I've been on this site since 2015. apparently I do better with competition than alone. I am hoping to find some people willing to do intermittent fasting and step competition to lose weight. Looking back on 6 years of intermittent fasting, still in disbelief & forever proud of accomplishing (and maintaining) my weight loss goals.
Height - 5’6” SW: 225lb / CW: 125lb / GW: n/a Fasting routine: 18:6 or 16:8, a few longer fasts throughout each month (24-48hr) Exercise: I’m a cardio girlie 🏃🏼♀️ Diet: low cal/calorie counting, nothing else Yes, I do have some loose skin but it’s tightened up over the years! It’s only really noticeable in my stomach/breasts and it’s quite subtle unless gravity plays a role like bending over or push ups in unsupportive clothing haha- nothing major though. Autophagy is the body’s cellular "cleanup" process that repairs, recycles, and removes damaged components to promote rejuvenation, triggered significantly by fasting. Intermittent fasting is a super power. It has changed my life.
I've never been out of shape aerobically or strength wise but I was always carrying an extra 20 pounds or more. And I never understood why (poor diet) or how to get rid of it. Then I discovered keto and intermittent fasting. Keto changed my life but the 20 pounds remained. Daily intermittent fasting (16:8 to 20:4) helped but still didn't create the change I wanted. Somehow I've progressed to the point that I can fast for a day or more and be comfortable doing it. I even forget I'm doing it. And guess what ? The pounds are falling off. I have complete control of my body weight now. And it is so simple - just don't eat ! Who needs Ozempic ? This is life changing. I now have complete control of my body weight, almost effortlessly. No diets, no rigorous exercise regimes, just fasting. Edit Something I forgot to mention is that I have a lot of muscle mass and I'm active. My daily average calorie burn is 3000 calories. I've heard a lot of people asking if intermittent fasting is effective for weight loss, so I wanted to share this in case it helps anyone
From my experience, it really depends on how you do it. At the end of the day, if our bodies are functioning properly, they are somewhat like an algebra equation. X number of calories in, minus Y number of calories burned is going to equal a change in body weight. Let’s say you are only eating during the last five hours of the day and you eat 2,000 calories, but your body needs 3,000 calories to maintain its body weight. Following our body’s algebra equation: you're going to lose weight. So intermittent fasting can be a tool - it can help you not think about food as often, save you some time with not having to prep or cook food, and also allow you to feel like you're still eating a lot, but staying within your caloric goals. That said, it’s not a magic fix. It causes you to enter into a binge cycle and this definitely isn’t the best approach. Intermittent fasting has severely damaged me
For the past year or so, I have been doing intermittent fasting. I probably get downvoted for this because most people in this sub are highly pro intermittent fasting. I just want to add my negative experience with it. Initially I felt great. My energy was good, I was losing fat, I saved a lot of time not having to prepare food. However, over time, many things went downhill. I started to feel cold, my energy was down the gutter, my sex drive declined, and I became a little neurotic about food. I was thinking about food constantly. I measured my hormones, and my estradiol and thyroid hormones are quite low (at the lower end of normal). I stopped intermittent fasting but recovery is stubborn, hormones somewhat improved but I only feel slightly better now. It has been about 1 month since I stopped but I still feel cold and sleepy and my personality is much less "bubbly" than it was before. Also, I need much longer to get going in the morning. My hair and skin are not as good as they were before. I am much more fatigued than before and it only barely got better after stopping. I started IF because so many people in online communities and fitness/health influencers are vouching for it. Unfortunately, my experience was not as "advertised". I researched this shit for many many hours. The best explanation I have found was in this article: My Experience With Intermittent Fasting In the article, that author describes his own experience, which seems to be very similar to mine. The author also goes quite detailed into the neuroscience of it. In the article, the author describes how intermittent fasting can cause hormone imbalances and also potentially lead to "metabolic programming". I believe this is what happened to me. If you are interested in this, I highly recommend the article - I found the article eye-opening I just want to put this out there. Before diving into intermittent fasting, it seems that the context is important. I did a lot of research and from different online forums, the scientific literature, and Reddit anecdotes it seems that people who are already lean and insulin sensitive are at much higher risk to be harmed. Conversely, people who are overweight and insulin-sensitive are much more likely to benefit from intermittent fasting. Is there anyone else who was damaged by intermittent fasting? I can't seem to wrap my head around why intermittent fasting works
I started this a month ago and have seen some amazing results. I have been reading up on it and i just cant figure out why consuming the same amount of calories per day but altering the time makes any difference. I know i am thinking too mechanically. The idea being if I put fuel into a car 10 times per day vs twice, it will still get me the same distance. If i put 1800 calories into my body per day, why does it matter what times of day. I have been reading on it and i understand that when insulin levels are low, the body starts burning fat for fuel. If you keep eating, insulin never drops and you never go into fat burning mode. I cant wrap my head around where the calories go though. If start eating at 7am and eat until 9pm but only consume 1800 calories in total, I am consuming less calories than my body needs and should burn some fat. So lets say i needed 100 calories per hour, and i was eating 80 per hour, i would burn 20 calories of stored energy per hour. If i fast and only eat from noon to 8pm, i might have a meal of 600 calories, meaning i have 500 calories more than my body needs in that hour. If insulin is low, that 500 excess becomes glucose and maybe some fat because my body has way more calories than it currently needs. I don't see why this is any different. My body might need 2000 calories and i give it 1600. Why is it that when fasting, my body consumes more fat to make up that 400 calorie deficit? Energy must be wasted somewhere if i burn more fat while fasting. I get glucose in the blood is low so it needs to burn more fat but why is that more beneficial for weight loss and less efficient for the cave man body that needs to make calories go as far as possible? submitted by /u/dano1066 to r/intermittentfasting [link] [comments]

Thanks to the person who said, "Try intermittent fasting. I only have coffee in the morning."
Sometime last week someone asked for help, and one of the replies was to try intermittent fasting. The poster said something along the lines of, "I don't eat until after noon. I only have coffee in the morning and save all my calories for later in the day." I had had a string of terrible days going wwwwaaaayyyy over my caloric limits. I read that response and thought, "That sounds like a terrible idea. That would never work for me. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Never work, blah, blah,blah. Maybe I better give it a try." I've been doing this for the last four days and it was exactly what I needed to hit the reset button. Saving all those calories for late in the day has made a huge difference, both for staying under my goal, but also mentally."
