To further the discussion of what is the all around “BEST TRAVEL SHOE (closed toe)” here is something to add and discuss: When I was traveling in Brazil in March, I met soooo many European travelers. Most of them were wearing Salomon “trail runners” I believe they were. Here is a link to the Salomon shoe I think the women were wearing. The men were mostly wearing it in Black. I did a lot of hiking in Brazil in my worn out Asics and wish I had a shoe with more tread. I 've been thinking about getting the Salomons but they really do scream "outdoors" and I don't know if they would be "cute" enough to do light walking in say, London or Paris or Rome... Are these SALOMONS really the all around best shoe for walking, trekking, etc in any type of climate? I know HOKAs (especially Speedgoat 6) are discussed often. I ended up giving in and buying a pair last Spring but I notice that the nubs / grip / lugs wear down pretty fast. (They are indeed very very comfortable, but also the colorways are intense and make me definitely stand out as a gringa. haha. ) I think the Salomons might be more durable? This time I went for the New Balance 1906R in the all black colorway, and honestly, they completely exceeded my expectations. At first I wasn’t sure if the pair would feel too plain or “just another all-black sneaker,” but having them in hand totally changed my mind. The materials feel solid, the shape is on point, and the overall build quality is surprisingly good. They came well packaged too, nothing in the box was damaged, which is impressive considering the shipping process. Comfort-wise they’re great right out of the box, and they are TTS. She asked me about it after my daughter left with her boyfriend and I told her that I wanted to celebrate her accomplishments in her running career so I got her a new switch as a gift. She started yelling about how it was my job as the man to provide for her and her kids, when I make so much more than her and they have no father figure. A good friend of mine owns an athletic shoe store downtown so I went there. Got a discount because she goes to the local high school and because she’s on the team.. also because he’s my friend. I’m eternally grateful for him, he’s done me real good. On the topic of shoes, many people have asked me why I have gotten my daughter track shoes now even though it’s cross country season. The answer to that is also really simple, I won’t be here. I leave for a work trip when her season starts so in my mind, it made sense for me to buy her all the gear she needs now while I’m still here. Though I suppose it doesn’t matter much now because her season is quite literally about to end, and then indoor track season starts shortly after. Ex’s daughter is also fine, I offered to get her into therapy too but she said she’d handle it on her own time so I figured I’d just let her handle it on her own. She’s an adult and I now recognize that she’s capable of being responsible with her mental health, and recognizing when she needs to get help. Both girls know they can come to me whenever, wherever, for whatever. I did get security cameras installed and nothing has happened, it’s been peaceful. Also to answer another common question, yes I became a parent at 16. It was not my choice but I’m glad something good came out of that situation. I work in a chemical plant and I’ve been working there since I was 19. I got extremely lucky with this job because, truth be told, I didn’t even go to college. It’s warm, it fits great, amazing everyday piece and easy to style. As far as I know it isn’t the most accurate (the cables are supposed to be placed differently) but for the price you just can’t go wrong with it. My first pair was NB 2002r Protection Pack and it totally changed my view on this brand and decided to grab more. My eyes were caught by the JJJJound collab with NB, and I far more liked the 990 model rather than 992, it took a while to find it but I succeeded. I’ve QCed this pair on my own and the only difference I saw was that some of the panels are slightly smaller/bigger or placed differently throughout the shoe but since NB are so lowkey I doubt anyone would see the difference between reps and retail. The green suede has a lot of movement and feels very nice in hand. The knit cream laces look totally amazing and compliment the shoe very good but they’re very fragile. It has 3m reflective material on toebox, on the back of the shoe and what surprised me the most on the N logo on the sides of the shoes - it’s black plastic/rubber material that has some 3m particles in it and it reflects light when on right angle - it looks very epic. I’ve taken my usual shoe size and I have a little bit of extra space in them but I think it’s due to the knit laces. The unfinished look on them, the floppy panels and hanging laces from Nlock system on the sides gives the silhouette a bit of aggression that I like to see on shoes. I compared them with pics from official NB website and the only flaw I saw was the yellowing on the sides of the midsole that should be more of a cream, fading color rather than this deep yellow. I took acetone and wiped it down a little bit, it still isn’t the right cream color but looks much better than when they arrived (on pics they are already after acetone). They fit TTS but aren’t as comfortable as the above 990 or my previous 2002r (it may change after few wears though). I am addicted to new balance shoes. Been on a hunt to find the best reps for my favorite models. So in this haul, I got the 530s and the 9060s both in grey/white. I really like them, they are such high quality. Especially the comfort part! I have the retail 530s and these reps are basically the exact same. I couldn’t find a difference. They’re just as comfortable too and have the same sizing. The seller Anonymous definitely has a good reputation on reps here and my experience definitely supports that. He’s very quickly with replying to all questions and requests. He’s very mindful of what he’s selling to you. The original 9060s I wanted kept coming to him with defects and he was very transparent with it and showed me photos. So I had to go with a different color to get the size I wanted. Hello there, This might be a bias question to ask on this subreddit but it is mainly for those that also collect other brand of sneakers. I am asking this question because I always feel like venturing into Nikes/Adidas but for the same price point, it feels like I can get a more comfortable pair of New Balances with better quality. In your honest opinion, is New Balance truly top quality and one of the most comfortable shoes you own? Or is it solely a “trend” or a narrative that most people subscribe to? This could range from the made in series to the made in Asia models. I remember seeing a video that it is not necessarily better quality with the higher price point but because it is because of the higher labour cost in the US/UK. Would love to hear your thoughts.
