Hims topical spray (0.3% finasteride, 6% minoxidil) - 3 sprays every morning Red light therapy cap for 7 minutes every morning, do this before applying topical spray Ketoconazole shampoo, once a week, leave on my head for 5 mins My question is… should I really wait a year before I get a hair transplant? Ketoconazole is a miracle!
I have struggled with sebderm for a while and honestly didn't realize that it was sebderm, found this sub via googling a few months back and have been through the wringer of products trying to find something that actually helps me. Coal tar shampoo, no help but also smelled like mothballs?? Salicylic acid shampoo, also no difference. Head and shoulders, made it worse apparently. Also tried things like scalp massagers, setting with coconut oil (my moms suggestion), and nothing would ever resolve the issue. It would be right back to square one by the end of the day. Saw mentions about using something with ketoconazole here and picked some up last time I was at CVS, and holy forking shirt balls guys. You were not kidding. Not a flake, not an itch, even behind my ears have cleared up, my eyebrow no longer has dandruff. It has been a true miracle find and I could not be more grateful for all you people here, it has been a really big confidence boost and relief. Is it worth adding Ketoconazole at this stage?
I'm on Finasteride for years, held my hair nicely but I would like more density. I know the best option would be Minoxidil, I gotta be honest I am just too lazy to apply it on my scalp every day/night. I thought about oral but I am not willing to risk with my heart. Also can't quite afford it, pretty tight finances atm. So the next "best" thing is Ketoconazole shampoo. I have read some studies that it's better than nothing (I mean on top of Finasteride, obviously), but I am pretty skeptical about its potential. I'm doing it regardless but should I expect anything of it? submitted by /u/Majestic-Gas-9825 to r/tressless [link] [comments]

Late 20s, 5 Years of hair loss, oily scalp, tried ketoconazole
Hi, I’m making this post because I can no longer hide my hair loss using hair fibers or powder. I am in my late twenties, and my hair loss started about 5 years ago. I’ve been through several very stressful periods in my life. I went to see a dermatologist, and his first diagnosis was androgenetic alopecia. Personally, I don’t fully believe this. I think my hair loss is related to stress, and more specifically to inflammation of my scalp. I find it absurd that as soon as someone has hair loss, doctors immediately talk about DHT. Sometimes it can be caused by vitamin deficiencies or simply scalp inflammation that needs to be treated first. In my opinion, min and fin should only be used after eliminating other possible causes. I find it incompetent when people blame DHT for every case of hair loss, because in most cases, this is not the only factor. A hair transplant should really be the last resort. To go into more detail: my hair gets greasy very quickly, and my skin also gets oily very fast. As soon as my hair becomes greasy, usually after just one day, it starts to look much thinner. I believe this could be hyperseborrhea. I also experience scalp discomfort and pain, sometimes a burning sensation, and occasionally itching. This is one of the main reasons I believe inflammation may be playing a role in my hair loss. I tested NIZORAL 2% (ketoconazole shampoo) for 3 months, using it 2–3 times per week, but I didn’t see any improvement. I would really like to know what advice you can give me, because I can no longer tolerate my hair loss mentally. I also tried shaving my head completely, but I hate how I look. My question is: does androgenetic alopecia usually cause itching, burning, or scalp pain, or are these symptoms more associated with inflammation or another scalp condition? Please help me. https://preview.redd.it/hglarxwokceg1.png?width=908&format=png&auto=webp&s=eca58b9f4d7ca5fbc61eb8a78b3ebb36ab3d4ae0 submitted by /u/hafx_ to r/tressless [link] [comments]

Don't sleep on ketaconazolen shampoo, it's not just for dandruff
Ketoconazole is a cheap and safe and more available than minoxidil and if has ANTIANDROGENIC properties, like minoxidil has. Studies are really promising. I use in its shampoo version twice a week PLUS minoxidil everyday but will talk with my doctor about the possibility of using it topically everyday insted of minoxidil because minoxidil gives me headaches sometimes. Edit: I forgot to say, I only apply it to my scalp as it's very drying and also it's where it's supposed to be https://link.springer.com/article/10.1186/s41702-019-0046-y https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3964684/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31858672/ submitted by /u/ritarepulsaqueen to r/FemaleHairLoss [link] [comments]

If you're in your 20s and doubting wheter to start a protocol, READ THIS.
In 2021 I was a 19yo with great hair, I used to see people my age with worse hair than me and think "wow, i'm so thankful I'm not balding like that guy". Then 2022 hit. Hairloss and karma hit me very very hard. My dad who's 50 literally had more hair than me. I tried to cope with it, even buzzed my head clean at one point, but I just could not do it. After tens of hours of watching MPMD, I decided to take Min. I did not want to go near Fin after reading all the stories that went like "I got on fin and my d*ck fell off, my wife left me and i got fired" type stuff. So i ordered saw palmetto, pumpkin seed oil, a 1mm derma roller and Min foam. All went great as you can see, i got my hair back fully(i think it was even thicker than before) using those only. My happines was short lived, as in that Fall i started noticing that my hair was starting to slowly fall again. I thought "f*ck it im not taking this shit anymore, I'll just ride it out until I go bald at 30" . Very very bad decision at the time. The min/saw palmetto/pumpkin oil/dermaroll gains lasted about until january and I thought I was all clear. But march came, and oh man, I was feeling like my hair was falling by the day. It started aggresively falling again, more so than before. I buzzed my hair once again on a whim and saw how dire the situation was. I tried to cope and started immediately googling SMP(scalp micro needling) clinics near me and messaged them. They came back to me with quotes that were like 1200$. I'm a broke uni student so no way I'm paying that for some dots on my head(also I've been a gym bro for 7 1/2 years so a month down time from the gym for recovery was no way in h*ll for me). So I decided to give my hair one last try. I went full panic mode, ordered some more Min, a derma stamp, ketoconazole shampoo, and finally got a prescription for oral Fin. Started with Propecia 1mg, all fine for the first month but was costly. So for the second month I got a prescription for Proscar 5mg and tried cutting it into 5. It was all good for about 2-3 weeks, but recently I started getting sides (ED-related). I'm sexually active since I was 16 and had sex at least 3 times a week since then. My erections and libido were not what they used to be when I was 16, the novelty did wear off since then, but I did notice a pretty drastic change since starting proscar. Trust me, it's not placebo and I also don’t jerk off so it isnt caused by over-stimulation either. I will cut back to 1.25mg thrice a week starting tomorrow and post an update in the coming months. My total test was 800ng before starting(I'm natty) and my diet is very good for the most part. My sleep is not that great(of course, I'm majoring in Engineering) but that can’t be the cause for the issue since I never had a great sleeping schedule. I also have a very active lifestyle, get a lot of sun(vit D), drink a lot of water, eat healthy, etc. etc. Proscar is literally the only thing that can cause it. I will not stop it though because I'm terrified of losing my hair, I invest really much into my appearance so being bald at 22 really fcks me up. The sides could also be caused by my shtty cutting skills, as it is really hard to perfectly split the pill in 5. So uneven dosing of the pill. On the upside, my hair growing results are really good as I'm closing on my 3rd month since starting the treatment. Fin seemed to clear up my acne too, I rarely get it nowadays(I used to get it often on my forehead before starting). I could only imagine where I would've been had I not stopped last Fall. But I'm so glad I did since it gave me a really big shock and all the motivation I need to never quit the protocol again. EVER. At the moment I alternate between Min foam and solution 2x/day , ~1mg fin/day, 1mm dermastamp/week(I use 1.5mm for the hairline), ketoconazole once every other day. Will cut fin to 1.25mg/3 times per week. The great results I got are because I'm a great responder to Min and my hair thinning pattern is the best for starting a regrowing protocol, IMO(diffuse thinning). If any young guy is reading this, and debating wheter to start min/fin, I advise you to do it. The world is cruel man, I swear everyday I would get funny looks and comments. I've always been the attractive guy, and the dude everyone looked up to for being fit and having that big of a flaw right in the open really f*ucks with your head at this age. I swear once everybody saw one weakness in me they all went for it with the balding trash talk, even 70yo teachers at Uni. If you’re 30+, it's not that bad, as a large percentage of men that age are already NW 4+ so you don’t get as many looks. But do yourself a favor and start it now, not later. Don't do the mistake I did, because I lost a lot of potential progress post-poning it like that. Always try to do your best and leave nothing on the table, whether it is the hair protocol, going to the gym, studying, your relationships, whatever. Always strive to be better and to improve, never settle. In this world full of copers, effort and dedication goes a long way. Starting is the most difficult part. Once you take action, everything falls into place. Your 2035 future-self will thank you. When all your friends are fat, unhealthy and bald, and you'll look as good as ever, pull chicks as hot as you did in your 20s and you will be so glad you stuck to the grind. Talk to someone about your struggles. It ate me up inside for over 2yrs before I opened to my mom about it and she totally understood and supported me. Having someone like that really helps. It can be a friend or someone close to you. Also thanks to MPMD and Haircafe, we owe these guys the world for their time and effort. Dont listen one bit to the copers like Baldcafe because he almost convinced me at one point that it is okay to let yourself go. IT IS NOT!!!!!! If this post gets interest, I will respond to any questions and update in the future. Thanks for reading and stay strong guys, life always beats us up in one way or another, it's okay to be down sometimes, but it's not okay to stay there and not get back up. TL;DR : Aggressive balding at 20, got on min, got great results, quit. Bald again, way worse than before, started a much more aggressive protocol and got sides. Great results again, trying to clear sides going forward. submitted by /u/Better_Historian_179 to r/tressless [link] [comments]

1 year of min+fin+ketoconazole
I use minoxidil once per day, just enough to cover the hairline and a little bit in+eyebrows. I tried for mustache+beard for a few months and didn't notice any gains (follicles are just sparse, I guess). Eyebrows got slightly thicker, though. Only side effects are occasional itching and heavier than normal dandruff where I apply the min. Finasteride is 1mg 3x per week. No side effects. I work out hard and diet (bulking and cutting), I originally started so I would look better bald. My body fat has been reasonably low my whole life, so I was likely not near any hormone level borderlines for side effects. Ketoconazole is 1-3x per week, I needed it anyway because I'll occasionally get dandruff (not from minoxidil) submitted by /u/SpuriousClaims to r/tressless [link] [comments]

YSK you should tell your doctor about bad dandruff
Why YSK: A bit of context for everyone - I’ve had terrible dandruff since I was young; being of South Asian descent my parents tried absolutely everything to resolve it. We tried oil treatments, head & shoulders, even the strong T-Gel stuff w/ tar. All of this works for a time, but requires consistent discipline and routine to actually do it’s job. Eventually the dry flaky behavior found its way to other parts of my skin - between my nose and cheeks, near my ears, by my eyebrows. Here too consistent moisturizer kept it at bay, but a missed day would mean a flair up. What I find is that not many people bring it up to their doctor - myself included. I would try many cocktails of fixes and browse the internet for a new method someone swore by. I eventually just came to the conclusion that maybe the climate is just too dry for my skin and I’ve got to deal with it. Here’s where a lot of ignorance in terms of dandruff comes in - dandruff is not due to the dryness of one’s skin. The flaky nature of the stuff is quite the opposite. When your skin or hair is too oily, it attracts a normal fungus on your skin to have a feast and flair up. Throwing more oils at dandruff does not solve dandruff. At the beginning of this year, I mentioned it to my doctor during my physical and he prescribed me a topical cream for my face, and a prescription shampoo for a few times a week. What I was diagnosed with was Seborrheic dermatitis - and it was in fact very treatable. Skeptical, I applied the cream without any lotion or moisturizer; not thinking it would do a thing. The shampoo as well after a shower. It’s gone. All of it. Completely gone. No flakes or problem areas anywhere overnight. It’s so relieving to just have it gone. According to the PCP, it also doesn’t require a refill - once it’s done you’re good to go. Basically tldr; talk to your Dr about bad dandruff and stop trying a concoction of remedies. It’ll change your life. EDIT: woah this blew up. My prescription is as follows: Topical Ketoconazole 2% cream Ketoconazole 2% shampoo EDIT 2: A lot of you have pointed out that Head and Shoulders and lots of other shampoos have Ketoconazole as the active ingredient. Unfortunately for whatever reason this did not work for me and I had to get a prescription. Though, I think this is why you should bring it up to your Dr. - if the treatment doesn’t work then your Dr. can help you navigate what will work instead of you searching the internet and trying everything! submitted by /u/Suspicious-Rich-2681 to r/YouShouldKnow [link] [comments]

Ketoconazole shampoo scares me more than finasteride
I hopped on finasteride the very day I got my diagnosis, no hesitation, no fear, nothing. I pop them daily like multivitamins. Hair multivitamins. Ketoconazole shampoo? Scared shitless of even trying it. I've read a few different anecdotal stories of people having increased shedding, accelerated hair loss and even one person claiming their hair never grew back the same way after experiencing a massive shed while using this shampoo. I bought it today and it's just sitting in my bag unopened, I just don't dare to use it. Does anyone here use Nizoral and can you confirm if it caused a big shed or if it's helped you in any way? submitted by /u/Fed_Express to r/tressless [link] [comments]
