Dow Jones & NASDAQ Composite close in -10% correction territory
To be precise, the Dow is ~10.6% off its record of ~50.5k; the NASDAQ Composite is ~12.8% off its record of ~24k; and the S&P 500 is ~9.1% off its record of ~7k. Due to the outsized annual returns of the last 3 years, I came into 2026 thinking the odds of a pullback or negative year were higher than normal. However, I wasn’t confident enough to short sell the market, and I left my long-term retirement holdings unchanged. So I feel your pain. Long before the Middle East conflict, I noticed something rotten had been brewing in the markets for a long time. It started around last October, when the S&P 500 began to flatline near the 7,000 milestone but was unable to break through it. Under the seemingly calm surface was what’s known as a rolling bear market, in which entire industries or categories of stocks began selling off, one at a time, often far in excess of the 20% bear market threshold. Because that money was looking for new homes, investors kept rotating into other industries, keeping the index levels stable. When the last remaining dams finally burst, all that money suddenly came flooding out of the markets, leading to the current correction. Software / SAAS / Cloud: topped out around July 2025; currently down 30-50% Bitcoin / virtual currencies / fintech: topped out in Oct 2025, currently down ~40% Big Tech / Magnificent 7: topped out in Oct 2025, currently down ~20% Big banks (JPM, AmEx etc): topped out in Dec 2025; currently down 20-30% Gold / Silver / precious metals / miners: topped out in Jan 2026, currently down ~20-40% (Iran war broke out on 28th February; the NASDAQ was already 5-6% off highs then) The latest bubble to pop is memory/RAM, with Micron, Sandisk etc. down 20-25% from their pre-earnings run-ups. Given the magnitude of these declines, the rest of the market that’s not AI-adjacent is actually holding up extremely well. submitted by /u/MarkusEF to r/wallstreetbets [link] [comments]

S&P and NASDAQ have erased 7 months of gains in 3 weeks.. so why buy and hold?
The S&P and NASDAQ have erased 7 months of gains in 3 weeks.. so why buy and hold? I don't get the idea at all. I was up a lot on two positions in PLTR and APP that got wiped out in about 2 months to start the year. I still made a very good amount of money on it, but LOST nearly 3x the amount I could have made instead of just , "holding and relying on fundamentals". I guess the point of this thread is to just emphasize the idea of just putting money into the S&P or whatever DEPENDING ON WHEN YOU START, is just not right. With algorithms and trades working the way they do, so many traders are just unwinding trades a lot quicker than the long term holders. FYI: I've beaten the market the last 3 years significantly, but this year by NOT selling APP and PLTR am down about 28% YTD. submitted by /u/RedditFan3510 to r/stocks [link] [comments]

Why is NDX100 so demonised here? It is often claimed that it is not worth to invest in certain sectors or one country or both. However, nasdaq 100 is not only not focused on one sector, it contains international stocks aswell. Additionally it has 101 components which also should be considered as sufficient diversicifaciton. submitted by /u/Smally02929282727 to r/Bogleheads [link] [comments]

Are we not all just betting the Nasdaq will continue to keep growing in the next decades?
Hi all, Huge fan of all kinds of creative strategies everyone is posting here. Some are truly remarkable and get insane returns in backtests. But no matter how good or bad/overfitted a strategy is, in the end it all comes down to whether the nasdaq continues to behave as it did in the last years/decades, right? There is no way to test a strategy for a Nikkei scenario where the index stays flat for decades. And I honestly think it is highly difficult to make a leveraged strategy for an index that stays flat for decades. Curious to hear what other people think. And also if there are reasons to believe why the nasdaq will/wont enter a decade long flat period. Have fun out there all! submitted by /u/heldjorid to r/TQQQ [link] [comments]

100% NASDAQ: Convince me I'm wrong.
https://preview.redd.it/3gubztqguhhg1.png?width=995&format=png&auto=webp&s=fc1ea0da966d46f09260c7b72f16a6faab78c13b TARGET: I'm 36yo, starting investing for the first time now. I will invest $1,500/month, plus I have $50k in savings that I'm planning to invest in the next 3 years (1/36th per month). My goal is to hit $1million in 12-15 years. I've been researching for the last month and I concluded it's worth risking it all with Nasdaq. ANALYSIS: The image above represents a Backtest starting right before the housing bubble. It's a $50k one-off investment + $1,500 monthly for 10 years. The housing bubble hit the US (and therefore the entire world proportionally) with a 40% loss in the worst period, but when the world recovered, Nasdaq performed +66% in 10 years vs MSCI world. In 15 years, it's +127%. I also did a dot-com bubble test, same values, from Jan-1998 to Dec-2012. In 15years, the return is 25% higher. HYPOTESIS: I should go 100% in a Nasdaq ETF because: Assuming that the AI bubble explodes and/or the US will fall, it could easily take 5-10 years to fully recover. In that case, the entire world will be affected, so we will all have to wait for the entire world to recover - since the US is the biggest economic power worldwide, the world will recover only when the US will recover. We well all need to wait before cashing out. Maybe 10, 15 or 20 years before seeing substantial CAGR to justifying the exit. And with a NASDAQ ETF, the long-term returns will be MUCH higher whan any other World/mixed portfolio. CONCLUSIONS: Ultimately, unless the US technology sector fails forever, for a 15 years investment plan it's worth going all-in with Nasdaq. Please prove me wrong. submitted by /u/Far-Actuary5154 to r/ETFs [link] [comments]

Biggest one-day gain for the NASDAQ since 10/13/2008 - but don't forget what happened 2 days later in 2008
Puts will print bigly. I am convinced there was a lot of overbuying because of misinterpretation and misreporting around the tariff pause, I expect flat trading tomorrow and huge drop on Friday. We have tariffs against China, Europe, and Canada still. There is still 10% baseline tariffs on every country (this was misreported/corrected).
