Did you choose a mobility scooter or a power wheelchair, and why?
I’m still ambulatory, and this would not primarily be for errands or use around the house. The main goal would be to help me participate in family outings (parks, beaches, museums, zoos, vacations, boardwalks, etc.) without triggering PEM by going past my limits. Right now, anything involving prolonged waking or standing can cause significant payback or a prolonged flare. Sometimes I have a much higher baseline for walking, but can have a one off day where I haven’t slept well and doing significant walking will put me into PEM. I’m trying to figure out which option is better for conserving energy and preventing crashes while still allowing me to be present for outings with my family. submitted by /u/themunchkinland to r/cfs [link] [comments]

Is it worth buying a used mobility scooter?
I’m looking to buy my grandma a mobility scooter so she can get out more easily and keep her independence. She’s 82 and her old one is getting unreliable, so we want something safer and more comfortable for her. I’ve seen some decent deals on new ones from Top Gun Mobility, but I’m also tempted by cheaper used options to save some money. Has anyone here bought a used mobility scooter? What were the pros and cons? Any major issues that popped up later? Would really appreciate any real experiences before I make the decision. submitted by /u/veditafri to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

4 wheel mobility scooters with larger turn radius
My elderly relative can’t walk more than a few steps with his walker due to a longstanding disability with his leg after an industrial accident. He lost his license last year but we really want him to be able to do his favourite activity - grocery shopping at nearby stores. They brought two 4 wheel scooters for him to test - the pride victory and the pride pursuit ES 4 if I recall. The victory was great but while he’s not large, he has longer legs and it just seemed too small for him and the tiller didn’t go high enough. He said it wasn’t truly comfortable for him without extending his legs. The Pride pursuit ES on the other hand was much better. He fit his legs better and with the larger pneumatic tires it seemed more comfortable as well. It also had significantly better range so we wouldn’t have to worry as much about him going to some of the further stores and the way there on sidewalks would obviously be a bit more comfortable. Our concern is the size and turning radius. While the pursuit ES 4 seems about the same size as a shopping cart, I’m wondering how easily it can get in to and navigate grocery stores? The victory has 53” turning radius while the pursuit is 65”. He had no issues performing 3-4 point turns outdoor but how easy is it actually using something of this size in a store? None of the stores he goes to are ‘big box’ but just regular grocery stores. Some have larger aisles and some are older with smaller ones. Getting into the stores is also a question as some of them have exits though a 90° vestibule. Also wondering about navigating busy stores full of people. Of course he can leave it outside and walk short distances with a shopping cart in the store, there’s a risk for him there and the whole point was to allow him to get to and shop indoors. We have a limited amount of time to decide between the two and would love to hear some real world advice/experience using one of the slightly larger 4 wheel scooters given this is our first experience with one. Is this a good scooter for the elderly?
My grandma uses a wheelchair and doesn’t get out much, and she doesn’t like being pushed around because she wants to do things on her own. I love riding my 2 wheel scooter around the city, and it got me thinking that maybe a 3 or 4 wheel one could help her get out more. Now I’m looking at mobility scooters and came across this Paiseec L5 scooter. It looks pretty sleek and easy to use. Has anyone here used their products before? Also any other recommendations? submitted by /u/honestmemory30 to r/ElectricScooters [link] [comments]

Has anyone used things like electric scooters for mobility?
Hello! I was wondering if anyone has used a scooter like this or similar in place of a wheelchair? I have severe Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS) that's steadily worsening; but my OT and family are against me getting a wheelchair to sustain energy (because they sadly have the view that once you get a wheelchair, you're confined to it). So, I was wanting to know if anyone's used motorized scooters instead and whether it was a sustainable option? Or is it better to just go against my family's wishes and attempt to get a chair self-funded? Sorry if this isn't the place to post this, but thank you for any advice! submitted by /u/R0tt0nJawz to r/disability [link] [comments]

Which scooter should I get
I’ve been dealing with MS for a long time. Although getting around hasn’t been easy, I still want to move more freely on my own, so I’m considering a scooter. Stability and comfort are really important to me, and I’d like something with a good range as well. I looked into a few brands, but I’m not sure which one is the best. My budget is around $1,000. Hello, I just turned 61 and have arthritis. My knees are bone on bone. I have lost over 175 pounds in the past 5 years. I ride an EBike and would love to walk or run. However, my knees just don’t hold up anymore. Been using a cane off and on for years but they hurt my wrists. I tried an upright rollator but in the end my knees pain was bad. Now I am waiting on delivery of a scooter and the thought of using it is on my mind. I don’t know why I use them at stores and theme parks. Explained in detail why my 11 yr old was in the mobility scooter
My daughter, 11, had severe scoliosis that was causing other health problems and progressing rapidly. She needed a spinal fusion that covered the majority of her spine and resulted in an incision from the base of her neck to the top of her pelvis. It was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life, but the surgery went extremely well and my daughter was so brave and strong. About a week and a half post op, she was starting to get stir-crazy and we needed to restock so I took her with me on a short trip to Target. It's important to walk around, but she couldn't make it far at this point, so I put her in the mobility scooter the store provides and taught her how to drive it. I walked alongside her at first because she was feeling a little self-conscious. We grabbed a few necessities while she got more comfortable and when we got to the grocery section, I told her to go grab whatever snacks she'd like and call me if she needed me to reach something. After a few minutes, I met her in a side aisle to transfer her goodies to my bigger cart so I could send her, her older sister, and her younger autistic brother to the toy aisle to pick something out for a treat. All three were excitedly chattering about what they might get as I started the transfer, and I notice an older lady standing behind us. I smiled and apologized, pulled my son closer to the cart as he tends to bounce around, saying sorry ma'am, this will take me a minute. I expected her to walk around like a normal person, but she continued standing there and I saw my daughter go quiet. I finished the transfer and told my kids to go ahead while I finish up. This is when Karen made her move. She strides quickly alongside me, blocking the scooter with her cart. "Those aren't toys. Those are for people who need them." I saw red, I don't think I've ever been more angry in my life. I said in a loud voice that she had a spinal fusion, was that a good enough reason? I reached toward my daughter shouting here honey, let's show her the incision!! At this point, Karen goes beet red, says ok then and is practically running down the aisle. I yelled BYE KAREN and turned around to check on my kid. To my relief, she was vibrating with laughter. She said Mom, I think the whole store heard you. We got our stuff and went home. She healed up great and if you didn't see the scar, you'd never know. But PSA, if someone forgets their manners, make a scene and get them the attention they deserve. Picture of the scar a year later for reference of size and severity of the procedure. submitted by /u/Irocroo to r/traumatizeThemBack [link] [comments]

AITA for telling my friend she either uses the mobility scooter at the mall or stay home?
A little context, said friend weights 350 pounds. The only reason I know this is because we did that bmi thing on tiktok. Anyways whenever we’ll go to the mall. she’ll continuously make us stop because she’s out of breath and needs to sit. It’s really annoying because it takes the time we have shop. An not only does she make us sit, but whines about how tried she is while we’re walking. It’s gotten to the point my group of friends and I have been, debating whether or not we should even invite her at all. So I was like you know what would fix this, why doesn’t she just use those mobility scooters. First, she wouldn’t be as tired and out of breath and second, it would fix are time issue. So my friends and I face timed her and basically told her about our idea and asked if she was down with it. She almost busted a tit over this and went on to ask us if we were saying this to call her fat. I said no, and that we were asking because we can’t deal with her constant having to stop. An basically how I didn’t get why she was so offended when we were just trying to help. She called us awful people, and started saying how she couldn’t control it because of her weight and we just needed to deal with it. I went on to say she was being selfish and, asked how was it fair to us we waste all of our time because she makes bad food choices. An said it was either she used the scooter or she could stay home. She went on to cuss me out and hung up. All my friends think I was being nicer than they would’ve been and they’re completely on my side. My mom thinks I was a little harsh but she said she said she’d probably would’ve also done the same thing. It got me thinking if I was the actual asshole here. So AITA? submitted by /u/ilikelongpubes to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

I’m probably going to get back lash for this I don’t mind waiting for anyone that has an honest medical need for a scooter or wheelchair, and I don’t know other people’s stories; however too many people are getting scooters just to be lazy and not walk and the problem seems to get worse every year. At every bus stop it’s an extra 15 minutes while they get to cut to the front and I end up waiting for a second bus because they took up five seats.. If you don’t have a placard you should be able to still go through the park if you choose to but you do not get any special accommodations and can’t go on busses with the scooters. I don’t think Disney could do anything at this point as it would be tons of backlash from certain groups of people it isn’t worth it and they’d lose a small revenue stream. edit: I have family myself that does have mobility issue and can only walk short distances they are mostly in a wheelchair and from a distance it might not be obvious what the issue is however we try not to ask for extra assistance until it is needed while I see people far more capable get all the entitlement like cutting in front of the line. submitted by /u/brandtaylor93 to r/WaltDisneyWorld [link] [comments]
