Reclaiming my space after my ex wouldn’t allow me to have any of my stuff in the living room
Usually I keep the curtains open but have closed them for privacy in these photos! Anyway, basically my ex dumped me because I was too depressed, and I’ve been spending time redoing my living room, which she always claimed was “her” room. Any time I tried to add anything pink, it would be removed. And this was despite me paying the rent and bills for 9.5 years! I moved my desk in here from the office to take advantage of the better lighting and more space. I work from home primarily, so this is where I spend most of my time! Anyway, I’m really starting to love the space but I’d love any suggestions on how to elevate it further. I am renting, so there are a few restrictions. And I have a 3 month old kitten, hence the new furniture additions and lack of real plants! submitted by /u/Jazzlike-Coach4151 to r/femalelivingspace [link] [comments]

I GOT ONE ENTIRE SIDE OF THE LIVING ROOM CLEARED!!!
Mom helped too, I didn’t expect her to because she was busy today but she got home and helped me! We can open the door fully!!! For the first time in, honestly decades if the ages of the mail we found were accurate I found a purple hippo beanie baby, big stain on the side but can be washed. As well as more things of photos, including one from a Christmas party that my mom hosted here at our house in 2001. Stuff was already piling up in the corners and on the table. It wasn’t bad and the floor and furniture was clear, but I could notice it. I didn’t realize it started that early, I thought I was 5 when the house started piling up. And I discovered that we have a door jam for the front door. Never knew that cause that area was piled before. Also, somewhere in the living room is a coffee table, didn’t know we had that either. Now that everything on that side of the living room has the trash removed, my next step is the giant mail pile right next to the front door on the other side and attempting to unearth one of our couches. Oh, quick PSA, I will not be active the next few weeks, I know I just got back but I’m heading back to my grandparents for about a week and a bit next week, so I’ll be back on February 19th. Have a happy Valentine’s Day, and if you’re in the paths of the winter storms I hope you stay safe and warm. submitted by /u/LoveDesignAndClean to r/UnfuckYourHabitat [link] [comments]

TVs are ugly and do not belong front and centre in your living room
A TV has no place in your primary relaxation/socialisation space, and they make your living room look ugly. Art/bookshelves/furniture are always better suited to the space that a TV normally occupies. More effort should be put into disguising your TV if you have to have it in your living room. Otherwise it is better to have it elsewhere or not own one at all. submitted by /u/angus_101 to r/The10thDentist [link] [comments]

Which living room layout is best?
I’m struggling with how to design my living room. I started out with layout 1. But I decided to push the couch up because I wanted the layout to feel more intentional (rather than have all furniture pushed up against the walls). That’s layout 2. For layout 3, I moved the sideboard to the back wall so that I could possibly incorporate more seating to the window side. My current couch is a little deep (40 inches). Im looking to replace it with something less deep. But also considering changing for and L shaped sectional or sectional with chaise. Would love any suggestions! Also, acknowledging the TV is too high but I’m not looking to move it from its current location above the fireplace. Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/thepenismightier1999 to r/InteriorDesignHacks [link] [comments]

My first solo apartment’s living room! Feat. taxidermy gator and terrible fruit lamp.
Hey all! I’ve finally hung art in my living room, and figured it was time to get some feedback. I don’t feel nearly done, but I do feel good about the vibe in general. This is the first time I’ve lived alone (I’m 37). My previous roommate (male) was all about that pristine MCM life, whereas I like more of a ‘70s kitsch maximalist look. In short, after years of Eames chairs and Op Art, I pretty much went insane once I realized I could do literally anything I wanted. And so I did, no holds barred. Half of the furniture is from Amazon, because I’m broke, and everything else is thrifted, gifted, and/or found over these past couple decades. I recently moved to a small town in the PNW from Brooklyn, and gotta say, I’m pretty addicted to all of the weird thrifting one can do out here in these cute little seaside towns. I’m 100% open to feedback! Except about the fruit lamp. I’m very, very aware that it is revolting (and yes, I DIY’d that lampshade as the effed up pièce de résistance), but it belonged to my faux-fruit-obsessed grandmother, and it makes me smile every time I look at it. The fruit lamp stays. Thanks for reading and for your feedback. 💕 submitted by /u/thatbroadcast to r/femalelivingspace [link] [comments]

AITA for saying my MIL cannot stay in our living room for two months?
My husband (30) and I (32) are newlyweds. Shortly after getting married we got pregnant and I just had my son last month. My husband and his parents immigrated to Canada when he was around 10 years old. His parents live across the country and have been planning to come visit for two weeks in the new year, although they keep changing the dates. Earlier this week while we were all FaceTiming she announced that they were coming to stay for 2 months, which was a huge surprise as we only ever discussed having her for two weeks. When they visited over the summer we all talked about their visit post partum and decided they would need to stay elsewhere because we have a two bed one bathroom apartment. It is very small and my sons room will not fit a bed or mattress, just his crib dressers and toys (he still sleeps in our room in his bassinet but his furniture is all assembled in the nursery). Because his mom decided (did not ask just told us) to come for two months she assumed she could stay with us as her husband will only be joining the last week of the trip due to work. My husband and I discussed this and I said that will not work for me, we only have two bedrooms and a very small home, I’m not comfortable with her staying on our living room floor for two weeks let alone two months. The baby and I get up early and that is his space to play and we have a routine. My husband would not listen to this, and said if his mom wants to stay here she can. I was firm that was not going to work for me. Now it’s important to say that my husbands brother lives in the apartment complex next to us, literally next door. He also does not have an extra bedroom for her but a big spacious living room and it would be much easier. The brother also works away so out of the two months she is here he will be away one month she will have the place to herself. I asked my husband if she can stay there. I took it upon myself to send a very kind message to his mom that also expressed my boundary. I let her know we are very excited to learn she will be here for a few months and it will be amazing for our baby to spend so much time with his gramma, and I look forward to doing fun stuff together as a family with the baby every single day. I then said it would be wonderful if she can stay next door either the brother so she would be nice as close. I did not explicitly say she cannot stay here but ofcourse it is implied. She called my husband making a big deal and said I’m rude and made her feel unwelcome. This caused an argument between my husband and I as he agreed with her, reiterating that if his mom wants to stay here we will have her. He told her as much too. I stayed firm that no absolutely not. He also knows this is simply a space thing, I’ve said many times if we had an extra bedroom I would love to have his mom come visit more and help with the baby. Although I mean come for two weeks not two months. His solution is that if there is no space for her then he will go stay at his brothers. Which means his mom and I would have to share a bed…….? I said that is absurd and he said I’m selfish and he is embarassed I would make his mom feel so unwelcome. I told him we can finish the conversation later because he’s at work and I have my hands full with a newborn. He essentially let me know if I don’t apologize and make it right with his mom (ie let her know she can stay with us longterm) him and I will not be on good terms. I refuse to accept that. His mom is not coming for a few more months and I am fully prepared to stay elsewhere for the two months she is here (with my baby) if they do not respect my request for some space and have her stay with her other son and spend the days together. I should also mention despite being on maternity leave I pay 40% of the bills and my name is on the lease. I have not apologized to his mom yet because I do not know what to say. Perhaps I shouldn’t have messaged her, however my husband made it clear she can stay as long as she wants and I needed to set the boundary. Any advice on how to address this with her (or him) would be appreciated. AITA I declined my MIL staying two months on our living room floor a few months postpartum? submitted by /u/ThrowRA55556752111 to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

Is my living room too busy?
Has my living area become too busy? I may have gone over board lol. I recently moved my snake enclosure to the dining area and now im wondering if all the plants, paintings and bits and bops in general are a little too much. Maybe im over thinking it because the enclosure is large but idk!!! Help 😭 i was thinking of downsizing the amount of goodies sprinkled throughout. Literally in the middle of cleaning lol. I was rearranging furniture one day and decided to just do some random painting which is where the shapes on the wall came from as a side note. It's not perfect but I like the colors! submitted by /u/Fragrant-Duty-1205 to r/femalelivingspace [link] [comments]

Why do i hate my living room?
I've been trying to decorate the house for a while now, and I'm having a lot of problems with the living room. Starting with the fact that the ceiling was wooden, I painted it white (I don't know if it was the best choice). I put dark wood on the floor and bought a brown suede sofa bed. The problem comes with the wallpaper I insisted on putting up because I did it by hand, and I'm not sure whether it's the texture or the gold. I tried to adapt it by buying the rug, cushions, and table (I'd like to keep the table and rug), but I still wasn't convinced. I added molding to one wall and painted it etched, just like the furniture (the furniture is for a built-in electric fireplace). Currently, I hate going into the living room; I don't like it at all, and it makes me feel repulsive and anxious because I don't know what to do. submitted by /u/licifu5 to r/Decor [link] [comments]

Diagnosis: Why don't we use our living room?
We never sit in our living room? I think the loungers take up too much footbring and and obstruct the space, but I'm not sure what to replace them with. I like the look of the room, but it's just not cozy. I would like to play games and read together more easily. All the furniture is second hand except the couch and can be parted with or replaced, but I'm having a tough time because it does all seem to fit right now. submitted by /u/steady_as_she_rides to r/DesignMyRoom [link] [comments]

My husband thinks our living room is too beige/boring - is he right?
I've taken 4 photos of our living room from different perspectives and would love any thoughts or ideas. I think its fine, but my husband thinks it's too beige/bland. I've tried incorporating color in the past but it's never really worked. A couple of things to note: - we have young kids so we decided not to have a coffee table so there's more space for play. We have a memory foam beanbag instead. - we have no curtains as I don't think there's enough space on either side of the main window to accommodate the fabric. We have decent privacy so not really a huge issue - the room is around 25 square meters (270 square feet I believe?) - we don't really want any more furniture in this space given point 1 above so it's probably more a question of how I can improve how it all looks with replacing pieces as opposed to adding without taking away Thanks! submitted by /u/Remarkable_Test_6285 to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

Cleaned my depression room after living like this for about a year
I know what you may be thinking- how in the world can someone live like that? That’s disgusting, and I know. But here’s a little context: This has absolutely been the worst year or so of my life. I was taking care of my sick father for a bit, who passed away about 6 months ago from cancer. When I wasn’t doing that, I was in nursing school. We’re talking 3-6 tests daily, homework up to your knees, etc. I was awkward being one of the youngest in my class and struggling with social interaction as I already have anxiety. So daily, I was stressed, felt like everyone hated me, and I was scared for my dad. When he did pass away it tore me apart. I stopped taking care of myself, and that’s what lead to my room getting this bad. It was messy from the start, but it really took a turn for the worst. I finally decided to get ahold of myself, and so around 48 hours of hard work, this is where we are and I feel so much better. It still looks a bit rough with some furniture and because my carpet is so stained (from mystery liquids, paint, mud, dogs asserting themselves.. this carpet has been in for around 9 years, I was a messy kid) but I’m going to get new carpet in about 2 weeks and finish declutterring the small stuff. I feel this is such a huge transformation, and hopefully it can show someone who’s in my situation that you deserve a clean space. It’s not easy, but you can do it. submitted by /u/send-me-pics-of-cats to r/CLEANING_PORN [link] [comments]

My wife screwed two of our closest friends in our living room while I slept upstairs.
UPDATE AT THE BOTTOM I never thought this would be a concern. It was the most perfect part of our relationship, the complete trust we had in each other. Two nights ago, they were hanging out. I had to go to bed early as I had to work early the next morning. Important note is I am recovering from a major surgery and unable to have sex atm. We are pretty open but we have two hard rules when it comes to the possibility of sex outside our marriage. We haven’t acted on that yet. But the conversations have been had. And the rules written in stone. 1) No friends. 2) everyone has to be present and on board. The fact that she blatantly broke all of these rules is bad enough. The worst part is that she asked me about it as I was going to bed. I explicitly said, “you can make out. I don’t care. But not hands beneath clothes. And clothes stay on”. They were having some pretty intense trauma discussions. So in the morning when I realized my wife still was not in bed, I checked the camera in our living room to make sure everyone was okay. Instead… I got a front row seat to my wife and our two friends fucking for 2-4 hours off and on. I threw my phone down and went to the bathroom to try to regain my composure. Plus I thought I was going to vomit. While I was in there she came upstairs and laid down. When I walked in she created me like she normally does. I confronted her about what I saw. I waited for an apology. Still haven’t received that. She flatly said, “ohhhh I fffuuucked up”. As if she had forgotten to turn the lights off or forgot to feed the dog. Not… oh hey you asked my permission and when I laid out boundaries you blew them up as if they never mattered. I’m honestly still in shock. The rest of the morning was traumatic. She broke doors. She socked her friend in the stomach. The friend tried to prevent her from getting in her car in a suicidal state. My inner petty didn’t hate that, but it’s still not okay. It ended with her being escorted to an ambulance after cutting herself. I’m currently staying with my friend a little ways away. I blocked my wife. It didn’t matter how many times I asked for space, she never gave it to me. After talking to my therapist, my mom and my best friend, I’m still no closer to decided if I’m leaving or giving her a chance to fix it. It’s fucked. She’s my person. But I deserved so much better than this. She fucked our close friends while I was sleeping, recovering from a hysterectomy, AND I WAS ALREADY GOING TO FIND A NON-FREIND FOR HER TO PLAY WITH!! I hate this. So much. UPDATE 8/9/23 Thanks for all of the input and advice. When I wrote this I was still very much in shock and processing. Someone of you accurately identified that my wife has BPD. She also had a lot of complex trauma that she doesn’t really address. Also that we are all women. After sitting on it for about 3-4 days, I realized I didn’t have much of a choice. It wasn’t about her infidelity. Which is fucking bullshit. Several of your provided some insight into the behavior that I really think I ignored because of how much I love her. The fact is, she has been ignoring my boundaries our entire relationship. Every time I would enforce consequences for that, she would become suicidal. I continued to ignore this because I love her. On Monday, I made a choice. I decided to end my marriage. But I also decided that I was going to do it with love. I contacted her therapist so they were prepared for the conversation. I also got some advice on how best to express it. I’m giving her enough furniture and household essentials for her next apartment. I have purchased nearly everything in our home. I decided to talk to my wife’s ex about their kids. The youngest is 7. My fear is that their 7 year old brain won’t be able to separate them getting in trouble the night before from our separation. Kids associate things so weirdly, I don’t want to inflict that. I also love those kids so much. I came home Monday night and calmly explained what I wanted and needed. Which was to end our marriage. I’m giving her 35 days to find a new place. I will also be moving. I explained that the infidelity was the catalyst but it was not the underlying cause. The cause is her behavior and actions. Yes, drugs were involved. And I begged her not to use them. She did it anyway. She also re-dosed. I allowed her to share her version of what happened that night. Unfortunately, it didn’t line up to the camera footage. Which she also argued. The gaslighting continued. She refused to accept that I was really done. She threatened suicide. She talked about signing over parental rights to her ex. She just continued not taking accountability. It went on for two hours before I lost it in a quiet rage and went upstairs to bed. The following morning she continued with the victim mentality. I continued to hold the line that she needed to do what she had to. I could no longer assist her in existing as an adult. Or try to get her to address her issues. Eventually, she started to consider and move forward with the plan moving out. We told the kids yesterday. They were devastated. And it crushed me. Their mom reached out and told me she was sorry to hear. She also told me I could see the kids whenever I wanted. We had bonded and she would never dream of preventing us from still having any kind of relationship. I spent the evening surrounded by friends getting me drunk and supporting me. I’m actually looking forward to my next chapter. Still very heartbroken. But very sure, this is the only way forward. submitted by /u/Rough-Photograph-114 to r/TrueOffMyChest [link] [comments]

AITA for telling my roommate my stripper pole is staying in the living room?
A few months ago, I (F20) decided I wanted to take up pole dancing. I told my roommates Amanda (F20) and Holly (F26) that I was thinking of getting one and installing it in the living room, and they said go ahead. Side note: we had no furniture at the time, so this pole was installed in an empty living room. A little while later, since nobody else was getting furniture, I got a couch off Facebook Marketplace. Holly also got a TV for the living room. Right after we got the TV, Holly demanded that we move the pole out of the backside of the living room so that the TV and couch could fit in the corner where the pole already is. I was confused by her request because the couch was already placed close to the centre of the living room and there was an outlet available for the TV to go in front of the couch. I asked Holly why she wanted to move it into the corner, and she said because she wants a "cozy little nook." I told her that the pole is quite difficult to move and install, and the pole being in its existing spot gives me enough room; the new spot she suggested would have me slightly in the way of the hallway, and I couldn’t tell if there was a stud where she wants to move it to. Because of those reasons, I told Holly kindly that I wouldn’t be moving the pole. and the couch can stay where it is on the other side of the living room. partly because I own the couch, and since she simply asked me, I'm allowed to say no. She didn’t respond well to this; she contacted our rental company and told them that we had an "unauthorised stripper pole" in our unit that no one agreed to. An administrator came to our unit and told me that the pole needed to be removed. I was obviously pissed she snitched on me, so I told Holly if she still wants her "cozy little nook," she can get her own couch. I'm restricting her from using mine. [OC] About a month ago, local bodega in the Bronx rejected a kitten for being too playful. I took her in and discovered she has pre-installed software. She can play fetch. So got rid of furniture in living room to make more room for fetch.

My wife and I bought our first home, a 70s mod house, and I can finally put my collection of almost entirely thrifted 70s space age furniture in it. Here is the upstairs living room, plenty more rooms to work on now!
