Electric Kettle Showdown 2026
I have spent more time than I want to disclose on finding an electric kettle with temperature control. No budget just want something that heats up relatively fast, will last at least a year, and a kettle that has no contact with plastic (besides the silicon gasket around the temperature sensor found on all temp control models). I have tried to compile a table of sorts - please chime in. Kettle Pro/Cons Fellow Stagg ($200) Aesthetics / Reliability is poor Cosori Gooseneck ($70) Well recommended, Strix controller, huge plastic piece on the interior of the kettle that is not silicon but the lid punching through the kettle metal Oxo Glass Kettle ($120) Gigantic / Gigantic, hard to clean attached handle, not completely plastic free Oxo Gooseneck Kettle ($120) Must order directly from Oxo, base has serious QC issues, common failure point, not carried by Amazon only the glass kettle is TimeFish on Amazon ($120) Some positives, but QC issues makes me wonder why anyone would spend over $100 on some Chinese brand Cocinare ($70 cheapest model) Nice aesthetics but like Fellow poor build quality and charges $70 but doesnt even use the Strix heating element. Bonavita ($50-$100) Older models would survive a warzone, newer models are junk as evidenced by all recent reviews 2024-2026, their newest model which is not on Amazon yet has even more problems than the classic which makes sense MeCity ($70 but usually around $50-60) Great design, terrible execution, tons of quick failures submitted by

What electric kettles do you guys use and how much was it?
So I’m based in Japan, and electric kettles are quite common here. Electric gooseneck kettles have seen a rise in popularity too over the past few years. A year ago, my trusty ol’ electric kettle finally broke (needless to say it was a cheap plastic one), so I got myself a fully stainless steel gooseneck electric kettle from Yamazen (picture). It’s built really well, fully stainless steel expect for the handle and the base. You can also set the temperature between 80-100 degrees Celsius, can boil water with a push of a button, and can hold the hot water at your desired temperature for up to an hour. Pretty cool stuff. Thing is, this electric kettle cost around 7500yen, which is roughly 50 USD. I’ve gotten more into pourover the past few months only to realize other gooseneck electric kettles are much more expensive. Are the prices justified? Something like the Fellow electric kettle is like 4 times the price. Or are electric kettles just far less expensive in Japan? Now I’m curious what you guys are using. I’d recommend this Yamazen one (Yamazen EKN-EC1280)for anyone else who is in Japan. It seems like a steal at this price. submitted by /u/Responsible-Doubt842 to r/pourover [link] [comments]

The "Stainless Steel" Kettle Myth and The Definitive 6-Step Visual Audit Guide (Follow-up to my lab report research)
Hi everyone, Last week, I shared my research after emailing 20+ brands for lab reports to find a truly plastic-free kettle. (Thanks for the great discussion on that post!). While the brand list was helpful, many of you asked how to actually identify these hidden plastic spots in your own gear at home. I realized a simple list wasn't enough—we needed a visual guide. Based on further technical tear-downs of major kettle designs, I have compiled the definitive "6-Step Hidden Plastic Audit." Use the image above as a quick reference guide while checking your own kettle. The 6-Step "Hidden Plastic Audit" Checklist 1- Under the Lid (The Most Common Culprit) While the outer shell of the lid might be metal, manufacturers often use plastic for the inner surface to cut costs. Why it matters: When water boils, steam rises, hits this surface, condenses, collects potential leachates from the plastic, and drips back into your water (condensation dripping). The Check: Open the lid and physically touch the underside. Is it cold metal, or is it a polymer material? A truly inert design must have a full stainless steel lid interior. 2- The Spout Filter Almost every kettle has a limescale filter at the spout. Even if the mesh net itself appears to be fine metal wire, the frame holding it in place is frequently made of polypropylene plastic. Why it matters: Hot water passes directly over this plastic frame every time you pour. The Check: Remove the filter if possible or inspect it closely. The entire structure should be metal. 3- Water Level Window (Major Weak Point) Those transparent windows used to see how much water is left are almost always made of plastic and are attached to the steel body using adhesives or silicone gaskets. Why it matters: This introduces both plastic and potential chemical glues directly into the boiling chamber. The Check: The safest design is a "windowless" kettle where water level markings are etched directly onto the interior metal wall. 4- Base Sensors (The "Internal Seal" Issue) This is often overlooked in variable-temperature kettles. To measure water temperature precisely, a probe usually penetrates the bottom of the water reservoir. To prevent leaks, this probe is sealed with a silicone gasket that sits directly in the boiling water. Why it matters: While often deemed "food-safe," it is still a soft synthetic material degrading in 100°C water daily over years. The Check: Look at the bottom of the interior chamber. Do you see a small metal sensor surrounded by a soft, translucent, or white ring? A truly seamless design mounts the sensor underneath the steel floor, so it never touches the water. 5- "Unibody" (Seamless) Design Look at how the kettle chamber is constructed. If the base floor and the side walls are separate pieces joined together, there is a seam at the bottom. Why it matters: These seams often require sealing compounds or gaskets to remain watertight over time. The Check: The ideal structure is a "unibody" design, where the entire boiling chamber is pressed from a single sheet of stainless steel with zero seams. 6- Migration Reports (Beyond marketing labels) "BPA-Free" is largely a marketing term that doesn't guarantee the absence of other plasticizers or substitute chemicals. The Check: If absolute certainty is required, look for brands that transparently publish independent third-party lab results, such as LFGB migration reports, which test for chemical leaching at high temperatures. Last week I gave you the brand list based on emails; this week I'm giving you the visual tools to understand why those kettles fail and how to check any kettle yourself. Did that “stainless steel” kettle on your counter pass the test, or did it flunk? submitted by /u/CoffeeTeaJournal to r/PlasticFreeLiving [link] [comments]

UPDATE: I finally found the definitive "Plastic-Free" Electric Kettle list (after emailing 20+ brands for Lab Reports)
Like many of you, I’ve been struggling with the "Hot Water Blind Spot." We filter our water to death, avoid plastic bottles, and then boil that pure water in a kettle with hidden silicone seals or plastic lids. I got tired of the "BPA-Free" marketing nonsense, so I spent the last month emailing manufacturers directly. My request was simple: "Don't tell me it's safe. Send me the Migration Test Report (LFGB) proving no microplastics or heavy metals leach at 100°C." Here is the Tier List based on who actually shared data (and who ghosted me). TIER 1: The "Verified" Safe (Receipts Attached) Ottoni Fabbrica (Alice): Made in Italy. They shared a specific "Zero Nickel Migration" certificate. 100% Stainless Steel 18/10 inside. No plastic windows. Saki (Baristan/Luna): I was skeptical because of the "tech" look, but they are the only brand that publishes a Light Labs report. It verifies they pass the stricter German LFGB standards for microplastics and sensory (taste/odor) changes. The seal is on the rim (steam path), not the brew path. TIER 2: The "Visual" Pass (Budget Friendly) Secura (SWK-1701): The "Unibody" tank design means no seams, no glue, no windows. It’s boring, it has no temperature control, but physically, there is no way for water to touch plastic. Best budget pick. Cosori (Gooseneck Only): Their glass kettles have glued seams (avoid!), but the Gooseneck model is all steel inside. No report provided, but visually clean. TIER 3: The "Heartbreakers" (Hidden Plastic/Silicone) Fellow Stagg EKG: Beautiful, but has a silicone ring sitting inside the bottom of the kettle around the sensor. They refuse to share migration data. Zwilling Enfinigy: "Cool Touch" exterior is great, but the inner lid is plastic. Steam hits it, condenses, and drips back into your water. Hard pass. TIER 4: The "Run Away" List Ascot: Found reports of "paint" peeling inside the spout. KitchenAid: Older models had internal plastic level gauges. My Verdict: If you want pure analog steel: Ottoni. If you need temp control for coffee/tea (and want the lab proof): Saki. If you are on a budget: Secura. Hope this saves you guys the headache I went through. submitted by /u/CoffeeTeaJournal to r/PlasticFreeLiving [link] [comments]

Yesterday I used an old adage with my 6th graders. Pot calling kettle black. It did not go well.
I have a great relationship with my students. We learn. We laugh. We have fun. Yesterday, a girl called out a student for not minding his business. I quickly quipped, isn't that the pot calling the kettle black? She looked at me horrified and then looked over at one of my black students. Two thoughts went through my mind in an instant. 1st. How could that possibly be interpreted as racist. 2nd. How have they never heard that before? With my inner dialogue wrapped up, and still looking at her I asked, "You've never heard that before?" I looked at everyone and repeated the question. Nope. None of them. So, I explained it. We talked about cast iron and the 'really old days.' Some understood. Some didn't. She didn't. At least everyone understood that it wasn't racist. We were losing instructional time at this point. So I finally told her that she is the last person who should be calling someone out for not minding their own business. This she understood. Inside I was like, WTF just happened?! submitted by /u/ascaffo to r/GenX [link] [comments]

Never ending kettle search, please help
I am trying to purchase a kettle for pour over, but it seems like every single one that is not the Fellow Stagg EKG Pro absolutely sucks. Either not holding temperature, not brewing to the set temperature, it seems like every kettle has flaws that seem really bad. The Fellow is ridiculously expensive for me, so I feel really lost in this whole topic. Can anybody recommend a kettle that will perform well and be cheaper than the Fellow? submitted by /u/kitesmerfer to r/pourover [link] [comments]

Looking for kettle for life
Looking for a kettle for life. Something that is possible to clean properly. Mine clearly wasn’t designed to be able to properly get out the calcium deposits as there are crevices that just can’t be cleaned. Want one where the hot water doesn’t touch anything plastic. Something with an attractive look would be appreciated. EDIT: I should mention I’m happy to spend a lot and don’t have a budget I need to stick to Thanks for all the amazing replies. And to clarify I’m talking about an electric kettle. I’m in Canada if that helps. submitted by /u/SeeKaleidoscope to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

Best kettle (price-quality)
Edit: thanks everyone:) i ended up buying a smaller (600ml) gooseneck with a temp meter, i hope he will like it!! Second edit: He really liked it so if you’re looking for a good price-quality kettle i recommend it :)) Hi!! I want to buy a gooseneck kettle for my boyfriend for his birthday and I can't decide what to get. I can't ask him because it's a surprise:) I don't know much about pourover, but I used to work in a specialty coffee shop ages ago, and there we used a Hario temp control electric kettle for our drip coffees. However, I'm on a budget as I'm a student haha. So right now I'm considering either getting him a non-electric kettle with a temperature meter or a cheaper electric one (right now I'm looking at Huslog). My budget is around 60 euros but flexible. My question is: How useful are kettles with only temp meters (and no temp control)? Is Huslog a reliable brand? For info, right now he uses a regular electric kettle. He makes drip coffee almost every day. Thanks!! submitted by /u/Cheap-Bid-3141 to r/pourover [link] [comments]

Most reliable electric kettle (not Fellow EKG)
My Fellow EKG started acting erratically after two years of ownership. It's out of warranty and Fellow will not replace it. In my opinion, it should last longer than that given that it costs north of $200. I will not be be supporting them any longer. So I am looking for pour over kettle recommendations that have a history of being reliable over the years.
