Loofah

When I hear the word 'bathe' it conjures the idea of soapy lather being applied with friction to the skin, either with a cloth, loofah, or just the hands. If you don't use soap then you don't bathe. You just rinse.

A friend told me you're supposed to replace your shower loofah every 3–4 weeks because bacteria builds up in them. That honestly surprised me because I’ve had the same one for close to a year. I rinse it out after every shower and let it dry, but I never thought about replacing it that often. I got one of those loofah alternatives from Amazon (this one specifically) and while it's not terrible (and I'm sure it's much cleaner than those cheap regular loofahs), it feels like I'm using double the soap for maybe half of the suds, and it just seems to "run out of soap" much faster. Which is unfortunate, as I feel like that's kind of a waste of body wash. But I also don't want to use those cheap loofahs, either, considering how nasty they get. I also don't like using washcloths that much due to the fact I feel like it doesn't sud up as much (maybe I'm doing it wrong), although I regret buying my loofah alternative as I feel like a washcloth achieves pretty much the same effect. Of course, I do like the fact that a washcloth and my loofah alternative is more environmentally friendly. It's not that I don't care about that aspect at all, it's just me wondering if they use more soap in the long run. Should I just get those cheap $1 loofahs and just replace them regularly and often? Is there another way of washing that I'm missing? Am I doing something wrong? edit: Thank you so much everyone!!! I'm taking all of your recommendations and trying a couple things to see which one I like best. I'm going to leave this post up so others can see, get ideas, and comment something else they recommend if they'd like! edit 2: I just want to say, if it isn't obvious, I do NOT recommend the body scrubber I listed a link to! It doesn't lather up well at all, it takes multiple pumps of body wash for a small amount of lather, and it's expensive (compared to its alternatives). I usually dry brush prior to bath and use hands to form lather since loofahs are a known bacterial breeding ground. But the drawback of using hands is that I tend to go through my body washes at a much faster rate as it takes a lot of product to form decent lather. So I have been looking to buy a silicon scrubber (I would have gone for the African net sponge but the ones available where I live seem to be fake). Which one should I go for?
