I used about 100% WOF purple pampas grass flower heads. Fabric is cotton, mordant with 5% WOF gall tannin for 30 mins then 5% WOF alum for 15 mins. Didn't time the dye bath probably 30 minutes. Boho In Pampas Grass (With Prompt)
A sepia-toned moment in a pampas grass setting. I was going for a boho style. Second prompt for the day so I hope I'm not spamming. Images are V5 using Lago and Riva anchors. Written for a female but should be easy to change to suit your needs. If you check it out, please enjoy. 🫶 A close-up portrait of the person with a serene expression, gently looking into the camera. The subject wears the layered boho-style outfit featuring the loose cream-colored macramé lace blouse and delicate layered necklaces. She is wearing a classic, floppy sun hat with a wide brim, woven from natural straw, which casts a soft shadow over her features. She is sitting outdoors in the field of tall, dry pampas grass during the golden hour, with warm light and the same blurred, dreamy pampas grass background with beautiful round bokeh. The warm sepia filter is still applied, infusing the entire image with vintage, nostalgic tones, muted contrast, and a timeless, romantic mood. Saw these at a local feed store…wondering if there is any difference in the meaning between rocking the regular Pampas and the Dwarf version in front of your house…or if Pampas is just Pampas at the end of the day. Pampas grass basket with in-progress pictures
How it started: There was a neglected clump of pampas grass in the easement behind my house, and I saw a video on facebook of Delia Fann smoothing the sharp edges on the leaves and weaving with it. I gather the weathered, dead leaves and the curly stalks and pulled the sharp edges over a rag to soften them. I made some tiny baskets just to see how it behaved (last picture). Weaving: When I was ready to weave, I soaked them in water for a bit, then got to work. As I worked, I realized they didn’t need a soaking (just a dunk or spray) and would start to curl as they dried out, letting me know to mist them. I used the reed mace basket tutorial in the *Wild Basketry* book by Ruby Taylor to weave with a mould and twining method. I used the formerly-curly stalk sheaths as the stakes and the thinner leaves as the weavers. I sometimes had to take out the thicker leaf veins/ribs). Retrospective: I’m surprised by how sturdy it seams, and by how much material it used. I accidentally twined a few stakes together in some areas, and I wish the weaving was a little tighter and closer together. I like the color despite the grass having some mold stains from being outside all winter. Since I used multiple strands for the weavers, I would like to find a way to manage the material more-easily. I’ve also seen some different ways to start a spoke-style cattail basket that I may explore in the future. I’m also exploring cordage with the stalks. submitted by /u/JayXFour to r/BasketWeaving [link] [comments]

19th-century Argentina: British writer William Henry Hudson visits the Pampas and encounters the gauchos. He documents their diet with a horrified fascination.
"The gaucho eats nothing but beef. Meat morning, noon, and night. Never bread, never vegetables, almost never salt." Hudson foresees malnutrition and disease. He finds "men of extraordinary stamina and strength, capable of riding for 12 to 14 hours without rest and then dancing all night." Their diet: beef, mate, occasionally grilled kidney fat (a delicacy). Nothing else. Darwin visited the region between 1832 and 1833 and observed the gauchos' lives: "I was surprised by the difficulty in convincing them to eat anything other than beef. I brought them biscuits, and they threw them away. They preferred to go hungry rather than eat bread if there was beef the next day." Typical meals - Morning: meat roasted over a fire, fattier cuts. - Afternoon: grilled ribs. - Evening: meat again, tougher cuts cooked slowly. Zero vegetables. Zero grains. Zero variety. Just beef and tea. Hudson documents the results: “The gauchos suffer from none of the ailments common to civilized man. They had no digestive problems, no obesity, no cavities, that I could observe. Their teeth were uniformly excellent despite never cleaning them and consuming only meat. Their physical stamina was such that they could ride for days with minimal rest, fight when necessary, and resume riding without apparent fatigue.” The French physician Dr. Jules Crevaux, between 1850 and 1870, wrote: “These men feed exclusively on animal meat and appear healthier than our European peasants, who consume a varied diet of grains and vegetables.” When asked why they don't eat bread or vegetables, the common answer is: "That's food for horses and cows. We eat cows." They understood the hierarchy. Cattle eat grass and turn it into meat. Humans eat meat. Eating what cattle eat makes you behave like one. Until the beginning of the 20th century, traditional gauchos maintained a diet based exclusively on beef. Then, European immigration brought wheat cultivation. Health transformation documented by Argentine doctors - Traditional gauchos: healthy into old age. - Urbanized ex-gauchos with European diets: diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, tooth decay. - Modern Argentina: 28% obesity, cardiovascular disease as the leading cause of death, diabetes in almost 10%. The gauchos, who ate only beef, did not have any of these problems. They rode horses for 12 hours a day until they were 60, kept their teeth without needing dental care, and died from accidents or old age, not from chronic illnesses. The same meat. Different context. When you eat meat with grains, vegetable oils, and sugar: modern disease. Meat alone: you have the health of a 19th-century gaucho. submitted by /u/elnovorealista2000 to r/AmericanHistory [link] [comments]

Mistake for planting pampas grass here?
We love pampas grass and been awestruck when we see one. When we bought the house I planted one here. Its grown a bit but now looking at pics from other redditors I realise I may have given it too less space. Shall I take it out before it grows more? I read it spawns 2ish metres across and that will take my whole driveway away lol. If I remove it I am thinking of going cherry blossom submitted by /u/justsome1onhere to r/GardeningUK [link] [comments]

Faux pampas grass substitute for feathers?
Hi guys! New here, and an amateur when it comes to prop making or cosplay in general. So my main issue is, that on this cosplay, I want to recreate the tail of Lord Shen from Kung Fu panda 2 (similar to the 2nd pic) and can't really afford faux feathers or real feathers that can suit my budget. But then an ad popped up on pampas grass. It's much cheaper, and bigger than the original feathers I planned on bulk buying (Nowhere near my area doesn't sell feathers as well) Only issue is it a good substitute? Has anyone ever used pampas grass for a prop? I need thy aid cosplayers of reddit 🥲 submitted by /u/DreadfulALurid to r/CosplayHelp [link] [comments]

Finally getting rid of pampas grass, but the roots keep going and going. Now what?
We had a huge cluster of pampas grass on the side of our yard that we finally decided to get rid of. It took a few hours just to cut it back and hack away the base. Now that that's gone, I've been trying to eradicate the roots so it doesn't come back but they just... keep... going... They've gone under pavers, bricks, and the fence that separates our yard from common space. My hole is now 4-5 feet across and a couple feet down and still they continue. What's my best option here? I won't be able to dig up the common space so full eradication is out of the picture. I'm resistant to any chemicals because we may want to plant something else here at some point. Cardboard, replace bricks, hope for the best? submitted by /u/Jubjub-bird to r/landscaping [link] [comments]

Sleepovers should be normal for adults, they’re way better than parties.
Think about it: movies, snacks, talking until 3 AM, no pressure to dress up, no expensive drinks, no worrying about getting home. Just hanging out and laughing like when we were kids. Honestly feels healthier and way more fun than a crowded party. submitted by /u/AlternativeBowler499 to r/unpopularopinion [link] [comments]

Started digging out a pampas grass…
Then things turned a little The Last Of Us when the extent of the roots were discovered. Along with another surprise buried patio/slabs. Tomorrow’s task is to dig a trench as big around as possible and see how deep this bastard gets. I cut it down to the stump on Sunday and it’s already started growing back. This prob isn’t technically DIY but I did use a reciprocating saw to hack it down. submitted by /u/si_davies to r/DIYUK [link] [comments]
