My laptop is a fair amount more powerful than the steam machine, and was purchased for about the same price as the 512GB + controller (£1,000). Specs are: Lenovo LOQ Rtx 5060 I7 13650HX 32gb ram 1TB SSD 1080p 144hz display At 1080p it’s a pretty capable gaming machine, so I guess my question would be - why are people seemingly so against gaming laptops? So recently my husband and I moved and sold our setups, he just got a whole new setup in his office but I no longer have a space for one so I figured I would get a gaming laptop instead! I've heard some people like them more anyways. I know absolutely nothing about laptops and am wondering if anyone has recommendations on affordable but good laptops. I'll mostly be running games like Rainbow Six Siege, Counter-Strike 2 COD, ect. I know overheating can be a big issue so I want to definitely avoid that. Any recommendations? I’m so done with gaming , I’ve had about 3 laptops so far and they all been shitty , went from that acer nitro 5 with temps problems and a lot of hardware and software problems to a asus tuf a15 4050 , it was really good laptop until the build quality started to really show and eventually it just didint boot up anymore and because it wasn’t under warranty anymore and it was really expensive for that kind of laptop I decided to wait a few months to save up for a new one , my brother had a legion 7i 4070 and my friends too so I decided to buy one since they all have it and from what I’ve seen it’s really great , got the 5070 intel one on a discount and I got it about 1 week ago , I have done everything right exept the laptop won’t , it stutters like crazy and some games even crash randomly I have used ddu to remove the last driver 610. Something I don’t rember and that one may have caused problems and went to a more stable version 596.49 I think. and I have tried other multiple versions but the laptop seems to be really stuttery and games still crash , I’m so done with gaming laptops lowk . And yes I take good care of it , no viruses , I don’t have a ton of trash installed , I use dgpu mode , have v sync disabled , performance mode or even balanced because they are the same thing , 240 hz refresh rate active , no overclocking neither undervolting , I really wanna hear some recommendations as I am probably gonna return this legion this week I have left of the 1 month test period in my electronic store in my country , I wanna hear what should I do submitted by /u/HotSky1470 to r/laptops [link] [comments]

So I've been trying to buy a gaming laptop for the past two months and made the mistake of asking literally everyone I know for advice. here's how that went my tech friend on discord: get the ASUS ROG Strix, nothing else comes close trust me bro the guy at Best Buy: the Razer Blade 16 is what all the serious gamers are buying right now (he said this while making eye contact with a $3,200 price tag) my cousin who built a PC in 2019 and now considers himself an expert: just build a desktop dude, laptops are a waste of money (thanks man very helpful) a YouTube comment section: MSI or you're throwing money away also subscribe GamingLaptops three weeks ago: depends on your budget, use case, preferred display technology, CPU preference, thermal requirements, country of residence and star sign my dad: just get a Dell so after collecting this incredibly useful and consistent advice I decided to just ignore all of it and research by specs instead of brand names. filtered everything by TGP first, then display quality, then price. ended up going down a rabbit hole of brands I would never heard of. XMG, Illegear, Dream Machines all direct to consumer manufacturers that basically never come up in casual conversation but have specs that embarrass the big names at the same price point.
