L-Theanine, GABA, Magnesium and Melatonin has been life changing for me and my sleep
Okay so for context I'm not an unhealthy person. Exercise regularly, eat well, manage stress pretty well, not drinking loads of caffeine. On paper I was doing everything right. But for some reason I kept waking up throughout the night and was absolutely dragging during the day. No energy, brain fog, just felt off. Couldn't figure it out. Eventually went down a rabbit hole and landed on this combo and it genuinely fixed it: L-Theanine – calms the brain noise without knocking you out. You just feel... less insane GABA – stopped the random wake ups in the middle of the night for me Magnesium – body relaxation, helps you actually stay asleep instead of waking up at 4am for no reason Melatonin – low dose only. I made the mistake of taking too much and had the most unhinged dreams of my life Tried a few different brands sorting this out. Olly was my entry point, easy and cheap. Tried Moonbrew for a bit too. Settled on Som Sleep mostly because it has everything pre-blended and I'm lazy, not gonna lie plus it actually works. You could definitely just buy each supplement separately and probably save money, but the convenience keeps me consistent and that's half the battle anyway. Whatever works for you honestly. Honestly the difference in my day to day life has been wild. I wake up actually feeling rested for the first time in years, my mood is noticeably better and the afternoon brain fog I just accepted as normal is basically gone. It sounds dramatic but good sleep fixes so much stuff you didn't even realise was broken. Oh also I started taking 15 grams of creatine as well, not sure if that is contributing to the better sleep or the positive benefits while being awake. Give it a try! submitted by /u/mrCOFFEEPOWER to r/Supplements [link] [comments]

L-theanine is amazing!
Who knew, this stuff is amazing! I took L-theanine yesterday and it totally calmed my body and mind. Ironically, it gave me a ton more energy, I think because it loosened me up from the heavy weight of my CPTSD. What experiences have you had with it? How much do you take and how often? Also what time of day do you take it? submitted by /u/Seemorefeelmore to r/CPTSD [link] [comments]

Has L-theanine actually done anything for you?
I’ve been experimenting with L-theanine for a while. Sometimes it feels like it genuinely clears mental noise when I start spiraling, but I wonder if it’s placebo. If you've used it, what did it actually change for you? Did it help with anxiety, brain fog, social ease, stress? Did it do nothing? Also curious what dosage range you’ve found noticeable, and whether you take it solo or paired with anything else. submitted by /u/owenwags_ to r/Biohackers [link] [comments]

Sports Research L-Theanine First Impression
I just picked this up yesterday and took one getting ready for bed, around 10:55pm. I wasn’t actually expecting much, kind of a skeptic over these kind of supplements. By 11:15 I was noticeably drowsy and ready to sleep. I drifted into sleep easily and only woke up once throughout the night. I often struggle to get back to sleep if that happens, but it didn’t take much to fall right back asleep. I just checked the time and laid my head back down and was back in dreamland. My 7:30am alarm went off and I willingly and without much effort got up, made the bed, and went downstairs to eat breakfast. This is insane for who I am, on a Sunday. I will try to remember to follow up when I’ve been using this consistently for a month. So far I’m super excited and hope it wasn’t just a fluke. If anyone else has good experience with the Sports Research line, L-Theanine in general, or the Sports Research Magnesium L-Threonate (I also picked that up yesterday) I’d love to hear it! submitted by /u/Pixels-Pretty to r/Costco [link] [comments]

Already using caffeine (100mg) + L-theanine (200mg) for studying — what else actually helps brain performance?
I currently take 100mg caffeine + 200mg L-theanine before studying, and it helps with focus and calm alertness. I’m looking for evidence-backed supplements that genuinely improve: focus memory mental endurance (long study sessions) learning retention Not interested in hype or bro-science — more into things that have real-world results or solid research. What has actually worked for you? Dosages, timing, and stack ideas are welcome. submitted by /u/Even_Highway_1870 to r/Biohackers [link] [comments]

Just took L-theanine for the first time today, and holy cow!
For many months I’ve been waking up in the mornings with horrible anxiety, if you can even call it that. It’s intense dread, like something horrible is about to happen, and it’s hard to shake even once I’m fully awake (so not just a bad dream or something). It’s accompanied by nausea and often the need to get up and poop NOW. My heart also pounds in my chest, especially if I change position. I have POTS and was blaming all this on it, but not too long ago I found out that my waking cortisol level is abnormally high. This morning for the first time, I took L-theanine immediately when I woke up, and within 20 minutes the symptoms were 80% gone! (Still a little nausea and heart rate change when I change positions, which I think might actually be the POTS.) This is unheard of. Usually when I lay in bed after waking up, it takes a good 45 minutes to even start feeling better. Mornings have been really awful because of that anxiety/dread. I don’t know how to describe it, but it really affects how I view everything in a really negative way, and even though it starts to improve after about 45 minutes, that orientation to the world lasts for several hours, so it impacts a big portion of my day. I also had a really stressful thing happen in the middle of the day today that I was freaking out about, and took L-theanine then too. Same thing as when I woke up - within 20 or 30 minutes, the anxiety was way down and I was able to deal with things more easily. Feels kind of miraculous! submitted by /u/SpiritedBug2221 to r/Anxiety [link] [comments]

L-THEANINE IS AWESOME
I tried it last week because my anxiety was bad n then I was trying to avoid more stress--my family ended up stressing me out more so I decided to try it and i was originally more anxious because I was scared it wasn't going to work or that I was gonna have rly bad side effects(my only side effect was a light-medium headache)--anywayy it kicked in 20-30min and I felt happy and excited to do things(like a normal person) and I haven't felt like that in awhile....it lasted honestly til the end of the next day so about 24hrs(at least for me definitely some placebo towards the end) But I was ironically anxious to try it bc of my anxiety and I am so glad i did...I'm only gonna take it when I need to though NatureMade L-theanine 200mg (chewable) submitted by /u/Routine_Promise_7321 to r/Anxiety [link] [comments]

Thank you for making me discover L-theanine
Just wanted to say a huge thanks to this community. I stumbled across posts about L-theanine here a while back, gave it a try and wow. Absolute game-changer. My baseline anxiety has basically melted away. I feel calmer, clearer, and more functional than I have in years. Honestly feels like a gift from the gods. Can’t believe I didn’t know about this sooner. Big appreciation to everyone who shares their experiences here. You may have genuinely changed my life. submitted by /u/Tokukawa to r/Biohackers [link] [comments]

L-Theanine is life changing
This is just an appreciation post for theanine. Honestly, I have severe anxiety stemming from overthinking, so much so that I have physical symptoms due to it: skin turning red, way too much oil all over (overproduction of sebum). All of them are related to high cortisol stemming from anxiety. But damn, theanine is a blessing. I’m not exaggerating. I’ve been taking it for more than a year now daily, and it works. Oh my god, it works. It keeps cortisol in check all the time, and I can tell because even today, if I miss it for 2 days in a row, it all comes back (all overthinking and stress). But if I don’t skip, it’s a new me. A normal, normal life, no burden on my mind. It’s all good. I used to cut down on caffeine completely, thinking that it affects my anxiety (which obviously it does), but with theanine daily, I can have my 2 cups a day and still just be a normal human being. No burden or overbearing thoughts in my mind. Simple happy life. Making this post so that someone out there might benefit from it. submitted by /u/pewdsVStseries to r/Supplements [link] [comments]

L-theanine for the foggy-headed, distracted kind of ADHD: Success!
There are a number of posts about L-theanine already, but I wanted to make a separate post to point out that how well it works may be related to what type of neurotransmitter is causing you grief. I have the kind of ADHD where I'm zoned out and can't keep myself focused on a task because my mind wanders everywhere. My brain is like a dog that needs to stop and sniff every bush and wants to run up to everyone for pats while I'm constantly dragging on the leash trying to get it to actually take a walk with me. My very non-expert research tells me this is related to norepinephrine. Apparently, my problems are not the type associated with dopamine, which I mention because I don't know whether L-theanine works equally well for that type of ADHD. Recently I started taking 200mg of L-theanine with my afternoon coffee. I feel like my brain has gone to dog-training school. I can actually sit down and complete a work project without completely losing my train of thought every time I have to switch tabs or search old messages for a piece of information. My brain has changed from a spoiled puppy into some kind of well-trained retriever that quickly fetches me whatever I need and sits there patiently waiting for my next instructions. The change has not been gradual, it started the very first day I tried out the L-theanine. I am now going to be taking it in the mornings too because it turns out I like being able to remember what I'm doing for more than 5 minutes at a time. submitted by /u/Fabulous_Window_1530 to r/adhdwomen [link] [comments]

L theanine is excellent
I'm trying to find natural ways to help alleviate long term chronic stress and anxiety. Ive seen many people mention l theanine. I'm 3 days into taking L theanine. 400mg per day. It is excellent for providing relief. Feels better than any psychiatrist medication I've tried. Feel free to mention anything that might be as effective as L theanine. Just concerned about developing tolerance to L theanine and I might need something else submitted by /u/Emergency-Mud7544 to r/Supplements [link] [comments]

L-Theanine is working again after 3 years!!!
Hi, I’m Christian (42, Netherlands). I have PDA, ADD and Asperger’s, and I was sick for over 30 years. After a long and difficult journey, I managed to resolve several major health issues, including: - IBS-D - Leaky gut - SIBO (H₂S) - Pellagra - MTHFR-related problems For years, I relied on L-theanine — around 350 mg, 3–4 times per day. It worked great, almost like oxazepam. But after solving my SIBO, the theanine slowly stopped working. Within two weeks, the calming effect vanished. I assumed it was tolerance or homeostasis, so I paused it for a month — but even after switching brands or combining it with caffeine, nothing helped. I had to go back to benzos. Fast forward 3 years — I no longer need benzos. My serotonin was back online, but my dopamine was still flatlined. Tyrosine, DLPA, NALT — nothing worked. So I dug deeper. Clue #1: Heart palpitations & tryptophan I noticed heart palpitations that disappeared after taking 333 mg tryptophan. That led me to think of NAD deficiency. I had a history of pellagra and was already taking niacinamide (B3) — but I didn’t realize how closely it tied into the NAD cycle and tryptophan depletion. So I started combining: → 500 mg B3 + 333 mg tryptophan daily When I noticed tryptophan converting to melatonin again, I knew my NAD levels were coming back. Clue #2: B6 — both forms Still no effect from theanine. I checked my B6 status — both pyridoxine (inactive) and PLP (active) are critical for neurotransmitter synthesis. Increasing both helped a little, but didn’t fix it. Clue #3: Dopamine cofactors — the missing link Eventually I reviewed all the dopamine cofactors — not just B6 or vitamin C. I found multiple imbalances. Especially vitamin C, which turned out to be very low. After correcting the full picture... BOOM — theanine worked again. Conclusion: If L-theanine suddenly stops working, consider this checklist: Take a break — could be tolerance Try a different brand, or combine with caffeine If that fails, go deeper: Check NAD status (B3 + tryptophan) Check B6 levels — both pyridoxine and PLP Check all dopamine cofactors — not just C (think: iron, copper, folate, magnesium, etc.) Support dopamine metabolism — it’s a system If dopamine isn’t being made properly, theanine often won’t work. Hope this helps someone! P.S. First post — be kind! submitted by /u/Pristine-Pop-4729 to r/Supplements [link] [comments]

Do not sleep on L-Theanine
Tried switching from coffee to green tea for better calming effects. Long story short, I hated it. Eventually I realized all I wanted was the L-Theanine from green tea. Decided to supplement with it and just continued with coffee. Now I take it daily. relaxation with drowsiness: L-Theanine improved focus: L-Theanine stress reduction: L-Theanine sleep quality: L-Theanine better mood: L-Theanine reduced anxiety: L-Theanine cardiovascular health: L-Theanine immune function: L-Theanine antioxidant: L-Theanine This stuff is goated no cap fr fr What other feel good supplements am I missing out on? EDIT: popping pills at work felt really weird so I switched to gummies instead. It's got a lower dose of L-Theanine but it's got ashwagandha to balance it out and it's more socially acceptable to eat gummies in my opinion submitted by /u/VitaminDu777 to r/Supplements [link] [comments]

Is L-theanine safe for daily, long-term use?
Hi everyone, I’ve been researching L-theanine as a supplement for stress relief and focus, and I’m considering using it daily. From what I’ve read, it seems to be safe for long-term use at doses between 100–400 mg per day, but I wanted to hear from people who’ve actually used it over time. • Have you been taking L-theanine daily for months or years? • Have you experienced any side effects or benefits that changed over time? • Are there any specific precautions I should know about? I’m also curious if it’s okay to take alongside caffeine, as I’ve read they complement each other well. Would love to hear your experiences or any insights you might have! Thanks in advance ! submitted by /u/Longjumping_Roof5031 to r/Biohackers [link] [comments]

L-theanine: I wish this feeling lasted forever 😭
It finally feels like I don't have a thousand different thoughts swarming around inside my head anymore. I can finally focus on any task that I do. This is a blessing but it's a shame that it's only temporary. I feel like I can finally see. 🙏 It is true that theanine is sourced from green tea yes? submitted by /u/KingOfMMA to r/Supplements [link] [comments]

L-Theanine is changing my life
I know the title may seem dramatic, but I am so serious. Last week, I went through a pretty rough breakup, and normally when stuff like that happens, my anxiety is through the roof. So much to the point I can damn near not function like a normal human. Can’t eat/drink, trouble sleeping, awful mood, all of the above. As my symptoms were worsening by the hour, I’m trying to find ways to reduce anxiety/stress and it’s all giving me the same old regurgitated, yet right advice. Stay active, healthy diet, go outside, etc. Thing is, I’ve been active my whole life, I eat well (not perfect); even take my daily vitamins along with creatine and ashwagandha. Now I’m probably not outside as much as I should be, but I’m not hibernating. Point is, I feel like I’ve been doing what’s “right” my whole life and nothing was working. Along with the going through the breakup, I have been fighting sleep issues for almost a year. Grinding my teeth, balling up my fists, not waking up with a morning knocker, etc. Didn’t matter if I was in bed for 4 hours or 14, I’d wake up feeling like shit and my mouth and hands would be noticeably tired/weak. I had chalked this up to stress and just sort of growing pains in my life (23M) for a while, but I had enough. Now, the funny way I came across l-theanine wasn’t even in a typical research form. I essentially looked up “why do I feel so good when drinking alcohol?”. And then I was filtering through those little google quick results and saw that it involves something with GABA and how it mimics that. And then something clicked, I asked myself can I safely take GABA? I found a lot of mixed reviews on it from people and was like eh, why not give it a shot. It’s a cheap supplement I can get at Walmart, if it doesn’t help it’s not the end of the world. In my research, both online and on reddit (to see personal experiences), I saw multiple people mention how l-theanine was amazing. More people saying how great l-theanine was compared to GABA. And I’m like alright, why not try that as well, l-theanine was more of an afterthought tbh. After getting both, I tried GABA that night because I saw that it could help induce sleepiness, so in my head, I was like “awesome! Two birds with one stone!” It slightly worked for me, definitely felt just slightly more relaxed and drowsy, but anxiety was still hovering around, but it was dulled, but a win is a win, I wasn’t complaining. However, the next day after waking up from a decent nights sleep, I took l-theanine not expecting too much from it. I thought if a direct GABA supplement wouldn’t help me, that I wouldn’t even feel l-theanine. Boy was I wrong, when I tell you I was legitimately HAPPY for the first time in a long long time, it was surreal. My anxiety was completely curbed. I was actually a bubbly and talkative person later that night playing basketball amongst a lot of people. Normally I’m that guy everyone’s cool with but I don’t say much just cause I’m a super overthinker and have social anxiety and whatever. But when I tell you I was just casually carrying on conversation like it was nothing, I was so happy. I didn’t really recognize how I really felt until later that night just thinking to myself how this is the happiest I’ve been in damn near forever. I’ve also noticed that I don’t walk on my tip toes like I have ALL MY LIFE after I started taking l-theanine. Eye contact isn’t an issue like it used to be. I was rapping every single song in my solo car ride for 4 hours today. I feel as if this is the first time I can legitimately say I’m happy. To think I’d tell myself this a week after a breakup, is absolutely outlandish, but I cannot be more grateful. TL;DR L-theanine has taken away my anxiety, social anxiety, some awkward quirks, and made me a much more confident, happy person. EDIT: I’m taking 100mg doses, one in the morning, and depending on how I’m feeling, one in the evening/afternoon submitted by /u/Ajslick23 to r/Supplements [link] [comments]

L-THEANINE HAS SAVED MY LIFE
sooooo….as title suggests I’ve been researching holistic ways to manage my inattentive (undiagnosed) adhd and I came across l-tyrosine and l-theanine multiple times online. That convinced me to try it out and when I finally did this Saturday , I started off by taking l-tyrosine with my breakfast on Saturday morning. However, I found that it made me more jittery (didn’t help at all with quieting my mind which is what I wanted). So next morning, I tried the l-theanine (500mg) from Amazon AND IT HAS BEEN INCREDIBLE. IT WORKED LIKE MAGIC - kicked in about 30 minutes after taking it and it just felt so amazing to have one train of thought instead of 101 LOL. Took it yesterday and today as well and it has really helped with my level of focus at work- even helped with my communication skills (usually I struggle with communicating due to racing thoughts and distractions but I could fully focus on conversations Alhamdulilah (thank God)) submitted by /u/Dry-Boysenberry1982 to r/adhdwomen [link] [comments]

L-Theanine… Wow
I have had a very rough past month due to severe anxiety almost everyday and I take anti- anxiety meds, I have had anxiety my whole life and haven’t felt this level of agoraphobic ongoing anxiety attacks in such a long time. I’ve researched natural supplements, herbs, etc., that might help for anxiety because I really hate benzodiazepines because of how addicting they are. I’ve seen L-Theanine mentioned in almost every article or study that I’ve read so I finally bought some. I took the chewable tablet 2 nights ago about an hour before bed and wow, I could cry tears of happiness. I slept great through the whole night and woke up in the morning without anxiety for the first time in a month. Not only in the morning- but the entire day I felt so much more at ease and happier! (Same thing with last night and today) The only thing is I felt low energy and a little headache but I don’t care at all, I’d take that over crippling anxiety any day. Sorry for the long post- I’m just extremely happy I found something that helps so much and isn’t pharmaceutical and I hope any others who have a similar situation might benefit from this too! 🥹 EDIT Since a lot of people are asking- the brand I got is Solaray, they are 200mg chewable tablets! submitted by /u/Accurate_Mud9385 to r/Supplements [link] [comments]
