In The Dark Knight (2008), the Joker rigs two ferries with explosives one carrying civilians and the other criminals. The passengers on both boats ultimately refuse to blow the other up. This is a subtle nod to the fact that you're watching a movie based on comic books.

What is a movie that "broke" you so hard you can only watch it once, but you would still recommend it to everyone?
We’ve all had that experience. You finish a movie, the credits roll, and you just sit there in silence for ten minutes staring at the wall. You know you just watched a literal masterpiece, so just spit out the name palllllll. For me, it’s about that emotional hangover. You feel different after the movie ends like your perspective on humanity or history has shifted slightly. I recently had this feeling after finally sitting down to watch Schindler's List. I knew it would be heavy, but I wasn't prepared for how much it would drain me. It’s a 10/10, but I don't think I can ever press play on it again. I’ve also been diving into Nuremberg, and it’s the same feeling. Seeing the raw reality of justice and the darkness humans are capable of is fascinating but mentally taxing. It makes you realize that cinema isn't just for entertainment; sometimes it's a necessary, painful mirror. submitted by /u/Newsupdate69 to r/movies [link] [comments]

What's a movie you recommend to everyone but nobody ever watches?
You know that movie you've been telling people to watch for years and they always say "yeah I'll check it out" and never do? You've described it, you've hyped it up, you've practically begged and still nothing. At some point you start to feel like a broken record but you keep recommending it anyway because it deserves better. What's that movie for you? submitted by /u/trakt_app to r/movies [link] [comments]

Please recommend me a movie to watch tonight!(:
Here’s is my top 20. My favorite kinds of movies are movies like The Befoe Trilogy, Sentimental Value/TWPITW, and Sing Sing. I love movies that are about real everyday struggles. Recently I watched The Thing and liked it then watched Alien(1979) and really didn’t like it. I watched Licorice Pizza last night and loved it even though the age thing is wierd. I was thinking about another PTa film like Phantom Thread but wanted to come on here for ideas. Thank you! submitted by /u/Busyhead-Foreverago to r/Letterboxd [link] [comments]

I want to watch something that isn’t flashy and not a fucking formulaic repetition of something that’s already been done better. Just give me recommendations of good films. I would watch a whole movie of just this naval battle; bridge officers in tactical maneuvers, weapons operators, engineers trying to savage dying ships, dogfights - It would be like a battle of the Pacific meets Battle of Britain meets Battle of Trafalgar.

What movie to watch on New Year Eve, alone, after ending 12yr relationship?
Hi all, left my girlfriend/fiancee few days ago, after more or less 12 years being together. I plan to make a big bowl of spagetti and watch a movie. I don't want to go out since everyone will ask why I am alone, and I cannot explain to everyone now. I am very sad but hopeful for the future, so hit me with some meaningful suggestions. Thanks! submitted by /u/dont_dive_vtori to r/movies [link] [comments]

I stay up late at night to watch movies specifically so nobody joins me.
Let me preface this with, I love my wife, I love my daughter. However, I do not love watching a movie with them. Movies should be watched in the dark, with a big bowl of popcorn, and minimal to 0 talking. My wife INSISTES on having the lights on full blast, not even dimmed, but bright as noon. Then she enjoys chatting, and then asking 15 minutes later what's going on in the movie. Or when I'm doing my annual Vincent Price marathon in October, call them stupid old movies. The biggest cardinal sin are the distractions, "hey can you get me some milk?" "run to the kitchen and get me a snack" etc. When i watch a movie that's what I'm doing, I'm watching a movie. No phones, no laptops, no tablets. All the while paying attention to the movie and not 15 other things. So if there's a movie I want to see and I know she won't be interested I wait for her to go to bed then make some popcorn and watch a good movie, by myself with no distractions. After I type this and hit post I'm making some popcorn and watching the new Knives Out movie. I'll see your replies in a couple hours. submitted by /u/OkSeaworthiness2955 to r/confession [link] [comments]

Tell me some good movies to watch
What are the best movies that are streaming right now (without having to pay for more than subscription)? Lots of new adds are tv series, but my passion is film. I’ve seen a lot, but too many to mention so will just ask for suggestions. My favorite styles are action-packed, suspenseful, thriller, martial arts, and period films. But basically I like anything with a good story and good acting. Again, I’ve seen lots of movies but always open to new suggestions. I have all of the major streaming services btw. submitted by /u/AggressiveHelp2033 to r/Cinema [link] [comments]
