I bought and tested pretty much every popular iPhone 17 Pro case so you don’t have to. Here’s my winners and losers.
Winner: Pitaka Ultra-Slim 1500D Aramid Fiber Case Why: This case might not offer the best drop protection, but I did drop it from 3 feet onto concrete and other than a small chip in the case, the phone was fine. It’s ultra light, ultra slim, feels good resting against the pinky finger, and feels good to hold. Other cases Magbak Elite: Excellent case! Just a little too “bulky” and square for my liking. It’s kind of heavy. The “pinky pillow” though is a real winner for comfort and I’m shocked that more cases don’t use this. The kickstand is strong and concealed well. Excellent drop protection. Benks Air Armor: Another great Kevlar / aramid fiber case similar to Pitaka but the Benks Air Armor case to me is just a slight step below Pitaka in terms of ergonomics and comfort in the hand. It’s also a bastard to get off the phone. Other than that, excellent case, and usually $20 cheaper than Pitaka. Tineeowl: The material and grip on this case is excellent but it’s so thick and bulky, which is a huge no-go for me. Seems like it would offer great drop protection, and has a great feel in the hand, but thick bulky cases to me just don’t cut it. Spigen ThinFit: I actually really like this case. This is the probably the safest option for a thin case with great drop protection. This case feels great in the hand, it’s slim, it’s got strong magnets, feels pretty comfortable in the hand and on the pinky finger. It’s also only like $20. It’s a little boring visually but it’s definitely in the top 3 rotation. Nudient Thin Case: I have no clue what the hype is about. I read everywhere online that this thin case was the best of the best, great grip, great feel, super thin and light. This case felt super cheap and flimsy. I think it’s all social media marketing and influencers with Nudient. The bottom of the case felt sharp. This feels like a case you would pay $5 or $10 for at five below. Nowhere near the quality of many of the other thin cases I’ve mentioned here. Rebel Gen7: This one is so interesting. I actually really like the feel and shape of this case. It’s kind of rounded in the right areas which give it a unique feel in the hand, and the pinky / charge port isn’t as sharp as I was expecting it to be. It’s actually very comfortable to hold, and I’m sure it offers amazing drop protection. The only issue I have with this case is that’s it’s thick and bulky, which again, is a no-go for me. EvoCheck Case: I love the material of this case. It’s like a soft plastic rubber. If the charge port / pinky finger area wasn’t so hard and uncomfortable on this case, it would probably be my daily. However, it’s really uncomfortable and this case also adds some height to the phone’s size. Spigen LiquidAir: A great, affordable case, however, I don’t believe it’s any thinner or lighter than the Spigen ThinFit case, which in my opinion is a much more comfortable and durable case when comparing the two. Torras Air Case with Kickstand: Very cool case! Actually feels very light and thin on the phone, the kickstand is very strong. It leaves the sides exposed which to me offers good ergonomics and grip. My only gripe is the bottom of the phone case which feels sharp on the pinky finger. Ringke Onyx: amazing phone case! Great grip, great feel, thin and light with great drop protection… but again, my only gripe… the charging port / pinky finger resting area is super sharp and hard. The Ultimate Phone Case IMO… Create a thin case like the Pitaka Pro case which offers full 360 degree drop protection, is still ultra thin, made with Aramid Fiber, has great feel in the hand or a case like the Ringke Onyx which has great grip, is thin and offers excellent drop protection… but add a pinky pillow like what Magbak Elite has on their case… Conceal a small kickstand that doesn’t add bulk to the phone similar to the kickstand on the Magbak elite or Torras air. And you have the ultimate phone case. Truthfully if Magbak elite rounded their case corners and slimmed the case down, and kept everything else the same, it would be the best case on the market. My iPhone Cases mega review!
I’m an avid phone case enthusiast, kahit dati pa sa earlier iPhones! From my first iPhone 5 with an OtterBox, to the iPhone 6, iPhone SE (1st gen), iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 12, and now my iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone Air, I’ve accumulated quite a collection of cases for each device. To be honest, I’ve probably spent way too much. For context, I once owned around 40+ cases for my iPhone 12 alone before eventually giving them away. Even now, I still find myself spending more than I should, especially since I’ve started leaning toward more premium brands like Caudabe, Pitaka, and Apple’s official cases. So yes, it’s fair to say I have a bit of a case-buying problem. That said, since some people appreciated my previous “mega review” comment on iPhone cases a few months back, I decided to put together a more comprehensive review of my current lineup. Hopefully, this helps anyone considering these brands, especially since some of them are difficult to find reviews for locally, particularly from fellow Filipinos. A quick caveat: I have pasmado hands but also dry hands at times, so that naturally affects my experience with grip and feel. Also, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max may not be the newest model anymore, I believe these insights are still relevant in terms of overall feel, usability, and protection! For the iPhone 16 Pro Max, I focused on: • Feel and grip • Utility (e.g., lanyard holes, camera control button) • Protection For the iPhone Air, my priorities were: • Aesthetics • Maintaining its slim form factor • Overall feel For additional context, my iPhone 16 Pro Max is in Natural Titanium, and my iPhone Air is Sky Blue, so those colors influenced my case choices rin. MagSafe strength is also very important to me. I typically research muna thoroughly before buying, and I avoid cases with weak magnets, which is a common issue with cheaper options. Lastly, I like to keep my devices and cases clean using Whoosh. I’d avoid using alcohol, as it can degrade both the phone and the case over time. I also went through a “lanyard phase” before, though I’ve since moved away from it, mainly because of one particular case I’ll mention below. iPhone 16 Pro Max Cases: In general, important sakin here was showing the natural titanium aesthetic and having a camera control button as well since ito yung model na inintroduce ni Apple yung Camera Control so the Camera Control Button wasn’t really as widely adopted as it is now, though from the looks of it, it still isn’t widely adopted but I promise you it was much worse back then T.T. For the Camera Control though, I just use it to activate the camera, not the complicated capacitive stuff. Spigen Ultra Hybrd T - Clear Still the same sentiments as my past comment. The clear is my first case since I had the phone on October and I bought it because of the camera control button since sya lang yung 3rd party case na may Camera Control Button at the time. Feels really great on the hand, and the magsafe is STRONG + may lanyard holes, but nagyeyellow talaga sya sa sides sadly, and slippery siya kasi walang panggrip sa gilid. Also note that I also used a lanyard for my phone, and dito lang nagka-permanent scratch sa right side because of this, and apparently known issue sya as per other reviews I’ve seen. Sa other cases ko as per below, walang scratches na iniiwan. But to be fair, ito naman rin yung pinakamatagal kong Phone Case na nagamit sa phone na to before proceeding to buy other phone cases(around 2-3 months). Spigen Ultra Hybrd T - Frosted Black The frosted black version naman super ganda ng feel sa likod because it's matte. And no yellowing because it's a different material sa clear. Issue ko lang talaga is it's slippery sa gilid. Also expensive kasi I bought sa kiosk since kagi sold out sa online shops. Also, after a while, medyo naging rubbery feel yung TPU nya sa gilid so uncomfy na talaga sya hahaha. Maybe it’s because of my sweaty / acidic hands, unsure! Pero love love the aesthetic. TineeOwl With camera control, feels AWESOME on the hand, quite heavy not gonna lie, but no lanyard holes sa gilid, but biggest con, as was nasa comment ko rin back then, is it stains really easily kahit sa bahay lang ginagamit (I have the stone color for reference) and kahit nililinis ko phone ko lagi. I would recommend the darker colors so that it will not stain. But after not using it for a while, I’ve seen that the stain on the back actually disappeared! So kudos TineeOwl, I can confirm na di pala sya nastastain permanently haha (though darker colors talaga for lower maintenance) Ringke Onyx Has great lanyard holes sa gilid, both left and right, magsafe is STRONGGG feels great on the hand even rivaling TineeOwl and Caudabe as an alternative, offers great protection despite being light, pero nakakaoff kasi walang camera control button, so it feels you have to dig to use it, and honestly nakaaoff din na unlike other Past Onyx cases, fully nakacover yung camera for this model, so not super aesthetically pleasing. Get this if you want function over form! Ringke Fusion Also same as the onyx, magsafe is strong, and will never yellow because its back is PC, and also it feels great because of the detailed sides! Offers great protection rin kahit relatively light. Wala lang camera control button though. This used to be my top pick to recommend because relatively cheap sya and protects the phone. But my gripe with it now is: 1. As stated, walang camera control button 2. Kamukha nya yung mga cheap na nabibili sa random shops on shopee, so not the most aesthetic if you care about that as well. Pitaka Aramid Fiber Case My very first luxury buy sa iPhone cases ko!!!! Super duper slim, but over time, nakakastress sya gamitin kasi medyo sharp yung edges ng cutouts. Nakakaoff lang din here is it does permanently stain over time kahit na nililinis ko rin regularly. Also, shoutout to the Shopee shop for Pitaka for hearing me out sa staining concern ko, and they coordinated with their supplier para magkaron ako ng replacement! Super duper awesome Customer service across the board. Supcase unicorn beetle Really really heavy duty!! May camera control though and the colors are cool, but legit ang bigat nya, but it REALLY protects your phone! Ilang beses ko na nabagsak sa bars yung phone ko with this case, but kahit screen protector di nadadamage! Basta ang bigat nya kaya di ko na ginagamit regularly hahaha. ++ panget dito is unlike sa other phone cases na may camera control button is angat yung camera control button nya hence it's uncomfortable, unlike sa spigen and other cases na flush sya sa case but still is a button. Sanptoch Just a clear generic one (Ultra Slim Sanptoch Crystal Clear Phone Case na variant to be specific). No camera control, really slim, but sobrang ganda kasi shinoshowcase nya yung phone, and I have trust it wouldn't yellow because of the full PC material. Sometimes simple is just better. I'm careful not to drop my phone though kasi I feel it doesn't offer any protection at all. Also, I stopped using a lanyard sa phone case na to and sa mga PC material phone cases kasi nababali sya eventually because of the pressure. Official Apple Silicone Case I wasn’t supposed to buy this kasi ang mahal + has consistent bad reviews, as per the standard Official Apple Silicone Cases Apple’s been selling these past couple of years, but nung nagkaron ako ng voucher sa Power Mac then why the hell not hahaha. The camera control button feels great compared to other cases sa list ko (thus far). At first, I had overall great experiences using this kasi iba nga talaga feeling ng official apple cases …. at first lang. Even up till now, it feels super great sa hand pag dry hands ko, it feels premium. But usually it doesn’t since again, I have sweaty hands!!! It feels like cheap rubber!!! ++ nung bumagsak lang sya lightly, nagkamassive crack na sya sa top left soo…. not protective at all! Also, based sa long term reviews, nagbabakbak talaga sya. Ito lang talaga yung di ko marerecommend na ibuy nyo ever. Caudabe Sheathe Here we go. Said to be the “pinnacle” of iPhone Cases, sadly, it REALLY DOES live up to the name!! It feels great, promise. Like the most premium because of the texture all around, which is a GOD-SEND for my sweaty hands! And kahit dry hands ko, it still feels sooo sooo great. This particular model has a camera control button (late kasi sila nagrelease ng version na may button), protective af (ilang beses ko na rin nabagsak, no damage!), it’s not as heavy as my Supcase and Tineeowl, though it still heavy compared to my other cases like from Ringke. Ito na yung legit na pinakamatagal kong gamit phone case on my iPhone 16 Pro Max ever (more than 6 months) because I’ve never really found anything like it. It has everything I need! Dito lang sa phone case na to nasatisfy yung phone case cravings ko (which is evidently hard to fill as evidenced by my phone case lineup thus far). My only gripes lang sa Caudabe ay 1. It’s expensive af, but I got it on sale during August kaya malaki rin natipid 2. antagal ng shipping pa-Pinas kasi nanggaling yung case ko from the US. Looking back, understandably matagal nga sya pero I was so impatient because I was excited af and nasanay na ko siguro sa 1-2 day shipping ng Shopee. Initially rin, naaasar ako na wala sya lanyard hole, but eventually I learned to not use one since the grip of this is sooo nice na. Sadly though, after consistently using it, nadetach yung iPhone Control Button. I reached out to the customer service asking ano kaya yung magandang adhesive para dito since I do plan on using the case still, (and again wala ako pake sa capacitive sensors nya, I only activate the camera) but surprisingly, they’re giving me a free replacement because under pa daw ako ng warranty, and I just have to pay shipping!!! Hoping for a faster shipping experience this time around since it’s coming from China na compared sa dati na US. So yeah! For the Pro Max / pro, overall, Caudabe Sheath na marerecommend ko if you’re into that particular aesthetic + if the feels are important to youuu + if you’re really passionate sa phone cases like me!!! For me, it genuinely lives up to the hype for good reason. Medyo mabigat lang sya and expensive, kaya if budget is a constraint, ringke is a great alternative! iPhone Air: I know the iPhone Air is best used with no phone case to maintain its slimness, and using it caseless feels soooo premium, but as someone with sweaty slippery hands, hindi ko talaga kaya! It’s not fragile by any means, nabagsak ko na siya ilang beses with a slim case, and no damage pa naman thankfully. But what I don’t like about being caseless is the “feeling” of it being fragile and for me, it’s hard to grip as well maybe because it is slim, and maybe because of my slippery hands rin. So sadly, kahit na sabi ko sa sarili ko I won’t buy phone cases for this phone parin, look at me still buying phone cases! But that comes the next problem though, as I’ve stated sa intro, I am focusing on aesthetics to show off the Sky Blue color, maintaining its slim profile, while improving my grip, and also it should feel great as well and sadly wala pa ko nakukuha na perfect thus far, making this phone harder to buy a case for compared sa 16 Pro Max ko. Sanptoch My first case for this phone! Cheap af, slim. PC so won’t yellow. Shows off my phone’s color very well. Pero nakulangan ako here because it just feels so cheap. Slippery rin hahaha. At least better yung grip though compared sa naked Air. Also wala ring camera control button but not a huge issue since slim naman sya to begin with. Official iPhone Case - Clear/Matte At first, it felt great! Better feeling than my Sanptoch, tapos again, that initial premium feel from apple. Looked awesome as well kasi matte yung itsura nya despite being sleek. But sadly, unlike other official apple clear cases, nagyellow yung buttons eventually because unlike the other official apple clear cases na fully PC, sa iPhone Air pala nagincorporate sila ng TPU kaya nagyellow :( Also feels greasy af! Would not recommend. Waste of money! Official iPhone Air Bumper Looked aesthetically pleasing and that’s it. It stains EASILY!! Not even a few days passed, nagstain na agad sya. Also, doesn’t protect the back, so you have to put your screen face down when laying it sa table. It just adds a bit more grip, and it genuinely felt great. But again, sadly it stains really easily. Not worth the money as well!! Random cheap cases Just bought them because they were cheap af (around 200 pesos for the 3), sadly it also feels cheap and the magsafe wasn’t strong, so I didn’t even use them, just after unboxing to try them out. QDos Hybrid Drop Impulse buy sa powermac lmao. Looks great pero sadly after a few days, mabigat pala sya. Also, like the bumper, it stains easily! Switcheasy 0.35 Ultra Slim Was my longest used phone case thus far (around a month+). Checks my boxes: Feels great since it’s matte, adds grip, very slim, STRONG magsafe, still shows off the iphone color great kahit matte, and allegedly doesn’t yellow since it’s PP. Sadly, after a month+ of using, nagdedeteriorate na yung buttons nya. Also sometimes, when my hands are super dry, it hurts to use which is weird kasi di ko narandaman yun before kahit sa Caudabe. Belkin Sheerforce Grip Literally came from the mail just now. Can’t review it properly just yet since I just received it, but from my testing sa stores and from using it thus far, it genuinely feels great!! It adds grip, not super heavy and not super kapal. Will have to wait and see. Incoming phone case: Caudabe Sheath for the iPhone Air Heard mixed reviews here since for others, it adds too much bulk, but for others the added bulk is worth it for the grip. Since my replacement case from the iPhone 16 Pro Max is coming, I asked the CS if it’s okay to add another case to be shipped together with the replacement, so I added in my cart the iPhone Air variant since again, I’ve had a great experience on my iPhone 16 Pro Max. Sad na wala masyado color options though, so maybe if I go out, I’ll use another phone case / go bare for the aesthetics, but I'll use the Caudabe naman for using my air at home! Hopefully it’s not super heavy. Wala ako overall recommendations sa iPhone Air since I’ll still suggest for y’all to go bare if you have the phone! Super duper awesome, but again di ko lang talaga kaya personally. Still exploring phone cases for the Air so I’ll just update this post accordingly if the 5 other people who have an Air dito sa Pinas ay interested! What I’m curious to try (for both iPhones): Flolab Surtect - Particularly the Matte variant! Super ganda raw based sa western reviewers, though nagtitipid me right now because it can only be bought from Amazon and ang baba masyado ng PHP natin hahaha Dbrand Ghost - heard great reviews rin for both phones, but again, deterrent ko is the weakening peso. Nillkin - heard great reviews kahit super cheap!! Which specific variant is great though, since upon looking into it, madami pala tong variant haha. Would be happy to answer specific questions, take more specific pictures of what I own, as well as discuss with people who are also passionate with phone cases! Also, would love to hear rin from people who have experiences sa phone cases na curious ako to try! submitted by /u/Thvnderclap to r/Tech_Philippines [link] [comments]
