JBL Announces BandBox Solo and Trio Bluetooth Speakers with Integrated AI Stem Separation for Musicians
JBL has unveiled its new BandBox Solo and Trio, a pair of portable Bluetooth speakers designed specifically for musicians. The standout feature is the onboard EDGE AI, which provides real-time stem separation directly within the speaker. This allows users to stream music via Bluetooth and instantly mute or adjust the volume of vocals, guitars, and rhythm tracks, effectively creating custom "minus-one" tracks for practice or live accompaniment without the need for external DAW software. Beyond the AI capabilities, both models serve as robust guitar amplifiers. The units come equipped with various amp simulators and effects, controllable via the JBL ONE app, which has already earned an iF Gold Award for its intuitive design. The Solo offers a compact 18W output, while the larger Trio provides a 135W output with a 4-channel mixer, making it suitable for small live gigs and sessions. 6 Year Review of 2020 Hybrid XSE - 70,000 miles
After owning a 2020 Hybrid XSE for about 6 years, I wanted to write a candid review of my experience owning this car highlighting all things good and all things bad. To give a quick backstory, I purchased this car new in mid 2020 fully loaded at ~$35,000 USD MSRP. Over the life of ownership, I have purchased cross bars, all-weather floor liners, a center console organizer, blacked-out emblem covers, and 2 sets of tires. Outside of these purchases, my only expenses have been through regular preventative maintenance. I'll start with the good: Styling, ride comfort, utility, sound system, reliability Since day 1 of owning this car, I have been stopped at lights, at the beach, in random grocery store parking lots, etc. with people asking what car I have and saying how much they like the look. I have to agree. I have never once been bored of the design or wish it looked any different. The two tone paint is also great. Although the XSE comes with the sport-tuned suspension, the overall ride comfort is mostly fantastic. Plenty of leg room in the back seats, lumbar support in the driver's seat, and relatively low levels of road noise when driving in the city. I have taken this car on backroads in national parks, on beaches, on uneven gravel / dirt roads with large and irregular pot holes, and what I would call "light" trails. Nothing crazy, no water crossings, but this car handles all of that like a champ. The trail mode seems somewhat gimmicky to me, but maybe others can speak to their experience with its utility. The hatchback has been by far one of my favorite things about this car, and being able to put down the rear row of seats has allowed me to move a lot of furniture over the years. Additionally, my car came with the digital rearview mirror, which is (in my opinion) one of the most underrated features of any modern car, and I will never purchase another car that does not have this feature. I have used this countless times when moving furniture or large items that limits rear visibility, or when I have tall people in the back seat. This should become as standard as having a backup camera and looks like magic to people who have never seen it before. I am no audiophile, however I would say that the JBL sound system in this car is great. No complaints listening to music and an overall enjoyable experience when combined with the lower road noise in the city. Sometimes due to the speaker locations, the bass is strong enough to vibrate items stored in the side door compartments making the bass sound distorted, which is mildly annoying. Finally, the overall reliability of this car (while still under 100,000 miles), so far has been solid, which is no real surprise for a Toyota. In the first 2 years of ownership, the car's battery had a parasitic-draining issue, which was fixed via a software / hardware update. Outside of this, there have been a few recalls, but no major issues and the car still drives as well as the day I drove it off the lot. Now, onto the not so good: Fuel efficiency / range, subscriptions This is tough one for me. My overall fuel efficiency over the car's lifetime is (as of today) 38.3MPG which most would say is objectively good. City driving in this car will often give you higher-than advertised numbers, commonly reaching the mid to high 40s and occasionally low 50s. This is awesome. The real problem is the moment you merge onto the interstate. I am a relatively conservative driver, and generally hang out between 70-75mph. In my experience, this car gets significantly worse highway fuel efficiency than advertised, commonly sitting between 31-35mpg on longer trips. The hybrid system essentially does nothing to help you at these speeds, and the end result (unless you are cruising at 60mph) is that your range is significantly degraded. While on road trips, you will be lucky to hit 400 miles, with the low fuel light frequently coming on around 375 miles. In the city, on average I am getting around 450-475 miles before needing to refuel. This goes right into my second (minor) complaint, which is the advertised range. This car has a 14.5 gallon tank, and Toyota claims between 500-600 miles of range. I do around 75% city driving and 25% highway driving on average. I will say definitively I have only ever hit over 500 miles less than 5 times and exclusively while city driving, and I have certainly never reached anywhere close to 600 miles. When I fill up from empty (low fuel light or less), the pump clicks off between 10.5-11.5 gallons almost exclusively and the car tells me I can go ~520 miles every time. By the time I hit the low fuel light, I've gone 400-450 miles. This happens every time. There is a customer support bulletin for the fuel tank / gauge being inaccurate in some models around the '19-21' timeframe, but I have had multiple dealerships tell me that this is normal behavior. While I understand advertising is always best-case scenario, this feels a bit deceptive. This brings me to subscriptions. Remote start should not be gatekept behind a paywall. If I am paying for the most premium package that a specific trim offers, this should come standard with the car. Not only is this feature behind a paywall, but Toyota intentionally limits its capabilities. Recently, the app (for a single day) allowed me to change internal cabin temperatures with a nice UI. This was removed in what I suspect was a hotfix. My best guess is that this was probably meant for newer RAV4s and accidentally released to me before being reversed. The car will also turn off the moment you unlock the door to get inside after using remote start, which is annoying. Finally, I will say that for the price, the passenger-side seat should have powered-adjustments and lumbar support like the driver's seat. Instead, it has a lever and a bar underneath like their cheapest trim models. This is disappointing. Also, my leather steering wheel is beginning to peel, which is my next project to fix. Ultimately, I will say that outside of these relatively minor issues, owning this RAV4 has been a pleasure and a mostly fantastic experience that still has me excited to get into the car every time I have to go somewhere. I have kept up with recommended maintenance intervals since day 1, and I fully expect this car to be with me another 100,000 miles. submitted by /u/HandsYouLemons to r/rav4club [link] [comments]

Infinix NOTE EDGE Launches Feb 18 in India: Curved 1.5K AMOLED, Dimensity 7100, JBL Dual Speakers & Slim 7.2mm Body – All Under ₹20,000?
Infinix is about to drop its next budget contender: the NOTE EDGE, officially launching in India on February 18 (exact time TBA, but expect a livestream on their channels). The company has confirmed it will sit under ₹20,000 with launch offers, making it one of the most aggressively priced curved-AMOLED phones in the segment. Confirmed / Teased Highlights Display: 1.5K resolution 3D curved AMOLED – Infinix claims it's among the slimmest curved panels in its class. Expect vibrant colors, good outdoor visibility, and that immersive curved-edge look. Processor: MediaTek Dimensity 7100 – first appearance in an Indian smartphone. Should deliver solid mid-range performance with good efficiency for daily use, multitasking, and moderate gaming. Audio: Dual stereo speakers tuned by JBL + Hi-Res audio support – a big step up from typical budget phone sound. Design: Ultra-slim 7.2mm thickness, premium feel, and a dedicated One Tap button for quick shortcuts/custom actions. Software: XOS 16 with AI-assisted features (photo editing, system optimization, productivity tools). Other: Likely 5000mAh+ battery with fast charging (details pending), decent camera setup (probably 50MP main), and 5G connectivity. Pricing & Positioning Starting below ₹20,000 (with offers) puts it directly against Realme Narzo 90, iQOO Z9s, Moto G85, CMF Phone 1 Pro, and Redmi Note 14 in the hot ₹15–20k range. The curved AMOLED + JBL audio + slim build could make it stand out if Infinix nails the execution. r/technologynewsindia community: Hyped for the Infinix NOTE EDGE on Feb 18? Curved 1.5K AMOLED + JBL speakers + 7.2mm slim body under ₹20K sounding like a steal, or waiting for full specs and real pricing? Unique JBL Custom Speaker?
Before someone says it, yes I know you can technically make this using jbl’s website but this one as seen in the second picture seems to be officially ordered by parent companies of Smirnoff Ice. I got this off of facebook marketplace already opened but completely unused in which I was told they got it through their job at a liquor store. Before hand I searched up the design online and only found the larger speaker with the limited edition decal and not a clip version as seen in the pictures. Thinking this may be from their collaboration with Smirnoff but I can’t find any proof anywhere or anything on this thing. submitted by /u/TacDefault to r/JBL [link] [comments]

Guide on how to identify fake JBL speakers
I've noticed that people often ask on this subreddit whether a certain JBL speaker is original or fake, which seems to be the brand with the most counterfeit copies. So, I decided to create a helpful post for those who have doubts and want to check and compare in order to identify if a speaker is authentic, using the information here. To verify these visual differences, simply search Google for images of the speaker model you're interested in or planning to buy, and compare the images while looking for the characteristics I’ll outline below. Logo: The JBL logo is one of the easiest and quickest ways to identify a fake speaker because it has very noticeable differences. Color: The edge of the logo is always a dark red color (regardless of the color of the speaker), whereas fake logos may not have any edge at all (since they’re often stickers) or the edge may be the same color as the rest of the speaker. (Photos 1 and 2) Material and Texture: The original logo is slightly raised from the speaker body and made of metal, giving it a rough feel. In fake models, the logo tends to be flatter and smoother, often made of plastic or rubber. (Photo 3) Size: On larger speakers especially, the fake logo is often noticeably smaller than the original and disproportionate to the speaker’s size. (Photo 1) Buttons: Another easy feature to identify is the buttons, as on fake speakers, the button symbols are often different from the original ones. Example: As seen in Photo 1, the left button (PartyBoost button) is supposed to have an infinity symbol, but on the fake, it displays an "M." The button next to the power button should show the Bluetooth symbol but instead shows a symbol similar to an infinity symbol with triangles. The power button is also different: the original has a classic power icon, while the fake shows a circle with a line in the middle. Passive Radiators: The passive radiators are the two movable circles on either side of JBL speakers, and they also have some distinct differences. Alignment: In authentic speakers, the radiators are always aligned horizontally (with a downward exclamation mark on modern models or the JBL logo on older models). On fakes, they often appear misaligned or even uneven with each other. (Photo 4) Reflections: On modern JBL speakers, the downward exclamation mark on the radiator has a metallic, textured reflection, while the rest of the radiator is textured plastic. On fake models, the exclamation mark may also be plastic, or the radiator may have a completely different design. (Photo 5) Borders: the outside borders of the radiators are made of rubber in original JBL speakers, while on fakes, it is made of plastic. Body: Basic construction quality differences can also reveal a fake speaker. Weight: This can be tricky without a reference, but an authentic JBL speaker feels heavy, and you can sense the quality and sturdiness of the materials. A fake speaker, however, will usually be lighter because it has fewer internal components and is made with cheaper materials. Battery Light: Modern JBL speakers have a front LED line (except for the Flip 6, which has it at the back) that shows the battery level. Fake models don’t have this feature, or they may try to mimic it with a sticker. (Photo 6) Box: This tip can be especially useful for buyers who can't examine the speaker directly, as it may be sealed in its box. Logo and Name: On fake speaker boxes, the product photos might not include the JBL logos in places like the center of the speaker or on the radiators. Additionally, the model name on the box may have spelling errors, such as “XTREM3” or “XTREEM 3” instead of “XTREME 3” (Photo 1). Magnets and Quality: Authentic JBL boxes are notably rigid and thick, similar to the sturdy boxes that phones come in, and they have magnets to keep the box closed. I Hope this guide can help someone, and i’d like to mention too that JBL has an official Page to help with the same problem, here you can check it out: https://support.jbl.com/au/en/customer-service/buy-authentic.html. submitted by /u/2TPW2 to r/JBL [link] [comments]

Helpful Notes IP Ratings Explained: IP67: Fully waterproof (1 meter submersion for 30 min) AND dustproof — pool, beach, shower safe IPX7: Water resistant (submersion safe) but NOT dust certified IPX6: Splash resistant, NOT submersion safe Water resistant (no rating): Handles light splashes only For pool/beach/shower use, prioritize IP67 rated speakers. Battery Life Reality: 5 hours (JBL Go 3): Fine for short trips, needs daily charging 12-16 hours (Sony, Bose Micro, Flip 6): Full day use 20-24 hours (Charge 5, Beats Pill, Xtreme 4): Weekend trip without charging 30-40 hours (Marshall Emberton II, W-KING): Week+ of moderate use Size vs Sound: Physics is physics. Bigger speakers have bigger drivers that move more air, producing better bass. The JBL Go 3 sounds great for its size but won't match the Charge 5 or Xtreme series for bass response. Set expectations accordingly. Powerbank Feature: JBL Charge 5, Xtreme 3, and Xtreme 4 can charge your phone via USB. Genuinely useful at beach/camping when your phone dies. This is why Charge 5 is often called the best all-around portable speaker. Multi-Speaker Pairing: JBL PartyBoost: Connect multiple JBL speakers together Auracast (Xtreme 4): Newer standard, broadcast to multiple speakers Sonos: Works within Sonos ecosystem only If you plan to expand, stick within brand ecosystems. Smart vs Bluetooth: Echo Dot requires WiFi and is primarily a home speaker with Alexa. Traditional Bluetooth speakers work anywhere without WiFi. Different use cases — Echo Dot isn't a portable speaker in the traditional sense. Skip These If... Skip EWA A106 if sound quality is priority — it's $15 for a reason Skip JBL Go 3 if you need all-day battery — only 5 hours Skip Echo Dot if you want portable outdoor use — it's a home smart speaker Skip W-KING if you want premium brand — it's loud but build quality differs from JBL/Bose Skip Bose Micro if budget is concern — similar performance to JBL Flip 6 at lower price Skip Sonos Roam 2 unless you're in Sonos ecosystem — paying for WiFi features you won't use Skip Partybox Encore if neighbors complain — it's genuinely loud Skip Bose S1 Pro+ unless you're a musician — overkill for casual use Quick Recommendations by Users Shower/Bathroom: EWA A106 Pro at $15 — cheap, waterproof, replaceable JBL Go 3 at $29 — better sound, compact Beach/Pool Days: JBL Charge 5 at $119 — IP67, powerbank for phone, floats Marshall Emberton II at $89 — IP67, looks amazing, 50% off Camping/Hiking: Sony XB100 at $43 — lightest, 16 hours, IP67 Anker Soundcore 2 at $27 — 24 hours, rugged Backyard Parties: JBL Partybox Encore at $199 — 100W, light show W-KING at $58 — 90W loud, budget party option Travel/Hotel: JBL Go 3 at $29 — pocketable Beats Pill at $99 — premium sound, packable Home Office/Bedroom: Echo Dot at $31 — Alexa, smart home Bose Revolve+ II at $179 — 360 sound fills room All-Purpose Best Value: JBL Charge 5 at $119 — does everything well These deals expire tonight. Cyber Monday is ending and these are yearly low prices on premium Bluetooth speakers. Don't overthink it — grab what fits your budget and use case before prices return to normal. The standout deal is the Marshall Emberton II at $89 — 50% off on a speaker that looks incredible and sounds great. It's normally $179 and rarely discounts this deep. If aesthetics matter at all, this is the move. For most people wanting a reliable portable speaker, the JBL Charge 5 at $119 remains the gold standard — waterproof, 20-hour battery, charges your phone, proven by 34K+ reviews. It does everything a portable speaker should do and does it well. Budget buyers should grab the Anker Soundcore 2 at $27 — 38% off, 142K+ reviews, 24-hour battery. It punches way above its price. The JBL Go 3 at $29 is the alternative if you want smaller size and JBL brand. Premium buyers should look at the Bose SoundLink Revolve+ II at $179 — 40% off for 360-degree room-filling sound. The JBL Xtreme 4 at $279 is the flagship portable if you want maximum everything. These speakers hold value well and don't get replaced often — a good Bluetooth speaker lasts 3-5+ years easily. At Cyber Monday pricing, you're getting excellent value on gear you'll use for years. What's your main use case — pool days, parties, shower, travel, or home? Custom Passive 3 Way Pa speakers
https://preview.redd.it/jtteggj8v56f1.png?width=1142&format=png&auto=webp&s=0c07f78aebf2d835f87a0cdc15e2516fec8fa7fb This is the draft build plans for a 3 way pa speaker I want to design for a church 15m long x 10m. I would like to get some opinion and feedback on it. Want to hit 90db (96db absolute max) at 12m for regular service. The system will be in the air. They already have a solution to use chains and a bracket to hold the speakers up around ~7ft up. thats from the base of the speaker to the floor. Passive Crossover can handle up to 650watts rms. 900 peak. QSC isa 1350 Amp. Only one side available for the mid tops unfortunetly They have dual 18" dayton subs to handle from 90hz to 40hz What are your thoughts? Additional Context: They would only be buying the follwing: The Dayton PCX-8 12. they are for $60 a pop. x2 and thats 180usd including shipping. They already have 2 "old" cabinents that held dual 15s and a horn. Was not built well, no bracing, no rigging points. kinda a bad deal. check the wood last sunday, if it fell on the floor i'd be more concerned about the floor. still solid all around. they already have: the passive crossovers the amp the 2x jbl horns all the wires speakon plates the two 15" drivers. a place to mount the drivers. As for time, persons are in the church willing to help and already have the tools. so the plan is to just cut down the dual 15s to hold just the 15 and the 12 and use the left over material plus other good quality wood to bracing. submitted by /u/Zharquese to r/diyaudio [link] [comments]

Guide on how to identify fake JBL speakers
I've noticed that people often ask on this subreddit whether a certain speaker is original or fake, especially JBL, which seems to be the brand with the most counterfeit copies. I Hope this guide can help someone, and i’d like to mention too that JBL has an official Page to help with the same problem, here you can check it out: https://support.jbl.com/au/en/customer-service/buy-authentic.html. submitted by /u/2TPW2 to r/Bluetooth_Speakers [link] [comments]

Rate my DJ Setup - Technics 1210’s, JBL LSR305, Xone 92 mixer, Custom Designs SQ402 Mahagony Speaker Stands
Relocated to a new continent and had to build the setup up from scratch again. The speaker stands were a random €100 find on marketplace and they have made a surprising difference to sound. The JBL LSR 305 we’re used on marketplace for €120 but have a surprisingly full and bass’ier sound then my experiences with the 305 MII. The XONE 92 mixer really improves sound quality and allows mixing of records. Any recommendations, criticism or comments are very welcome. Would love to get your thoughts on speaker placement. A little limited on space. Speakers are at ear level for people on the couch behind. Location of turntables is at waist level, a little low but really manageable still. submitted by /u/MurkTwain to r/DJSetups [link] [comments]

JBL Car Audio Speaker 2024 Update: Stage, Club, Stadium and Arena summary info for newbies.
If anyone is looking for an update as of 2024 for the differences between the JBL Car Audio speaker series and which ones are newer, I accidentally spent hours going down internet rabbit holes for information on the most recent releases. JBL and Harmon Kardon are great at speakers, and hair-tearingly terrible at providing up-to-date brochures, information and SEO on their websites (the AUS car audio website is 5+ YEARS out of date!!). Anyway, here's a summary of what I found... JBL CAR SPEAKER SERIES (not including amp or subwoofer info): STAGE - Entry level. Designed for the average person to replace factory speakers or build a rudimentary audio system. Predominantly coaxial speakers in this series. Able to run on most factory head units, but has the ability to be paired with amps and subs. Most recent release: Stage3, 2018 CLUB - "Mid" level. Designed for music enthusiasts that want better sound quality and/or know basics of building audio systems. Predominantly coaxial speakers in this series. Able to run on most factory head units, but sound better when running via amp with support from subs. Most recent release: Club Gen 3, 2023 CLUB SQ - Add-on to the Club series in 2020. "SQ" stands for Sound Quality with speakers optimised for better sound quality than regular Club series. Can run on most factory head units, but recommended to pair with amp and sub to get the most out of them. (Based on a few YT videos I could find, the difference between Club and Club SQ seems to be a noticeable step up in clarity of mids and highs and a step up in price). Most recent release: Club Gen 3 (SQ Models), 2023 STADIUM - Pro level. Designed for auto audio enthusiasts and seasoned audio system builders, (or anyone who wants a top-of-the-range installation). More speaker configurations possible for two-way and three-way component builds with midranges available in this series. The smaller and less powerful speakers in this range may run on factory head units, but going further up in size and power while trying to use without amp or subs will NOT have desired quality or volume for the cost. Most recent release: Stadium, 2020 ARENA - Luxury level. Component-only systems. (According to a YT video from the Crutchfield channel, no expense spared in manufacturing materials with rare-earth material Beryllium used in tweeter domes, carbon fiber cones and glass fiber cones in mids and woofers). Appears only two component speakers have been released in this series: the Arena 26Be two-way component speaker with bi-amp capable outboard crossover in 2020 (glass-fiber woofer cone), and the Arena X (36Be) three-way component speaker in 2021 (carbon-fiber midrange and woofer cones). Arena X designed to be run in multi-amp builds with DSP. Hope this helps someone else so they don't accidentally spend 5 hours researching old models before stumbling ass-first into the recent ones they were actually looking for. Sources: busted-ass google search, broken-ass JBL AU Car Audio website, stupid JBL US website, incomplete Harmon Kardon US Customer Support Website, 2-6yo YT videos. Would not be surprised if some of this is wrong. Please feel free to update if the mood takes you. Just wanted to put a summary and dates in one place instead of it being shit-splattered across 69 different websites and 420 brochures. TL;DR: Stage - Entry level. Mostly coaxial options. Club - Mid level. Mostly coaxial with some component options. Club SQ - Premium mid-level, added later. Coaxial and component options. Stadium - Pro level. Mostly component options. Arena - Luxury level. Component-only. 2 options. submitted by /u/Pun-Champ to r/JBL [link] [comments]

Traded my Toyota GR Supra 3.0 for an MX5 RF. Here's my 14 month review of the Supra. The ups and downs and ultimately why I made the trade.
For some context: I came from a 2017 Subaru BRZ. The positives of the Supra: The car had a ton of grip in twisty mountain roads and touges. More than my BRZ did with 245 PS4S tires. The short wheelbase really made the car playful and it loved to turn. The engine is a work of art. The way it builds revs, the smooth delivery of power and lack of turbo lag. It sounded so good as well after the fake engine noises were removed. It had a ton of power whenever you needed it. The transmission was basically perfect for what it is. It looked amazing, tons of attention but this got old fast. Fuel economy is excellent for its class. The paint is quite nice quality. The Negatives of the Supra: The steering. This is the biggest let down of the car especially coming from a BRZ. The steering was completely vague, after multiple alignments it never felt right. Once it loaded up during turns it felt somewhat decent but still. Super mushy, even for a daily grocery getter. If you turned it to sport mode, It was just vague, had lack of feedback but now it was heavier for no reason. The steering wheel. Thin rimmed, which is nice, but the wheel looks and feels like it came out of an X3 and it probably did. I could never confidently have a good grip on the wheel. My fingers never felt like they were in the right place. The leather on the wheel felt cheap as well, it was hard. The rattles. Why does this car rattle so much. My 4 year old BRZ did not rattle as much as this brand new Supra did. The interior quality was honestly a bit of a let down. The switchgear felt nice but there were a lot of cheap plastics used that rattle. For example the plastics around the HVAC controls. I’m serious when I say the BRZ felt like a truly quality product when I first bought it, but I had build quality issues from day 1 with the Supra. The rattles were so bad I ended up taking the interior apart to insert foam everywhere. This helped quieten the rattles by 50%. Floatiness The front end of the car felt floaty on the highway going over 80 kph. It just never felt confident and planted on the highway. I tired different alignment settings. Oil consumption. It needed a quart of oil every 2500-3500km. This has affected many of the 2021+ cars with the new engine design. The lack of an oil dipstick is infuriating. Especially when the car burns oil. It warned me it needs another 1L of oil to be added in. The dealership then drained the car and measured the oil and it was only down 250ml not 1L. The car felt twitchy near the limit when I took it to twisty roads. This is with multiple alignment attempts and various settings. But it added to the character of the car. The visibility is rather poor. The front visibility is fine, and the blind spots are an easy fix with some convex mirror add ons but honestly I always felt like I was in this tight dark cave. My ND Miata feels roomier. I don’t know if its because its physically roomier inside which is entirely possible because the Supra is tight and I am only 5’7 or its because you’re surrounded by a greenhouse of windows compared to the Supra. It was hard to see the traffic lights above sometimes as well. There were a few times I almost ran into pedestrians doing left turns because the A pillar is so massive and forward in your vision. I’ve never had this issue before. The BRZ and Miata have excellent visibility. Ergonomics: I hit my head multiple times trying to get into the car because the door is a tiny hole and the top of the window is so low. I don’t understand why they designed the car this way. My elbow would also be inside the cupholders when I rested my hand or used the shift lever. Or they would bump up against my sunglasses or drink inside the cupholders. There is no way to skip track or fast forward on the steering wheel, and the buttons for this are on the passenger side of the stereo system and it is quite the reach. You also cannot couple the left and passenger side climate temperatures. It's always dual zone. This is annoying because you have to adjust both separately at all times. No boost gauge, no oil temperature gauge. Really no sports car gauges at all except the one that tells you how much horsepower you're using which is practically useless The seats are not comfortable. They feel rather hard, and you’re sitting on TOP of them not in them. The standard Miata cloth seats are more comfortable and I feel like they hold me in better. The BRZ had the best seats. The headlights are not as bright as my BRZ’s standard LED head lights. The windshield wipers made erratic movements sometimes at the end of each wipe cycle. No Android Auto The HUD does not have a rev counter, or shift light. The gauge cluster is all LCD but you cannot customize it. Most of it is just blank 90% of the time. The speakers I might just be insane, but the MX5’s Bose system sounds better than the JBL system in the Supra. But ultimately, this car was just boring to drive. It was fast, but the combination of the poor steering feel, automatic transmission that shifted smoothly and flawlessly, and poor visibility made the car boring and a bit of a drag as a daily. It was basically like driving a standard 4 series but more cave like, less convenient and harder to get in and out of. The only time It was really truly fun was when I took it on a twisty mountain road at 130KPH+ and the steering could load up nicely. The BRZ was, in my use case, more fun than the Supra, and more practical. The only thing that let the BRZ down was its engine. Not just the lack of power or torque dip but the character of the engine was not sporty. I’ve reflected on this car for a long time in the context of Toyota as a company and the BRZ/86. I remember Tetsuya san talking about the great lengths they went into making sure the driving position of the 86 was right, the steering wheel was right, how the steering rack had to be redesigned for a lower center of gravity. They set out to make a great driver’s car and that’s what you felt when you drove it. You truly felt like this was a purpose built car. This same ethos did not carry forward to the Supra. The driving position is a mess, the seats are a mess, the steering wheel is a joke, the hood bulges too much and blocks visibility of the road, the A pillars are in the way, its hard to get in and out of. They had a digital gauge cluster but never bothered to add any customization ability or make better use of it. They had a HUD, but missed another opportunity to add a rev counter and shift light. Zero effort. Not even a GR logo inside the car. The Infotainment screen isn’t angled correctly towards the driver and its dim. The wind buffeting issue is still not fixed. I get that it’s a cheap aftermarket solution to fix it and I did fix it, but I think it symbolizes Toyota’s attitude with this car. It just does not feel like they put in the effort that they did with the GR Yaris, and the GR86/BRZ. Maybe the BMW partnership limited them significantly. This feels more like a rushed product even more than the Quadrifoglios I’ve test driven. The MX5 on the other hand, you can just tell the engineers put love into it and its a car with a solid purpose. Its nimble, agile, the engine loves to be revved, the interior doesn't rattle like the Supra did. The steering feels glorious and it just feels like a better, well designed, more complete package. And I learned a lot about myself after this ownership. I learned that I enjoy really revving a car out and feeling like i'm going fast even though I might not be vs a car that feels like you're going slow but you're actually going fast and cannot use more than 25% of the car on a daily basis. I hope you enjoyed my review/experience of the GR Supra. submitted by /u/TheWolfofBinance to r/cars [link] [comments]
