Anything is possible. Porsche sells like 25-30 different rim levels on a 911, albeit in more constrained production numbers. In some ways, it would be a very fun car given the high reving FPC sound with instant torque. On the other hand, it takes a pure, mission driven machine and cheapens it IMO. What would Steve McQueen drive? I am guessing a Z06, not a Z06X.

Reports started dropping today that Porsche is hacking up their 718 EV concept to fit a combustion engine. Which got me thinking about the broader state of Porsche. Over 100 GT3s sitting on lots across the United States and daily hand wringing from places like Rennlist about a potential “correction” coming. Same people were saying during the peak that their cars would be worth 500k in just a few years (I kid you not). Today though, it seems the hype is dying. I’ve had two S/Ts offered to me in private channels recently. Those were careening towards being million dollar cars a few months ago. And even if we look at the “real” cars ADMS are no longer as absurd as they once were. Probably because at the end of the day Porsche AG is in it to make money and they are historically bad at that in this moment. They’ve incinerated all the goodwill they had with enthusiasts, priced out key demographics, and are really only competitive in one market. Only a few levers for the new ceo to pull. He could raise prices when demand is falling (a bold strategy cotton let’s see how that plays out), cut costs aggressively when Porsches quality has been on the decline, or make more of the thing that can sell at any price. There are several publications, among which Motorsport.com, claiming Max Verstappen won't be able to win the GT4 class in the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie tomorrow, because his Porsche is "detuned". First, the NLS doesn't have a GT4 class. GT4-spec cars are split up into a bunch of different categories, like SP8T for turbocharged GT4-cars with specially designed parts (i.e. Bilstein suspension on Jimmy Broadbent's car) and SP10 for SRO-homologated GT4-cars (SRO is the licenceholder of GT4). Verstappen's Porsche is entered in the CUP3 GUEST class, which is a separate class for detuned Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport cars. He is not competing against other GT4 cars. If his Porsche were not detuned, it wouldn't be a Permit B car and to get his Permit A ('GT3 licence'), he has to drive a Permit B car first. Due to articles like Motorsport.com wrote, there have been several hate comments directed towards the NLS organizers, because Verstappen fans think his Porsche is nerfed to slow him down and what not and that it's unfair. No, this isn’t because of the Cayenne and Macan. I’ve got no problem with those vehicles existing. It’s simply that Porsche is turning into Ferrari. Growing up, Porsche was the sports car that the working man COULD bust their ass to save up for, and actually get. Now, if you want a 911, it’s very often based on how many other Porsche’s you’ve bought. It’s based on how large of a bribe you’re willing to pay your local dealer. I don’t blame Porsche for all of this, I think it’s largely due to the “it’s an investment” bros. But Porsche is absolutely playing into that game. Part of the appeal of Porsche to me has always been that it wasn’t Ferrari. I never liked the games you had to play with them, even though I absolutely love many of their cars. Well, I’m getting to that point with Porsche now. I had been planning on getting a 911 towards the end of last year, but when push came to shove, I wrote the check for something else. I knew that the 911s were overpriced for the experience they provided, and more importantly I just didn’t want to be part of the problem of encouraging the collector/investment culture that is now surrounding these cars. Tell me I’m wrong, tell me there’s still hope. It's sad to see Porsche turning into Ferrari where you need to buy 3 macans and own a 918 to even get the option of buying a GT3, RS, ST, GT4rs or even a T without a huge ADM. I had one dealer offer a GT3RS for msrp but wanted an extra 160k under the table (tell no one). Porsche will lose a lot of younger enthusiasts like myself and when all the boomers die, the brand my die as well!
