Allow me to walk you through my permanent jewelry setup item by item
One of the most common questions I see from beginners is, "What do I actually need to start a permanent jewelry business?" When I was researching, it felt like everyone either showed a luxury setup that probably cost $10,000+ or a folding table with almost no explanation of what anything was. The good news is that you need far less than you probably think. Here's exactly how I'd rebuild my permanent jewelry set up, starting with the essentials and then adding pieces as the business grows. Stage 1: The Money-Making Essentials If your goal is simply to start serving clients and earning revenue, this is all you need. A Reliable Permanent Jewelry Welder This is the heart of your business. Personally, I'd skip the no-name imported welders that flood online marketplaces. Your welder is the one tool you absolutely don't want failing in front of a paying client. I'd rather spend a little more on something backed by a trusted company with real customer support. Permanent Jewelry Chain You will need something to sell. Most beginners start with a small selection of gold-filled and sterling silver chain. That gives customers enough variety without forcing you to invest thousands into inventory before you've made your first sale. If you're buying a starter kit from Permanent Jewelry Center, you can choose your own chain separately. Sunstone's kits include starter chain already, so both approaches work depending on your preference. Hand Tools These don't get nearly enough attention, but you'll use them every single appointment. My basic tool kit includes: - Flush cutters - Two pairs of flat nose pliers - Jump rings - Tungsten sharpening tools - Eye protection That's really it. Once you have those three categories covered, you can technically start making money. Stage 2: Turning It Into a Mobile Pop-Up Business Once you've started booking appointments, this is where I'd spend my next dollars. The goal isn't to make your setup expensive. The goal is to make it look professional and operate smoothly on-the-go. Folding Table A sturdy table that gives you enough room for your equipment and displays. Comfortable Chairs One for you and one for your client. You'll both appreciate it during longer appointments. Table Cover A fitted black or white tablecloth instantly makes everything look cleaner and more intentional. Pop-Up Tent If you plan on outdoor markets, this becomes one of your best investments. It protects you, your equipment, and your customers from sun and light rain. Portable Power Station Instead of hunting for electrical outlets at every event, bring your own power. A quality portable battery makes your setup far more flexible and opens the door to festivals, wineries, weddings, and parks. Jewelry Displays Neck displays, bracelet bars, trays, and small stands help customers visualize what they'll be wearing. People buy with their eyes first. Signage Simple signs explaining permanent jewelry, pricing, and available chain options answer common questions before customers even reach your table. Payment Processing A card reader connected to your phone is almost mandatory today. Very few people carry cash anymore. Business Essentials Don't forget the less glamorous items. - Business cards - Care instruction cards - Waivers - Cleaning cloths - Spare electrodes - Tool organizer - Small trash container These little things make appointments run much more smoothly. Stage 3. Luxury Upgrades After Your Business Starts Paying for Itself This is the fun category. None of these are necessary to get started, but they absolutely elevate the client experience once your revenue can support them. Premium Welder If you started with an entry-level or mid-range machine, upgrading to a flagship welder can provide even finer power adjustments, argon compatibility, and an even smoother welding experience. It's an investment I'd make after the business is consistently profitable, not before. Branded Event Setup - Custom tablecloth - Matching banners - Professional signs Everything begins to look like a polished luxury brand. Professional Lighting Battery-powered LED lighting makes a huge difference for evening markets and indoor venues with poor lighting. Luxury Display Furniture Instead of simple acrylic stands, upgrade to wood, stone, velvet, or leather displays that fit your brand aesthetic. Premium Seating Comfortable stools and stylish client chairs make longer appointments much more enjoyable. Tablet Checkout System Many established artists eventually switch from a phone to a dedicated tablet for checkout, scheduling, and digital waivers. It feels more professional and keeps everything organized. Marketing Equipment Once you've built a steady client base, you'll probably want equipment dedicated to creating content. Things like: - Ring lights - Tripods - Phone mounts - Portable backdrops - Small microphones Social media often becomes your biggest source of new customers. My Biggest Advice One mistake I see all the time is beginners trying to build the Stage 3 business before they've ever served their first client. You don't need the prettiest booth at the market to start making money. Start with equipment you can trust, earn revenue, and reinvest your profits. Every successful permanent jewelry artist I know has upgraded their setup over time instead of buying everything on day one. Your business should pay for its own growth. That approach keeps your risk low while allowing your setup to become more impressive with every successful event. submitted by /u/PermJewelryCenter to r/PermanentJewelryCentr [link] [comments]

Permanent Jewelry Start-up
I I am considering starting to do permanent jewelry. I am a barber and work in a salon/barber shop, I think that it would be a good way to fill some gaps. Also interested in some parties later on. What brand machine does anybody recommend and what are some good distributors for the chain? I’ve been looking into some startup kits, but unsure about the quality so I am looking for recommendations from professionals who have started and honest feedback on different types of machines and distributors. Thank you! submitted by /u/jsintheam to r/jewelry [link] [comments]

Permanent Jewelry
Posting on behalf of my wife and her permanent jewelry endeavors. She used to do it out of a store front but we moved recently to a smaller town and it’s more local/farmers market driven. We cannot find anywhere online the amount of power the permanent jewelry machine actually requires. Mainly looking so we can get a proper generator or power bank that can supply adequate power in case the location holding the event doesn’t have power. Unfortunately all I know is that’s it’s a Jupiter permanent jewelry welder, any help would be greatly appreciated. submitted by /u/Ba55ah0lic to r/jewelrymaking [link] [comments]

What You Really Need in a Permanent Jewelry Starter Kit (From an Artist Who’s Been There)
If you’re trying to figure out what a good permanent jewelry starter kit actually includes, here’s a simple way to think about it. Skip the fluff and focus on what you’ll truly use once you’re working on real clients. The Core Setup You Actually Need Pulse-arc welder This is the foundation of your service business. You want something consistent, easy to control, and comfortable to use during back-to-back clients. If your machine feels unpredictable, everything else becomes harder. The Zapp Plus 2 is all of that and more. It's affordable, reliable, and consistent during long events. Hand tools Precise, reliable tools make a bigger difference than most beginners expect. You’ll want: Cutters that give a smooth, clean edge Two pairs of needle nose pliers for holding and positioning A proper grounding option to complete your welds Cheap tools tend to slow you down fast and break down over time, especially at events. Chain and jump rings This is where many kits fall short. You want weld-safe, high-quality materials like sterling silver, gold-filled, or solid gold. Anything plated usually leads to tarnishing or breakage, which turns into unhappy customers and rework. Your table setup These are the small things that make your workflow smooth A safe work surface Basic organization for tools and chain A setup that feels clean and professional It may seem minor, but it changes how confident you feel when clients sit down. Training (don’t skip this) Knowing how to weld is one piece. Knowing how to price, book events, and handle clients is what actually makes money. If you want a free place to start learning, Permanent Jewelry Center has a lot of helpful information to get you moving in the right direction. If you want a bundled option Some kits are built more thoughtfully than others and can save you time piecing things together. A Zapp Plus 2 Starter Kit covers the essentials with a welder, core tools, and a setup that feels beginner-friendly without cutting corners. An Orion mPulse 2.0 Starter Kit leans more toward a premium setup, giving you more control and a more refined machine along with the tools to match. Quick gut check A good starter kit should let you sit down with a client and focus on the experience, not your equipment. If your setup feels smooth, reliable, and easy to work with, you’re already ahead of most beginners. submitted by /u/PermJewelryCenter to r/PermanentJewelryCentr [link] [comments]

What are your absolute MUST HAVES for doing permanent jewelry?
I’m not just talking about the obvious like a welder and chains. I mean the random things that ended up making a bigger difference than you expected… like that "luxury gel, booty-forming tush cushion that literally saved my bum during long events." 😅 What’s your version of that? The thing you didn’t think you’d need at first, but now you wouldn’t dare show up without. Could be a unique tool, conversation starter, comfort, setup, organization, client experience… anything. I know everyone has at least one. Let's hear about yours! submitted by /u/PermJewelryCenter to r/PermanentJewelryCentr [link] [comments]

Permanent jewelry welders feedback?
I'm getting tired of sending all my tiny jump rings out to get lasered closed and am flirting with a laser welder. I run a tiny operation (just me in a shed in the woods) and am mostly cleaning up and doing simple fabrication of wax-carved castings. Because of that I'm flirting with a permanent jewelry welder for the smaller footprint and lower cost, and after digging around this sub I'm considering: Helix PJ Welder Sunstone Zapp Plus 2 Orion mPulse PJ Welder Can anyone share their experiences with any of these? Have you noticed anything about the learning curve, or how efficiently they're able to tackle the job? What benefits would I be missing out on getting one of these vs. a more traditional welder (like an Orion or Tauweld benchtop)? TIA for any insights! submitted by /u/PlutoPlanetPower12 to r/Benchjewelers [link] [comments]

Can You Use A Soldering Iron For Permanent Jewelry
Soldering Iron Kits & Accessories: https://kunkune.co.uk/shop/category/soldering-iron-kits When it comes to crafting permanent jewelry, many artisans and DIY enthusiasts often wonder, "Can you use a soldering iron for permanent jewelry?" The answer is a resounding yes, but there are important factors and techniques to consider. Using a soldering iron for permanent jewelry can be a practical choice for creating pieces such as bracelets, necklaces, and earrings. The soldering process involves melting metal solder to join two pieces of jewelry securely, ensuring durability and longevity. This method is particularly suitable for metals such as copper, brass, and silver, which are commonly utilized in jewelry making. Here are some key points to remember when using a soldering iron for permanent jewelry: Select the Right Soldering Iron: For jewelry making, a precision soldering iron with a fine tip is ideal. This allows for greater control and helps you target specific areas without damaging the surrounding metal. Use Appropriate Solder: Choose a solder that is compatible with the base metal of your jewelry. Silver solder is often used for silver pieces, while other metals may require specific solders to achieve a strong bond. Prepare Your Workspace: Ensure your workspace is safe and organized. Use a heat-resistant surface and have appropriate safety gear such as goggles and gloves to protect yourself while soldering. Practice Precise Techniques: Master the technique of joining metal pieces securely to achieve a flawless finish. Practice on scrap pieces before working on your final project. In conclusion, using a soldering iron for permanent jewelry is not only feasible but can also result in stunning, long-lasting creations. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced jeweler, incorporating soldering into your crafting repertoire can elevate your designs and provide a professional finish. Would this kind of DIY permanent jewelry work in India?
I wanted to get some honest feedback before taking this idea further. The photo is just a concept shot on my own hand to show the idea. I’m exploring a DIY permanent jewelry kit where everything needed is included so two people can lock a bracelet on at home. It’s meant for couples, best friends, siblings, or a parent-child duo and designed to be worn long-term, not taken on and off. The plan is to use 925 sterling silver, with a few different chain styles since this is something people would wear every day. From a business and buyer point of view: -Would you see demand for something like this in India? -What price range would feel reasonable? -Any concerns you’d have with a DIY format? Not selling anything here, just trying to understand if this is worth building. submitted by /u/Jaded-Selection9145 to r/smallbusinessindia [link] [comments]

Permanent Jewelry Starter Kit Breakdown: What You ACTUALLY Need (From a Real PJ Artist & Trainer)
🧰 Permanent Jewelry Starter Kit: What You Actually Need (and What to Avoid) There are a lot of kits out there claiming to be “all-in-one,” but most of them are overpriced or include things you’ll never use. I’ve trained thousands of artists, and here’s what you really need to get started with permanent jewelry: ✅ Welder: My favorite is the Sunstone Zapp Plus 2.0 ✅ Pliers: You’ll need cutters, chain holders, and grounding pliers — Permanent Jewelry Bestie has the best in the industry ✅ Chain: This is where most kits fail. You want high-quality, weld-safe chain in sterling silver, gold-filled, or solid gold. Not plated. ✅ Jump rings: Quality is KEY. Use the same quality material as your chains , and a reliable table mat. ✅ Training: No kit is worth it without solid, business-minded training. You need to know how to price, sell, market, and protect your work. 👉 I offer full breakdowns, vetted chain suppliers, and kit tips — comment below or DM me if you're comparing options. submitted by /u/YourPJBestie to r/PermanentJewelryHub [link] [comments]

What You Actually Need to Start Doing Permanent Jewelry
You don’t need to buy some expensive online course to learn how to do permanent jewelry. There are a bunch of “I’ll teach you how to zap” programs charging crazy prices for info you can figure out with a little practice. Watch some videos, ask questions, try it a few times. You’ll get it. But don’t go buying the super cheap Amazon or Alibaba welder either. Yeah, some of them technically work. But the chance of the arc jumping and hitting a client? Not worth it. You’ll see real reviews where that actually happened. Stay far away. And you don’t need the $3,000 Sunstone with the microscope arm either. That’s just unnecessary. Just get a solid portable welder around $1,000 and a $30 headset magnifier. That setup will carry you through hundreds of events, no problem. You don’t have to go broke. You just have to be smart. submitted by /u/Muted_Appeal3580 to r/PermanentJewelryReps [link] [comments]

would this work for permanent jewelry?
I'm looking to start up a permanent jewelry business and i'm trying to figure out how to do it at events. Most events only allow 20amps of power to be used and that wouldn't work with a welder. submitted by /u/BeatPotential7058 to r/jewelrymaking [link] [comments]

Twisted off exhaust manifold bolt head on 5.3 #7 cylinder, no access to welder. Would a permanent threadlocker secure a nut?
Hey everyone, I am looking for recommendations for removing this bolt before I tear into it, please. As mentioned in the title this is the rearmost #7/drivers side exhaust manifold bolt on a 2015 Silverado 5.3. I was hoping the bolt was missing, but instead it turns out the former owner or whoever attempted to take this off twisted off the bolt head. All others came out with no issues, but had anti-seize on the threads instead of loctite— I’m assuming because of this issue. Unfortunately due to the curvature of the firewall there isn’t a ton of room, but I’m counting my lucky stars that it didn’t shear at the block. I have about 1/4” exposed. I don’t have access to a welder and there’s not enough room to get a two nuts on, so is it possible that red loctite or something like JB weld would secure a nut tight enough that I could back this out? I have repeatedly doused with PB blaster, scrubbed threads with a wire brush, and now have doused in a mixture of trans fluid and acetone (Dad’s mixture and insistence). Thanks! submitted by /u/mich_adventurer to r/MechanicAdvice [link] [comments]

Smallest argon gas cylinder and regulator for orion welder - what type?
Hi All, I hope this is the right place to post, I couldn't see anything about asking for advice in the rules! Please delete if not okay! I have just bought a Orion Mpulse 30 from someone, second hand. There is no argon gas bottle included so I will need to organise that, and a regulator separately. I am in the Uk so am looking for compatible and maybe slightly cheaper fittings. I have figured out that the product code for the original regulator from Sunstone welders (the orion manufacturer) is GF150-50-580. I am wondering if it has to be exactly the same, or if it can be different? I am also considering disposable canisters as space is quite limited, but my husband thinks it's not a good idea. I personally like it because it's small, and portable but I am not sure if it is worth just getting a slightly bigger, 'normal' bottle? I know that the disposable bottles need yet another type of fitting. I have seen sustone welders offer a 'mini' gas kit so I am not sure at all which is better, I am so clueless lol! What IS the smallest 'normal' argon gas bottle on the market in the UK anyway? I have seen some 1.5L but these were marked as diving canisters. What are your thoughts? Any advice on what I should buy is hugely appreciated!! Here are some links to show the type of product I am looking at: Link to orion mpulse 30:https://sunstonewelders.com/orion-mpulse-micro-tig-welder Link to the 'normal' regulator: https://sunstonewelders.com/argon-gas-regulator Link to the 'mini' cylinder: https://sunstonewelders.com/argon-mini-small-argon-tank-for-permanent-jewelry Link to 'mini' gas regulator:https://sunstonewelders.com/argon-mini-regulator submitted by /u/Royal_Secretary_7380 to r/metalworking [link] [comments]
