Moved into a building with shared laundry
I ran 3 loads of laundry so figured I'd consolidate and use the jumbo dryer to dry them all at once. Couldn't find the lint trap from the drum inside to clean it out first, but there was what looked like an openable panel on the bottom, so I pulled it open and found this treasure underneath. I want to say it's months worth of buildup but knowing the traffic a shared laundry room sees I have no idea how much time it takes to accumulate cakes this big. that said, it was a very, very satisfying pull to remove them! submitted by /u/aly_bu to r/oddlysatisfying [link] [comments]

Overheard my husband on the phone with a friend. He didn't know I could hear him.
I've been with my husband for almost 10 years, married for 2 years. We've always had a pretty great relationship, but lately life has been kicking our asses (issues with health insurance, rising costs of living, work drama, family drama, teenage kid drama, chores building up, paying off debt, never having time to ourselves, etc.) We both have been taking turns being miserable, stressed out, and not our best selves. We try to acknowledge that it's life making us feel this way and we're still good, but sometimes it's hard, you know? We sometimes get snippy or sarcastic with each other, and I hate that. Yesterday, I woke up alone in bed and in a MOOD. I wasn't feeling well, I woke up with a massive, painful cold sore, I was tired and grouchy and just didn't want anything to do with anything. I walked into my kitchen to make myself some coffee, and I noticed my husband sitting on the couch with his back to me and his airpods in his ears. He had no idea I was out of bed and in the kitchen. He was on the phone with one of his childhood best friends who has been having some issues in his own marriage for a long time now. I heard my husband say my name and I froze. I swear I wasn't trying to eavesdrop, I just wanted my coffee. This is what I heard: "I remember when (my name) and I first started dating, I would drive 45 minutes to her parents' house to hang out with her, watch Netflix on the couch until like 4 a.m., then drive back home and get ready for work. I did that shit like 3 or 4 times a week, and I was so tired man. I was so tired, but I didn't mind it, because I just wanted to be around her. We weren't even fooling around or anything because (my son) was still little and sleeping in her room, but it didn't matter because I just loved being around her and couldn't wait to see her again. It's different now because we've been living together and I don't have to do all that driving anymore, and we're stressed out about life and money and stuff...but I still love being around her. That feeling never went away. (My name) is my best friend and she makes me happy as shit, man. The best thing I ever did in my life was marry her. If it weren't for her and (my son), I don't think I would have made it this long. When she's not home, I frigging miss her. When I'm out with you guys, my mind is on her. You and (friend's wife) haven't been good for a long time. I don't remember you guys ever being happy, even when you were first dating. Therapy isn't working for either of you, maybe it's time to pull the plug and find someone who makes you feel the way I feel about her." The way my heart melted like a block of ice. Every negative thought in my head, every eye roll at his socks on the floor, every resentment I had built up just melted away. I walked back into my bedroom, coffee in my hands and tears in my eyes. An hour or so later, he slipped into our bedroom and said "Good morning, love. I see you already have coffee, but do I have some tea for you!" (Meaning the gossip with his friend.) I may not have everything that I want, there may be bills and laundry and dishes piling up, and sure, my car needs new tires and I have no idea where the money for that is coming from, but I am so, so lucky, and I needed that reminder. submitted by /u/mardeexmurder to r/Marriage [link] [comments]

WIBTAH for refusing to clean the guest room when my husband invited his mom over?
My (27M) husband (27M) and I have been together for over 8 years. To say he’s a workaholic is an understatement. He’s currently a postdoc at a university and typically works 10-12 hours a day during the week and also goes in on weekends for another 4-8 hours. He’s been like this since we met in undergrad. I’ve always been proud of him, but his schedule means almost all of the housework falls on me. I work full time too, but I still do basically 100% of the chores: cleaning, laundry, yard work, car maintenance, groceries, cooking, walking the dog, etc. I’ve asked him in the past if he’d consider working a little less, since he says none of his colleagues work as many hours. Whenever I bring it up, he gets defensive and says I don’t understand how hard he has to work, so I usually drop it. I’ve also tried asking him to help with specific chores, but honestly it often feels like it backfires. For example, if I ask him to clean the kitchen after I cook, he’ll put dishes away in the wrong places, load only half the dirty dishes into the dishwasher, wipe the counters with a wet paper towel, and leave the floor unswept. I end up having to redo it afterward. The one chore I thought was foolproof was putting the trash on the curb. Trash day is the same day every week. I remind him multiple times and he still only does it about half the time. I suggested putting it on his phone calendar and he got offended. He said he’d just set an alarm in the morning, but then he doesn’t. The only thing that works is reminding him as he’s leaving the house, but lately it feels like he intentionally leaves when I’m in the restroom so I can’t ask. At this point I’m starting to feel like he works so much partly to avoid doing anything at home. His mom has even told me that growing up he was always so focused on school that he never really helped with chores either. Now here’s the current issue. His mom is coming to visit this weekend. He loves inviting people to stay with us, but usually he’s gone working until they arrive, which means I’m the one who ends up cleaning the entire house beforehand because I worry about being judged. Since he invited her, I asked him earlier this week if he could at least clean the guest room and guest bathroom (which he’s the only one who uses when we don’t have guests). I also asked if he could handle the living room so my workload would be a little lighter. I asked early in the week and reminded him every day. He kept saying he’d do it later. On Friday morning he promised he would clean it that evening. He didn’t. The next morning he apologized and said he “had to” go into the office. It’s spring break and no one else is there, but now I’m once again expected to clean the guest room and bathroom myself before his mom arrives. At this point I’m seriously considering just leaving it as-is and letting him deal with the consequences. WIBTAH if I refuse to clean it this time? I’m honestly just tired of constantly being promised help and then never getting it. It’s starting to feel like weaponized incompetence. Edit: sorry not entirely sure how edits/updates work but here goes. Thank you all for the support and advice! I decided not to clean the room and restroom in order to focus on the rest of the house. When his mom arrived I apologized about the mess when I took her to the guest room and let her know my husband was supposed to clean it. She didn’t really mind and was understanding of the situation. She raised him after all! To clear some stuff up- we’re both guys. Easy to miss that part lol. He’s definitely not cheating or anything like that. We share locations and he’s always at the office. Plus his colleagues always mention how much time he spends working so I’m confident it’s nothing like that. I feel kinda bad about everyone ragging on him in the replies because I really do love him but just needed to let out my frustration about the housework. I threw out the weaponized incompetence thing but it could just be regular old incompetence when it comes to things outside his field. His love language is words of affirmation while mine is acts of service so he gets incredibly sad when I tell him how to properly do things rather than appreciating his effort. I’ve stopped trying to correct his “methods”because he goes back to doing things his way (low effort or completing half of the task) every time and it always leads to both of us being upset. On some level he knows how bad he is at housework so he just focuses on things he’s really good at. That being said I think you guys had a great idea with getting outside help. I’m going to split up the chores more equitably and have him pay for a maid and landscaping for his portion. Hopefully this will lead to having more time together submitted by /u/MyTraumaDumpy to r/ComfortLevelPod [link] [comments]

How to fix a bad laundry room layout?
We recently moved and are struggling with this laundry room. The issues: - the room door opens inward, blocking the dryer door from opening unless the door is closed behind you. We took the room door down for now - the washer (right side) door location is fixed. It’s really difficult to move clothes from the washer to the dryer. You can even fit a small basket below the washer to help move things We’re trying to figure out the most pleasant long term solution here. A couple of ideas we’ve considered: - see if we can just swap the washer and dryer locations. The dryer door IS swappable, so we could have easier access between the two. Not sure the current hookups/vents would allow this - remove part or all of the upper cabinets, and stack the washer dryer. It seems silly to have unstacked front loaders in a narrow room. - replace the washer/dryer with top loading ones. Probably have to move the cabinets to be over the counter, but leaves more room to navigate and the room door is no longer an issue Then for the room door, replace it either a sliding door (those always seem janky after a couple of years), or a bifold door, or a ideally pocket door (but the light switch is located on that wall so that may not be feasible) Would appreciate ideas and suggestions! We are stumped. submitted by /u/mee765 to r/Remodel [link] [comments]

Ideas to make laundry room more practical.
Looking for ideas to make this space more practical. We would like to be able to store all of our household cleaning supplies and equipment such as vacuums, mops, and brooms while also having a pull out drying rack. Appreciate any suggestions. submitted by /u/Winter-Recognition34 to r/Homebuilding [link] [comments]

What could this box possibly be? The house was built in the 1850s. We want to remove it so we have more room to make a laundry room. If anyone has any ideas that would be awesome thank you!

AIO for asking my bf where he went and what he was doing?
My (F22) boyfriend (M22) have been together for 2 years, and have been living together for 1 year. We were cuddling around midnight when we accidentally fell asleep, and he woke up around 3am and decided to get up and finish the beer he was previously drinking, as well as turn off the lights. I woke up 5 minute later and got up to have a glass of water. We talked for 2 minutes and he told me he was finishing his drink and then going to bed. I went back to bed and then 5 more minutes later, I heard him get up and thought he was checking on the cats because they were causing havoc in our laundry room. 2 minutes go by and I heard a weird banging noise (was probably the neighbours as we live in an apartment complex), so I called out his name a couple times and he didn’t answer. So, I texted him asking him where he was. 3 minutes later I called him twice and he didn’t pick up. About 30 seconds after my second call, he texted me this. I’m a little unsure what I did wrong. It’s not like I was going to ask him anything else after the second question. I just found it weird he wasn’t answering and left without saying anything. Anyways, please let me know if I went too far by asking these two questions because I honestly have no idea what the problem is. And no, I didn’t assume he went out to cheat on me or something crazy. I strongly believe he would never do that. And he knows I’m not trying to accuse him of doing that either so I don’t understand the hesitation and arguing over answering a simple question. Laundry area before and after
Just finished this laundry room, it was a labor of love and one of the funner projects I’ve done. The floor tile was a pain but worth it. submitted by /u/shawnandbrit07 to r/HomeDecorating [link] [comments]

Small cloth bag with wood stand in a laundry room
I'm housesitting for a French friend of mine and they have this odd object in their laundry room. I thought it might be a refillable dryer ball/scent ball type thing but the wire at the top doesn't move. It doesn't seem to close, but maybe I'm not trying hard enough because I don't want to break it. They have two and they're both sat on the counter like this. Had an Idea for my university laundry room. We shall see how long it lasts
So far i’ve made my $12 invested back and then some. It’s been out for one weekend. It’s set out in a room with key card access, and free laundry machines, however we are supposed to provide our own detergent. Would you phrase the sign differently? submitted by /u/ClothesOk1926 to r/passive_income [link] [comments]

dudes, what should I add into this laundry room ?
photo 1 : phone flash // photo 2 : no flash I’m a student and made recently this laundry room with the 2 machines I use, a free table top and some chairs. Later I put a little table to drink booze with my gymbro My ideas would be : furnish and put some light because I can’t see sh*t, maybe put projector screen so we can watch awesome stuff while drinking booze and whisky My bros also had the idea to put a big table behind so we can play poker together. (For those who will ask for a bench and dumbbells, I’ll do that but on another room I own) submitted by /u/Positive-Law-4520 to r/malelivingspace [link] [comments]

Laundry room overhaul
It's taken quite a while but I should be finishing up the final bits this weekend. The wife wanted to switch the the all in one washer/dryer unit so we figured why not two since we have the space. I didn't consider how much extra work it would cause running a second 15a circuit and redoing all the supply and drain plumbing but oh well it's done. I did cap old dryer vent but left it as it wasn't in the way and would be hidden. I also left the dryer plug but just have the breaker turned off as it's not in use. The shelf was made with the locking slide out portions to make hook up and service easier (each are rated at 500lbs). The trim is held on magnets to hide the slide locks and cover the filter and hook up for the floor robot (supply and drain plumbed in with large inline filter). The litter box was upgraded to the litter robot 4 with litter hopper and the drawer slides out to fill the hopper on the back. The lower drawer I lined with plexiglass (to keep the wood from getting nasty) and is for litter storage. The cabinets will house extra supplies like TP, paper towels and detergent that get get in bulk, along with smaller stuff like extra batteries and cleaning solutions. The lower cabinet was made big enough to house big bags of pet food and the extra large cabinet above the washer is mainly just extra space to keep bulky things that are rarely used. Since we have to leave the door open at night for the robot to run, I installed a mmwave radar sensor to control the light so it turns on as soon as you walk into the room but the pets and robot won't trigger it. I just wanted to share the project and I hope you enjoy. It's been a very challenging project for how small the room is. submitted by /u/stump36 to r/DIY [link] [comments]

Before and after laundry room
Remodeled our laundry room a few months ago. There was not enough storage and it wasn’t very functional. Replaced the flooring with some black tiles from floor and decor, new recessed lighting, built ins for a ton of storage, and raised the height of the washer/dryer so we could get a basket underneath the doors. Curtain from wayfair. Paint is Sherwin Williams natural linen on the cabinets, west highland white on the walls. Our contractor was Humble Home Designs out of Dallas/Frisco and we highly recommend if you’re in the area! submitted by /u/balanoff to r/InteriorDesign [link] [comments]

Needing inspiration for my boring laundry room
The floors and counter are brand new, so I would like to keep those in any design ideas. There's a litter box tucked underneath the counter- any way to hide that are brownie points. Thanks so much! submitted by /u/RayJCee to r/HomeDecorating [link] [comments]

AITA for letting my parents make my stepsister clean my room and do my laundry?
So literally as the title says. My bio mom wants my (21M) little stepsister (15F) to help out around the house more. While she does do more chores, I’m also a college student and have more responsibilities. I’m networking and building my future career. If needed I could help out, but my mom says this is good character building for my stepsister. All she has to do is come in and clean/vacuum my room twice a week and take care of my laundry for me. If she completes these chores by Friday she can hang out with freinds. This is pretty minor since I’m a clean guy, but I was talking to my gf about the arrangement and she was taken aback and thought I was an asshole for letting her do those chores for me. I get that yeah I could do them myself by my mom insists she does them and my stepdad is fine with it. And I think it’s probably a good thing for her to learn responsibility and helping out around the house. She does some dishes and cleaning other parts of the house on top of this, but it’s nothing major reallly. AITA Edit 1: I should have explained this better. Both my mom and stepdad think she should do more housework. Part of my reasoning is that if she isn’t cleaning my room she might end up just doing a different chore that could be even more time consuming, so it’s kind of a win win. Edit 2: I’m debating weather to ask her to stop doing my room and letting my mom assign her another part of the house—such as the garage—or giving her a reward each week for helping me so it’s more of a win win. I was thinking every 2 weeks she gives me a shopping list and I’ll buy something ~$100? What are your thoughts on this? What is the best thing for me to do? Edit 3: Because if she’s not cleaning my room, she’ll be given other chores, I have to think of an alternative way to help her. My plan is to hid dollar bills in my laundry so it’s a reward for her, and to take her shopping now and then as a treat and a Thankyou and to show her that I’m on her side. I will also help her more with homework and advice. How does this sound to you guys? Any better ideas? This sounds like the best win win Edit 4: she has to do more chores bc she has bad behavior in the passed and has thus been given a bigger workload for the foreseeable future. If there’s improvement by Christmas I think her workload will decrease and I will advocate when that conversation happens Edit 5: Some people have pointed out that my parents harsh style on her could be doing more harm then good. In light of this Im going to try and be there more for her to talk to, and Im going to tell her she can always chill in my room or ask for favors from me. Im going to try and step up and be a good figure she can trust in. Thankyou for all the practical advice. I’m going to talk to her tonight and I’ll let you guys know how it goes UPDATE!!!: I talked to my step sister this morning about the situation. She said it’s nice for because of the following: I keep my room pretty clean so it only takes ~15 minutes, while my mom thinks it takes 1.5 hours plus. She also said doing my laundry isn’t that bad because she does it in the same load as hers, so the only real time commitment is folding it. The alternative to cleaning my room would likely be cleaning the garage which would take much more time. She said she prefers cleaning my room over the garage. I told her I emphasize with her situation and want to help her out. From now on, I’m going to give her some money each week to spend with freinds. Then, every now and then I will take her and her freinds to the movies, fairs, to dinner, and I will cover their tabs. She got extremely excited at this and gave me a big hug and texted her freinds so I think she’s happy! I figured taking her out to a treat, and turning the threat of punishment—no seeing freinds—into a reward is a good way to subvert my mom.
