Last month I wrote about the 1970s, when the running boom started and when I got started running. Here is the next installment. The overview portions are probably at the 20,000 to 30,000 foot level, but it's how I remember things. The personal journey part may be TMI, especially from someone who was not all that accomplished, but maybe there are some grains of insight in there that might be interesting to some. The 1980s The Boom was Still Growing The 1980s running scene came in with a roar and all the momentum from the 1970s, but if you were an American fan of the sport the decade ended a little more quietly. Nevertheless, by the late 1980s running was firmly rooted into American culture. No matter where you were, it wasn’t that weird to be running and training for a race. Road races continued to grow and prosper in the 1980s and running itself became a bigger business. Running also lost its innocence in the 1980s, not always in great ways but also in good ways. Starting with Boston in 1980, there were about 3,600 official finishers but only 237 women. The qualifying times were 2:50 for men and 3:20 for women. It was Bill Rodgers’ final victory there, and he ran 2:12. The median finishing time for men was 3:01 and 45% of the men broke 3 hours. The fields at major road races back then were young, male dominated, and fast. However, the biggest story of that year was the imposter finish of Rosie Ruiz. She snuck onto the course late in the race and crossed the line in just under 2:32, more than two and a half minutes ahead of Jaqueline Gareau of Canada. Ruiz was awarded the winner’s medal and laurel wreath on the spot. However, many people who knew marathoning believed she was a fake who had cheated. The events of the following week superseded the sport, with much speculation and consternation in the news. The was front page on all the newspapers and the lead story on TV. She was stripped of her title the following week and the BAA awarded it to Gareau. Meanwhile, the previous year the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan. They were set to host the 1980 Games in Moscow. President Jimmy Carter opposed this invasion and led a boycott of nations from the Olympics. At least from a US track star perspective the boycott was devastating. A number of US top athletes had legitimate shots at medals, including miler Steve Scott, middle distance runner Mary Decker who had really come into her own in 1980, 10000 m runner Craig Virgin—who had won World Cross Country in March—and even Rodgers. Scott, Decker, and Virgin would all run in later Olympics but they were at the top of their game in 1980. At least as far as exposure and inspiration were concerned that was a huge lost opportunity for the athletes, as well as the sport. Running as Professionals A more positive change, or at least for most people involved, was the arrival of professional running. During the 1960s and through the 1970s the system was often called “shamateurism.” For international competition the organizers and administrators pocketed a lot of money and the athletes would only have a small stipend and they would be housed in sub-standard hotels while those in charge traveled in luxury. At some point top athletes did get paid under the table but if they took money professionally, they would be banned for life and those who competed against a banned athlete would also be banned. By 1980 it was an open secret that athletes were getting paid substantial appearance and performance fees and the governing bodies looked away—probably because they also would be on the take from organizers. That system all changed in the spring of 1981, when the Cascade Runoff a Nike sponsored 15K road race in Portland, offered a $100,000 in prize money, $10,000 for the first place male and female runners. Dozens of elite runners signed up. The US governing body, then known as The Athletics Congress (TAC) threatened the athletes with expulsion from future competition. About half of the runners opted not to compete that day, most notably Frank Shorter who was afraid of losing his eligibility. Herb Lindsay and Anne Audain won the race. No one really knew what to do. Lindsay wanted to keep his eligibility options open, so he transferred his winnings to a trust at a local bank in Boulder. Audain needed money to stay and train in the States, so she cashed her check. Eventually, the trust system was established where athletes could accept prize money and keep their eligibility status intact if they created bank accounts with TAC oversight. They could withdraw money for living expenses and travel and had to justify their expenses. These changes left the athletes divided and bitter. Some blame the subsequent downturn in American distance running prowess, which lasted for decades for the men, on the advent of professional running. Athletes ran for themselves, and some eschewed cooperative training groups that we commonly see today. And rather than training to peak for maybe one or two Olympic cycles during their 20s, runners were thinking longer term about their own careers and they pursued road race prize and appearance money, and longevity, over a huge peak every two to four years that would bring them to Olympic or World Championship glory. The money also brought in more foreign athletes. However, through most of the 1980s the top road runners in North America had also raced in the college system (which was also somewhat controversial with increasing foreign participation ). Shorter and others claim that the money provided incentive for performance enhancing drug use, which at the time was not controlled well. No doubt road racing had changed radically, and these changes went beyond track and field or road running. Up through this time Olympic teams were all amateurs, so professional basketball or hockey players were not eligible to compete at the Games. In 1992 that broke open with the advent of the basketball Dream Team with Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, et al. Growth of Women’s Running By the time the 1980s arrived it was hard to believe that barely a decade earlier women’s running at the international level was limited to short distances. However, at the 1980 Moscow Olympics the longest distance for women was the 1500 meters, with the 3000 meters and marathon being added in LA 1984. World record times at various distances improved rapidly during the decade. Grete Waitz’s marathon record of 2:27:32 set on a likely short course at New York City in 1979 (she would have run about 2:28) was broken multiple times over the next five years by Waitz herself (2:25), Joan Benoit (2:22), and Ingrid Kristiansen who ran an astounding 2:21:06 at Chicago in 1985. That record would hold for another 13 years. Participation numbers also increased, but maybe not as fast as you might think. Boston only had 237 female finishers in 1980. By the end of the decade Boston men still outnumbered women 5:1 with just over 5,000 runners total, and at New York City only 127 women finished in 1980 but 4,700 out of nearly 20,000 in 1989. There was no women’s NCAA cross country championship in 1980, or prior to that. Women had been running cross country at the college level for five years up to then they ran under the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) until the 1981 season. Betty Springs of NC State won that first championship in 16:19 and Virginia won the team crown. Springs (later Betty Geiger) went on to run on four World Championship cross country teams for the USA in the 1980s. Shoe Technology Shoe technology continued to improve and evolve. They became lighter and the cushioning better. Some innovations from the 1970s worked great, e.g., EVA foam and lighter synthetic uppers. But some did not (flared soles). By the 1980s innovations continued and the many models that were produced functioned even better than in the previous decade. The air shoe, pioneered by Nike, was a huge hit for many runners and for marketing purposes. The Air Pegasus made its debut in 1983 and the line is still in existence. Similar to running’s influence going beyond the sport regarding professionalism and the Olympics, shoe technology was applied to other sports and that made a big hit—Nike’s air basketball shoes in particular. Running and Culture Running went from something kind of quirky and offbeat in the early 1970s to something of a fad by the latter part of the decade. In the 80s the sport became more established and mainstream. Track and Field News had been around since 1948, but it was a niche publication catering to those who followed the elite levels of the sport. They were known as track nuts. Runners World got its start in the late 1960s and by the early 1980s the magazine had grown to 400,000 subscribers. There were also other running publications at the time, including Running Times, which existed for almost 40 years from the mid-1970s to 2015. And The Runner, which had a much shorter existence during the 1980s. Both of these magazines were competitors to the more established Runners World, but catered to a more competitive mindset with detailed coverage of races and profiles of athletes. Runners World would havethese features, but the magazine was heavily fitness and fashion oriented. In the end, Runners World won out and absorbed both of these magazines. The magazine appears to be thriving today with 2 million online and 700,000 print subscribers. Running also reached popular culture with hits on the big and small screen. Back tracking a bit, Marathon Man was released in 1977, but Dustin Hoffman was no runner and while the thriller movie was a big hit that year the running part was tangential. As they always say, the book was better. Two big ones were released in 1979, the Jericho Mile won three Emmy’s for TV and starred Peter Straus (who seemed to be king of the TV movies and serial dramas at that time). Golden Girl was panned by the critics as well as runners, but the movie made Susan Anton a star. Running was a TV movie with Michael Douglas as the lead. Douglas was already a TV star by then, and he would go on to be one of the iconic actors for over the next 20 years. Things did not slow down in the 80s, with Chariots of Fire being one of the hugest movies of the decade and it won several Oscars. That movie was about track but perhaps more so a period piece the social and cultural environment of the 1920s. Three more 80s films really focused on the sport of running. Personal Best was a popular movie that broke a lot of new ground. Running Brave was a biography of Billy Mills. On the Edge starring Bruce Dern was more of a cult classic, but it brought the heretofore very obscure sport of trail running to the forefront. Elite Running The Roads in the USA--Although there are many more road races now than the 1980s, the decade is still considered to be the glory era of road racing. There seemed to be more appearance and prize money for elite-post college runners and many of the top runners prioritized the roads. Top runners of the era included Jon Sinclair, Herb Lindsay, Stan Mavis, Greg Meyer, and Arturio Barrios. For women the most memorable athletes had a more international representation with Joan Benoit Samuelson, Greta Waitz, Ingrid Kristiansen, Anne Audain, and Allison Rowe often taking the races and headlines. *International Championships--*For Americans competing in international track and cross country there were many bright moments but by the end of the decade fewer athletes were vying for medals. Craig Virgin won back-to-back world cross country titles in 1980 and 1981. He is the last American male to win this event, which particularly back then was considered the toughest and deepest race in the world. A relatively unknown Pat Porter placed 4th at the world championships in 1984. In the 1980s the US women won four team titles in cross country and placed second twice. The world championships in track and field began officially in 1983. The “World Cup” which was held in 1977, 1979, 1981 was a precursor, but it was more like a Diamond League final. At the inaugural championships in Finland, Mary (Decker) Slaney won the 1500 and 3000 m races against the East Europeans—at the time the most dominant and most doped athletes in the world. Those wins electrified track fans in the US. Steve Scott won a silver medal in the 1500, and unheralded Marianne Dickerson won a bronze in the marathon. There were great hopes for the 1984 LA Games, which were highlighted by Joan Benoit’s astounding runaway 2:24 gold medal. On a hot summer afternoon, she surged early in the race and left the favored Norwegians minutes behind. It was the first ever Olympic marathon for women, and that race and the Olympic trials (2:50 to qualify) fueled a women’s running boom that continues today. There was great hope for Scott and Slaney to nab medals in their events on the track. Scott ran a lackluster 10th after leading earlier on (Jim Spivey of the US did place 5th) and Slaney got tangled up with South African teen phenom Zola Budd in the 3000 meters, did not finish nor did she compete in the 1500 because she was injured in the fall. After that, and really for the next 20 years world medals on the middle or long distance on track or marathon were very rare for the Americans. Chase has been with this girl (35F) that I'll call Vivian for almost 2 years now. About a month into their relationship, Vivian got pregnant with my nephew who is now almost a year old. Vivian also has 2 daughters (5F and 8F) from a previous relationship. Her daughters are very close in age to my daughter (7F) and up until last weekend everyone got along fine. They live in a different state than us but come to visit fairly often and stay with us because we have the extra room. Last weekend they came to stay again and about an hour before they left my daughter noticed that a few of her favorite toys were missing. The girls were playing all weekend so I didn't think much of it and offered to help her look for them. After about 20 minutes of searching we could not find the toys anywhere so I asked Vivian's girls if they remembered where they were playing with them last. The girls said no but acted a little guilty about it. I asked Chase and Vivian about it and Chase said he saw the exact toys in the room that Vivian's girls were sleeping in. We went to check and they were not there. He asked Vivian if she had moved them when she packed the girls things that morning and she said they were not there. We went back into the living room and I saw Vivian's girls huddled close together over a backpack and quickly closed it when they saw we were there. Chase asked the girls again if they knew where the toys were and this time they didn't say anything and just looked at their mom. Chase reached for the bag and Vivian lost it. She started yelling at me how dare I accuse her daughters of stealing and she tried to snatch the bag away. Chase opened it and there were the missing toys plus a few more. I was absolutely furious. I told her I wanted to see what else she had and demanded she open the 2 suitcases. She said that was an invasion of her privacy and tried to take them and leave. Chase stopped her and made her open them. She had taken several tops, a few skirts and dresses, and a brand new pair of Nikes that belonged to my daughter. I took everything back and told her she and her girls were not allowed back into my home. I have since received several texts from her and a few unknown numbers telling me I embarrassed her and upset her girls because they were promised the items. Chase is upset with her but said I was too mean to her in front of everyone and that I could have handled the situation more privately. I do feel awful that her girls left crying but AITHA for how I handled the situation? Edited to add: Answers to a few questions I keep getting: I am not sure who "promised" the girls the items, she would not elaborate but I'm assuming it was her. She wanted me to pull her aside into a different room away from Chase and the kids to talk the situation out. Also yes, I'm 99% sure the baby is his, he is almost a carbon copy of my brother when he was a baby. I do not believe the girls knew they were stealing the things, I really believe that their mom told them I said it was ok. KAS lore! For obvious reasons I'm going to be a little vague with certain details for privacy reasons. Mainly I don't want this crazy train coming back into my life and hopefully you'll understand why by the end. So buckle up bitches, this one is long and wild. And please don't judge me, we don't associate with ANY of these people anymore and haven't for over a decade. Also, I will say that she is a very pretty girl and has usually gotten whatever she wants from men so she's not used to hearing no. 2005 - When I was 18 my (then boyfriend now husband) and I were invited to a house party hosted by a friend of a friend To celebrate graduation. We knew about half the people there and had been to the house a handful of times before. We were all hanging out in the basement and after a few drinks I went upstairs to use the bathroom and that's where I met KAS who was 14 at the time. The bathroom door was open so I walked in and turned on the light but to my surprise there she was with some guy, in the bathtub, doing things you typically wouldn't do in an unlocked room. I apologized and found a different bathroom. About an hour later she came downstairs where the rest of us were and locked in on my boyfriend and made a beeline for him. Keep in mind I am right next to him. She tries to sit on his lap and when he pushes her off of him she pops back up like a demented jack in the box and immediately starts screeching about how she was "just playing" "you aren't even hot" and "you could do so much better than her" to him. We stayed another hour or so and left. A week later she was blowing up the guy's phone that she hooked up with telling him she was pregnant. When he didn't believe her (because honestly who would after just a week) she tried to press charges for rape. I do know my boyfriend and I both had to talk to a police officer because we were both there and I was the one that walked in on them. I don't know what happened after that but the charges were eventually dropped. 2009 - My husband and I are 22 and she is 18. We are now married and living on the east coast because he's in the military. We come home for his parent's 4th of July party and get tasked with going to get more ice. He runs in to pay and I'm standing by the ice chests outside waiting for him and guess who shows up. She walks straight up to me and says something along the lines of she's glad I finally learned my place and that her and my husband have been so happy together for the last year. She also made some very vulgar comments about their sex life. I don't even have time to react to her when he comes back outside and she goes pale and then bright red. This crazy bish then has the audacity to look at my husband and ask him what he wants for dinner that night and tried to "remind him" of plans they have that weekend to go to the lake with her family while he just stands there staring at her like a dumbass and then asks if he knows her. I absolutely lose it and almost piss myself from laughing as she stalks off. Once we are back to his parents he gets a FB friend request from her and deletes it. Over the period of 3 days she sends him 4 or 5 friend requests so he blocks her. We go back to NC the following week and forget all about her, again. 2010 - I am now 7 months pregnant with our daughter and we fly back to our hometown one last time before she's born of course run into KAS again at Walmart. I know how it sounds but we're from a town of about 5000 people so you kind of see everyone all the damn time whether you want to or not. I'm noticeably pregnant as I'm about 7m along, I'm also only 5'2" and at the time weighed about 115lbs so it was very clearly a baby bump. She is with her sister and they seem to be following us but we try to ignore them. We are now checking out and again they are right behind us still acting like children but in her defense she was 19ish at the time. We are still ignoring them and her sister says fairly loudly "He'll dump her now that she's fat". We continue to ignore them and leave the store. Later that day a friend tells us to check facebook and lo and behold there is a picture of me in the snack aisle with the caption "when you catch your surrogate buying nothing but junk food" and so many comments agreeing how horrible I am. This psycho had been telling everyone that I was the surrogate for her and my husband's baby. We filed an RO the next day. 2018 - We move back to our hometown and buy my family's farmland to start our own cattle business (highly don't recommend if you like to be able to make and keep plans, see your family, or take vacations). As far as we know she has gotten married and is living her life away from us. About 6 months into us being back we get a letter in the mail from a family lawyer saying my husband needs to present himself for a paternity test and we were being sued for child support. Apparently the baby girl came out white and KAS's husband was not. She told her husband that my husband had raped her and that it was his baby. Charges were filed and thankfully we were still in North Carolina at the time of conception and the army is very meticulous about know where their soldiers are at all times. The rape charges were immediately dismissed as was the paternity test and child support. We filed another RO and installed cameras all over our property. Her husband ended up adopting the baby and they stayed together. 2020 - She makes the front page of our town paper. Apparently KAS had had another baby girl who also did not match her husband's skintone. He kicked her and the kids out and one night she came back to his house, in full view of his security cameras, in her own car, with the kids and set his porch on fire. The husband got temporary custody of the girls for about 2 years while KAS was in jail. 2023 - She gets the girls back and dips out of state. The husband files a police report and everyone is looking for her. Unfortunately the husband passes in a car accident the same year. 2025 - I'm doom scrolling on reddit and see a story that sounds very familiar and here we are. Reasons I thought it was her from the other post: Her and the girls ages We knew she had a baby boy recently She has a history of theft and immediately playing the victim when caught We still have a few mutuals on FB so I do see her posts from time to time and knew she moved in with the new guy (OP's brother from the other post) about a year and a half ago. Well I think that's the meat and potatoes of it. I'll be around later this afternoon to answer any questions. I may have some of the dates off but hell, my memory is trash these days and I try not to think about her or any of those crazies. The original account has since been deleted unfortunately.   Update #1: May 4, 2025 (three days later) KAS update Hey all, this is probably going to be the last KAS update for awhile. It's been a rough 48 hours between some issues we're having on the farm due to 4 days straight of rain and KAS finding the posts about her. I'll try to be brief but give you guys an update as to what's going on. I have been in contact with the OP from the first post and have permission to include a couple updates from her situation as well. KAS has been arrested. Her girls are safe with OP's brother and they are all back at his house. She found the posts and went feral with comments and even a post which included a picture of my husband she took from my Facebook that I have since had to deactivate. We called our local sheriff department about the harassment and learned she had an active warrant. I was able to get in touch with OP to find out exactly where she was and they contacted the law enforcement agency in that area and they went and got her. We have pressed pressed charges as well. Right now she's looking at stalking, harassment, child endangerment, resisting arrest and assault on an officer, among the charges she already had pending. I knew what might happen if I responded to OPs post, but I do not regret reaching out to her or exposing her antics. What matters is everyone is safe and she is being held without bond. Update from OP: "The girls are safe with my brother and he has all 3 children. He has been awarded temporary guardianship and will be getting them into counseling in the coming week. I tried to press charges but as the items never left my home, I was unable to. I have a couple updates for you but first we need to discuss some things. I appreciate all the love we are getting from this but some of you need to check yourselves. I will not be posting pictures of her. I will not be linking articles. I will not be posting mugshots. I will not be posting her court records. While yes, all of this is public record and can be found online, it will also expose OUR names, address, and personal information. If you ask, you will be blocked. If I have to block enough people I will delete this account and then no one will get updates. Sorry to be an ass but this is our lives, our home, and I have to put us and our children's safety first. I have also had a few questions on why we moved back with all of this going on every time we came home. This farm has been in my family for over 120 years and I will not be giving that up over her. Now on to the updates. KAS is still in jail and will be held there until her court date in the coming months. After which she will be transferred back to where she was arrested to face charges there that include child endangerment, resisting arrest, and assault on an officer. We have had a few people ask if we are safe and yes we are. We have security cameras that run 24/7 on all structures (barns, houses, sheds, garages, everything) out here both inside and out. And well yes part of the reason we have them installed was because of her, the main reason is we own a working cattle farm. Farm accidents happen all of the time and our insurance is a lot less if we have them so no, we're not just being paranoid like a few have hinted at. I mentioned in a comment that her brother owns a trucking company that we work closely with so I was able to fill him in on everything going. He is talking to OOP's brother to take in the girls and they have a family court hearing on Friday and will hopefully be living with their uncle soon. He is a really good guy and his wife is amazing. If they were anything like KAS they would not be working for us and I believe they are the girls' best option for a normal upbringing. Now onto the baby boy. Chase IS the father! He already has a lawyer and given the circumstances should be able to get full custody and rights to him going forward. I will update again after the hearing on Friday, as we will be going with him to help him get the girls. As far as I know KAS has not reached out to check on them since being arrested. Oh and no, her late husband's accident was not her doing. He was driving home one night after being at the bar and went off the road. He was found the next day and there were no signs of foul play. It was determined the most likely cause was he was intoxicated, an animal ran out in front of him and he swerved to miss it but hit a tree.   ---FINAL UPDATE---- Final KAS Post: October 27, 2025 (5.5 months later) Hey all, it's been a minute! I don't know if anyone I'm even cares anymore but I have a final FINAL update. The girls are now in the custody of their uncle (KAS's brother) and his wife. They started school this fall and doing absolutely great. They are a little behind but are so smart and catching up quick. Baby boy is with his dad and also doing great. KAS is locked up and will be for at least the next 3-5 years. She pled guilty to a lot which expedited the process but did reduce the jail time. Few examples: One day I brought a kebab for lunch but didn’t finish it and planned to have the other half of it for dinner. I put it in the fridge at 12:00pm, by 7pm that night I came down and it was gone. I asked if someone ate it and my dad just said “I threw it away” and when I got mad he said “don’t leave half eaten things in the fridge” In my country, If you collect cans or recyclable bottles, you can trade them in for 10c each. My mother had a whole basket she had been collecting that had about 80 cans in it. She kept it in the garage and one day she came to find it was gone. She asked my dad and he said he threw it away. Obviously my mother was mad not because of the money, but because she spent time collecting them and he didn’t consult her before throwing it out, nor did he care. We keep our sneakers and boots (shoes we don’t wear often) in the garage. My mum brought a new pair of sneakers and put them on the shoe rack, so now she had 2 sneakers. She went to work with the new pair and then came home and her second pair were gone. She asked my dad and he said he there then away… didn’t even ask if she was still going to use them and they were $100 sneakers. Now, I kept my box of Invisalign retainers in a backpack in my room and hidden in the closet. Yes I’ll admit the backpack had rubbish in it (3 or 4 empty bottles of water and iced tea) and papers and books. Sometimes I can be messy but I always clean out my bag every week and there wasn’t any food in there. I came home from uni yesterday to find everything in that bag GONE, including the box of my 15 Invisalign trays. The only person who goes through peoples stuff in my house is my father, and my mother has had Invisalign in the past so she would know not to touch my box. I know he threw them out because I searched my entire room for them and didn’t find anything. I’ve never lost a box before I ALWAYS know where I keep them, so there’s absolutely no way they vanished. I confronted him and he said he doesn’t remember, he just threw what was in the bag away. I’m absolutely furious. Not only did he just go into my room and throw them away, but he’s refusing to pay to have them replaced (and it may be up to $3,000AUD) as my health insurance doesn’t cover lost or damaged Invisalign. He can find out the hard way not to fuck with other people’s stuff. OOP: Yep, he’s crazy like that. He has an insane habit of throwing things out in the fridge. No one in our family has time to cook every day so usually we cook in bulk for 3 days then cook again. If I cook pasta and he sees it in the fridge for more than 1 day, he just throws the whole thing out. Once I brought garlic mince, it was brand new and I had only used it once before he threw it out even though the expiry date wasn’t until next year. He said it was cluttering the fridge. I brought tomatoes to make pasta and lasagna for a friends dinner (I brought about 4 tomatoes plus the ones I already had in the fridge because they weren’t going to be enough) and he threw the ones we already had in the fridge out although they were still fresh. The sweet part is that I called my dentist and explained EVERYTHING to them, they told me not to worry and that they will replace all the aligners for FREE and that they will be ready for pick up next week. They sympathised with me and my situation, as well as acknowledged that I am a good patient and do not have any prior history of losing or damaging my aligners. Unfortunately it will add some time to my treatment but only an extra month or so which I am fine with. The bitter part. My mother and I confronted my father about this. We tried to be civil and just ask why he threw them out and if he knew how expensive they are. He completely dismissed us, for angry and walked away. Today I went to get the money to deposit it into the bank as my supplier sent me the invoice for payment, and low and behold- $100 is gone. I was so beyond livid because I really worked hard for this money (I hate cleaning) and my bill was exactly $500, so now I’m short $100 and will have to dip into my savings to pay. I told my mother and she was so disgusted and upset for me. I don’t know what we are going to do but….. Chase has been with this girl (35F) that I'll call Vivian for almost 2 years now. About a month into their relationship, Vivian got pregnant with my nephew who is now almost a year old. Vivian also has 2 daughters (5F and 8F) from a previous relationship. Her daughters are very close in age to my daughter (7F) and up until last weekend everyone got along fine. They live in a different state than us but come to visit fairly often and stay with us because we have the extra room. Last weekend they came to stay again and about an hour before they left my daughter noticed that a few of her favorite toys were missing. The girls were playing all weekend so I didn't think much of it and offered to help her look for them. After about 20 minutes of searching we could not find the toys anywhere so I asked Vivian's girls if they remembered where they were playing with them last. The girls said no but acted a little guilty about it. I asked Chase and Vivian about it and Chase said he saw the exact toys in the room that Vivian's girls were sleeping in. We went to check and they were not there. He asked Vivian if she had moved them when she packed the girls things that morning and she said they were not there. We went back into the living room and I saw Vivian's girls huddled close together over a backpack and quickly closed it when they saw we were there. Chase asked the girls again if they knew where the toys were and this time they didn't say anything and just looked at their mom. Chase reached for the bag and Vivian lost it. She started yelling at me how dare I accuse her daughters of stealing and she tried to snatch the bag away. Chase opened it and there were the missing toys plus a few more. I was absolutely furious. I told her I wanted to see what else she had and demanded she open the 2 suitcases. She said that was an invasion of her privacy and tried to take them and leave. Chase stopped her and made her open them. She had taken several tops, a few skirts and dresses, and a brand new pair of Nikes that belonged to my daughter. I took everything back and told her she and her girls were not allowed back into my home. I have since received several texts from her and a few unknown numbers telling me I embarrassed her and upset her girls because they were promised the items. KAS lore! For obvious reasons I'm going to be a little vague with certain details for privacy reasons. Mainly I don't want this crazy train coming back into my life and hopefully you'll understand why by the end. So buckle up bitches, this one is long and wild. And please don't judge me, we don't associate with ANY of these people anymore and haven't for over a decade. Also, I will say that she is a very pretty girl and has usually gotten whatever she wants from men so she's not used to hearing no. 2005 - When I was 18 my (then boyfriend now husband) and I were invited to a house party hosted by a friend of a friend To celebrate graduation. We knew about half the people there and had been to the house a handful of times before. We were all hanging out in the basement and after a few drinks I went upstairs to use the bathroom and that's where I met KAS who was 14 at the time. The bathroom door was open so I walked in and turned on the light but to my surprise there she was with some guy, in the bathtub, doing things you typically wouldn't do in an unlocked room. I apologized and found a different bathroom. About an hour later she came downstairs where the rest of us were and locked in on my boyfriend and made a beeline for him. Keep in mind I am right next to him. She tries to sit on his lap and when he pushes her off of him she pops back up like a demented jack in the box and immediately starts screeching about how she was "just playing" "you aren't even hot" and "you could do so much better than her" to him. We stayed another hour or so and left. A week later she was blowing up the guy's phone that she hooked up with telling him she was pregnant. When he didn't believe her (because honestly who would after just a week) she tried to press charges for rape. I do know my boyfriend and I both had to talk to a police officer because we were both there and I was the one that walked in on them. I don't know what happened after that but the charges were eventually dropped. 2009 - My husband and I are 22 and she is 18. We are now married and living on the east coast because he's in the military. We come home for his parent's 4th of July party and get tasked with going to get more ice. He runs in to pay and I'm standing by the ice chests outside waiting for him and guess who shows up. She walks straight up to me and says something along the lines of she's glad I finally learned my place and that her and my husband have been so happy together for the last year. She also made some very vulgar comments about their sex life. I don't even have time to react to her when he comes back outside and she goes pale and then bright red. This crazy bish then has the audacity to look at my husband and ask him what he wants for dinner that night and tried to "remind him" of plans they have that weekend to go to the lake with her family while he just stands there staring at her like a dumbass and then asks if he knows her. I absolutely lose it and almost piss myself from laughing as she stalks off. Once we are back to his parents he gets a FB friend request from her and deletes it. Over the period of 3 days she sends him 4 or 5 friend requests so he blocks her. We go back to NC the following week and forget all about her, again. 2010 - I am now 7 months pregnant with our daughter and we fly back to our hometown one last time before she's born of course run into KAS again at Walmart. I know how it sounds but we're from a town of about 5000 people so you kind of see everyone all the damn time whether you want to or not. I'm noticeably pregnant as I'm about 7m along, I'm also only 5'2" and at the time weighed about 115lbs so it was very clearly a baby bump. She is with her sister and they seem to be following us but we try to ignore them. We are now checking out and again they are right behind us still acting like children but in her defense she was 19ish at the time. We are still ignoring them and her sister says fairly loudly "He'll dump her now that she's fat". We continue to ignore them and leave the store. Later that day a friend tells us to check facebook and lo and behold there is a picture of me in the snack aisle with the caption "when you catch your surrogate buying nothing but junk food" and so many comments agreeing how horrible I am. This psycho had been telling everyone that I was the surrogate for her and my husband's baby. We filed an RO the next day. 2018 - We move back to our hometown and buy my family's farmland to start our own cattle business (highly don't recommend if you like to be able to make and keep plans, see your family, or take vacations). As far as we know she has gotten married and is living her life away from us. About 6 months into us being back we get a letter in the mail from a family lawyer saying my husband needs to present himself for a paternity test and we were being sued for child support. Apparently the baby girl came out white and KAS's husband was not. She told her husband that my husband had raped her and that it was his baby. Charges were filed and thankfully we were still in North Carolina at the time of conception and the army is very meticulous about know where their soldiers are at all times. The rape charges were immediately dismissed as was the paternity test and child support. We filed another RO and installed cameras all over our property. Her husband ended up adopting the baby and they stayed together. 2020 - She makes the front page of our town paper. Apparently KAS had had another baby girl who also did not match her husband's skintone. He kicked her and the kids out and one night she came back to his house, in full view of his security cameras, in her own car, with the kids and set his porch on fire. The husband got temporary custody of the girls for about 2 years while KAS was in jail. 2023 - She gets the girls back and dips out of state. The husband files a police report and everyone is looking for her. Unfortunately the husband passes in a car accident the same year. 2025 - I'm doom scrolling on reddit and see a story that sounds very familiar and here we are. Reasons I thought it was her from the other post: Her and the girls ages We knew she had a baby boy recently She has a history of theft and immediately playing the victim when caught We still have a few mutuals on FB so I do see her posts from time to time and knew she moved in with the new guy (OP's brother from the other post) about a year and a half ago. Well I think that's the meat and potatoes of it. I'll be around later this afternoon to answer any questions. I may have some of the dates off but hell, my memory is trash these days and I try not to think about her or any of those crazies. I really think part of it is jealousy because he's one of the few that never fell for her "charms". Like I said it's a very small town and she really is a pretty girl. The crazier thing is he's not the only one she's latched onto over the years but I don't feel comfortable telling other people's stories. I'll get ahold of the other guy she's been obsessed with and see if he will allow me to tell his story on here. What was KAS like when growing up? Was she displaying that kind of behavior? OOP 2: I agree with you 100%. But at what point do you grow up and see what you're going is absolutely insane? I do know her childhood wasn't great, they were pretty low income so they did struggle but I know her parents and her siblings and aside from the one sister, they are all really good people. One of her brothers owns a very successful trucking company that we actually have a contract with for our cattle business. Her other sister is a nurse at our local hospital. KAS is the baby of the 5 of them and was kind of allowed to do whatever she wanted so I think that played into it too. OOP 2 responds to a comment about OOP 1 deleting account OOP 2: Yeah unfortunately psycho Sally found that one and this one. The original account has since been deleted unfortunately.   Update #1: May 4, 2025 (three days later) KAS update Hey all, this is probably going to be the last KAS update for awhile. It's been a rough 48 hours between some issues we're having on the farm due to 4 days straight of rain and KAS finding the posts about her. I'll try to be brief but give you guys an update as to what's going on. I have been in contact with the OP from the first post and have permission to include a couple updates from her situation as well. KAS has been arrested. Her girls are safe with OP's brother and they are all back at his house. She found the posts and went feral with comments and even a post which included a picture of my husband she took from my Facebook that I have since had to deactivate. We called our local sheriff department about the harassment and learned she had an active warrant. I was able to get in touch with OP to find out exactly where she was and they contacted the law enforcement agency in that area and they went and got her. We have pressed pressed charges as well. Right now she's looking at stalking, harassment, child endangerment, resisting arrest and assault on an officer, among the charges she already had pending. I knew what might happen if I responded to OPs post, but I do not regret reaching out to her or exposing her antics. What matters is everyone is safe and she is being held without bond. Update from OP: "The girls are safe with my brother and he has all 3 children. He has been awarded temporary guardianship and will be getting them into counseling in the coming week. I tried to press charges but as the items never left my home, I was unable to. We will have the results of the paternity test next week, as well, but no matter the outcome he will be trying to get full rights to my nephew." Additional Information from OOP 2: Guys. I have had several messages asking for a picture of her. Let me make this VERY clear, I will not be doing that. I will not be posting her picture on here. I will not be posting her picture in some random group on Facebook. I am trying to protect my family along with the family of the OP of the first post. Hell at this point I'm also trying to protect her girls. For a reason you came acros op's post, it was definitely the right thing to do you coming with all that information about KAS so everyone can find peace. Hopefully everything moves on to the right direction for everyone involved.   Update #2: May 7, 2025 (three days later) Good morning all. I have a couple updates for you but first we need to discuss some things. I appreciate all the love we are getting from this but some of you need to check yourselves. I will not be posting pictures of her. I will not be linking articles. I will not be posting mugshots. I will not be posting her court records. While yes, all of this is public record and can be found online, it will also expose OUR names, address, and personal information. If you ask, you will be blocked. If I have to block enough people I will delete this account and then no one will get updates. Sorry to be an ass but this is our lives, our home, and I have to put us and our children's safety first. I have also had a few questions on why we moved back with all of this going on every time we came home. This farm has been in my family for over 120 years and I will not be giving that up over her. Now on to the updates. KAS is still in jail and will be held there until her court date in the coming months. After which she will be transferred back to where she was arrested to face charges there that include child endangerment, resisting arrest, and assault on an officer. We have had a few people ask if we are safe and yes we are. We have security cameras that run 24/7 on all structures (barns, houses, sheds, garages, everything) out here both inside and out. And well yes part of the reason we have them installed was because of her, the main reason is we own a working cattle farm. Farm accidents happen all of the time and our insurance is a lot less if we have them so no, we're not just being paranoid like a few have hinted at. I mentioned in a comment that her brother owns a trucking company that we work closely with so I was able to fill him in on everything going. He is talking to OOP's brother to take in the girls and they have a family court hearing on Friday and will hopefully be living with their uncle soon. He is a really good guy and his wife is amazing. If they were anything like KAS they would not be working for us and I believe they are the girls' best option for a normal upbringing. Now onto the baby boy. Chase IS the father! He already has a lawyer and given the circumstances should be able to get full custody and rights to him going forward. I will update again after the hearing on Friday, as we will be going with him to help him get the girls. As far as I know KAS has not reached out to check on them since being arrested. Oh and no, her late husband's accident was not her doing. He was driving home one night after being at the bar and went off the road. He was found the next day and there were no signs of foul play. Bought a couple pairs of Nike 4% FlyKnit shoes. Went on a couple long runs and a solo marathon with one pair. Best shoes I have ever run in. Energy return and cushion are phenomenal. Easily dropped 10-20 sec off my mile pace at the same HR. Problem is I have a bunion on my left foot and these shoes are too narrow. I thought I could grit through the blisters for the performance advantage but I developed further foot injuries that kept me from running for 5+ weeks so my other pair of brand new Vaporflys are up for sale. My right foot never experienced any of the foot issues so the discomfort is 100% due to my bunion. New in box Size 13 (US) Mens SOLD! I'm located in Kansas, U.S.A.
