this is one year 4 months of collection. the edit bellow is a Q&A i did before that covers most peoples questions. Q: What's wrong with you? A: i don't know. If there's anything wrong with me it has to be pretty mild as I maintain an active social circle and have had several relationships. Some have speculated I have OCD and while this behavior would fall under that condition, I don't exhibit any other symptoms. So I don't think that's it. My first experiment with alcohol proved a reliable method for continuing to add to the pile so I did for a year stright and I plan to continue until I have a reason to stop. And I mean ROMANCE webtoons, not webtoons with a romance subplot; those get more leeway since there's much more important stuff going on than a couple getting together. 200 should be the ABSOLUTE limit for romance webtoons, and even that's pushing it. Webtoons that go on for longer just end up dragging their plot out, which results in a lot of fans losing interest and dropping them. This has happened to me with so many romance webtoons that I used to be OBSESSED with but don't care about anymore now; it makes me so sad. The Kiss Bet: I started reading The Kiss Bet when it had just come out...7 years ago. I was in 7th grade when it came out, and now I'm in my second year of university, and Oliver and Sara are STILL not officially a couple. Oliver just confessed, a couple of chapters ago, after bringing Sky back just to completely ruin her character and make her a disposable black love interest (disagree all you want but this is true, Sky was such a nice character and I was so glad to see a black girl in a webtoon that wasn't a stereotype and potrayed as the cool and popular “it girl” but that joy was short-lived when I realised she was only brought in to temporarily prevent Oliver and Sara from getting together. She was literally OVER Oliver and had a bf (albeit he was kind of an asshole but still) until the author decided she wasn't over Oliver (so she was emotionally cheating on her bf??) anymore and made her do that bs confession that came out of NOWHERE just to further prevent Olivara from being together. Like the webtoon follows the same arc every season: Oliver likes Sara, Sara likes whoever likes her at the moment, no shade, any time Oliver tries to make a move or even think about his feelings, BOOM, an unnecessary drama canonball is launched into the air and lands right in front of them. It happened when Patrick kissed Sara when Oliver was about to, at the end of the first season, it happened when Joe asked Sara out and they began dating because Vicky told him Sara liked him (like Joe what?), and it happened again when Oliver was just coming to terms with his feelings for Sara and slightly entertaining the concept of dating, then Sky confessed to him abruptly. And then, when the author finally had Oliver confess to Sara, she proceeded to drag out their first kiss for over 20 chapters. And you'd think a webtoon with over 200 chapters, the characters would be more complex, but they're not. Oliver and Joe's family life, an actual interesting plotline, is paid DUST so we can get clifhangered with yet another Olivara kdrama moment. And I guess the author didn't know what to do with any of the other characters because they barely show up now; Patrick and Rose are dating despite Rose being Sara, Pactrick's best friend's ex-bully (they never adress this btw), Vicky is barely a character (this is also just a nitpick but like it lowkey bothers me that Joe and Vicky look so similar, they could be twins😭), Tammy is a creepy weirdo and her obsession with Patrick is played for laughs (she's also been mia for a while but who actually cares) and Sky is just plot device brought in to get disrespected for no reason. None of the characters are interesting, and all they do is think about dating. Like, I get it's a romance webtoon, but that's no excuse for the characters to be so one-dimensional. Operation True Love: Where do I even start? The fall-off of this webtoon genuinely needs to be studied because wow 😭. All of its problems could've easily been avoided as well😭. The horrendously long time skip (yes, I know the author has said it was always going to have a time skip, I know, it's still unnecessarily long and does a huge disservice to the story), like 2-3 years is...fine I guess, but 10?? What self-respecting adult woman is gonna care THAT much about a guy they dated in high school for like a month TEN years ago?? Like ok yea I get being taken aback and hurt at how the relationship ended, I DO. That's VALID but like...girl..it was ten years ago😭. Especially with the ages they were/are now, like she was barely 18 when Eunhyeok ghosted her...she's 28 now, and this is STILL affecting her this deeply?? She hasn't dated anyone since, and yeah, she says it's because she hasn't been interested in anyone but girl please. At least with the kiss bet, I can somewhat excuse it because they're teenagers, so they can get a pass for being annoying and stupid, but the otl main characters are literally pushing 30 and somehow acting like WORSE versions of their high school selves. SARA LIN, a 17-year-old, is more mature than 28-year-old Suae. Oh my god, my poor Suae and Eunhyeok, what did they do to you? Like, even if Suae and Eunhyeok are endgame, it's not gonna feel earned to me because of the bullshit the author put them through and how she nerfed them. Dohwa is such a nothingburger character to me. I'm sorry, I literally could not care less about his character. And this isn't me being a Dohwa hater, I don't hate him, I just don't care about him, and in fact hate how the author used him in the story. He could've been such an interesting character with his home life and his relationship with his dad and money, but the author thought making him a boring second lead who's obviously not gonna get the girl and is just overall pathetic was a better fit for him. What a waste. I feel like I'm crazy for being the only one who grasps just how long 10 years is, especially if you were a teenager beforehand. Like, how has Dohwa not developed any meaningful relationships in ten years and is still not over a girl he had a crush on in high school?? Is that not concerning?? And yea you can say that it's because he's a celeb, so it's hard, but like..that's not an excuse, I'm sorry, couldn't he at least make friends with other celebs then? Also the entire webtoon is far from realistic so I'm sure the author can bend the rules a little bit to give Dohwa something to do or someone else to hang out with other than Suae like it's fictional story the whole point is to make stuff up, she can at least write him a new friend if she wants to drag out his sad relationship with Suae so much. I can't even fathom why his fans want him to end up with Suae, like do ya'll secretly hate him?? Why would you want him to end up as collateral? He would literally be her second choice/rebound. Dohwa and his fans should want better for themselves. Love Me Knot: There's not much to say about this one other than yeah, it's dragged out. The concept of the strings was interesting in the beginning, but then it all got so convoluted, and then briefly ignored for Avery and Hayden to date for a couple of chapters before they abruptly break up, and we pretty much never (barely) see Hayden again lol. I didn't care much for their relationship since I was always team Noah, but Hayden was a somewhat interesting character before they nerfed then booted him off the main cast. Now the webtoon is mostly just cute, fluffy chapters of Avery and Noah with brief mentions of the strings every now and then, sprinkled with a bit of drama from side characters. This one I'm not too mad about because I didn't care that much about it, but still. Your Smile Is A Trap: Don't get me wrong, I love this webtoon and how subversive it is. Usually, Korean webtoons like to act as if every single korean person is as pale as a blank word document and draws them as such (and if there is a tanned character, it's ALWAYS the guy, never the girl and if the guy is tanned/dark skinned but not Korean, he's potrayed as some savage beast or some other hypermasculine fetishist/racist stereotype) so this was so refreshing to see. But...the webtoon ABUSES cliffhangers as ALMOST every chapter ends in an unnecessary cliffhanger I HATE ITTT. And I also don't like how Kiyu is lowkey turning into a yandere, and his entire character is just how much he loves Lily now, like...chill. I feel like we're only JUST scratching the surface on Kiyu's idol life despite us being so many chapters in. Like it's sooo slow when it really doesn't need to be. Unlovable Replacement: ...This one's fall-off is on par with otl like it's crazyyy. Having the author add in a 7-year time skip for NO REASON (seriously, what is with authors and adding unnecessary time skips like if I had a nickel for every time this happened, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice). Chiko, the most normal boyfriend ever, suddenly became an asshole overnight, so November would break up with him and cut him off. He broke the ONE dealbreaker she had, like a week after she told him about it. Mind you, all this happened because his EX, who's also November's EX-BEST FRIEND, Millie, FAINTED after hearing the news that November's brother DIED. For context, Millie was in love with him, and it was implied she was using Chiko to get over him, but the way she treated him because of that was awful. So after ALL THIS, neither Millie nor the brother is ever mentioned or shown post time skip, so what was even the point? We don't even get to see November mourn or handle the costs/planning the funeral. Does Millie show up? Do they make amends? Does Chiko show up? Does Millie explain the situation? The way everything unfolds is so unserious, I burst out laughing as I was reading it. I just could not take anything seriously, but one thing I will compliment is the art. The irony of the art getting better, but the writing declining. I'm convinced the author was horribly cloned or webtoon replaced her with an AI bot, or she's purposely trying to crash and burn her own webtoon because of a reason we know nothing about. Let's Play: ... There are so so soo many issues with this one. I'm not even gonna talk about the weird racial stereotypes of the non-white characters and how any female character that isn't Sam is either one-dimensional or treated horribly (or both) because that's a whole other can of worms I'm not interested in opening. In my opinion, the webtoon fell off once it started focusing on Sam and Charles together. And maybe this is me being biased because I hate Charles, but like.. yeah. I don't care for Link, but the way his and Sam's relationship ended was done so distastefully and underwhelmingly that it genuinely made me feel bad for Link and Sam shippers, if they exist. I also find Marshall to be a much more interesting character than charles like the whole "a woman broke my heart a while ago and instead of dealing with my emotions and hurt about it like a normal person and GROWN ADULT i became a weirdo who closed my heart to anything real and only uses women for their bodies until I met HER" her being the female lead, is a bit overdone like it's gotten old. Yep, that's right, folks, I'm coming out as a Sam x Charles hater! Burn me at the stake, IDC. I'm not saying I think Marshall should be endgame because I actually really like Monica and wouldn't mind if Monica and Marshall get back together, but...I feel like I got duped. Like the beginning of the webtoon made you think that Marshall was the obvious endgame, and I don't mind and actually really like it when webtoons subvert stereotypes, but the way Mongie (the author) went about it was awful. Like Sam and Charles' weird power dynamic aside (he's literally her boss, yes, I know it's her dad's company, but Charles is still her BOSS and she has to answer to him at work), Sam is potrayed as this pure innocent uwu baby who knows nothing of the world (she's like 25 btw) because of how sheltered her childhood was due to her dad. Omg I fucking hate her dad, his over-protectiveness is played for laughs when it ISN'T FUNNY, it just makes him weird and annoying. But anyway, Sam and Charles' relationship is just not a dynamic I personally enjoy, not trying to yuck anyone's yum. A couple of days ago, my wife came to me asking the question that has been asked many times during our marriage. "Do you still love me? And why do you love me?" She comes and asks this from time to time. I don't mind. She seeks reassurance, nothing bad about it. I have always said the same thing. Yes I still love you, followed by why I think she is amazing. But every time she asks this it makes me think of exactly why I love her. So this time I became more descriptive in my explanation. So I said this: I love you because you give me space when I need to have it. You choose to understand and reflect rather than judge and defensive during arguments. She taught me not only to love myself, but to actively persue my hobbies. We are allowed to be our own people. She is upfront when she wants us time. I'm bipolar type 2 and am on the spectrum so I can have a hard time reading people. She was there to support me during my autism evaluation, and learned about it so she could understand me better. This all made her smile and all seemed good. Then at the last I added this. Something I never told her before. That I can cry in front of her and she doesn't think any less of me for it. This comment I could see made her smile flicker for a moment before coming back to normal. She thanked me for reassuring her and we said I love to each other, hugged and kissed. Since that conversation she has become very quiet. Not really distant but I can tell something is bothering her. When asking if she is upset she says no I'm not. But I get the feeling she is. This makes her feel dumb since she didn't finish her education. I always tell her that this is not true. She learned 5 languages by just listening and taking too people. She is amazing. I tell her this regularly. She hated her skin color when we met. She is dark skinned and was regularly bullied for this as a child. I do all the dishes since she doesn't like doing them. Except for when she feels guilty about me doing them all the time. I reassure her I don't mind. I buy her flowers, her favorites are tulips even though it makes her itchy and makes her sneeze. I give her massages when she is worn-out or her feet aches. I cook her favorite foods, plan date nights and go out of my way to pick up whatever food she craves. I clean the apartment since she hates clutter. I was there when she got diagnosed with uterine cancer. Held her when they told her that she needed to remove her uterus. This hit her hard since she loves kids. She was convinced I would leave her for someone else who could give me kids. I always reassured her that I will never leave her. That she is the love of my life. I go with her to every post checkup. She has been cancer free now for 4 years. I got her a therapist when she first came to Sweden since I knew she needed help with her trauma. She is amazing. I love her more than I love myself. I always tell her this. And I made a comment about her being my teacher. This is the best way to describe it. She taught me how to stand for myself. Raised my self-esteem and made me into the man I am today. She has always been there to support me and make me want to better myself. Maybe a teacher is a bad word to use. But I can't come up with a better one. Whenever she came to me with this question before I have always answered with what I love about her. Told her how amazing I think she is and what I love about her. Now I can see that I made it all about myself rather than her. Maybe dumped to much on her at once. We have a whiteboard we write our schedules on and write messages to each other on. This will be long. Sorry for this. I took your advice, somewhat to write her a letter. I wrote it on our whiteboard instead. It's a large whiteboard that hangs in our bedroom. On it, I wrote the reasons I love her for who she is as a person and things I love about her, and not about the things she does for me. I wrote as follows: Hi mahal. I love you more than i will ever be able to express in words. Every day, I get to wake up next to you and see your beautiful face while you lie beside me. I love it when I hear you sing karaoke, and you dance your happy dance when you eat your foods. I love your smile and the laugh you make when you watch your old Filipino movies. Every day I get to look into your beautiful eyes, those light brown eyes with the small chip in the left one. I get to watch your beautiful face as you smile when I give you your coffee in the morning. When you sit on the couch waiting for me to give it to you so we can watch GMM together. So I thought that I would buy her the flowers on my way home from work. Well she managed to come home before me. So when I walked through the door she had finished reading the message I wrote her. She hugged me crying and tanked me for the message. Then asked why I wrote it. I told her that I had noticed her being upset the past few days, so I wanted to cheer her up. She said I love you and I gave her the flowers which made her cry again. After she calmed down we sat down on the couch and I told her that I thought she had been upset for my answer to her question. So I wanted to write some of the things I love about her and not just what she does for me. She smiled and stroked my arm then hugged me again. She then tells me that she was upset but not for my answer. It was different from what I usually say when she has asked before, but she thought it was sweet that I liked the things she did for me. When she saw me cry it was as if the butterflies stopped in her stomach. She still loved me and knew that it was wrong for her to feel like that. I learned that this was something she talked about with her therapist. The therapist had gone through with her why she might see this as wrong and made her the butterflies again for me. Not as strong but still there. This was after the first one. Then my dumb ass goes and cries for her again. Twice. Each time acting as an insecticide in her stomach. Not her words but mine. She says she loves me more than anything, and she was sorry for being this way. I told her that it's ok. We can't help what we feel. That hopefully in the future she will reach a point where I will be able to open up to her fully again, and she will be happy for it instead of losing love for me. But that day is not today. I asked her if that would happen again would she lose the butterflies again? And she said she didn't know. She assured me that they were there now. She gets them every time I bring her coffee. Every time she comes home to a clean apartment and smells the food I had cooked for her. She told me that she would look at her friends husbands and boyfriends and realize how good i was for her. Even making her think I was too good for her. She talked about how her friends partners did the bare minimum and wanted their wives to be perfect little housewives. They had to fight to be able to go to school or developed a hobby. While I was actively supporting her when she wanted to. That no matter what she wanted to do I was always behind her supporting her in any way I can. When her friends family needed financial help their husband complained about paying, but I did it without question. I paid for a new house and bathroom for her family (I paid it for her brothers and her sister. Not for her parents who can go and **** themselves). And she reminded me of a thing I did after she had removed her uterus which I had forgot. After she was able to function on her own without painkillers again, she was really homesick and wanted a type of sweet bread that they only have in the Philippines. But the only store in Sweden that has it is a Filipino store in Linköping. That is a 2 hour drive from us. But I didn't complain. Just hopped in my car and drove to the store and back again getting it for her. Her friends partners would never have done that for them. But I did without a thought. This is something that she always thinks of to this day. That was almost four years ago. I had completely forgotten about it. Which I guess shows how little it bothered me to do it. Anyway. We hugged, kissed, and told each other we loved each other. So we will be fine. I am a little bit sad knowing that i will not be able to open up to her on that emotional of a level again. Your husband will leave you if you continue to allow him to cook and clean for you. Your husband is not rich enough to give you a good life. Your husband is too emotional to be a good husband. She is not hard enough on me when I do something "wrong". She should divorce me so she can marry someone older and richer. There are many more. And if I haven't made it incredibly clear. I hate her parents. They are awful people. She went LC first. But it was clear that they were still able to influence her for the worse. I wanted her to go NC, but she felt incredibly guilty of this. Mostly for abandoning her siblings. Who are good people. And she has also gone NC with her cousins and aunts and uncles. One of her aunts who I call the toad (she looks like professor Umbridge from Harry Potter) is a real gem. She forced her daughter into prostitution in Angel City. Got angry when she got pregnant by a Filipino man. But got happy when she got pregnant by an Australian man. The child which she uses to squeeze every penny she can get out of the father. So her environment growing up was not the best. And despite this she is incredibly kind and thoughtful. She always puts others before herself. After everything she has gone through the fact she isn't a crying mess is amazing. I will not abandon our relationship for this. I will stand by her as I know that she will me. Nothing in this world is perfect. We all have baggage that we carry with us. I’ve been trying several Korean hair care products and I have to say, I’ve never gotten such fantastic results with any other routine. I first started with Rice Water Bright shampoo and treatment conditioner. The shampoo is sulfate free so color safe and unlike some sulfate free formulas that CLAIM to be color safe, this shampoo does not fade tint at all. I found these two products at TJ Maxx (which is an excellent source for Korean and Japanese hair care now) but they are also available on Amazon. The shampoo gives a wonderful cleanse and even though I do double cleanse since wash day is every 5-7 days, I get zero color fade. The shampoo leaves hair slippery almost so it’s not stripping and a perfect option for dry hair like mine. I can see the shampoo working for any hair type and texture, even baby fine hair. The Rice Water Bright treatment conditioner is also excellent. It’s not heavy so it won’t weigh even fine hair down. But it provides enough nourishment after shampooing even for coarse dry hair like mine. It’s a rich creamy formula and as long as the application is confined to the mids/ends, it will replenish the moisture lost through shampooing, which is the purpose of conditioner. After washing my hair with these two Korean products, I then move on to styling. I have two loves in this category, one of which I found at TJ Maxx and the other is from Amazon. I style my curly hair straight. I also have the Peter Coppola Keratin Treatment in my strands. So I have to be careful that styling products don’t contain any sodium chloride. Neither of the two Korean products in this category do. The first product is the Narka Core Rebuild Straight Slick Hair Milk (no wash treatment). This is a styling/blowout cream that provides heat protection but also delivers abundant body and smoothness. My hair is almost shoulder length and I use about a nickel size dollop, which is the perfect amount I’ve found. This styling product also helps the style to last several days. It doesn’t attract dirt either (iykyk). The other Korean blowdry cream I love is by the very popular Korean brand Mise En Scene. Their Magic Straight Treatment is amazing. Like the Narka cream, this one also provides smoothness and a ton of shine. My blowout stays in place for many days when I use the Mise En Scene Magic Straight. There’s not a lot of difference between the two products tbh except you’ll need a separate heat protection product with the Magic Straight. With the Mise En Scene Magic Straight, you can also use it as a rinse out treatment. Leave in for 1-2 minutes and rinse. I didn’t realize these were the instructions lol. I use about a nickel size dollop as a blowdry cream. It works beautifully this way but I will try it as a rinse out product next wash day. The last Korean product I use is a finishing serum by Mise En Scene. This brand offers a lot of different serum formulas and you can find all the options on Amazon. The one I’m loving is their Original Formula serum. After I blow dry, I use 3-4 pumps and apply to the mid lengths and ends and take whatever’s left on my palms and run them over the top layer. This serum adds shine but also hydration that keeps my hair looking sleek and healthy. I use it almost every day to ensure my color treated strands are getting enough moisture and to keep up the beautiful shine it delivers. Don’t sleep on Korean (or Japanese ) hair care. Just like Korean skin care, it’s the bomb and in my experience there is nothing on the American market that compares. TJ Maxx and Marshall’s are a fountain of great Korean hair care options. I’ve noticed both stores are carrying more and more Korean and Japanese hair care products and they are quite affordable too. And Amazon is a treasure trove of Korean and Japanese hair care products. It’s a rabbit hole I find myself in very often. But right now, I’m perfectly satisfied with the Korean products I’ve been using. Thats my controversial take but I think that the entire industry is based on a lie, there is not a single skin care product that will make a visible difference in your skin and you will always crave to get a better product , a better expensive skin care treatment , a better dermatologist, a more expensive korean skin care and the cycle goes on feeding the industry, accutane basically wipes out all of this unnecessary spending, If more people would get low dose accutane even for mild acne and oily skin the entire industry would collapse, think about it how much have you spent trying to cure your acne before using accutane? And nothing really worked maybe you improved a bit but nothing Made you really satisfied you always tried new products, now multiply this effect for milions and milions of people around the world,they generated a massive amount of wealth just by making people NOT go on accutane, scaring people with side effects ecc. Obviously accutane has side effects im not saying its a completely safe drug, but we Should take into consideration that the entire skin care industry has big incentives to make accutane the less prescribed possible. I don’t know why everyone is pursuing “glass skin”, something I never heard of before. Then I searched online about the definition of glass skin, and it said glass skin is a South Korean skincare trend that refers to achieving a complexion that is smooth, clear, and so deeply hydrated that it has a luminous glow, almost like glass. However, it does not physically exist. What we’ve seen on the social media are simply people with good skin using a moisturizer. And this glowy and glass-like effect can soon disappear as soon as they wash off the moisturizer, which means that you don’t need a Korean products to get a glass skin, any moisturizer that gives you enough hydration can achieve the similar effect. In addition to glass effect, what people are really looking for is a flawless skin, smooth and clear. The reality, however, is that there is no flawless skin in the world, except children. It seems that those influencers do have flawless skin but what they do is simply adding a filter, and convincing you to buy the products they promote. To wrap up, if you want to have a glass skin, you just need to use a moisturizer and add a filter. What I am saying doesn’t mean Korean skincare is a scam, there is reason why they can go viral on the internet. However, if you really want to improve your skin, there is a lot of things you need to care about as well, such as sleeping and diet. What skincare gives you is little. I used to layer 5 or 6 skincare products one at a time and I still got pimple and redness. Then I stopped using most of them and simply used a moisturizer, and I tried to improve my sleep quality and have a more balanced diet. During the time I was using a skin tracker to track the progress, and the result turned out that my pimple got less and my redness got relieved. Nowadays there are too many products in the market and a lot of them don’t try to help people but simply earn their money. Just choose one or two and track them for a while. Sometimes we all follow ridiculously wrong skin care routine, use wrong products, our makeup looks silly, all that. And sometimes, it goes to another level - skin care unforgivable sins! Most of us have been there at least once. I'll start and let me say, with the power of hindsight, I am so ashamed: for years, and I mean 20+, I used soap to wash my face. Why? My mom, who's always had flawless, spotless, almost poreless skin and never even needed a foundation claimed that soap is the best thing to wash your face. An old-fashioned grey household soap to be exact. Now, I have always had acne-prone, mixed of oily and dry skin and while I didn't use grey soap but Dove soap for my face, it was still freaking RIDICULOUS! And only a few months ago when I switched to a very simplified Korean beauty routine (cleanser gel, toner, serum, moisturiser) my skin got without exaggeration 90% better. I'm an idiot to have only come to my senses at almost 42. the other thing is also super gross in hindsight. At some point in 2018 maybe I decided sustainability is my new thing. So, to remove makeup I started using reusable cotton pads. In itself nothing bad, right? The only thing is, I felt it was wasteful to only use them once and wash. So I used them for 3-4 days. By day 2 or 3 they were already basically dirty, and I kept them to dry on the side of my bathroom sink so often they even smelled bad. Sunscreens for Sensitive Skin at Low Price Point (with Photos!) I usually post over on /r/Tretinoin, but the good people of that subreddit have encouraged me to post my reviews in SCA as well, so here we are! I've had a lot of fun trying new sunscreens this summer in the hunt for The Perfect One. I've been on retinoids (Differin, Adapalene 0.3%, then Tretinoin 0.025%) since March 2018, and have used SPF 50 every single day. I have desert-dry, sensitive skin with minor rosacea (subtype one) and PIE leftover from acne. My selection criteria are as follows: Low Price Point (I aimed for under $15 per bottle, with two exceptions) Easily Accessible (available via drugstores or major online venues, e.g. Amazon, Dokodemo, Yesstyle, Ebay) Marketed for Sensitive Skin (this varies by brand) At Least SPF 50 (generally regarded as "good enough" for most people, even Tret users) MY METHOD I work from home, so I have the luxury of not worrying about sunscreen or makeup in the morning. I cleanse and moisturize, then wait until later in the day to apply my sunscreen. I treated each sunscreen exactly the same: I measured out a half teaspoon, applied on every inch of my face (up to my hairline, down my neck and décolletage, around the back of my neck, on my ears, lips, and eyelids), then reapplied a little extra to the high points of my face. All of these were applied over my morning moisturizers (FAB ultra repair cream, rosehip oil, sometimes Stratia LG). I don't want a sunscreen that I need to be fussy with or careful to keep out of my eye area. I want something cosmetically elegant that I can glob on everywhere and have it just work. I'm particularly interested in how these sunscreens wear, and whether they hold up to heat, sweat, and other environmental factors. Superpower level of mattifying on oily skin. It is slightly pink-tinted, and provides coverage comparable to a medium foundation (somewhere around Mac NW15 to NW25 if I had to guess). It dries down in 10 minutes, then it’s exercise- and water-resistant for 80 minutes. This one has serious staying power and usually takes a double cleanse (oil or micellar water followed by regular cleanser) to remove completely. It does dry out my lips (see the picture) and can be irritating on my undereye area, especially if I wasn't careful to layer my moisturizers beforehand. Best in this list for outdoor sports or hiking. This is my eighth bottle of this sunscreen, mainly becuase it's sold at my regular grocery store and it's an excellent shade match for my skin tone so I don't need to worry about blending it in. I also have the UNTINTED version of this sunscreen, which I've been trying in desperation to use up for over a year. This is the ultimate sunscreen if you want ghost face. When I tried it the first time, my husband asked if I was wearing "geisha makeup" (he might have been joking, but my lord was the white cast bad). Try as I might, this does not work for body or face. There are several reviews from surfers on the Amazon page that vouch for its staying power. My mom originally bought this for herself, but the shade wasn't a good match for her so she gave it to me... even though we wear the same foundation shade. I was browsing Into the Gloss and found an article about sunscreen for people who don't like sunscreen. I had never heard of this brand before, but the antioxidant-rich formula caught my eye. It contains Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Ferulic Acid (the same combo in several top Vitamin C serums), albeit at the end of the ingredients list. If the antioxidants in this product are actually effective, it would be an EXCELLENT morning multitasker and would solve my problem of finding a Vit C product that I actually like using. I reached out to the customer service team to ask about the PA/PPD rating, and received this email in response in less than 12 hours. It seems like they're really dedicated to the efficacy of their products and if I decide to repurchase I'll definitely check back to see their new test results. The texture of this sunscreen is unlike any of the others on this list. It's thick and difficult to squeeze out of the tube. Once it's out, it looks like apricot jam with texture that feels almost exactly like vaseline. As I worked it into my face it melted and broke down into a thick oil, not unlike olive oil. There was little scent, but it irritated my eyes anyway. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it did indeed dry down completely clear, if a bit uneven, and the greasiness mostly went away. I've included photos of it freshly applied and 20 minutes later when it was dry for comparison. As I walked around outside and sweated, it started to run down my face -- not okay when the UV index is 7! I do not think this one is a good match for me, but I thought of an alternate use for it: It performs beautifully as a brow gel to tame my unruly eyebrows! The “green” ingredients are derived from centella asiatica, a medicinal herb that hydrates, promotes wound healing, treats eczema/dermatitis, and reduces inflammation. There is another version of this product that contains essential oils and fragrance – this unscented one is the "safer" version for sensitive skin. This one is frequently compared to the Dear Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence, which I did not include in this review because of the price. I noticed a subtle green-correcting effect when I wore this; it helped to calm down redness and make it less noticeable. It's not as pronounced as the Dr Jart+ Tigergrass or Cica products (which are literally green-tinted), but I think it makes a difference. The finish is pearlescent (not shiny, just a nice healthy dewiness) and it works well under makeup. My skin was noticeably calmer, less red, and less reactive, even at the end of a full day of wear. This has become the sunscreen I reach for most often (even more than my beloved Skin Aqua milk!) and I've already repurchased two additional bottles. I heard about it from Gothamista's 2019 mineral sunscreen review video. The formula has 70% water, hyaluronic acid, and centella asiatica. That review described it as "highly hydrating, soothing, and disappears immediately into the skin with a silk, skin-like finish." My experience was COMPLETELY different. This was hands-down the most disappointing sunscreen I tried. When I first squeezed it out of the tube, I was hit with strong fragrance. This has orange peel oil, tea tree oil, and lavender oil. It smelled like I walked into a Bath & Body Works aromatherapy sale circa 2008. Eyes watering, I attempted to apply it the usual way (rubbing it in) and found that it wasn't cooperating at all. I switched to patting, which was somehow even worse. It never sank into my skin; instead it balled up and got even drier. The more I worked on it, the worse it got. It was like trying to rub zinc diaper cream into my face. There was no way to achieve anything close to even coverage. I didn't even leave the bathroom, I had to wash it off right away! In the interest of full disclosure, my experience runs contrary to every other review I read about this product -- everyone else seems to have no problem getting it to blend in and most describe the scent as "subtle" or "refreshing." I ordered this and the Green Level sunscreens from the Purito storefront on Amazon, and received a handful of legit-looking Purito foil samples with my order. I don't think this is a fake, so I think it must be the result of a bad batch. Honestly, this was so disappointing that I'm not going to order the unscented version (newly released in August). The alcohol evaporates quickly, making this sunscreen one of the fastest-drying (under a minute). It contains aloe and centella extract (soothing ingredients) to help balance the drying effect of the alcohol. I found that it tended to clump up on the baby hairs on my face and neck, and the white cast only increased as it settled on my face. In one picture I have a lovely white moustache and a streaky white neck, and in another photo there are visible white lines where it creased on my eyelids. In the "indoor" photo you can see how ghastly I looked after being outdoors for half an hour. After several hours of wear my skin was dry, red, and not happy. I struggled to use this up on my arms and legs because of the clumping and white cast, but eventually emptied the bottle. Will not repurchase. Photos Here from Two Separate Days Buy it on Amazon ($10 for 55 mL) or Jolse ($12, shipping from Korea) Missha All-Around Safe Block Aqua Sun Gel, SPF 50+, PA+++ Active Ingredients: Homosalate, TEA-Salicylate, Escalol 517, Tinosorb S, Amiloxate, Octocrylene Korean, Contains Alcohol This chemical sunscreen is absolutely invisible on the skin, and you can even double or triple layer it without looking like a zombie. Water- and sweat- resistant, which makes it a good option for outdoor activities. The potential downside is the alcohol content (fifth ingredient) which supposedly evaporates upon application and helps it dry down more quickly, similar to the Etude House one above. This one was extremely irritating for me -- my PIE and rosacea flared up immediately, and the alcohol sting did not abate as I wore it. My skin felt tight and warm until I was able to wash it off. I used this exactly twice, and will not repurchase. I gave this bottle to my husband to keep in his work bag. It goes on chalk white, but with a little work it rubs in mostly clear but never dries down completely. My face was shiny and my eyes streaming from the burning feeling on my skin. The label claims it's water resistent for 80 minutes, but it started dissolving just minutes after I went outdoors and started to sweat. As it melted off my face, I looked greasier than ever. I'm also not convinced that the filters (5% zinc, 4% octocrylene) are high enough for this to be effective for us photosensitive folks. I've relegated this one to Team Body Sunscreen, and will not repurchase. It's her go-to brand for people with sensitive skin, and it's easy to see why. Vanicream is very concerned with avoiding "harmful chemicals," so most of their ingredients lists are short and the products are no-frills. Like any all-mineral American sunscreen, it goes on chalk white and takes a good amount of elbow grease to work into my skin -- "grease" being the operative word. The white cast mostly went away, but I was still a little pallid a couple hours later. It leaves me slightly sticky/tacky until it dries completely (takes about 20 minutes) and after that happens it's bulletproof. It claims to be water-resistant for 80 minutes and it is absolutely correct: no amount of rain, tears, or chlorinated water can make this stuff budge. Like the Australian Gold one above, it takes a thorough two-step cleanse to remove at night, and balms/oils perform better than micellar water or makeup remover.
