

Why can’t I make my career in interior design?
Hey everyone, I am 24yo who graduated in spring 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in Interior Architecture and in spring 2022 with an associate’s degree in Interior Design. I moved to the Nashville area and could not find a traditional design job. I am currently working at a distributor or flooring, tile and countertops. While I don’t mind the job, it doesn’t feel right. I want to get into traditional firms but I cannot find any entry level jobs with little-to-no experience. I am afraid the further I continue to get away from graduation my skills will continue to disappear in tangible skills such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, etc. what should I do? Interior design has called to me since 9 years old, it’s been my dream and I do not want to mess it up… submitted by /u/Substantial-Crab445 to r/careerguidance [link] [comments]

Who regret to be in Interior design career?
Hi, i 've been commercial / hospitality interior designer for 12 years now, graduated from a very good design school in NY. i took hiatus from the job in 2020-2022 since i've felt burned out and I have PSTD recently when i go back to interior design job. The stress of design is driving up my anxiety and insomnia, as my brain is going on 100MPH after works, and stress me out when i know the deadline is approaching. There are tons of work , fast paced, last minutes changes, and clients are demanding. Collaboration with engineer, architect, lighting designer so you cannot really do the job at your own pace. Everyone is staying late, and you felt bad if you don't stay late/ and basically you have to stay late and no one will finish your portion. Recently i asked for part-time schedule which my employer agreed on. ( My employer has been very flexible with me with this since they like me.) But turns out i'm still working full time. Salary is 85K after i spend 12 years on it, and i started in 45K... This careerr is over saturated, and it is very competitive to look for a new company in my area. I'm also don't want to take over more responsibilities as i know it will basically work even more hours. When I look over project managers, they always work like 60 hours a week which i don't want to be like her... I'm planning to change career, but i'm in late 30s now, i'm so scared to change.. I've been thinking of medical field, x-ray tech or dental hygienist... a Job that I don't "bring the problem" home, which my mental health will suffer. Anyone has similar situation ?Also changed career after long time in this field? submitted by /u/nnnera to r/InteriorDesign [link] [comments]

Even after an interior designer, I'm still not happy
Hi everyone. Really need some help here. I paid an interior designer to design our living room and dining room. I wanted it in the Scandi style and followed all her recommendations. I already spent $$$ on custom made furniture but its still lacking that cost, "hyggae" of what I wanted. Any suggestions for decorations/changes to help with this? submitted by /u/ilovechaichai to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]
