Red Lobster manager accused of refusing service to a black family is fired
https://atlantablackstar.com/2026/03/11/red-lobster-manager-accused-of-refusing-service-to-black-family-reportedly-now-out-of-a-job/ >A manager at a Red Lobster in New Jersey was reportedly fired after refusing service to a family because they were Black, according to customer Vinchel Lapree, who was one of 15 people turned away. >A new video captures the moment a white manager storms off after being confronted by family members who questioned why they weren’t seated. >Harsh insults were exchanged, and one family member warned that the video would be sent to corporate and posted on social media. >“I don’t care, f**king leave!” the manager screamed before disappearing into a back room while hollering, “Remember my name.” The woman filming quipped, “Oooh, she won’t have a job tomorrow.” >According to a March 10 report by local news outlet Vineland Today, the manager was fired after the video went viral. >Social media commenters agreed, stating the alleged firing was the correct choice. >“Good!! I don’t know the whole story, but she is in customer service. She should never have said anything that she did. She handled that all wrong!!” wrote one Facebook user. >Many viewers noted that the CEO of Red Lobster, Damola Adamolekun, is Nigerian-born, saying, “Your CEO is literally a black man, ma’am.” >In the end, refusing customers is never a good idea. I've stopped trying to explain what Managed Services means
I was at a family dinner this weekend, and my cousin asked me if I could look at his gaming PC because it was running slow. I tried, against my better judgment, to explain that I don’t really do residential break/fix anymore. I started talking about B2B infrastructure, endpoint security, RMM policies, and proactive maintenance. I gave the whole we are like the electric company for business data analogy. He stared at me blankly for about ten seconds, took a bite of his burger, and said, "Okay, but can you remove the virus or not?" I realized right then that to 99% of the world, we aren't Virtual CIOs or strategic partners. We are just the "Computer Janitors." I used to get offended by it. Now I just say, "Yeah, bring it by on Tuesday," and then I hand it to one of my Tier 1 techs as a training exercise. Does anyone actually have a layman's explanation of MSP work that works? submitted by /u/Aware-Platypus-2559 to r/software [link] [comments]

Is Managed Services better than Consulting/ Advisory?
I, Big 4 consulting professional, was considering a Managed Services role, but am hesitant because I've been in the Advisory Consulting space my whole career. While I have done some work similar to Managed Services with a couple clients, I'm not sure if it's the better move. I'm trying to get in at the Manager level. Would Consulting be the better area? Please give me your thoughts, I did try looking at old posts but there was limited info. You might wonder why go from a Big 4 to another Big 4, and I wish I had a better answer for you. The employment situation has gone beyond triple-critical. We have a perfect storm of increasing authoritarianism, toxicity in the workplace and one of the most challenging role vacancies situation certainly in my lifetime. Add to that the threat of how the billionaires, and governments, are delivering AI without regard to the workforce and implications on society. I think that in terms of push and pull factors that it is time to try and get ahead of the curve. I have had businesses previously but preferred contracting for an easy life. I am thinking about starting a SMSP to try and remain somewhat independent from the environmental challenges mentioned above. I do have products in mind and some are partially constructed. But, to build a robust SMSP takes more than one person. I am looking potentially for a range of skill sets relevant to an SMSP. Of course, this is the initial stage. There is no funding. This is not an attempt to use skills for free but to discuss how we all might help each other. How can this be setup? As a co-operative or something? We could discuss and agree these things. This might sound naive but you know things really have reached such a point that I really do not think that there is a choice anymore. Please DM me and if there is sufficient interest, I will arrange an initial meeting where we can meet each other and discuss this in more detail. submitted by /u/Significant-Crow-974 to r/Startup_Ideas [link] [comments]

Declining the 12.5% "service charge", does the manager always make a visit?
Semi rant, semi question - Just had a weekend visit in London from East Anglia and found the discretionary 12.5% service charge added to restaurant bills extremely common. The manager always seems to make an appearance as if to interrogate you of the audacious request to remove it. Does that always happen? I hate it. This Americanised crap should not be commonplace in England. I am a firm believer of tipping however much you feel if such service warrants one. Update 2: my work is requiring 75 hrs of volunteer community service from managers. I spoke up and was instructed to meet with the head of HR. details in comment.
I had a meeting the head of HR concerning the email I sent earlier. To answer some common Qs first: Q) It doesn't say required. A) it does in the original email and we were told verbally it's required, unpaid, and on our own time. We must track hours and submit them to HR. There is no specified consequence for failure to comply. I guess they assume we will all fall in line. Q) companies can require volunteer work from salaried people. A) not unpaid and on our own time, per the NLRB and Cabinet of Labor. It's not part of our regular duties nor would it be expected of anyone based on our industry and skills. Q) what company? Where are you? A) telling you that would doxx myself. I'm in Kentucky in the USA. Q) have you talked to a lawyer? A) I contacted the NLRB, who said it wasn't really something they handle unless I am fired and then I can bring a case of wrongful termination. But they agreed it is illegal. I contacted the Department of Wage and Hours and they claimed it's allowed because it's a "condition of employment." I called the Kentucky Cabinet of Labor and they said it IS illegal to require volunteer hours even from salaried managers. I have also asked 3 labor lawyers for consultations. Q) forwards everything and prepare for termination. A) done and done! Q) why 75 hours? Why 7500 hours? A) the goal is to "celebrate" the 75th anniversary of the company's founding. We have over 500 employees but not nearly that many managers. So the company wants to make a PR release about their staff "giving back to the community." Q) are you fired? A) not yet! I also told my coworkers what I had done and showed them my sources and resources, and reminded then that they can raise their own concerns if they feel comfortable doing so. So if I am fired, no matter what spin the company puts on it, they'll know the truth and they'll have their own info about their rights as workers. Now for the update: I met with the head of HR this morning. I recorded the meeting (KY is a one-party consent state) and transcribed it. In summary, the head of HR (let's call them J) had 3 takeaways for me. First, that I was correct in that they cannot require volunteer hours from hourly associates, but they are "looking into" requiring it of salaried managers. I offered them the phone number to the Kentucky Department of Labor person to whom I spoke, who said she'd be happy to discuss it with our HR team. They snipped, "I don't need to call her. We have our own legal team. Which is what we're working with." Second, that the intent behind this requirement is a "celebration" of all the things the founder did to give back to the community. To quote, "he has, in his legacy, how he always gave back to (city), he always wanted to partner with local business." I replied, "requiring two weeks of unpaid labor from your managers doesn't feel like it's celebrating anything but slave labor, honestly... when you make it a requirement, it's not volunteering, it's voluntolding. And it just kinda feels dirty to me to do that." To which they said that the first question from associates is always if managers are doing it, if they themselves are, if the CEO is... etc. Third, J wants me to come to them directly with any concerns verbally so we can talk about it because they said my email sounded "frustrated and angry." They want me to "hear our side" and they didn't respond via email because "I wanna talk to (OP), I wanna, like, understand each other rather than kinda going back on email and putting our own interpretation into the words." It was a ten minute conversation. The HR leader is looking into the matter. I followed up with a brief email (BCC'ed to myself): "Thank you for the discussion today. I look forward to hearing back from you once you have looked into the legality of requiring salaried managers to complete unpaid volunteer hours in the community outside of normal working hours. I understand the intent of (company) was to encourage volunteerism and community spirit and to give back to the community. My coworkers and I, however, find the requirement of volunteering to be absurd as the spirit of volunteering is rooted in the VOLUNTEER aspect. Forced or coerced volunteerism is a punishment and a chore, not a celebration. I appreciate your candor today and look forward to your findings." I included the part about not being the only one annoyed about this requirement as I have spoken to several coworkers and am bringing this complaint on all our behalves, which is a protected labor right per the NLRB agent I spoke to. This makes clear that I bring this complaint in sincerity and gives me certain legal protections. Next up: HR's findings. Might still be fired who knows. submitted by /u/KoriatCyredanthem to r/WorkReform [link] [comments]

Knight Brokerage is the Counterparty that made the shortable shares error - according to a phone call I just had with a customer service manager at Fidelity...
I just got off the phone with a customer service manager at Fidelity, whom I was routed to after initially calling to Directly Register (DRS) the remaining shares of $GME that I have in Fidelity. After spending over a half-hour on the phone with this person and asking numerous times who the counterparty was that made the $2B "error" regarding shortable $GME shares, he informed me that the counterparty is a company called "Knight Brokerage". Why is it that the counterparty's name cannot be mentioned yet on reddit, but it can be discussed via phone calls to customer service managers when customers call in to ask for the name of the counterparty? Why is Fidelity covering up for this "Knight Brokerage" if the error was not something that originally stemmed from within Fidelity's internal systems? To me, this makes this situation seem even more fishy, and has confirmed that I am making the correct decision to DRS 100% of my $GME shares. EDIT: It is more than likely that the Customer Service Manager I spoke with today misspoke. Maybe a Freudian slip? "Knight Brokerage" appears to be a trucking group, while "Knight Capital Group" appears to (more than likely) be the counterparty we have been looking for. More information on KCG can be found in /u/elonmusksaveus /u/NotBerger and /u/Swannie69 's comments below: https://www.reddit.com/r/Superstonk/comments/r6l6rf/knight_brokerage_is_the_counterparty_that_made/hmu360a/?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Superstonk/comments/r6l6rf/knight_brokerage_is_the_counterparty_that_made/hmu0vye/?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Superstonk/comments/r6l6rf/knight_brokerage_is_the_counterparty_that_made/hmtvlaj/ EDIT #2: /u/RAdm_Teabag has brought it to my attention that Knight Swift Transportion filed a schedule 13G this year naming FMC and Abigail Johnson as a significant shareholder (about 12 million shares). Abigal Johnson is the current CEO of Fidelity. https://d18rn0p25nwr6d.cloudfront.net/CIK-0001492691/8aa80f71-b98a-4867-b438-ca4d5419afb4.pdf submitted by /u/WhatUpCoral to r/Superstonk [link] [comments]

TIL that sleight of hand artist Apollo Robbins was so proficient that he once managed to pick the pockets of 2 secret service agents assigned to former president Jimmy Carter. He managed to steal the forner president's itinerary, the keys to his motorcade and the badges of the agents.

LPT: When satisfied with a service, go out of your way to talk to the manager about it. Managers aren't just for complaints. A good manager will mention it to the employee (and it will make their day) and will increase their chances at a promotion.

LPT: If you have an especially good experience with a customer service person, (in addition to a nice tip, if applicable) be an "anti-Karen" and ask to speak to their manager about what a great job they're doing. It makes the employee's day and can help them get promotions.
I once had a manager who didn't like me that much, but the customers loved me and kept saying so, and now I have that manager's old job. Positive feedback is so rare in customer service. It's 99% complaints about stuff that isn't your fault. But those few kind words from customers helped me get through some hellish shifts and advance in my career. Edit: Obvs this will vary from workplace to workplace and it can be inconvenient for the employee and manager in question if they're super busy at that moment. Comment consensus tips are: keep praise vague (they may have skirted policy to take care of you), mention the employee by name, fill out any survey on the receipt or at the end of the phone call with max scores and the employee's name so there's a record, tell the employee why you're asking for the manager so they don't get scared, leave a great name-drop review in online spaces, if sliding into the dms of a corporate account be sure to include the store location along with the employees name. Edit 2: Some of y'all work for shitty managers. That sucks very much and I'm sorry. It's a bad situation that isn't your fault and you deserve better. I hope you'll be able to get out of that job soon and get into something better where you can shine. Edit 3: "Wow, this blew up" time. Thank you for all the kind messages that came with the awards. They mean more than the awards themselves. It feels like you're telling my manager (reddit) that I'm doing a good job. submitted by /u/modestmolerat to r/LifeProTips [link] [comments]
