Omnipod

Health   Company   Sustained growth

Omnipod is a tubeless insulin pump system that is designed to help people with diabetes manage their blood sugar levels. It consists of a small, waterproof pod that is worn on the body and delivers insulin through a small, flexible tube called a cannula. The pod is controlled wirelessly using a handheld device called a Personal Diabetes Manager (PDM).

Top reasons why this topic is getting popular

1. Convenience and Freedom

The Omnipod system offers a level of convenience and freedom that traditional insulin pumps do not. Since it is tubeless, there are no external tubes or wires to manage, allowing users to move more freely and comfortably. The pod can be worn discreetly under clothing and is waterproof, allowing for activities like swimming and showering without interruption.

2. Ease of Use

The Omnipod system is designed to be user-friendly, making it easier for people with diabetes to manage their insulin therapy. The PDM has a simple interface and intuitive navigation, making it easy to program and adjust insulin delivery. The pod itself is also easy to apply and remove, with an automated insertion process that eliminates the need for manual insertion of a cannula.

3. Customizable Insulin Delivery

The Omnipod system allows for customizable insulin delivery based on individual needs. Users can program different basal rates to match their body's insulin requirements throughout the day, and can also deliver bolus doses of insulin to cover meals or correct high blood sugar levels. This flexibility helps to optimize blood sugar control and improve overall diabetes management.

4. Integration with Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM)

The Omnipod system can be integrated with a CGM device, allowing users to monitor their blood sugar levels in real-time and make informed decisions about insulin dosing. This integration provides valuable data and insights that can help users better understand their glucose patterns and make adjustments to their insulin therapy as needed.

5. Growing Popularity and Community Support

The Omnipod system has been gaining popularity among people with diabetes, with a growing community of users who share their experiences and support each other. This sense of community can be valuable for individuals who are new to insulin pump therapy or looking for peer support and advice. The availability of online resources and forums dedicated to Omnipod users further contributes to its popularity.

Omnipod had no solution for my difficulty filling Omnipod with tremor. But I have found I can do it using an insulin pen instead of the vial and syringe they insist on. So I’m doubtful they would offer a solution for low vision.

Welcome @davidklumpp2024 from another 3c, in my case caused by pancreatitis. I've been on insulin from the start (not much pancreas left) but some 3cs manage without, at least at the start. There is lots of support on here so do ask if there is anything we can help with. T3c following necrotising pancreatitis in 2019. Pumping Novorapid in Omnipod dash (from March 2023) and using Libre 2.

Hi wondering if anybody can help. My daughter is 18 and will be working abroad next summer for 8 months in a single location likely to be Greece. She uses Novarapid insulin, a Omnipod 5 and a dexcom. Does anybody know the best way of ensuring she has access to insulin and possibly the omnipod and dexcom. All advice would be much appreciated. Thank you

I am new here. I was led to the site from a 'Google' enquiry regarding Omnipod and Libre2+ as my daughter went onto a pump on Wednesday after nearly 10 years using pens. The discussion threads were informative and chimed with what we were experiencing. It is great to be here to share the lived experience of diabetes.

I am 71 years old. Is there a generation gap here? I have been using G7 over a year and at no cost to me with my Medicare. Not that much technology here..very easy to use, blue tooth. Going to try Omnipod with G7 since it just got approved last month.

This has been in limited release and is expected to drop this month for the rest of us. Has anyone heard when? I’ve been waiting for this for years.
