AITJ for making my roommate pay me back immediately after he used my tuition money?
I live with two other guys near campus. We all split groceries and utilities pretty casually and usually just send each other money later without issues. Last month my parents sent me part of my tuition money early and I kept it in my savings account because payment for the semester wasn’t due yet. I mentioned this one night while we were all talking about classes and financial aid. A week later I tried paying my tuition online and my card declined. I checked my account and almost $900 was gone. I genuinely thought my bank got hacked until my roommate admitted he transferred the money to himself using my laptop because I had left my banking app logged in. He said he was desperate because his car got impounded and he needed it back before work. The part that shocked me was he acted like this was some normal temporary loan between roommates. He kept saying stuff like “relax, I was gonna return it after my next paycheck.” I completely lost it and told him I wanted every dollar back by the end of the week or I’d report it. He managed to borrow money from his brother and paid me back, but now the apartment is insanely awkward. My other roommate says I escalated things too fast and should’ve handled it privately instead of threatening police over “roommate drama.” But to me this wasn’t borrowing. He literally logged into my account and took money without asking. so aitj? submitted by /u/NoRelationship9815 to r/AmITheJerk [link] [comments]

AITA If I refuse to give my Mom money every month?
My mom wants all three of us, M, F, F, in our 30s to give her $300 a month each. She said this is for her retirement and that this is our duty. I would be fine with this if she had no income but she has multiple properties she rents out that earns more than we do every month. All three of us don’t live at home and have children to take care of. My sisters are both stay at home moms. Their husbands will be the ones to pay this. Here is some of our conversation: I asked if she gives her parents money every month and she said no but she has given money to them before. I told her we are all raising kids, paying rent, the economy is terrible. Her response was $300 is not much. The average worker here earns $1000 a month. I told her I would never tax my kids like this while they’re trying to build their lives. Her response is that it’s our duty as her children. To try and be non biased she did spend a lot of money sending us to private school. In return I do have a decent job earning higher than the average. I feel like this is just pure greed. Would I be the asshole for refusing? EDIT We are Asians so it’s expected of us. The problem for me is we each have 2 parents plus 2 in laws and she’s the only one asking for it. Our father isn’t asking for anything but he does have retirement. My mom does not. I couldn’t imagine if I had to send $300 each to 4 parents. submitted by /u/BuntonioBunderas to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

Nothing but a waste of money
Cannot believe this is still happening. 9:15pm, just outside the Union Station Metro Station. Edit: for the many who want to be offended because you feel I am calling these people a waste of money, get a serious grip. It’s not the NGs that are the issue, it’s that they are being used by people who could give less than two 💩 about them. This entire administration has cried about ‘fraud, waste and abuse’ in government but yet, is more than willing to spend hundred of $1,000,000s for this ‘show’ of force. Is there FWA? Yep, nothing at this scale can avoid it but instead of trying to address it effectively, more and more is just piled on top. submitted by /u/kilrein to r/washingtondc [link] [comments]

Need money urgently
I’m a newly single mother now to a 7 month old and I’m expecting another in August. I need to make more money a month than what I’m making now. Currently I work 90-110 hours a pay period (two weeks) and it’s still not enough. This job is also extremely physically demanding. ATP I’m willing to do anything. I do not have a partner to split the financial burden anymore. I am on my own. I don’t want to resort to things that call my morals into question but idk what else to do. I’ve researched so many methods but a lot of them I can’t do while pregnant. I cant donate plasma, I can’t harvest my eggs. Selling my things will only get me at most 200-300 extra dollars that’s how little worth they have. What can I do. submitted by /u/BeneficialSeries1601 to r/povertyfinance [link] [comments]

I’m being gifted a lot of money. Should I tell my boyfriend?
I (F,22) have been dating my boyfriend (M,22) since high school (4/5 years) and we have a very strong relationship, I love him very much. We have been living in his mom’s basement suite paying $500 each a month until we can save up to buy an apartment somewhere. Personally I have enough saved to put up my half of a down payment but that’s only because I am privileged enough to not have student debt which is not the same scenario for him. He is very adamant that he won’t accept help from anyone and he wants us to be able to move out on our own. My step mom is very wealthy and invested some money that grew so she has decided to gift me and my siblings 55k each. As a young woman with no experience handling money in life or in a relationship I really don’t know what I should do here. I don’t want to create something weird in the sense that I have money and he doesn’t but we also aren’t married so i don’t know if it’s his business or if I should just put it away in savings and pretend it doesn’t exist anymore. Tips for women to actually get money - from a guy who actually has money
It seems like the majority or posts on here are from what [claim to be] young women needing financial help, and most seem incredibly desperate. As a guy who might actually help someone, here are some tips for actually having success [if you're actually a woman, since scammers are going to keep failing with their terrible scams]. Don't hide your posts. If I see a woman with hidden posts, I assume she's a scam/trying to sell porn and wants it hidden, so I immediately write them off. Don't sell content/porn/customs/whatever you want to call it. There is more free porn online than I could ever watch. The existence of women who make a bunch of money doing porn ("content") doesn't mean you're going to. In an attempt to make a couple easy bucks, you're going to turn off anyone seriously interested in helping you. It's stepping over dollars to chase pennies. Feet pictures aren't going to help you any more than trying to sell regular porn. It's just porn but in a weird way. You will need to verify who you are. This mainly applies to scammers, who can't verify for some reason (their phone is broken or their app is messed up or whatever excuse) but if you claim to be a woman online, I'm going to assume you're a lying man unless you prove me wrong. And given how good AI is getting, a picture isn't going to cut it, since that can be easily faked. Have a real conversation. I'm not going to send you money because you give me a sad story. The existence of scammers doesn't mean I'm going to send you money for no reason to prove I'm real. I'm not going to send you money out of pity or obligation or whatever else. If you want money, earn it - don't demand or beg. Fix your life and become successful. Most people online want money for nothing. Or from get-rich-quick schemes like porn or begging. But that won't fix your life. It might help you a bit today, but you'll be back in the same place tomorrow or the day after. If you want help, have a plan for actually fixing your life, and get someone to help. Yes, there are tons of scammers (on both sides) but if you write off 100% of people or try to game 100% of people, you're going to miss out on the one opportunity to have success. Most people won't read or care - they'll just keep trying to sell their porn - but if you actually read this and want help fixing your life, you can message me and tell me about yourself. submitted by /u/just_an_anonymous_k to r/EarnExtraIncome [link] [comments]

Do people with a lot of money ever stress about money?
It’s a serious question. My income is not a lot. Around $2,200 per month. I never stress too much because I’m able to pay my bills and have maybe like $50-$100 left each month. But sometimes I worry if I’m going to make it. I’m wondering about the people who make like $150k-$300k per year. Do you stress about money? And what do you stress about? Thank you for sharing. submitted by /u/No_Republic_1712 to r/Money [link] [comments]

How are so many people making so much money?
Im on a lot of career advice spaces here on reddit, trying to figure out my career change and manage my finance while I go back to school. In those spaces i see so many people claiming 100k + income. Sometimes i see 200k, 300k from people doing odd jobs, often not even jobs that require long education (healthcare, law) and it just blows my mind. How are people making that much money?? If i were looking at medical science people id get it, but 100K plus sounded common, esp in tech? Sales, and project management. Wtf? Is it an American thing that some people just get lucky and roll on gold?? Im Canadian and ive never heard of such « easy » wealth. Mind you, Im a clever enough person and I have the opportunity to study whatever i want, so I went towards environmental sciences. I will be happy I make 45k when I graduate, and satisfied if I reach 75k after 5 years. I dont think money is everything but these people make me feel bad about myself. submitted by /u/amuddyriver to r/careerguidance [link] [comments]

What weird ways do y’all make money?
Hi everyone, obviously I’m not looking for anything that is too good to be true or too much of a long con. I use Craigslist a lot to find gigs and overall I’ve enjoyed it. I don’t get as bored, I usually get paid more, and if I hate anyone there I’m gone by the end of the week. Plus, I am not fully able to hold down a full time hob, could possibly do a part time job but 20 hours a week is absolutely my cap. What are y’all doing to make ends meet outside of a full time job? Are there any better ways to find random gig work? For context I am most experienced with videography/video production, but down for most gigs that don’t involve lots of physical labor. Open to any advice, thanks! submitted by /u/bigdope-smallgirl to r/povertyfinance [link] [comments]
