I’m so sorry for your loss. Totally understandable that your feelings are all over the place. You do count, you’ve carried a child inside of you, even for a short time. How you commemorate or mark Mothers Day is completely up to you going forward, whatever you’re feeling is a valid expression of your grief.

Eating in the bedroom with our baby, I don't have a mom who wanted to be a mother so today is pretty hard for me anyways. He did as I asked but spent the entire time yelling at me and telling me how grateful for him I should be. Now we can't leave to go to his parents house because he wants to smoke and I won't let him before we drive. FML. Been pretty miserable lately. Just feeling really disconnected in my marriage. Grateful for my sweet daughter who makes me feel special. Dinner is random things I found in fridge and pantry. My husband loves big TVs. I don't really care. We have a 50 inch that is older but works well enough for me. We're sitting on the couch and my kids wants to blast something from his phone to the TV, and it's not working. So I say, "meh we probably need a new TV", and my husband says, "we could get one this weekend, that could be your Mother's Day gift!" So I push back. "Don't disguise a gift for yourself as a Mother's Day gift, dude. That's fucked up". And he just starts fighting back, saying g he already got me something, this was in addition, and that I'm acting like an asshole. It escalated to him saying I'm a "hysterical woman", and I put words in his mouth, and that he won't let me walk all over him. He's a great man. But lordie he can never be wrong. A simple, "yeah, you're right. We could get a TV, but it's not a Mother's Day gift" would have been the right move here, but he needed to win the argument and have the last word. My husband (33M) and I (28F) have an 8-year-old son together. Through him, we became friends with another family who has two daughters, ages 8 and 5. We’ve all been friends for about three years now, and during that time we’ve regularly babysat each other’s kids whenever someone wanted a date night or just needed a break. It’s been a normal thing for all of us. A few days ago, the husband texted my husband asking if we could watch their girls Saturday evening because he wanted to surprise his wife with concert tickets for Mother’s Day weekend. He said the concert would run late and they might not get back until around 2–3 AM. My husband initially told him “probably” and said he’d check with me first. He then called me and casually asked what we were doing Saturday. I said “nothing,” and apparently he took that as a green light to immediately tell our friend yes. Then he called me back and explained the full situation. After hearing everything, I said, “Watching additional children during Mother’s Day weekend is not exactly how I pictured spending my time.” My husband immediately got annoyed and said, “It’s not like you had anything planned. Besides, you were going to be around kids anyway.” (He said this because we were already taking our son to a birthday party earlier that day.) He then doubled down and said Mother’s Day is technically Sunday anyway, so it shouldn’t matter that much, and “it’s just a day.” That really hurt me because I do basically everything in our house: cooking, cleaning, most of the parenting for our son and our dog while also working full time. Mother’s Day is literally the ONE day where I hope for even a little appreciation. I don’t even usually get anything for Christmas or my birthday, and I’ve never made a huge deal about that, but this really pushed me over the edge. What makes it worse is that whenever “we” babysit, it mostly falls on me. I’m the one entertaining the kids, making food, solving arguments, organizing games, etc. Meanwhile my husband usually disappears into the media room, shuts the door, and plays video games because he “doesn’t know how to help.” Also, my son has ADHD and their older daughter has ADHD, and the last time we watched them they were bouncing off the walls until after 1 AM. I had a headache the entire next day. My son finally went to bed around 1, while their daughter was literally doing somersaults on our couch. So I told my husband I didn’t want to babysit, especially not that late into the night. He responded by saying he’d already told our friend yes and that the concert tickets had already been purchased. At that point I told him fine BUT when the girls get dropped off, I’ll be leaving. I said I’d go see a movie and find other things to do because if HE agreed to babysit without actually discussing it with me first, then HE could handle all the kids himself. He called me childish, unreasonable, said I was “throwing a tantrum,” and told me I needed to “help him” watch the kids. Mother has been super excited about my birthday because she's buying 'us' steaks, been non stop about how she's looking foward to it. Moment I get up this morning, I get the most brief happy birthday, then she proceeded to tell me all about that she was getting herself a steak tonight because she 'birthed me and she deserves it'. All so she could say the steak (+ hers) was coming out of my birthday money. I'm 24 now, and literally wasn't expecting anything in the first place, but somehow that automatically just made everything feel worse rather than if there was just nothing at all My dad got diagnosed and died from cancer within just three, agonizing months last year, and these past few weeks leading up to today have been extremely difficult. Gf had just convinced me last night to be a bit happy about it, and from literally first thing in the morning I feel like I'm just watching today be my mother's 'birthday'. I don’t expect my Husband to remember Mother’s Day because it’s just not his thing. So on Wednesday, I told him I was going purse shopping for my Mother’s Day gift. I feel terrible saying this, but I hate Mother’s Day! My husband and toddler give me a great Mother’s Day every year and I love them both so so much! But every year my MIL wants us to make a big deal about her and basically act like it’s her day and I’m just there to please her. We always spend actual Mother’s Day with her and the day before what I want (my choice). And I don’t speak to my mother. My birthday is the week before too, so I don’t want to be annoying and feel like I need to be celebrated twice in such a short amount of time.
