First off, I'm not trying to defend clowns like Clavicular who advocate things like bone-smashing and micro-dosing methamphetamine. I'm against either gender feeling pressured to take extreme measures to augment their appearance, but I find myself wondering why there seems to be such a double-standard on this topic? But if you boil down the idea of "looks-maxing", it seems to me the main argument is that these young men believe that looking more conventionally attractive will get them advantages in dating and other areas of life, like employment. It seems to me that women have been operating under this assumption since the beginning of time. Yes you have some very extreme and risky measures taken by men to try to look better, like limb-lengthening surgery and the aforementioned bone-smashing, but is this really that much more extreme than: Getting silicone bags implanted in the chest which might pop and induce sepsis Having fat transferred from the midsection to the butt, in a procedure which might result in death Having neurotoxin injected into the face to paralyze muscles Injections and surgery on the face to change your features and bone structure A lot of this stuff is seen as a status-symbol on social media for women, while men who speak openly about things they've done to improve their "beauty" (aside from going to the gym) are met with derision. When male politicians are "caught" wearing shoes giving them a couple extra cm of height, they become the butt of a joke and it's something they have to deny. Like I have seen a lot of comments and joke headlines saying looks maxers are undergoing "gender affirming care" or are "male-to-male transitioning". Ordered custom spoonflower fabrics that matched my girls personalities and then made these adorable makeup bags with waterproof vinyl lining! Quilted most of the outer fabric with a diamond shape but free-formed quilted some based on the fabric type. I learned how to do a zipper insert so they have an outer pocket and added these amazing labels to make them more personal. Overall they were a huge hit and a stress reliever for me in the depths of wedding planning because I could crank them out once I got in the zone! (pls check recently posted update!!) https://reddit.com/r/AdviceForTeens/s/3PzDn2DSWz i (17) am a currently a senior in high school and my state recently passed legislation that would make having a vape or vape paraphernalia (such as chargers) an automatic suspension even if you happen to be in the same room or your first offense. yesterday i was in the bathroom during lunch and i had my backpack outside the stalls because they’re a bit cramped. i heard someone come in and some zipping but didn’t think anything of it and then when i left the stall there was nobody there and i noticed my jacket had been moved. when my mom picked me up i took out my makeup bag to reapply some lipgloss and the vape came out, my mom was obviously pretty upset and thought i was lying until i told her she could drug test me (she didn’t, but i think she eventually realized that it was a flavor that i wouldn’t even want) i was obviously freaking out about the entire thing and kept telling her to pull over so we could throw it away since i was technically a MIP (minor in possession) and there was a cop car nearby (tbh the roles were reversed because i was freaking out and she was the chill one) she threw it away and we talked about it and decided not to tell dad since i’m a senior, college is on my mind and i’m worried that something like this could’ve affected my chances of getting scholarships and i honestly don’t know what to think about what happened because i don’t think there’s anybody who had anything against me. now i’m wondering if it was a friend or if has anything to do with my name being written on walls/mirrors multiple times in that bathroom.
