Would you switch from Club Pilates to LA Fitness for reformer classes? Stay or Switch?
I’m debating whether I should stay at Club Pilates or switch to LA Fitness, and I’d love some honest input from people who have tried both. Right now I pay $260/month at Club Pilates. I genuinely love the community there and I know what level classes I’m signing up for, which makes it easy to progress. But today I found out from my barista, sh goes to LA Fitness and pays about $140/month and they offer reformer Pilates classes as part of the membership; not mat. The LA Fitness membership would also include: • weights • pool • dry sauna • other class types A couple things that make me hesitate though: • LA Fitness is 22 minutes away vs 18 minutes for Club Pilates • LA Fitness reformer classes don’t have levels, so you never really know what difficulty you’re walking into • I really like the community at my Club Pilates One interesting thing I learned is that LA Fitness reformer instructors make about $65/hr vs around $45/hr at Club Pilates, which surprised me and made me wonder if the classes might be more intense or attract more experienced instructors. So I’m torn. On one hand it’s almost half the price and includes way more amenities. On the other hand I already have a routine and community at Club Pilates. If you’ve tried both, what would you do? Stay or switch? EDIT 1️⃣ I went to LA and saw the studio. It’s GORGEOUS They are using balance Body equipment just like CP However, no chair or springboard 😬 (however I don’t have many instructors using the chair. I have the beg them to use it) I don’t know if they allow weights, but he will get clarification. HOWEVER! I’ve complained before about this here, they actually have disinfectant wipes. They use a disinfectant not just Dawn and water. He is getting clarification on all the instructors they hired and what they’re trained in (classical or contemporary) He is also seeing about chairs through corporate. What I can say though is a girl said it’s like taking a hard ass 2.0 class and that’s why she switched. I also looked at the schedule and while I don’t love that they 18 reformers, they only have 3-8 people signed up per class so that’s not an issue and my location and there are 25 other location I can go too within my area. (All within 2 hours of me) there are probably 9 though that work well for me and would help me out scheduling wise cause I go all over for work. So I could legit, Pilates, shower, and go see a client. It’s hard to say no honestly submitted by /u/VeiledVerdicts to r/ClubPilates [link] [comments]

Girlies I am so excited to say I finally got my own pink at-home Pilates reformer!!🥹🎀
I want to be completely transparent: this reformer was gifted to me, and that’s entirely because of you!! This community has opened doors I never imagined, but more importantly, it’s given me real friendships and a true sense of sisterhood & I don’t take that lightly at all 🥹💞 With that said, I would never share or promote something I didn’t genuinely love. I’ve been using this reformer for over two weeks now, and it’s been SO hard to keep it a secret because I’m actually obsessed 😭🫶🏻 For the longest time owning a reformer felt unrealistic for me because of limited space and financial constraints, it just didn’t seem possible. So having this reformer literally feels like a dream come true!! If you’ve ever wanted a reformer of your own but felt held back for similar reasons, you can get the Pavo Fitness at-home reformer for 40% off on Kickstarter using my link (limited time offer): https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pavofitness/intelligent-foldable-pilates-reformer?ref=dfe11q&fbclid=PAVERFWAPoVDdleHRuA2FlbQIxMABzcnRjBmFwcF9pZA8xMjQwMjQ1NzQyODc0MTQAAae9cntqDFHvlcF6u-pnloR-jqEuqzVK2pPDx9fimNTBK9aln4UpqbnbPMTq2w\_aem\_hLIqENE-qdp6NAKE-cgHhQ As always, I’m happy to answer any questions and if you have any workout or content suggestions/requests please let me know🥹🫶🏼 submitted by /u/thatpilatesprincess to r/pinkpilatesprincess [link] [comments]

Is anyone else constantly explaining that Pilates ≠ just the reformer?
Hi all! I’m an instructor who teaches both mat and apparatus classes. Like every January, I’m seeing a wave of new clients, but this year I’ve noticed something different. Many people coming into my mat classes have only ever done reformer and didn’t even realize mat Pilates was part of the practice. I’ve found myself spending a lot more time before and after class addressing social media myths and clarifying what Pilates actually is. I genuinely enjoy educating clients, but I’m also noticing that some people see apparatus—especially the reformer—as “real” Pilates, while mat is viewed as secondary or optional. For fellow instructors: are you seeing this shift too? How do you approach educating clients Pilates is a system, and reformer is just one tool within it, not the whole practice? submitted by /u/ahpilates to r/pilates [link] [comments]

Reformer Pilates
Wondering if anyone’s tried reformer Pilates? I’m at the end of my tether. I used to love exercise and need it for mental health. But my tendons just don’t allow anything anymore. Can’t lift, even yoga seems to cause flare ups and then I’m hobbling around the house wondering if I’ll ever walk again. Tried everything. Physio. A personal trainer. Thinking if giving reformer Pilates a shot. It’s quite expensive to do the one on one but I feel I need some tailored attention before I scan jump ti classes. But another part of me is wondering if this is just another expensive detour? Ps. I’m going to speak to my provider about increasing estrogen. But realize that the tendon thing has pre-dated peri. submitted by /u/Civil-Dragonfly-9438 to r/Menopause [link] [comments]

PSA: A scary Pilates secret this Halloween… your reformer might not actually be disinfected 🦇
Friendly PSA for my fellow Pilates people as we roll into cold and flu season: check what your studio is actually using to “clean” reformers between classes. I just found out my location only sprays a Dawn dish soap and water mix. Like… what? That’s not disinfecting or actually cleaning. Dish soap needs running water and friction to lift grime, misting it in a bottle just spreads a thin film around…. Which that build up could harm the equipment more, no? I understand it’s better for the reformers per the manufacturer but any gym I’ve been to provides alcohol wipes so I’m bewitched at this point. We’re all laying face-down, breathing heavy, sweating, touching straps and handles, and they’re basically giving it a bubble bath instead of actually sanitizing. It’s wild to me that this is acceptable at a big-name franchise during cold and flu season. Oh and the c0-vid protocols are outdated and not used, so that was an interesting development Nothing like holding a plank on a reformer that’s basically been wiped down with sink water and hope. 🧽🤢 I just have a big ick like creepy crawlers are on me…. 🐜 Edit: The people downvoting factual information must be the ones using dawn dish soap and water with a hope and a prayer 🤣 who knew asking for disinfectant wipes would bring out the true horror of miss information lololol All I’m asking for is too vent because my dumbass thought it was common sense to have disinfectant wipes of some kind in a workout facility that I’m paying for (not public) and a significant amount for and it's like just be up front about it; and let people make an informed decision. That way I could have invested in a mat, and straps, and such. I also wanted to see if this was common and seems fairly split on what studios are doing so I’ll just say it again. Just be up front about it; and let people make an informed decision. submitted by /u/VeiledVerdicts to r/ClubPilates [link] [comments]

No, that board has nothing to do with Pilates and is not a reformer. No, that reformer with a keysmash name on Amazon is not a reputable brand. No, Wall Pilates is not a thing.
ETA: Thank you for your upvotes, but I made this mostly to have a URL to redirect people to when they get an automatic block on posting something about these things. This is a post made specifically to redirect all posters requesting information about the "Pilates board," which is not a reformer and not an invention of Joseph Pilates and not a piece of equipment used by reputable, certified Pilates instructors and studios. No, we don't suggest you buy it. No, we don't have suggestions for streamers with workouts who use it. Yes, we are aware that it is dropshipped and renamed by hundreds of cheap companies, and yes, many of them have taken people's money without ever delivering the piece of plastic. We are not customer service or the Better Business Bureau and cannot help you. No, your post about that board (whether lhanelfit, Flo Pilates, Marcy, Ultimate, 28, or anything else--it's all the same piece of plastic) is not going to be approved. Buy at your own risk--or better yet, don't buy it. You may also wish to view previous discussions on these boards here, here, here, or here (or, as we say in many post rejections, use the search function). If it looks like this, it's not a reformer, it's not a recommended purchase, and it's not going to be an approved post. This post is also made specifically to redirect all posters requesting information about cheap (under $500) Pilates reformers on Amazon with brand names that look like a keysmash (you know, when you just smash a lot of keys on your keyboard and end up with something like this--waeiotha;jkwefn;jkads). You can learn more about these keysmash brands here (gift link): https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/11/style/amazon-trademark-copyright.html?unlocked_article_code=1.lE8.g7EO.bQm4I4ZT1AhM&smid=url-share No, nobody here who knows anything about Pilates recommends or endorses any of those brands when they appear and disappear all the time and are all selling one or two of the same products from the same anonymous factory overseas and just drop shipping them. Buy at your own risk--or better yet, don't buy it. When it breaks, you will be hard-pressed to find spare parts that fit, and when you get hurt on it, you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone to hold responsible for your injury and your medical bills. You were provided an entire !wiki when you joined this sub, and it has an extensive guide to reputable Pilates equipment brands and Pilates teaching schools. No, your post about that cheap Amazon reformer by a brand nobody has heard of will not be approved. How can you tell if that keysmash brand is not a legitimate Pilates retailer? Well, if they're also selling cat food, fluffy slippers, and screwdrivers, they probably aren't about Pilates, they're just about selling products. You may also wish to view previous discussions on the subject here, here, or here (or, as we point out in many post rejections, use the search function). This post is also made specifically to redirect all posters complaining about Wall Pilates dot com or asking about the legitimacy of Wall Pilates. Joseph Pilates never called anything "wall Pilates." At best, the concept of Wall Pilates is simply mat Pilates using a wall as a sort of prop. There may be some useful modifications there, but it is certainly not a discipline or a thing that any credentialed teachers learn as a Pilates style. No, we are not the customer service department and can't help you get your money back. No, we don't recommend you pay money for an app for this made up Pilates style when, again, you were provided an ENTIRE wiki with recommendations for reputable streaming Pilates workouts, recognized schools for teachers, and more. You may also wish to view previous discussions on the subject here, here, or here (or, as we point out in many post rejections, use the search function). submitted by /u/mixedgirlblues to r/pilates [link] [comments]

Buying at home reformer
Hi everyone! So, I think I have narrowed it down to purchasing the Merrithew at home SPX package that Costco sells. I have attended about 30 reformer classes so far and am in love with Pilates. I enjoy the low impact and how good the soreness feels after and the next day. This is the only workout I’ve done where I truly enjoy it, hence why I’m planning on buying my own. I’ve sat on this for just about a year now and the reformer package is finally on sale. This is a big purchase since it comes to be just under 5k Canadian, so I’m a little wary on it. I do find the commitment to the studio has gotten costly to maintain a monthly membership where you can only go 8 times a month for 250$ at my current studio. I am in university currently, so to fork out that much is tight sometimes as well as trying to find a class to juggle between classes and assignments. I currently go to classes with a friend, but when she cancels on me or our schedules don’t align I feel nervous to go on my own and end up not going at all. When I look at the practicality of buying my own, I see as though I could get my money back within a year if I use the reformer consistently so in the long run it saves money, and I wouldn’t totally cut out going to the studio as I plan to go a few times here and there. Lastly, because I’ve been thinking about such a purchase I have saved up money for this item, so now that it finally has come on sale I do have the funds to go ahead with it. Im open to any advice, and feel free to answer some of the questions I left! Did you buy your own reformer and stick with it once you weren’t forced to attend classes? If I don’t end up buying it this week while on sale, does anyone know how often they go on sale/when to expect another sale to come? How did you guys enjoy the at home SPX Package? How long did it take before you guys saw noticeable changes in appearance with doing reformer Pilates/ how many times a week should I plan to do? Anyone you recommend on YouTube to follow along with workouts on the reformer? Thanks! submitted by /u/Happy_Noise6225 to r/pilates [link] [comments]

Miert ilyen draga a reformer pilates?

Does reformer Pilates give faster and better results than mat Pilates?
I recently started doing reformer Pilates, and after just 5 days, I noticed significant changes—my waist looked slimmer, and I felt and looked better overall. It was surprising how quickly I saw results. Now, I’ve been doing mat Pilates for a month since I’m not currently around any reformer studios, but I haven’t seen the same level of progress. While I enjoy mat Pilates, it hasn’t been as transformative as my short time with reformer Pilates. This has me wondering—does reformer Pilates actually provide faster and better results compared to mat Pilates? Is it because of the added resistance from the reformer, or is there something else at play? I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with both. Which one worked better for you, and why? :) submitted by /u/Soft_Duty7905 to r/pilates [link] [comments]

Reformer Pilates has changed my life
I have classical EDS with vascular issues. My joint and muscle pain are so much more manageable since I started reformer Pilates 6 months ago. It’s like a physical therapy work out every time. Results from ONLY reformer as strength training
I’m considering getting a very expensive pilates reformer class membership but still on the fence as, if I start it, I will only be able to afford to do this style of strength training. Is it worth doing reformer pilates if I can only do it 1x a week?
Hi there! Been looking into reformer Pilates and am super interested in starting. However, with my schedule, I can dedicate at most a day or two a week to doing it. I know there are plenty of benefits to doing reformer Pilates but I’m curious if doing it once a week will be too little to see anything? I’m thinking that once a week is better than nothing but I don’t know! (Like how people say you have to do strength training 3x a week to actually see a difference, does the same apply to Pilates?) Thank you in advance! submitted by /u/iamlostpleasehelp_ to r/pilates [link] [comments]

Finished my 150th reformer session today! Here are 12 things that I've noticed:
I just completed by 150th reformer class! I've been averaging about 2.5 classes a week over 15 months, and I figured I would share what I've noticed over this time. First of all, some details about me: I'm 6'3", male, 46 years old with poor posture, terrible flexibility, relatively trim but not skinny, and due to rotator cuff injuries and a bad knee, I've never been able to stick with many workouts for long. I want to be fit, but no matter what I do, my injuries inevitably flair up and I lose whatever progress I've made. So, I decided to try Pilates. Here is what I've learned: 1) I've never even come close to injuring myself during Pilates. Having great instructors coupled with ease of modifications has made Pilates feel very safe. Plus, I've actually gotten a ton of mobility back in my shoulders, and now I can do lots of upper body exercises (like "Draw the Sword), which at the beginning, I couldn't do at all. My shoulders definitely aren't "fixed", but due to the precision within which I can now move them, I know how to easily avoid problematic angles. 2) I haven't lost any weight. If anything, my waist is a little thicker. But my eating habits haven't changed, and weight loss was never a big part of the goal. 3) My body looks much better. Despite not losing weight around my waist, my upper body is far more defined, my shoulders look bigger, better posture, etc. 4) My posture has improved by about 40%. Literally people have been telling me about my hunch since I was middle school. Pilates is literally the first thing I've ever done in my life that has helped. Suddenly, it all makes sense. It's impossible "remind yourself" to stand up straight. You simply have to strengthen all aspects of your core, and you WILL stand up straighter. 5) I'm somewhat more flexible. I can pretty much touch my toes now, which I couldn't ever really do before. Still, I think I would have expected more improvements in flexibility. 6) Sitting is much more comfortable. I went to my nephew's graduation last week, and we were sitting on bleachers, and I noticed how I was naturally sitting up with my back straight. Bleachers were, for the first time ever, relatively comfortable. 7) Sorry if this is too much info, but sex is significantly better. 8) Yesterday, my phone fell into the backseat of the car, and I noticed that I was literally able to twist my body at the waist in order to reach and pick it up. In the past, I would have had to literally get up on my knees and turn myself fully around to get it. 9) It's frickin' expensive. Seriously, if I wasn't seeing such amazing improvements, I would have quit this long ago. An average of $35 per class is... a lot. My wife is really cool, but even she raises an eyebrow at how much money this costs. 10) Even after 150 classes, my hips are still super tight. Sitting up straight with my legs straight forward is very, very hard on my lower back. 11) I'm 6'3", and sometimes the reformer is a bit too small for me. I'd say I'm only really affected on about 5% of the exercises, but I do wish the machine were a little larger. 12) I'm sleeping better! All in all, it has been life-changing for me. Maybe I'll share another update at 300 classes! Thanks for reading. submitted by /u/woolyboy76 to r/pilates [link] [comments]
