Loving Mat Pilates--it's kicking my ass more than reformer
When I started Pilates 2 1/2 years ago, I first tried Move with Nicole's Youtube beginner classes (which were already super hard for me back then) and paired them with in-person reformer pilates classes. I eventually moved overseas where I found reformer pilates even more challenging, and I supplemented my once a week in-person reformer classes with Nicole's beginner mat videos--even then sabi ko tama na ang beginner classes niya, they were challenging enough for me (since I'd come home from reformer class sore anyway). I've since returned to the Philippines and I decided to step away from studio classes after a few so-so and negative experiences (either classes that weren't challenging enough for my liking, or mataray instructors who weren't too encouraging, or fusion classes that didn't exactly feel like pilates, or entitled influencer types). I wanted more of a challenge too, and I've heard it said that mat pilates is tougher. To challenge myself, I started doing Move with Nicole's moderate level classes and Flow with Mira's intermediate classes (all free on YouTube). Ooohh despite my "challenging" reformer training abroad, both Nicole and Mira are kicking my ass. As a caveat, I would still recommend in-person classes to those starting out, with a certified instructor who can correct your form. But as someone who has been doing in-class reformer pilates for a while, I feel confident enough in my form to follow these online mat classes. It's just funny na andaming sumisipot sa Pilipinas na expensive gimmicks to "elevate" one's pilates practice, like heated reformer chorva etc, when all you need to get a proper ass-kicking is a Move with Nicole YouTube mat class that is completely FREE. I find also find her cues very clear and easy to follow, and sa totoo lang mas mabait at positive siya than a lot of the in-person teachers I've had sa Pinas. Siyempre it won't work for the clout-chasing folks who want to film themselves doing reformer pilates in a chic studio, but for those who just want to elevate their practice, all you really need is a mat and enough space in your living room/bedroom to follow these YouTube videos. Dumbbells and resistance bands are optional but not required, and you can get them from any sporting goods store. I used to be one of those silly people who thought that mat pilates was the "lesser" pilates because it used little to no equipment, but it has since humbled me--you need good form and a strong core to get through class, and the reformer isn't there to support you and make things easier. And the more you practice, the easier it gets! Even if you have no plans to abandon your reformer class, a teacher I used to have abroad said that mat work will make you better at reformer work (and she didn't frown upon free classes on YouTube, habang tinataasan ng kilay ng isang teacher ko sa Pinas lol). May mga in-person mat classes in case you like the social aspect of it and would still like a teacher present to correct your form, but unfortunately they're not as popular as reformer classes. I no longer take reformer classes but I do moderate-intermediate mat pilates 3x a week (alternating with cardio workouts), and strangely enough I feel stronger and fitter than when I was just doing reformer at the studio + beginner mat at home. I'm even losing weight! I also plan to try other YouTube pilates teachers to see what else is out there--balak kong i-try si Lottie Murphy based on recs from the /pilates subreddit. If you have favorite pilates apps or YouTube teachers, feel free to drop their names here! Favorite ko pa rin si Move with Nicole--her cues are so clear, I don't have to look at the screen all the time to know what I'm doing, and her videos are very well produced and easy to follow. Anyway, don't despair if you either can't afford reformer pilates anymore, or di mo type yung mga studios in your area, or tag-ulan na at mahirap nang mag commute to the nearest studio. Don't give up on pilates, andami niyang benefits even if you get it via chipipay YouTube. submitted by /u/That_Tale_44 to r/PilatesPhilippines [link] [comments]

wtf are these "digital pilates reformer" studios with no teacher??
one just opened near me in paris. no instructor. just screens and an app. you follow along on a tablet, nobody corrects your form, nobody checks your springs. it's basically a fancy gym with reformers and a screen. am i the only one who thinks this is kind of insane? bad form on a reformer can genuinely hurt you, especially beginners. and honestly what even is the point of pilates without real instruction? i'm working on opening my own small studio and seeing this made me feel some type of way. like is the industry really going toward cheap and automated? please tell me this is just a weird trend and not the future lol submitted by /u/Minute_Energy1861 to r/pilatesinstructors [link] [comments]

[TW] Hilary Duff: Through "Thick and Thin"
This example is a blatant promotion of disordered eating. Hilary herself had an eating disorder, so it’s hard to see her size referred to and her weight listed like this. It wouldn’t have been good for her, nor would it have been good for women and girls who compared themselves to her. Then, the actual diet. [TW] This diet comes to 1,108 calories, which is well below the amount of calories adult women should have, especially active adult women. If people are dieting to lose weight they should have a healthy calorie deficit, but this example fits into a larger pattern of disordered eating. She doesn’t have weight to lose! There’s also no mention of health or nutrition. The normalisation of adult women eating just over 1k calories a day is terrifying! Then to promote that degree of exercise on top of that! I can’t find exactly when this example is from but I think 2006. submitted by /u/AdrianaLaServing to r/WhyWereWeOkWithThis [link] [comments]

Első sorban pörgősebb órákra építeném fel a studiót. Pl.: HIIT reformer óra, Hot talaj pilates, Erősítő órák, Jumpboard reformer. Szerintetek erre mennyire lenne igény Debrecenben? Milyen megéléseitek vannak ezekkel az órákkal kapcsolatban? Illetve mennyire találjátok fontosnak, hogy a studio gyerek és állatbarát legyen, illetve SZÉP kártya elfogadóhely. Reformer or Mat Pilates? Which do you prefer...
Hello Ridgewood!! I just wanted to get some feedback on a potential wellness/pilates studio my partner and I are opening up in Ridgewood. We are both ridgewood natives (born and raised) who are about to embark on this new business venture. We are currently sub teachers, in the beginning stages of opening the studio. The first and most important question is; what form of Pilates does our community prefer, Mat or reformers? Or maybe a little bit of both? Please give us any important feedback!! submitted by /u/Acceptable_Delay4068 to r/ridgewood [link] [comments]

Pilates instructors... how much are you getting paid for mat vs reformer classes in 2026?
Hi everyone, I’m starting at a new studio and just want to get a sense of what’s actually normal out there. If you’re open to sharing: How much are you getting paid per class? Do you get paid differently for mat vs reformer? What type of classes are you teaching? (classical/contemp mat, hot mat, sculpt, reformer, Xformer, etc.) Are you paid a flat rate, hourly, or does it depend on class size? Where are you located? I’ve heard reformer can pay more, but I’m not sure if that’s consistent or just depends on the studio. I’d really appreciate any insight. I feel like more transparency around pay just helps everyone move smarter 🤍 THANK YOU! submitted by /u/Flimsy-Percentage-76 to r/pilates [link] [comments]

Spending $40 a week on Pilates classes is killing me. Anyone bought a home reformer instead?
ok so I've been going to reformer Pilates classes for a few months now and honestly I love it. my back hurts less, I feel stronger, all that good stuff. but heres the thing – Im paying like $35-40 per class. sometimes I go twice a week. thats like $300 a month just on one workout. and thats before my regular gym membership.I cant keep doing this forever. so I'm thinking about just buying a reformer for my apartment. one upfront cost and then no more class fees. seems smart right? but I have no idea what Im looking at. some machines are like $500 and look like theyll fall apart. others are $5000+ and thats way out of my budget. I've been reading about the whole megaformer vs reformer thing and it's confusing – some machines are for classical Pilates (slower, more rehab focused) and others are for strength/cardio (Lagree style). I just want something solid that wont break. for anyone in Australia who's done this - where did you buy from? local or shipped from overseas? what did you pay and was it worth it? did you use it or did it become a clothes rack? I'm in a small apartment so I need something that can fold or at least not take up the whole room. but I also dont want junk that wobbles when I do planks. honestly at this point Im tempted to just keep paying for classes because at least I know it works. but my wallet is crying. someone talk some sense into me please. any advice from frugal Aussies who've been down this road? submitted by /u/naenae0402 to r/AUfrugal [link] [comments]

Girlies I am so excited to say I finally got my own pink at-home Pilates reformer!!🥹🎀
I want to be completely transparent: this reformer was gifted to me, and that’s entirely because of you!! This community has opened doors I never imagined, but more importantly, it’s given me real friendships and a true sense of sisterhood & I don’t take that lightly at all 🥹💞 With that said, I would never share or promote something I didn’t genuinely love. I’ve been using this reformer for over two weeks now, and it’s been SO hard to keep it a secret because I’m actually obsessed 😭🫶🏻 For the longest time owning a reformer felt unrealistic for me because of limited space and financial constraints, it just didn’t seem possible. So having this reformer literally feels like a dream come true!! If you’ve ever wanted a reformer of your own but felt held back for similar reasons, you can get the Pavo Fitness at-home reformer for 40% off on Kickstarter using my link (limited time offer): https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pavofitness/intelligent-foldable-pilates-reformer?ref=dfe11q&fbclid=PAVERFWAPoVDdleHRuA2FlbQIxMABzcnRjBmFwcF9pZA8xMjQwMjQ1NzQyODc0MTQAAae9cntqDFHvlcF6u-pnloR-jqEuqzVK2pPDx9fimNTBK9aln4UpqbnbPMTq2w\_aem\_hLIqENE-qdp6NAKE-cgHhQ As always, I’m happy to answer any questions and if you have any workout or content suggestions/requests please let me know🥹🫶🏼 submitted by /u/thatpilatesprincess to r/pinkpilatesprincess [link] [comments]

Is anyone else constantly explaining that Pilates ≠ just the reformer?
Hi all! I’m an instructor who teaches both mat and apparatus classes. Like every January, I’m seeing a wave of new clients, but this year I’ve noticed something different. Many people coming into my mat classes have only ever done reformer and didn’t even realize mat Pilates was part of the practice. I’ve found myself spending a lot more time before and after class addressing social media myths and clarifying what Pilates actually is. I genuinely enjoy educating clients, but I’m also noticing that some people see apparatus—especially the reformer—as “real” Pilates, while mat is viewed as secondary or optional. For fellow instructors: are you seeing this shift too? How do you approach educating clients Pilates is a system, and reformer is just one tool within it, not the whole practice? submitted by /u/ahpilates to r/pilates [link] [comments]

How much are you paying for reformer pilates?
I go to mighty and i have been paying about $285 for 8 group classes a month. They are raising their prices to $360 which seems like a big jump to me. I've only ever gone to mighty because it's close to my house so maybe my idea of how much pilates should cost is off. What do you pay for group classes and do you like your studio? update: thank you bitches. you all have given me a lot of ideas! submitted by /u/void-of-form- to r/SFbitcheswithtaste [link] [comments]

Why does everyone clap at the end?!?!? It’s the only class I’ve been to that people clap at. I’m not sure if it’s just a thing at my local studio but it really gives me the ick 😂 there, I said it. submitted by /u/Affectionate-Wait576 to r/pilates [link] [comments]

Reformer Pilates has changed my life
I have classical EDS with vascular issues. My joint and muscle pain are so much more manageable since I started reformer Pilates 6 months ago. It’s like a physical therapy work out every time. I’ve been doing mat Pilates for years but the reformer made all the difference with my hyper mobile body. If you’re dealing with early arthritis or joint pain I highly recommend giving it a try. submitted by /u/hugrandomhuman to r/ehlersdanlos [link] [comments]

One year of reformer pilates -- so many benefits, but the most exciting is that I grew an inch! (more in comments)

Results from ONLY reformer as strength training
I’m considering getting a very expensive pilates reformer class membership but still on the fence as, if I start it, I will only be able to afford to do this style of strength training. What results have people gotten from only pilates reformer? Are any muscles missing tone? How has it changed your body? Has it helped with weightloss? Would love to see before / afters if anyone has any they’re comfortable sharing. submitted by /u/somestupidusername72 to r/pilates [link] [comments]

Is it worth doing reformer pilates if I can only do it 1x a week?
Hi there! Been looking into reformer Pilates and am super interested in starting. However, with my schedule, I can dedicate at most a day or two a week to doing it. I know there are plenty of benefits to doing reformer Pilates but I’m curious if doing it once a week will be too little to see anything? I’m thinking that once a week is better than nothing but I don’t know! (Like how people say you have to do strength training 3x a week to actually see a difference, does the same apply to Pilates?) Thank you in advance! submitted by /u/iamlostpleasehelp_ to r/pilates [link] [comments]
