I'm looking for some recommendations on a backpack style diaper bag. It doesn't need to be marketed as a diaper bag, but want it functional as such without a ton of modification. We are one and done, my daughter is 21mo and now that the weather is starting to get nicer and she is able to walk we can finally start going out without the stroller. Ok, I’ve searched through the history here and haven’t quite found what I’m looking for, so help me out! I want a backpack that can double as a great diaper bag, but that doesn’t become obsolete once I don’t need it for diapers anymore! Ideally, it would be carry-on/personal item sized, so I can use it for travel too (which means it needs to be on the bigger side). It should have solid zippers and durable build so I can use it for many years. Needs to accommodate a 16” MacBook. I made this bag freehand, all hand stitched no pattern. It has brown leather on the outside and grey inside and it's sewn in such a way that the inside can be pulled out and easily wiped down for thos times there things get messy. The straps can be worn either over a shoulder, or as handles, or as a backpack. And the closure bu kles are on clips so they can easily be opened in a hurry. This is my “diaper bag” setup that I used most recently on an 11 day trip to Hawaii but is also what I use for any daytime outing away from home! Things to note: Baby is currently 10 months old and eating solids I’m breastfeeding, so I don’t need bottles which definitely helps keep the list smaller I’m a Type 1 Diabetic and carry extra medical supplies I usually babywear (more on my carriers below), but on occasion I’ll use the Bombi travel stroller instead The List: Purse/Backpack - I switch between the Latico Aleks backpack (discontinued now) and the Travelon Anti-Theft Signature Slim Backpack. Both are very close in size and layout. The Latico bag is more stylish but the Travelon is a little more comfortable for longer outings. Baby Carrier - I currently use the Happy Baby Original baby carrier (pictured) and love it because it is very light weight and packs down small. I can front or back carry my baby for over an hour and still be comfortable (they are 20lbs now). It was great in Hawaii and baby and I never got too hot. It also worked well through this past New England winter - I just bundled myself and baby up. I recently bought a Lenny Lamb onbuhimo for a higher back carry so baby can see over my shoulder. I might look into a different purse/backpack when I go out with this carrier instead, TBD. Diapers x2 - I bring more depending on length of outing, but 2 will get me through 2-4 hours of being out and about Wipes x10 - folded individually for easy grabbing, stored in a Ziplock bag. I bring more if going on a longer outing. Munchkin Diaper Trash Bag x5 - I like these because they are scented and use them for dirty diapers or dirty clothes. Aquaphor Diaper Cream, 1.75 oz Munchkin Waterproof Liner- A recent change out from AVA + OLIVER Vegan Leather Baby Changing Mat, thanks to u/zeatherz’s suggestion! This has been working great so far. Extra outfit for baby - socks, pants, onesie Sun Hat Pacifier Pacifier Clip Toy Leash - I really like this toy leash! It is extremely compact and easy to attach toys to highchair or myself when I need to entertain baby Toy - current toy is a couple of Itzy Ritzy Rings, but I swap out the toy occasionally Bib - After trying a couple of different types, the Bumkins bib washes easily, dries quickly, and folds really small. I can also throw them in the washing machine which is great. Spoon - Now baby is older, I’m considering removing this since a normal spoon works just fine when we are out. But this was great when baby was 6-8 months old! Silicone Bowl - I find this bowl from SoHo Living to have the perfect shape and depth for holding the edge so baby can’t knock it down while eating out. Also, the lip makes it easier for them to grab food off the plate. I clean with a wipe after we are done eating at a restaurant. Suction on bottom doesn’t work (but I haven’t found any that work, no matter the brand). Fruit Pouch for snack - it was a game changer when baby learned to eat directly from the pouch! Much cleaner than spoon feeding purees when not at home Cheerios for snack Nuk Sippy Cup without handle - this is optional, if I don’t bring this baby can drink with straw or open cup (although we both tend to get soaked!). I removed the handle to save space in my bag. Hand Sanitizer Tissues Sunscreen stick Gum Hair Ties Bandaids Chapstick Tweezers Nail File Alive & Antacid in glass bottle Saalt Period Disk- I used to use a period cup but they didn’t fit the same and were painful postpartum. The period disk has been a fantastic alternative! Although a little messier than a cup, I actually prefer it.
