Fix Your Kettlebell Swing
3 Tips to Improve Your Kettlebell Swings -Don't Hyperextend: stand up tall, squeeze glutes and extend quads -Don't Squat Your Swing: power is all in your hips, slight knee bend and hinge, don't squat -Don't Swing with Your Arms: it's all in the hips, your arms are just a pendulum for the weight Think of your setup for a swing almost like a deadlift: lats packed, hamstrings loaded, and core braced. The kettlebell swing is a ballistic movement and your hips do all the work. I know there's lots of debate on this but IMO it's fine to have some elbow bend. Once you start throwing around heavier weight most people have a slight bend regardless also. My rule of thumb is to try and bring the weight to shoulder height, really drive through your hips (think jumping without leaving the ground) and don't hyperextend at the top, really think about standing tall. Let me know if this helps! submitted by /u/asgooch to r/kettlebell [link] [comments]

Is it true that Kettlebell swings are very effective for fat loss?
I have heard on youtube from dozens of fitness videos that kettlebell workouts are great for fat loss but is it true. Swings are so satisfying
I’ve been working on swings for probably 12 years now. No matter where you’re at in your “kettlebell journey”, there’s always something to work on. Some cues I’ve been using lately for the guys I train (as well as myself): sit down, stand tall, standing plank at the top. Let the bell float. Don’t overpower it. Tired of swinging Kettlebells try this
One thing I’ve grown to appreciate about kettlebell juggling is how gently it exposes where your movement actually is. There’s no rush to it and no need to make it flashy. When you’re fresh, almost anything works. When you’re tired, you either move cleanly or you don’t. For me, it’s less about showing off and more about staying honest with the bell. If you ever find yourself a little burned out on straight swings and grinds, tossing the kettlebell around can be a surprisingly refreshing way to challenge coordination, timing, and patience. Out of curiosity, can you name the movements in the clip? submitted by /u/Legendary_Pasos to r/kettlebell [link] [comments]

How to Swing a Kettlebell
The Kettlebell Swing is one of the core moves for kettlebell training. It's also great for building a strong core, great for improving cardio, great for learning how to produce power in your hips, and honestly it's great for a ton of stuff. If you want to be more athletic, build hip strength, and help improve low back pain, start swinging. Here's how to do it right. Start with the bell a foot in front of you. Hinge at your hips, grab the handle with both hands. Hike the bell back between your legs like a football. Explosively snap your hips forward (it's not a squat, it's a hinge) power through your hips, extend your quads and let your arms float the bell to chest height. Let gravity bring it back down, keep your core braced and load those hips and hammys to hit it again, then repeat. Hinge, pop, swing. And before some of you lose your mind about some arm bend. Yeah it's fine to have a slight bend in your elbow, as long as your technique is good, you're using your hips to swing the bell, and the bell is hitting shoulder height (at least that's my prerequisite) you're good. Plus try swinging a really heavy kettlebell with arms fully extended. submitted by /u/asgooch to r/kettlebell [link] [comments]

Are swings the best exercise for increasing overall athleticism?
So I train calisthenics (gymnastic rings), but will include some hybrid training for specific things like side delts. Anyways I've progressed pretty far and I'm happy with how much stronger and more built I've become since I started. But I really want to start training things that will make me more athletic, not just stronger. I've seen some Youtube videos discussing the "what the hell" effect from kettlebell swings, due to it's ability to improve the posterior chain. I really enjoy my calisthenics program so I don't plan on going full kettlebell, but if I were to add one kettlebell exercise for my goals, would swings be the best one? Essentially I just want to be more explosive and powerful in my athletic movements. I was also thinking plyometrics might just be better for achieving this, but I really like the swing exercise. submitted by /u/bestatbeingmodest to r/kettlebell [link] [comments]

Doing 100 kettlebell swings a day - does it actually do anything?
Since mid-Nov (around 2 months), I've been doing 100 - 150 kettlebell swings 5x-6x/week. During the two weeks in Nov I also walked and did weights every other day. I didn't see a huge difference with adding the swings to my routine. At that point I still ate too many calories on the weekend and drank too much. Starting December 1, I cut out alcohol and watched what I ate, which did make a difference (since then I'm down 10 pounds, 20 to go!). The past 2 weeks I've been focused on walking 12k - 15k steps a day, on top of weights and eating better. I think the more steps is making a difference. I have more energy and I feel better overall. I don't hate doing the kettlebell swings everyday, but I'm wondering if there is any value in it right now. Currently my focus is losing the last 20 pounds. submitted by /u/diamondeyes7 to r/loseit [link] [comments]

What will I get strictly from swings?
I am in a rut at the moment in getting any exercise done, and have been for a good year or so. If it's not work, it's kids or chores, or just tiredness preventing me from getting out for a run or getting to the end of the garden to get on the cross trainer. I have a 12kg kettlebell here by my desk and I would find it easy enough to stand up and get some swings in, but i'm wondering what to aim for and what i'd get from it. I'm looking to shed a lot of fat. Diet isn't really an issue for me, it's not been great lately but I generally have a balanced diet, I just need something to kickstart the weight loss and I feel the best way to do that would be having no excuse moving 3ft away and getting some swings done throughout the day. So, if I were to stick to just swings, what would I get from it in terms of weight loss and muscle tone, and what else would you suggest I chuck in that's easy to do on the spot that would give me a bit more benefit to the routine and my weight loss goal. Thanks in advance submitted by /u/BetterCallTom to r/kettlebell [link] [comments]
