Upgraded from 14 Pro Max. Have had it since September, am quite a heavy user. Aiming to be actual review on what it is like to use, not just on specs. POSITIVES: + Love the new metal design, no more smashing camera bump. Overall build quality excellent + Lighter than the very heavy 14 Pro Max + super fast charging + Screen in general very resistant to scratches. Have dropped it onto stone tiles, no noticeable scratches whatsoever + Display excellent quality, still usable in bright sunlight, seems to get less hot can see impact of vapour chamber + speaker and mic quality excellent NEGATIVES: These mostly revolve around the fact iOS 26 is shambolic**.** - Phone not the performance upgrade I expected. For example, just now I went to rearrange apps by selecting about a dozen and the phone lags when swiping across Home Screen. When opening settings to access notification settings, after selecting about three apps, the phone had a five-second delay going back to the notification menu. You would think increased RAM would prevent this. The whole thing runs a lot worse than my M5 iPad, which in contrast, is a joy to use. - Safari is abysmal. I will search and the app will be non-responsive and refuse to load the search unless I force quit the app and then reopen. granted this was an issue with my 14 but still RIDICULOUS - Dictation is TERRIBLE, half of the time over 50% of what it transcribes is wrong; I have a standard British accent, so it should be pretty easy for the phone to interpret. How are you meant to use Apple Intelligence with a flaw this basic? More an annoyance for me, but obviously if you rely on your voice to control the phone this is pretty bad for accessibility. Siri remains useless. - Keyboard is a joke, frequently autocorrects to the wrong word or changes a sentence to be wrong. Somehow still doesn't correct spelling when wrong, though. Can't keep up with the speed of my typing - Irritating bug where the phone will crash and then show the black screen with a spinning wheel. expected this on my 14 pro, not on brand new phone - Copy and paste from one Apple device to another frequently doesn't work or takes ages to load. - Mobile reception indicator frequently wrong, will have to go into airplane mode to reset it to get the correct reading. Otherwise, it will say I have full bars when I have a poor connection. - AirPods Pro 3 frequently disconnect and then refuse to reconnect unless I put them back into the case. - As soon as you turn on low power mode, say goodbye to your iPhone because it will now operate at the same speed as a cheap Amazon fire tablet from 2013. - System itself uses a lot more storage - had 256GB on my 14 and despite setting up the 17 pro max fresh with FEWER apps, system data etc takes up a ridiculous amount of storage (like 60GB). Would consider higher storage due to this.. These issues are truly inexcusable considering Apple's size, funds, and the price of the device. The following ones are more subjective and only slightly annoying. - Apple Intelligence gimmicky, but this is known. - Liquid glass animations can be inconsistently applied and broken. This is a shame as I actually really like the design. - Mail search function useless, you would think this would be a good opportunity for apple intelligence to help actually return the emails I am looking for. Had to download gmail instead Battery/Display - Battery life not as impressive as everyone says, I use my phone heavily, not a noticeable improvement over my 14 Pro Max, which had a fresh battery. 5G continues to drain battery a lot more than 4G/LTE. I wonder if the positive reviews come from US models which have extra battery in the SIM space, whilst my UK model has a physical SIM slot. - Sometimes the promotion screen does not seem to work well, with rapid swiping between apps seeming slightly laggy Camera - Flash being on the other side of the plateau to the camera means very close-up photos with flash are a lot harder to take than with prior design - 4x lens quality can be unimpressive vs 1x, especially when you then move to 8x which can produce bad results - Ultra-wide lens continues to perform poorly with low overall resolution/results without a bright high contrast scene. Cannot notice any improvement vs previous 12MP lens - All lenses can struggle with scenes that do not have high contrast or good lighting. E.g. a picture of your average UK countryside ends up grey and lifeless (more than real life haha) unless bathed in sunlight - 1x is equivalent to my 14 Pro Max - incremental upgrade (expected) - Camera quality is good overall. I have produced some excellent photos, but very conditions determined. Wouldn't say worth upgrading unless you have an older phone. - Video quality is excellent, however Conclusion: My biggest complaint is it just does not feel fast or operate like a "Pro" phone. Despite good hardware the software ruins it. Apple, I am BEGGING you to spend a whole update cycle just squashing bugs. While you are at it, decouple apps like Apple Music from iOS updates so you can be more competitive to Spotify... fix the horrendous system cache which takes 1/3 of the storage up with system data. I feel like Apple has been adding a lot of pointless bloat features which make the actual fundamental functions of the device worse. Hi everyone, I’ve been using the Pro Max models since the iPhone 15, and overall I’ve been happy with them (great display, great battery life). However, every time I see friends using the regular Pro, I can’t help but feel a bit jealous of how compact and comfortable it looks. To be honest, there are quite a few situations where the Pro Max feels like a brick in my pocket. I’ve even had it fall on my face a couple of times while watching videos in bed - not the best experience, lol... I currently have the option to trade in my 17 Pro Max (Silver) for a brand-new 17 Pro (Deep Blue) and even receive some cash on top. The only thing holding me back is whether I’d regret giving up the larger display and battery. For context: I work remotely and use my phone a lot throughout the day Battery anxiety isn’t a big concern since I’m usually near chargers or have power banks available, so that's not a biggie For those who downsized from a Pro Max to a Pro - did you regret it?
