omnivore vs original
As the title states. I have been tasked to get one of these for a silent auction. I know nothing about these. I see 2 versions in the store. Is one better than the other. The omnivore cost more but they are on sale and about same price as original. Is there a preference? They wanted to get 36", that thing is huge! Is that the way to go or is 28" fine. I guess it depends on needs of the person. TIA submitted by /u/photon1701d to r/blackstonegriddle [link] [comments]

Still no true Omnivore (read-it-later) Replacement?
It has been approximately a year since Omnivore left the scene and I am wondering if any true read-it-later with similar feature sets have been created? I know of linkwarden, karakeep, etc, but they lack some of the below which I consider to be critical: Save paywalled info via extension to be able to read-later Highlighting text and creating notes regarding those highlights, including within PDFs. PDF support, including saving PDFs from the web (as opposed to having to upload them manually) Tracking read location (critical in large PDFs) Email-to-app feature. This was one of my favourite features of Omnivore. I work heavily with PDFs and many of the current options are lacking. I know Omnivore was incredibly popular and so I am just surprised that a clone hasn't been created. Any ideas? submitted by /u/Tempestshade to r/selfhosted [link] [comments]

My doctor recommended me to go omnivore and see a dietitian
For context i’m F20 have been vegan for 3 years and I’ve had stomach issues for a long time and I think they have been worse for about a year now. Yesterday I went to see a doctor who is specialised in intestinal disorders after seeing a gynaecologist for these issues I’ve had. My stomach is really reactive, which means that it’s either really active or not active at all. I have a lot of bloating and my stomach hurts once in a while. First my doctor told me he thinks my stomach issues are caused by my anxiety disorder, which I don’t think it’s true. Because I know when my stomach issues are caused by stress and it’s very different than what I have more often. When I told him I was vegan he made me feel like I was being brainwashed by vegan community and inside in some kind of cult. He continued by saying that many young people are easily influenced as in I was too gullible and I shouldn’t believe everything I see in the internet. I think it was because I said i’m vegan because of animals but also for health, but the health for me comes second. It was a bit odd to hear from a doctor who didn’t ask anything about my specific diet to tell me that I wasn’t getting enough of protein or fats. He said that it’s common for vegans to have certain stomach issues, is that so? I really want to know if i’m being gaslighted by a really biased omnivore or would going back as vegetarian etc. make my stomach issues go away? (We did end up taking some blood tests and stool samples to check for celiac disease and for some other intestinal disorders but i’m currently waiting for the results.) submitted by /u/haarukkalapio to r/vegan [link] [comments]

I’m an omnivore, is that no longer ok in today’s society?
Society gravitates to extremes, I used to be a vegan a long time ago and my partner is now fully carnivore. Why can’t we just be omnivores anymore? It seems everywhere I look I see these restrictive clans against one another. I eat everything: olive oil, butter, milk, eggs, fish, steak, raw vegetables, juices, fruit, seaweed, pasta, rice, yoghurt, etc… I try to eat what used to be called balanced diet. But the vegans in my life tell me I’m a murderer and killing myself and the carnivores swear carbs and vegetables are the enemy. Both extremes seem unreasonable to me but being a regular omnivore is seen as unhealthy and weird now. WTH! submitted by /u/Excellent-Top2552 to r/exvegans [link] [comments]

The Human Diet.
“Alright class, this should be an easy one for you. Can anyone tell me which sapient species has the most resistant metabolism among the galactic union?” “Yes, Ilgooric.” “I believe it’s Humans.” “Correct, now which species has the highest food related death rate among the galactic union species?” “Ilgooric again.” “Isn’t that Humans again?” “Yes, perfect. Can anyone tell me why this apparent contradiction exists?” “It’s because they aren’t afraid of anything.” “Not exactly. Humans purposefully avoid food that they know will kill them. To explain properly we need to go back to the evolutionary past. First of all Humans evolved from an ape like species, one that lived in a dense jungle, where they primarily fed on plants. However, due to natural changes in their planets ecology that jungle eventually became Savannah and even a desert. When this happened the Humans primary food source disappeared and they had to adapt. The most abundant food source around was other animals, so they eventually began transitioning to a predatory species. However, at this same time they began spreading out from their natural environment. They had to compete with new, better predators. Hunting was still a viable option for gathering food, however it was safer for them to eat plants in their surroundings. As with on many worlds some plants evolve to produce delicious and nutritious fruits in-order to spread their seeds while others evolve poisons to protect themselves. Unlike other worlds however, a category 9 death world evolves some interesting differences. Most plants on the Humans home-world have some degree of poison. This is because they want to attract certain animals while detouring others. Many of these can look very similar as-well, and even be within the same family. For example one of the Humans favorite foods, one they call a tomatoes is in the same family of plants and also closely resembles the nightshade, one of the deadliest species of plants on the planet for Humans. In fact Humans actually eat many plants that could be considered deadly if they are not prepared correctly, and they also grow breeds of plants that previous ancestors would have been considered deadly. But through selective breeding and genetic manipulation they are now edible. There are even certain plants that humans grow specifically for their poisons. A species of plant known as the pepper is a wonderful example that many of you have probably heard of. Because of the Humans struggle to safely find food in many cases it was safer for them to try a variety of foods and learn which ones kill and which ones don’t through trial and error than it was to try and compete with powerful predators. And so they became an omnivorous species capable of consuming various plants and animals. This lead them to evolve a digestive system capable of handling many foods that would kill other animals on their planet. For example one of their favorite pets are called dogs, but even now dogs are easily killed by one of the humans favorite foods, the grape. A Human can eat dozens of these small fruits in a single setting, but a single one is enough to be fatal even for larger varieties of their dog companions. The Humans love food because they were always stressed for food in their past. And they love trying new foods. You may have heard a popular Human saying “I’ll try anything once.” This is where that saying comes from. This is why Humans have these seemingly contradictory traits. They have adapted to try anything once, which has also led them to adapt a very strong resistance to many things that would kill other species. This however also leads them to try things that would kill them. Humans are famous for their stupidity when it comes to eating food. They get this stereotype against them because of a certain instance in which more than a hundred humans died over the course of one of their lifetimes just to find the one Ghitroxian food that will not kill them. This may seem irrational for us, however you should also remember the famous instance of planet 063578946 also known as HAFH, or as the Humans like to call it, Home Away From Home. In which a large transport ship with more than 50 different species crashed. The Humans were the only survivors, not only surviving, but building a large settlement and setting up a successful colony with no outside support. By the time they were discovered several generations had passed and they only had stories of their ancestors coming from the stars. However, they had farms with hundreds of crops, in an area where most of the plants in their surroundings would have killed them had they eaten too much. Furthermore the vast majority of their crops were native to that planet, very few were food plants that the Humans gathered from the ship. In short class, the Humans ability and willingness to eat anything and everything should not be underestimated as stupidity but a very successful survival tactic. Though it should also be stressed that this is not recommended for other species as we simply do not have the capability to digest such variety in foods. Which is why the vast majority of Human foods are banned for consumption by the wider galaxy. submitted by /u/CatFish21sm to r/HFY [link] [comments]

True Omnivores
“Where’s Sandy?” Prohofehahi looked around. The underwater laboratory designed for aquatic species was, as always, partially staffed. It was rare for all researchers from different species to have their living cycles in sync at a given moment. Sandy Singh, the only Human researcher of the waterlogged facility, was nowhere to be seen. Instead, a cephalopod floated over to the newest colleague. “She’s not here. Dr. Singh should be in her living quarters by now.” A tentacle twirled and pointed towards a polycarbonate window. Outside, a faintly lit dome was barely visible in the dark waters. “Thank you, Dr. Munosuke. If that’s the case, a message will suffice.” “I won’t do that if I were you, Dr. Prohofehahi.” Munosuke’s stopped Prohofehahi. “The station’s daily cycle is at 12.5 %. It's three in the morning for Humans, so unless our station has a hull breach or a medical emergency, there is no way you can wake up a Human with a single message.” Prohofehahi sighed in disbelief. “Oh, right. Humans are blissfully ignorant when they are asleep.” “Is your concern Human-related or station-related? If you have something to ask about our workplace, I’m open for small talk.” Munosuke asked in a friendly manner. “Thank you. One thing has been nagging me for dozens of shifts. Um… why… does this place exists?” Prohofehahi could see Munosuke’s visible part of the skin sparkle like stars. The cephalopod seemed either intrigued. “Will you elaborate?” Munosuke asked back. “Sure,” Prohofehahi continued, “Assume pressurized space in outer space was at a premium for Early Space Age Humans. If they could grow the same amount of edible flesh in a much smaller vat, why bother to build a gigantic station in outer space to hold an entire biome from their home planet? It should take much less space growing simple tissues.” “First, cost. Second, logistics.” Munosuke held up two of their tentacles in front of Prohofehahi in a way Sandy used to express numbers with her fingers. “When Humans took to the stars by the millions, the balance slowly tipped towards the other side: spending more money on a bigger facility. You're a mathematician; you should be familiar with square-cube law.” “Now that I think about it, you have a point.” Prohofehahi did a quick mental calculus and nodded. “The need for the outer hull expands slower than the number of individual grow vats. Still, I don’t get it when you said logistics.” “Managing rows and rows of vats for a single tissue is easy. When you manage several different production lines, things get more complicated. Increase that to several dozens, each having unique needs, and it becomes a logistical nightmare.” Munosuke said, pointing at their own. “I am working here as a supply chain manager, remember? All Human fishery stations need dedicated supply chain managers to oversee their edible menagerie.” “Wait, I always thought this station was optimized for three profitable products.” Prohofehahi was an applied mathematician. Most of his work was to simulate multiple scenarios that assume alteration to the fishery’s ecological and structural balance. His work was fed with thousands of datasets from other fisheries, and all results were forwarded to other researchers who could build correspondent contingency plans. Whenever Prohofehahi was wrapping up a set of simulations, he was asked by higher management to include an executive summary around a handful of species: apex species that made the most revenue to the company. “Sure, this station is divided into three sections, and each has its signature species. Thunnus thynnus, Salmo salar, and Paralithodes camtschaticus. Do you think Humans eat only tuna, salmon, and crab from the sea?” Munosuke continued in frustration. “When I first came here, I bumped into a Human hauler who would occasionally wait inside the station while the ship loaded and unloaded its cargo. I showed the hauler the list of species I had to manage and asked which species out of those hundreds of marine species was eligible for shipping. Can you imagine what the hauler said?” “Was it a long list?” Prohofehahi asked worrisomely. “Yes.” “How long?” “No, I meant he answered YES.” Munosuke’s tentacles trembled in fear. “Anything and everything. Humans eat tuna, the food of the tuna, and the food of the food of the tuna. You’re managing the profitable species on the top of the food chain because it’s just a single point of failure. You can't go through every single species on a summary so looking at a handful of apex species is the best thing you can do.” “You’re ranting about the True Omnivore again? Let me join in.” A crustacean lab technician was lured in. The equipment technician held four different tools, each on other claws. “Did you know Humans cut down the forest on the far edge of this station for their consumption?” “The kelp?” Prohofehahi pointed towards his monitor. “Wait, is it what abrupt deforestation means in scenarios I work with?” “Somebody must have been curious how much kelp can be harvested at once without messing up the fisheries.” The crustacean clicked the claws. “Just between us, even Dr. Singh borrows tools from me sometimes to chop down a single stock of it.” “That’s what I meant by logistics. Simulating an entire ecosystem is the only solution to satisfy their infinitely diverse demand. I am not tasked with a simple supply chain; this is a supply spaghetti. I would have blanched myself if the 99.9 percent of my job was not automated like it is now.” Munosuke said, trembling. “This is the best technological option for feeding a True Omnivore, Dr. Prohofehahi. This station exists because Humans made themselves the apex predators of every single planetary biome in their home planet.” submitted by /u/erised10 to r/HFY [link] [comments]

Maybe I'm not okay with an omnivore boyfriend
I've been vegan for 14 years. My boyfriend of three eats meat, always has, always will. It was made very clear to me on our second date, but due to his honesty (none of those seemingly obligatory stories about how someone was vegetarian for a day and their hair fell out, etc), and the fact he's always been super supportive of me. He now eats almost 90% vegan, as I mostly cook. We are staying at his folks, and I walk into the kitchen to two huge slabs of pig and lamb. His mom fucking coos how much he loves lamb, and how he deserves a treat. And upon seeing how visibly upset I was (usually my poker face is awesome), the family's comments began. I guess I've suppressed all of this until the thought of him eating some baby lamb (the Herbivore shirt that says "what kind of an asshole eats a lamb?" keeps popping into my head). Sorry for the long rant. Do any of you have omni partners? How do you make it work? submitted by /u/salty_broad to r/vegan [link] [comments]
