Does anyone else find keto meal planning super overwhelming?
I've been trying to stick to a ketogenic diet for a couple weeks now, but figuring out what to eat every day is driving me nuts. Every recipe I find seems to have 15 ingredients I've never heard of, or it takes forever to make. Plus, I'm wasting so much food because I buy stuff for one recipe, and then never use it again. How do you guys make keto work without it taking over your whole life? I'm starting to feel like meal planning is harder than the actual diet and I'm never actually going to get into ketosis! submitted by /u/Low-Employment1905 to r/keto [link] [comments]

Is keto the only way to lose weight?
Keto is a more extreme Atkins diet. I wouldn't recommend it. The best way to lose weight is to move around. Walking is probably one of the easiest ways to lose weight. The downside to walking and exercise is it isn't a quick process. In a world of instant gratification people struggle keeping motivation to exercise. Eat meals, stop snacking and drinking liquid garbage, and move around.

Anyone else eat the same meals on keto every day and never get tired of it?
I’ve been doing keto for a while now, and honestly… I eat the same thing every single day. Same breakfast. Same lunch. The only thing I switch up is the protein at dinner — usually between salmon, fatty ground beef, or grilled burgers. It keeps things simple, I don’t have to think too much, and I actually enjoy it. Anyone else do the same? Does it work for you long term? submitted by /u/mazel_tofff to r/keto [link] [comments]

i am so happy & proud i am close to my 60’s! these. last few pounds have been so stubborn to lose. my eating habits have changed for the better, instead of eating 100cals throughout the day and then taking in refined sugars and simple carbs at night, focusing on healthy(ish) fats and proteins has done wonders amazing for my body, my adhd and hormones! i am planning on lowering my sodium intake next and work on my food timing. i also want to try to expand my palette as i tend to eat the same thing a lot, i hate change. submitted by /u/petalias to r/1200isplenty [link] [comments]

I have ADHD, a headache, and a deadline and I don't really like to cook. My go-to keto "recipe" on days like this is to brown some ground beef, toss a can of Pace salsa into the pan, heat through and serve with cheese, sour cream and avocado. Simple, quick, easy. AITA for only preparing keto meals for my family?
I (31f) am a sahm with two year old twins and two middle schoolers and do most of the cooking in the house. The past year, I started following a ketogenic diet and lost over 100 pounds. I feel healthier and more energized than ever, and I am no longer prediabetic. Over the past few months, it has been more and more time consuming doing all the cooking now that my husband is working from home, and our kids are doing online school. Since most of the grocery shopping and cooking falls on me, I started just buying and preparing keto meals. Initially, this wasn't an issue for my husband. If he or the kids wanted carbs, I could quickly make some rice or grab a roll or something. But my husband is starting to complain that I don't make things like fried rice, pasta, sandwiches, mashed potatoes, pancakes, etc. that are heavier in carbs. I told him if he wants those things he could make them himself. If he gave me a grocery list, I would even buy them whenever I go shopping. I also offered to get frozen meals/food that are more carb-heavy. He just complains that I used to take the initiative without him asking. I also didn't used to have to watch two extra kids on top of our 2 year old twins and plan on meals for everyone's lunches as well. I agreed I could occasionally make things that I could eat then put in the carbs after I take out my portion, but he told me he found most of my keto meals too boring. Honestly, I'm tired. I don't see why he can't prepare his own food if he isn't happy with what I make. My kids don't seem to care. I still buy staples like bread and rice. I just don't go out of my way to prepare them. I also buy non-keto snacks for my kids and husband. AITA for not wanting to make separate meals for my husband? Edit: To clarify, I'm not making my family go keto. There's still rice (which I'll make), bread, snacks, and pasta in the house. I just don't go out of my way to prepare family sized dishes that are carb-heavy (e.g. homemade lasagna, pancakes, fried rice, pizza). They have a variety of food, including oatmeal, whole grains, fruit, and snacks. My kids aren't deprived. Edit 2: I don't know how to make this more explicit. My kids are NOT keto. My kids eat healthy carbs and vegetables every day. Oatmeal, rice, potatoes, pasta, fruit. When I say I don't want to make non-keto meals, I just mean instead of making pizza or lasagna for dinner, I'll make, say, chicken wings or salmon and stir fried vegetables. Then there will be a side of potatoes or rice or bread, separate from the other food so I can eat the meat and veggies without too many carbs. Making a lasagna or pizza from scratch is a lot of effort, and with four kids at home all day, I don't have time to do all that and stay on track with my own diet. My kids are fine with the food. They like it. It's just my husband who complains submitted by /u/Euphoric_Age_3016 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

AITA for cooking Keto meals for myself that my girlfriend is kinda forced into eating because she doesn’t cook?
My best friend from childhood moved back to our hometown and when he came back he was the size of a house with legit the fittest body I’ve ever seen. Because my doc has been telling me to lose weight for years I asked him if he would help me. He basically forced me to sign up to the gym and go with him everyday and he told me to change my diet. What works for him (and me too now) is Keto and it’s changed my life. He explained to me what I could eat and couldn’t and the weight literally melted off me. I’ve never been able to stick to a diet before but Keto is different. My BP and cholesterol levels are the lowest/ best they’ve been in years and my doc is so proud that I’ve lost weight. I’m also fitter than I’ve been in years. I do all the cooking, I work from 5am-6pm and as soon as I come home I’ll get dinner going. Our meals are all Keto but I haven’t stopped buying snacks like chips, chocolate etc for my girlfriend because she likes the house to be stocked with that. I usually do steak & broccoli, bacon omelettes, fondue with asparagus, I’ve learned how to make Keto pizza and garlic bread and waffles and stuff so I do try and keep a rotation so it’s not boring. Anyway she absolutely hates everything I’m cooking and told me she misses rice and mashed potato, pasta etc. She isn’t big on meat and isn’t too hot on cheese and butter unless it’s in pasta. I told her that I don’t want to cook pasta or make mashed potatoes, I can do it as a once in a while thing but she said that she doesn’t want that and she wants to not come home to just bacon and eggs, which isn’t what I give her anyway, I actually make an effort to cook an interesting meal unless I’m super tired. I said I could do pasta substitutes but she got extremely pissed with me and told me that I’m being selfish by not taking into account that she ‘just wants to eat normal food’. Ultra Low-Effort Keto Meals
So I've gone down to 170 from 260 doing keto in roughly 2-4 month stints over the last 3 years or so. Anyways, I always see these "fancy" keto meals which don't get me wrong are awesome but for somebody like me who dislikes cooking for himself and doesn't have much time I usually resort to low effort meals. Just curious what some other people are doing. Here are few examples for myself. 2 cans of tuna-fish mixed with mayo and pepper. 3 Cheddarwurst with Sugar Reduced Ketchup 2 slices of Bologna with mayo, mustard, and cheese in between 2 Hamburger Patties with cheese on top Am I the only one who does this kind of keto? Also, what are some of your low effort keto meals? submitted by /u/Tanstorm to r/ketorecipes [link] [comments]

Think Keto is too expensive or takes too much time to prepare keto meals? Here's how I made 12 meals in under 5 minutes for $1.72 a meal.
Hi everyone, I see a lot of posts about people saying keto is too expensive or it takes too much time to prepare meals that are keto if you want to save money. Well here's what I do to make 2 weeks worth of lunches for myself in under 5 minutes for $1.72 a meal. This is what you will need: http://imgur.com/D0tqFTh 1 bag of Broccoli florets 2 jars of Alfredo sauce. (I got 2 different kinds to switch things up) 2 packs of precooked chicken strips (I got 1 grilled and 1 fajita to switch things up). And 14 tupperware bowls. If you don't have these, get them now! they are a great investment and you can get a 4 pack for $2.50 at Walmart. Here's a 5 pack on Amazon for $2.79 I suggest picking up a couple packs of these. In this guide I made 12 meals because I ran out of clean tupperware, but you will have enough ingredients for 14 meals. Here's the receipt for everything (ignore the bath rug lol). http://imgur.com/djovKVq The total comes out to be $24.04 so for 14 meals that is $1.72 a meal. Ok so now the prepping process: Lay out all of your Tupperware on a counter or table like so. http://imgur.com/jLbSXe9 Line the bottom of all of them with broccoli http://imgur.com/aggm9Uo Place the pieces of the precooked frozen chicken over the broccoli http://imgur.com/QD2W47X Add the Alfredo sauce to each containter http://imgur.com/WFinqVS Slap a lid on those bad boys and you're done! http://imgur.com/b0IvCpc Store them in the freezer until you're ready to eat http://imgur.com/agVJptp When you're ready to eat one just place it in the microwave for 3 minutes and 30 seconds http://imgur.com/vfSjAh1 http://imgur.com/D5ykJjR Give it a stir when its done cooking and blammo, you have yourself a ready to eat keto meal! http://imgur.com/o6h6E4q Macros for each meal: 7.5g of fat 22g of protein 4g of net carbs 200 calories Sometimes I'll toss in a scoop of coconut oil or a tablespoon of butter if I want to get the fat and calories up. With a table spoon of butter the fat is raised to 19.5g and the meal is 302 calories. I hope my technique helps many of you out who are just like me who have no time and are doing keto on a budget. Keto meals for the lazy, the newbie, or for living with non-keto family
Ive been eating keto most of the summer, but Ive been staying at my parents house, so its been tough to do too much elaborate cooking for myself, and impractical to pre-cook and pre-portion things. Still, Ive had great sucess with keto, and I have been enjoying my meals. So heres a list of quick, easy, non-obstrusive meals for keto'ers who arent experienced cooks, and/or who dont have full control over their kitchens, their fridges, and their shopping lists. Breakfasts 2 eggs: Fryed or however you prefer, just scramble them if the yolk breaks or you "screw up" somehow. Cream cheese wrapped in sandwitch meat. Ham, turkey, whatever. 2 "rolls" is a decent sized breakfast Tuna salad. A can of tuna, some mayo, and some celery Nuts and dairy. Mix nuts of almost whatever kind, with either yogurt, cottage cheese, or cream cheese. (Caution: some yogurt and cottage cheese are not keto friendly, even those that are are just barely acceptable) (have some lettuce or spinach with any/all of these breakfasts) Lunches "BLT salad". Exactly what it sounds like. Chef's salad. Hardboiled eggs, meat (just lunch meat is fine), and cheese on a bed of greens Hotdog weiners (boiled, fried, or BBQed - or hell, even microwaved) on a bed of greens (Caution: some hotdogs arent keto friendly. In general the better quality ones have the least carbs. I like the ones stuffed with cheese .^ ) Dinners Taco salad. Cook some groundbeef, add taco seasoning, slice some veggies, and find some sourcream. Bun-less burgers. Cook (BBQ or frying pan) frozen burger patty(s), garnish, and wrap in lettuce (getting fastfood burgers with no bun and no ketchup works too if youre not at home) Frozen veggies (streamed, microwaved, or however they say to be cooked) and streaks (BBQed, or however), or any kind of meat. Chicken ceasar salad. Chicken (I use leftover boneless chicken breasts baked in the oven), lettuce, and ceasar dressing (store bought, or make your own). Dessert A couple of berrys, or some cheese.....mostly just skip dessert in my opinion. Its more trouble and more carbs than its worth. Maybe this will be helpful to someone XD submitted by /u/Nurbyq to r/keto [link] [comments]
