Need a self-cleaning litter box: small space, one cat, easy maintenance, and vacation-friendly
TL;DR: Looking for a compact self-cleaning litter box for one ~15 lb cat that will fit in a small space (23.5" in one direction), is easy to maintain/clean, works well when I’m away for a few days, and ideally has app tracking for weight and litter box usage. Currently considering Petkit Puramax 2, Petkit Purobot Max Pro 2, Neakasa M1 Plus, and Furrytail. Has anyone else tried these? I’m a very busy single-cat owner and I've been considering an automatic self cleaning litter box for some time now to help so that she'll always have a clean litterbox to use, especially if I'm not home for some time or go on vacation. My cat is ~15 lb and she's on a diet. Note that she's typically comfortable in enclosed and/or open spaces (her current litter box is actually enclosed). I’d still have a friend or family member check on her, top off litter, and change waste bags if needed. I think with the right self cleaning litter box, it would be a huge help to myself and my friends and family who check on her too. I have 23.5″ in one dimension available (not accounting for clearance that they require against walls) and much more space in the other direction (dimension). Height isn't a limiting factor. A small automatic litter box that fits in a small corner, easy to clean, and has app-based weight and usage tracking would be ideal and incredibly helpful. I've spent a lot of time researching — reading reviews, watching YouTube videos (including OneManFiveCats' coverage of dangerous self-cleaning boxes and his most recent recommendations). Despite all of that, I still haven't been able to settle on one, but I have narrowed options down based on my needs, so I'm hoping real-world experience can help me make a final decision. Based on the most recent reviews from OneManFiveCats, I'm leaning towards Petkit Puramax 2, Petkit Purobot Max Pro 2, Neakasa M1 Plus, and Furrytail. Has anyone here tried any of those (or another small auto-litter box) in a tight space? If so, which one? Do you recommend it? How much space is actually needed for it to run properly and smoothly? How frequently do you actually have to replace the waste bags and clean the machine? When you do need to deep clean it, is it easy to do so or is it difficult? Would you buy it again? submitted by /u/C0sm1cK1tt3n to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

Self Cleaning Litter Box Recs?
If you have or had a self cleaning litter box, what kind do you have (or have you had)? What model? Do you recommend it? How frequently do you actually have to replace the waste bags? How often does it actually need to be cleaned? When you do need to deep clean it, is it easy to do so or is it difficult? Is it good for really small spaces? Is it loud? If it can measure your cats weight and usage, is it accurate? Would you buy it again? What would you recommend for a single (15lb) cat on a diet? Something that fits in small spaces would be ideal. The ability to connect to an app and track at least weight and usage would be great. I'm leaning towards Furrytail, Petkit Puramax 2, Neakasa M1 Plus, and Petkit Purobot Max Pro 2, but I have been struggling to make a final decision because they all seem to have different advantages for what I'm seeking. Note I am also aware of the dangers of certain kinds of self cleaning litter boxes. submitted by /u/C0sm1cK1tt3n to r/Catownerhacks [link] [comments]

Self Cleaning Litterbox Recommendations for Small Spaces?
TL;DR: Need a self-cleaning litter box that fits in ~24" of space (not counting wall clearance), tracks weight/usage, for a single 15 lb cat. Currently considering Petkit Puramax 2, Neakasa M1 Plus, Meowant SC01, Catlink Open X, Furrytail, and Litter Robot EVO. Anyone with tight-space experience? I'm looking for an automatic self-cleaning litter box that fits in a small space, is reasonably easy to clean, and can track at least basic health metrics like weight and usage. Fair warning — this post is detailed because I think the specifics matter here. I've spent a lot of time researching — reading reviews, watching YouTube videos (including OneManFiveCats' coverage of dangerous self-cleaning boxes and his most recent recommendations), and going through posts on Facebook and Reddit. Despite all of that, I still haven't been able to settle on the right one for my situation. I have approximately 24–26 inches available in length (or width, depending on how I orient the box). That measurement does not account for any required clearance space away from walls or obstructions, which some models need. I might be able to rearrange a few things for a bit of extra room, but realistically, the smaller the footprint — or the less clearance required — the better. Height is not a limiting factor. Single cat household — one cat, ~15 lbs, currently on a diet. She's not huge but she is hefty, and she's used both open and enclosed litterbox before so I'm not too concerned about whether it's closed or open in terms of her preference. I'm sometimes away for a few days at a time, and I'm planning a week-long vacation in the future. I do have a friend who can check in periodically to replace waste bags and top off litter as needed. I'm absolutely willing to pay a higher upfront price for something that's high quality, reliable, and safe. Based on the most recent reviews from OneManFiveCats, I'm leaning towards Petkit Puramax 2, Neakasa M1 Plus, Meowant SC01, Catlink Open X, Furrytail, and Litter Robot EVO. If you have a self-cleaning litter box in a tight space, I'd really appreciate hearing which model you use and how it's worked out for you — especially anything about fit, clearance, ease of cleaning, functionality, weight and usage accuracy, safety, reliability, and app experience. Feel free to mention models outside my list too. submitted by /u/C0sm1cK1tt3n to r/technomeowcom [link] [comments]

Update: Purobot Max Pro 2 VS Purobot Ultra
Original post So we ended up getting the Purobot Ultra and two days into running it we absolutely love and feel we made the right choice. We love everything about it. Our cat fits perfectly in it and we love the app recording it. The external camera works incredibly well and so does the cleaning cycle. In fact it works so well with the Petkit tofu litter, that after a cleaning cycle, you can't even tell the cat was in there. Cat got used to the box in less than a couple of hours. There is zero smell and we just love all the features of the app. Set up was a breeze and took literally 10 minutes. The only feature we haven't used it is the automatic packing of the waste, so we're looking forward to using that when the waste bag is full. I still wonder how the Max Pro 2 would have worked, but we feel we made the right decisions. Our twin boys keep playing with the app and camera and shooting videos of themselves playing with it. :) I'm now thinking of getting Petkit's automatic feeder and fountain too. submitted by /u/guandalfthegray to r/PETKIT [link] [comments]

Guide: Is an Automatic Litter Box Right for your 2026 Spring Cleaning?
As everyone starts their spring cleaning for 2026, many of you are asking if switching to an automatic litter box actually helps with behavior and health tracking. These models are highly effective at keeping your home fresh, but the real advice is to choose one that fits your cat’s size and safety needs. If you are looking for a way to automate your chores this spring, I have fact-checked the specs on the current top-rated options to see which ones offer the best balance of safety and smart prices. Here is a breakdown of what is available for different needs: Best for Multi-Cat Safety: Neakasa M1 Plus Bundle – Great for larger cats (up to 33 lbs) because of the open-top design. It uses a 6-array infrared system to ensure the cycle stops if a cat approach, for $399.98. Best for Health Monitoring: CATLINK 2025 Upgrade – This is helpful for advice-seekers because the AI camera tracks waste consistency and weight, which can alert you to health issues early, for $329.96. Best for Odor Control: Furbulous True Odor-Free – This upgraded model is the first to automatically pack and seal the waste bag, which is a game-changer for spring odor management, for $319.99. Best for Small Spaces: PETKIT PuraMax 2 – Features a compact 76L cylinder and a low entrance, making it a good choice for senior cats or those with mobility issues, for $282. Best Budget Option: PARUUNTYS Open Top – If you want an unbeatable price to test if your cat likes automation, this simple open-top design is less intimidating for nervous cats, for $149.98. Reliable Mid-Range: Fumoi & Cumrige Models – Both offer app control and large waste capacities (up to 15L), making them solid choices for owners who travel for short weekend trips, for $199.97 - $199.98. reference - https://x.com/HelpMeFindDeals/status/2028973594471219286 Advice for the Transition: I always recommend leaving the new box unplugged next to the old one for at least a week. Sprinkle some of their old litter inside so it smells familiar. What has your experience been with these? Are you planning a spring upgrade for your setup, or do you prefer the old-school manual scoop for health monitoring? I look forward to hearing your tips on helping cats adjust to the noise of a cleaning cycle! Thank you. submitted by /u/hjf25 to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

Cat Parents, Have You Tried the Petkit Purobot Ultra?
If you’re a cat parent, you know the struggle: litter boxes are messy, smelly, and basically demand daily attention. That’s where the Petkit Purobot Ultra comes in. It’s not just a litter box, it’s more like a high-tech cat assistant. Out of the box, it’s big and solid, so it’s clear this thing is built to last. Setup is fairly simple, and connecting it to the PETKIT app means you can monitor and control it right from your phone. Just make sure you have enough space for it, because it’s definitely a statement piece in your home. The smartest part of the Purobot Ultra is the AI camera. It can recognize which cat is visiting, snap photos after each use, and even alert you if something seems off, like unusual stool or signs that your cat might be sick. Basically, it’s a tiny health monitor built into your litter box. That said, the AI isn’t perfect. Sometimes it mixes up cats, and some of the fancier features require a subscription. Still, it’s a neat way to get a little extra insight into your cat’s health without scheduling a vet visit every week. If you want a more detailed breakdown of all its features, I highly recommend checking out this TechnoMEOW review https://technomeow.com/petkit-purobot-ultra . It does a great job explaining the AI health monitoring, app integration, and hands-off cleaning in a way that’s easy to understand. And let’s talk about hands-off cleaning. This is where the Purobot really shines. After your cat does their business, the box cleans itself, packs the waste into a sealed bag, and gets ready for the next visit. For a single cat, you can go up to 20 days without scooping, which is basically a dream come true. The sealed waste bags and odor control system do a great job keeping the smell under wraps, and the box even has sensors that stop cleaning if a cat is too close, so you don’t have to worry about any accidents. Of course, there are a few things to keep in mind. You’ll need to use Petkit’s proprietary refill rings and bags. Generic ones won’t work, and some of the AI features, like full health tracking and camera playback, are behind a subscription. A few owners have also reported mechanical glitches or sensors acting up, though experiences vary. All that said, the Purobot Ultra is perfect for multi-cat households or tech-loving cat parents who want convenience and insight into their cat’s health. If you just want a simple scoop-free box without all the gadgets, it might feel a little overkill. But if you love gadgets, hate daily scooping, and want a litter box that actually does more than just hold litter, the Purobot Ultra is definitely worth checking out. It’s hands-off, high-tech, and kind of like a smart assistant that actually gets your cat. What do you think? Have you tried the Petkit Purobot Ultra, or do you use a different smart litter box? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences. submitted by /u/Happy_Hat6789 to r/technomeowcom [link] [comments]

PETKIT IS TERRIBLE
Their litter robots MIGHT work well in a single cat household for 6 months. Beyond that - it’s trash. It’s more of a pain in the ass than anything. It’s constantly stuck saying a cat is nearby. No matter how clean the sensors are. Even after the cats have gone in and out 10 times, it doesn’t circulate and clean. The bags suck. Amazon sells way better ones. Any time I’ve ever reached out to Petkit for support, they’re unhelpful and slow (and that’s IF they respond). Do not buy one! The ONLY reason I still TRY to use mine is because it cost a fortune. It’s such a piece of crap machine. submitted by /u/EnvironmentalBet3860 to r/PETKIT [link] [comments]

Affordable litter recommendations for Pura Max 2 (UK)
Hi everyone! I’m looking for an affordable litter that works well with the Pura Max 2. I tried the Petkit litter for a few days but with three cats it was really expensive, two bags only lasted about a month. I then switched to Cats Best because someone recommended it, but honestly it’s so messy and sticks to the litter mat a lot and I hate it. I’m after a budget friendly litter that doesn’t stick everywhere and works well with the Pura Max 2. What litter do you all use? I’m based in the UK, so UK recommendations would be great! Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/CommunityValuable638 to r/PETKIT [link] [comments]

1/10 would not recommend
I really wanted to like this. We have had a Petkit Pura X since 2021. Both of our cats are senior age so we were looking for an option with lower and open entry to make it easier for them. We ordered the Popur S7 in late October with expected delivery in early December. From reading the posts here, I understand they had a shipping delay. Because of the concerns I read on here, I tried to cancel the order before it shipped. They offered to add on 30 trash bags for free if we keep the order among other promises about the features. We decided to wait for it to actually arrive and try it out. We were on holiday vacation when I got the email that our S7 arrived. It was Dec 30 and nobody was home. We had a pet sitter and I was going to have her bring it in the next day, but our Ring camera caught someone stealing it. I sent the footage to Popur and they offered to send a replacement (no extra trash bags included lol). I appreciate that at least they do respond to my emails so far. However, we really don't like it. Setting it up was frustrating. App couldn't find the box for 20+ minutes. I tried. My partner tried. We redownloaded the app. We did a factory reset on the box four times. At one point, holding down the bin button like the app said to do caused the waste bin lid to flap up and down endlessly. It would be funny if it wasn't making me want to pull my hairs out. Finally, after it found the box to pair, the firmware update took 30 minutes before the box was ready to work. Is that the worst? No. But in contrast, setting up the Pura X took less than 5 minutes and the app has never given me any issues since then. The litter tray is small but the box takes up so much space. The liner has seams that will become stained with urine and impossible to clean out. We ordered the ramp and it's a piece of crap - doesn't conform to the edge of the box and slides around. We also ordered a wider sifter (10mm) because we use tofu litter - it has not arrived yet. We have the S7 set up next to the Pura X so the cats can get used to it. Did a test cycle to watch it run. It doesn't level out the litter, it's comically bad. It also gets a bunch of litter trapped behind the rake. With only clean and low dust litter, so much got trapped along the edges of the tray (see the photos). And it's loud. We had everything turned off but later in the evening, we heard the S7 cycle, this time dumping a large amount of clean litter into the waste bin. I know the sifter is not suitable for our tofu litter grains so I'm not surprised. I'm not sure why it ran since the cats hadn't used it, but it scared us and I have the box unplugged since then. Overall, there are just too many kinks they need to work out. Especially when they don't have all the parts they advertised on the Kickstarter available and not all the app features are functional. They shouldn't have made this available to the public yet. There is potential but it's too early to tell if the flaws will be resolved. We are definitely returning it. submitted by /u/borritokwokamole to r/popurlitterbox [link] [comments]

Is the PETKIT brand litter really worth the extra money?
TLDR: 2 mostly indoor cats. Have to pack/empty and refill litter approx every 5 days with Costco Scoop Away litter. Is the PETKIT litter (or another tofu/natural type litter) worth the extra money? If so, which brand gets you the most bang for you buck? I am located in California and have two mostly indoor (especially this time of year) adult cats that use their litter box an average of 7-8 times a day total between the two of them. I have been using the Scoop Away clumping litter from Costco in their Purobot Ultra. I seem to have to pack, empty the bag and refill with almost an entire bag (one of the 4 total small bags that come in the Costco pack) about every 5 days. I also have to deep clean pretty regularly as there are a lot of litter smears inside of the barrel and have to frequently vacuum LOTS of tracked litter. We switched from the Litter Robot 3 about 6 months ago after it finally started malfunctioning almost daily, and chose the Purobot Ultra mainly because of the claims of only having to be emptied every 20 days for a single cat (therefore theoretically every 10 for 2 cats). My eldest cat child (who we joke is my true first born son vs. my two human boys) is now 12, hates being confined to the house despite following me around like a shadow 98% of the time due to his separation anxiety and suspected short term memory loss, and has somewhat recently been put on a urinary health diet by the vet. He’s very much embracing his grumpy old man persona these days, so I’d also consider spending more on litter if it will help him to be a little less grumpy. I have continued using the Scoop Away litter mainly due to cost, but am willing to shell out more money on litter if it will really make that much difference. submitted by /u/Dizzy_Card_8107 to r/PETKIT [link] [comments]

Advice about my cat
I’m worried about these bald spots on the back of my cats legs. Does it warrant a visit? I was looking back on a video from when I got her and she had them then but they were a lot less pronounced. I would say they can come and go a little bit in how well you can see them. I think even here one side is more pronounced than the other. I think because of this fluctuation and gradual nature, it didn’t worry me, but after a year I’m a little nervous. From my research my best guess is over-grooming, based on my observations of her. But I wanna know if you would recommend someone take their cat in for this issue. There doesn’t appear to be any sores or weirdness with her skin. Background: My cat is approximately 3 years old, lilac point Siamese. I say approximately because I adopted her from a shelter last year and they said she was 2 years old. When she got to the shelter she had a litter of 8 week old kittens who she was immediately separated from. She was a stray when she got to the shelter, she is an indoor only cat now, doesn’t even like to go outside or leave the house at all. At the beginning I had a hard time getting her to eat. She started refusing wet food, to this day she really only like the shreds of chicken in a can type food, she really loved churu chowders but it’s hard to find them and I don’t think they qualify as “wet food”. When I tried different dry foods she really like blue buffalo(adult indoor cat) so I stuck with that. But I wanted to feed her better, I tried freshpet (I got sold on the idea of “fresh” food like that being better), but we got like one bag of the cat food and two logs in and I found out how bad it was, so I immediately took her off it. She went back to blue buffalo. I wanted to still try something better but I wasn’t able to put my money towards options like Hill’s Science Diet yet. I tried Nutrish, she hates it. I have some Hill’s coming in the mail now. Overall she’s a super chill cat, playful and full of energy at times but mostly just snuggly and sweet. Extremely inquisitive, she loves to see what I’m doing especially in the kitchen. I don’t restrict her at all, since the apartment is her whole world, I don’t think it’s fair to restrict where she goes, I can wipe the counter down again it’s not a big deal. I would say she lives a relatively normal life for a cat. I use Petkit brand litter, it’s like a 5 in 1 type of litter, mostly tofu I think, I wanted something more environmentally friendly and it seemed to have good reviews compared to other litter. submitted by /u/CuriousGlove666 to r/AskAVeterinarian [link] [comments]

Don't waste your money on a petkit ultra. It's supposed to suck the bags down and auto pack. Support tells me to just stick my hand in the poop bag because their product doesn't work.
No help from support what so ever. Don't waste a thousand dollars on a litter box. I've sent multiple videos to them to confirm that this is an issue and they say it's not. Just stick your hand in cat poop lol. submitted by /u/burner212345 to r/PETKIT [link] [comments]

5 Best Self-Cleaning Litter Boxes for Cats in 2025
Cleaning the litter box is every cat parent’s least favorite chore but thanks to self-cleaning litter box technology, it no longer has to be. Automatic litter boxes save time, control odor, and keep your home fresher. Over the past two years, I’ve tested more than 20 models to find out which ones are actually worth your money. After all that research, here are my top five picks for the best self-cleaning litter boxes in 2025. 1. Litter-Robot 4 – Best Overall Whisker’s Litter-Robot 4 is still the gold standard for self-cleaning litter boxes. It offers: QuietSift™ technology for quieter cycles. SmartScale™ weight tracking to monitor your cat’s health. Real-time litter and waste level monitoring through the Whisker app. A sleek, compact design that blends into most homes. I’ve used mine for over 10 months with three cats, and it’s been reliable with only a minor part issue—quickly fixed thanks to Whisker’s excellent U.S.-based customer support. While pricey at $699, the reliability, features, and warranty make it worth it. 2. PetSafe ScoopFree SmartSpin – Best Value The PetSafe ScoopFree SmartSpin impressed me with its balance of features and affordability. For $399, you get: App tracking of weight and usage patterns. Sealed waste bin for 4x better odor control. A stylish, low-profile design with faux-wood legs. Easy assembly with eco-friendly packaging. The waste drawer holds up to two weeks of clumps, and it runs nearly silent. The only downsides are the recurring deodorizer costs and the slightly elevated entry, which may be tough for older cats. 3. Petkit PuraMax 2 – Best for Small Spaces The PuraMax 2 is a sleek alternative to bulkier litter robots. Standout features include: Dual Wi-Fi support (2.4GHz & 5GHz). Triple odor control with gel packs and sprays. Weight, visit duration, and frequency tracking. Quiet operation and smooth app setup. It’s more compact than the Litter-Robot, making it great for apartments. The only drawbacks are occasional sensor hiccups and liners that don’t always fit snugly. 4. PetSnowy SNOW+ – Best Design The SNOW+ by PetSnowy is one of the most stylish options available. It offers: Ultra-quiet cleaning cycles (53dB). A curved anti-tracking walkway. 6 stages of safety sensors for cat protection. Remote monitoring via the SNOW+ app. The main drawback is cost. Bags and parts are proprietary and add up quickly. Still, if aesthetics and quiet performance are top priorities, it’s worth considering. 5. CATLINK Scooper Luxury Pro-X – Best for Multi-Cat Homes The CATLINK Pro-X shines for households with multiple cats thanks to its: Weight recognition system that identifies each cat. App tracking for usage, litter levels, and humidity. Triple odor removal system. Sleek, modern footprint. Setup takes less than 20 minutes, though Wi-Fi pairing can be finicky at first. The higher entry may require a ramp for senior cats, but once running, it’s accurate and effective. Final Thoughts After months of testing, the Litter-Robot 4 still takes the crown as the most dependable, feature-packed self-cleaning litter box in 2025. That said, options like the PetSafe SmartSpin and Petkit PuraMax 2 provide excellent performance at lower prices, while PetSnowy SNOW+ and CATLINK Pro-X bring stylish, innovative alternatives. Whichever model you choose, you’ll save time, reduce odor, and gain peace of mind which gives you more quality moments with your cat instead of scooping after them. submitted by /u/Junior_Cut4025 to r/technomeowcom [link] [comments]

Considering litter robot
Thinking of switching over from my petkit puramax to the litter robot, but am a little concerned the actual pee area looks a little small. Also am curious how expensive the upkeep is (e.g., the specific garbage bags, replacing the liner or something equivalent). i have two cats, but one is a bit on the bigger side and just want to make sure he’s gonna have enough space to do his thing. have attached cat tax, appreciate any advice! submitted by /u/Impressive_Theme_322 to r/litterrobot [link] [comments]

Litter Robot vs Purobot: 5 month follow-up
When I was researching litter robots earlier this year, I narrowed my choices down to the Litter Robot 4 and PetKit Purobot Max Pro, which are two top models recommended by some professional reviewers. I ended up going with the Purobot. Now that we’ve lived with the Purobot for several months, I thought I'd do a follow-up post and see if I made a good decision or not. I apologize in advance for the length of this post, but I wish I had known some of these details when I was doing my original research. CLEANING My biggest complaint about the Purobot is how hard it is to clean. I knew that it was going to be a little more difficult to reach all areas of the drum because of its unusual “corkscrew” shape. But I wasn’t prepared for how quickly it would get dirty and how often I would have to deep clean it. The first problem is how the waste gets to the waste drawer. In the LR4, the waste rolls over the litter sifter then simply drops into the drawer. In the Purobot, the waste takes a longer journey: it rolls over the sifter, drops several inches into the chute portion of the drum, then slides around the chute before being deposited in the waste drawer. Because of the longer distance that the waste travels and the jostling that occurs, the interior of the Purobot gets much dirtier than the LR4. Now, the bigger problem: the Purobot has a removable fabric litter pad that fits in a groove inside the Purobot drum. If your cat does their business near the edge of the litter, the waste gets stuck on the edge of the pad and inside the groove. The only way to clean that area is to do a deep clean: empty the litter, remove the drum, take out the litter pad and clean everything. Because of the Purobot’s enclosed drum and the size of our cats (Bengals), they did this several times. Having to deep clean whenever that happened got old very quickly. Even if you don’t have to do a deep clean, spot cleaning the Purobot is still a chore. The hard plastic interior has multiple edges, seams and protrusions that are difficult to clean. And you have to reach pretty far in to clean the entire chute. The LR4 is much easier to spot clean because the interior of the globe/liner is smooth and accessible. Side note: emptying the litter from the Purobot is a long process. You have to attach a plastic shield to the litter sifter, then the machine has to rotate back and forth multiple times while it moves the litter to the drawer. But the shield doesn’t collect all of the litter so there’s always some left in the drum. By comparison, emptying the litter from the LR4 is incredibly easy: the globe simply rotates the opposite direction and all of the litter drops into the drawer. ODOR RETENTION One of my biggest concerns when researching litter robots was odor retention. With the LR4, I didn’t love that the waste drawer was exposed to the open air every time the machine cycled. I thought that the Purobot would be better in this regard because its waste drawer is more enclosed and it has a built-in deodorizer. But I later discovered (through the power of magnets!) that the Purobot’s waste drawer opens at the very start of the cycle and remains open for the entire 2-minute cycle. That’s a long time and there’s a gap between the cover and the rotating drum that allows the odors to escape. With the LR4, the waste drawer is only open for about 30 seconds when it cycles (i.e. one quarter of the time the Purobot takes). Honestly, I don’t think either robot does a great job at odor retention. We tried putting both the LR4 and Purobot in our main bathroom. The bathroom fan was on a timer so it would run every 15 minutes. Even with that, we still got that musty litter smell in our hallway. Eventually, we had to move the machine to a downstairs room, which turned out to be a much better location. I’ve heard of people placing their litter robot in their living room. They must have some of those high-tech, odor-free cats because that would never work for us. In my opinion, if odor retention is your primary concern, don’t buy a litter robot. I would instead get an enclosed litter box that you empty once or twice a day, along with the latest Litter Genie. We used that setup in our main bathroom with no problems (other than having to constantly empty the litter box). CONTROLS The controls on the Purobot are very finicky. They’re low on the machine so you have to bend/kneel down to use them and the buttons often don’t work. Whenever you add litter to the Purobot, you have to double-click the OK button to reset the weight. But there’s some problem with the buttons or the software: I usually had to hit the button about 6 times before it would actually register. I emailed PetKit about this problem, but they couldn’t offer any solution other than to the “clean the sensors”, etc. The buttons on the LR4 are much easier to use. APP The Whisker iPhone app looks much better than the Purobot version. But the Purobot app has one advantage: you can choose your own “cycle delay”. Whisker only supports a few predetermined delays such as 7 minutes or 15 minutes (with nothing in between). I was using 10 minutes on the Purobot, but went with 15 minutes on the LR4 (with two cats). I think the 15 minute delay has actually helped keep the LR4 cleaner, so I guess I can’t complain too much (though it would still be nice to let the user choose their own delay). CAMERA/SENSOR The Purobot has a camera on the inside of the drum. We used it a lot when we first installed the Purobot, but stopped checking it after a while (especially since PetKit charges a subscription to store longer video clips). PetKit markets it as a way to check waste for health problems, but you can’t see enough detail in the video, so that’s a bit of a gimmick. Still, a camera can be useful to see if/how your cats are using the bot. One LR4 feature I find legitimately useful is the waste sensor: you can check how full the waste drawer is via the app. STEP/RAMP We bought PetKit’s step stool for the Purobot — not because our cats need help, but because it encourages them to step out of the machine like a civilized cat, rather than leaping out like a crazy person and spreading litter everywhere. The step stool does an OK job of collecting litter from their paws, but it doesn’t fit through the Purobot’s smaller opening which is mildly annoying. The LR4 has an available ramp that collects much of the litter that would normally end up on the ground. You can easily deposit that litter back into the machine by simply lifting up the front of the ramp. The LR4 ramp has another advantage: it provides a place for your cat to put their paws. When our Bengals use the bot, they usually face out of the globe and put their front paws on the ramp. That keeps their butt centered over the litter bed, which prevents those edge messes we ran into with the Purobot. FYI, our cats are 9 months (12 lbs) and 1 year (14 lbs) and have long bodies. I think the ramp definitely helps with bigger cats. https://preview.redd.it/yxxljurxmxdf1.jpg?width=724&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=246e86890ec0f9bd20a863b6bbaa29cdcaa6c94b BAGS The Purobot has a special drawer design that lets you pull the bag drawstring closed before opening the drawer. I initially listed that as one of Purobot’s advantages. But after dealing with it for several months, I’ve changed my mind. In reality, it doesn’t do much to contain the odor when changing the bag. And it makes installing in a new bag very fiddly. You have to carefully fold the edges of the bag over the top of the drawer, then feed the drawstring through a clip that holds it. It’s kind of a pain. Changing the bag on the LR4 takes a fraction of the time. CONCLUSION In case it wasn’t obvious, we’ve switched from the Purobot to the Litter Robot 4. I’m much happier with the LR4. It does cost more than the Purobot, but it seems to be a better overall design. And not having to constantly clean the machine is definitely worth the extra expense. We bought the Litter Robot 4 bundle from Costco. It costs $100 more than the regular LR4, but you get a 3-year warranty (which is worth $100 by itself), 100 replacement bags, odor traps, a litter mat, and the ramp. We also bought the Litter Hopper which a nice addition and eliminates the need to constantly top off the litter. Congratulations if you read this post all the way to the end! I hope it’s useful to someone. submitted by /u/Novel-Builder8868 to r/litterrobot [link] [comments]

Update to cat eating waste liner
I couldn’t figure out how to edit my other post. I tried compostable bags and she still managed to eat them. I don’t love the idea of using the tray without a bag since the LR is in my toddler’s bedroom closet. I am trying an aluminum tray this weekend. I am so sad yall. I love the LR4 and I have two of them. Although I will say LR4 has been a little finicky but I suspect it’s because she’s always interrupting the cycle trying to get to the bag. For now, I think I may have to go back to using a regular litter box or possibly look into a PETKIT. Does anyone have a PETKIT that can give me some perspective? submitted by /u/Ok-Suit6589 to r/litterrobot [link] [comments]

Petkit Purobot Ultra vs Litter-Robot 4
We've had the Litter-Robot 4 for a couple of days. I like everything about it except for the fact that the waste drawer is open to the air for several seconds every time the unit cycles. That seems (and smells) like a problem. I think the ideal litter robot would be designed like a Litter Genie: the waste gets deposited in an "airlock", which then closes and the waste drops into the main compartment. That would minimize the waste compartment's exposure to outside air. Here's our setup: we have two Bengal cats and the LR4 is in a bathroom (with a fan that runs for a few minutes every hour). We're using Boxie Probiotic cat litter with some Ammosorb mixed in. The LR4 carbon filter is installed, but I also sprinkled some charcoal in the litter bag. Even with all of that, I still get a a good whiff of odor when the LR4 cycles. Because of that, I did some research on other litter robots. I think the closest competitor is the new Petkit Purobot Ultra. Here are some of the differences: The Purobot waste compartment is more enclosed (it's separated from the globe with auto-opening/closing doors). That should help contain the smell better. The Purobot automatically seals and cuts the waste bag when it needs to be changed. So you're not blasted with a drawer full of waste when you change the bag. The Purobot waste capacity is larger (they claim the bag can be changed every 20 days for one cat). LR4 can use regular garbage bags. Purobot requires a special refill "ring". A 3-pack of rings costs $33 ($11 each) and one ring is supposed to last around 3.5-5 months for one cat. LR4 has the optional LitterHopper, which seems like a great idea (although I haven't tested it). Purobot includes a camera and "AI" features that require a paid subscription. But I wouldn't even install the camera since our robot is located in a bathroom (no need to watch both humans and cats doing their business). Purobot dimensions: 20 x 32 x 24 inches (WDH). LR4 dimensions: 22 x 27 x 29.5 inches (WDH). Purobot's footprint is only 13% larger than LR4 and it's actually 5" shorter, but the design makes it feel significantly larger. If you add the optional ramp, the LR4 depth (front to back) increases to 37" (5" more than the Purobot). The ramp does help contain tracked litter if the cats use it. LR4 has a larger entryway, which is probably better for some cats and makes cleaning easier. The Purobot's entry is 2" lower than the LR4 (more if you install the LR4's fence). Purobot has a replaceable waterproof "litter pad". I've read that the LR4's rubber liner can start retaining odors after time(?) Purobot has more moving parts (more things that can break). The LR4 is $700. The Purobot is $800 (on sale). But LR4 has a bunch of accessories that can increase the price (we paid $800 for the Costco bundle). The Litter Robot has been around for 25 years; Petkit is 12 years old. LR4 has an optional 3-year warranty for $100. If you use the right credit card, you can extend that to 5 years. Purobot has 1-year warranty (2 years with a credit card extended warranty). LR4 has 2-3 month free trial and is available through local stores like Petsmart and Costco. Purobot has 1 month return policy (but you have to pay return shipping). My conclusion: I'm mainly interested in the Purobot's odor control features and it seems to have some clear advantages over the LR4. Has anyone directly compared the Purobot Ultra with the Litter Robot 4? Are there any other considerations we should be aware of? submitted by /u/Novel-Builder8868 to r/litterrobot [link] [comments]
