I used to be a UV Gel girl but I’ve developed contact dermatitis. So I’ve been trying press ons now. GLAMFIX - 8/10. Best I’ve tried so far, sturdy and feels natural! Hello all! I made my sister about 6/7 sets of nails and was super excited to see her wear them and model for my shop I wanna make. And she told me they were unwearable. “They’re chunky and the sides are so wide they don’t sit right.” I sized her and used those sizes. I used thin coats of everything. I do 1 layer of acrylic dip for strength. 1 layer of top coat to seal. And then gel polish nail art, and then one last layer of top coat. I guess what I’m asking is.. is it possible to put on so many layers that they’re unwearable? And if so is there a way to remedy or avoid it? I asked if she could sand the sides so they fit right but got no response. Is she just being picky? Or was it something I accidentally did? A huge thank you to the brilliant minds of press ons Reddit, and the tips I’ve gathered from you! To skip to the good stuff: THANK YOU SO MUCH for your recommendations on curv life semi solid glue and using a floss pick string for removal!!! The curv life glue has my nails absolutely locked on for 2.5 weeks, not one will pop off the whole time. I just tried the floss pick for the first time…I’m blown away! It was so easy, I didn’t even need any oil! You just slide it under at the cuticle and gently move around the edges until it pops off. Literally took like 3 min for all nails. My easiest removal yet! And seems low damage! ——————— Now for some backstory (things that didn’t work as well)…. I used to do my own dip nails, I got quite good at it, but once I tried press ons it was hard to compete. The shape and pattern could never quite be as precise as the press ons, so I have now been using mostly press ons for about a year. On about my third set, and every set after that, I got greenies (green nail syndrome - bacteria) underneath. I tried everything to prevent it… - super thorough prep (buffing, cleaning, drying) - not wetting hands for hours after applying - starting using dish gloves for washing dishes - 5+ different glues and glue methods (glues in packs of: OPI, Glamnetic, chillhouse; Glamnetic brush on glue; kiss pink brush on glue) - taking them off after only a few days And none of this worked (still green!) until I saw some of you recommend your fave glue: curv life semi solid glue from Amazon. This makes sense, bc water was getting trapped under the nail, so I figured that a semi solid glue could help fill in the space and not allow water. it worked!!! No more green after 3 sets (6-7 weeks) of curv life! Now I do find this glue so sketchy lol, no ingredient list, weird grammar on the packaging… sometimes you gotta roll with it. It works and my nails do not BUDGE for 2.5 weeks (I actually think they would stay in a while longer). But of course, for the past 3 sets, it’s been a battle to get the nails off. They don’t want to go anywhere. I tried kiss remover, Glamnetic remover, and curv life remover. I have to pry and pry and it was taking 20+ min and hurt my nails. Today I remembered the recommended floss trick. Beautiful, glorious, you absolute geniuses! It was so easy and only had to force it a teeeny bit on my thumbs. We were looking at something under my USB microscope and when she put her hand under to move it, we noticed a pattern on her nails. When we zoomed in this is what we found. These nails are French tip style with rhinestones and some extra pattens in spots. I have also posted this in r/Nails but haven't had any response, so was hoping someone here might be able to help me :) I've been wearing press ons a lot recently (pretty much for the last 3 months straight) and each time I remove them my natural nails are looking worse and worse. I took my latest set off last night and saw I've now got green fungal marks across most of my nails and HUGE dents/ridges in all of them where the press ons have warped my natural nail shape. I know gluing press ons on isn't amazing for your nails, but the reason I've kept doing it is cause my natural nails now look so bad and I want to cover it up. I feel so self-conscious of my natural nails. I recently embraced the press-on lifestyle (yay $$$ saving!) and I wanted to share what happened to me over the weekend. On Friday, I applied a new set of OPI Xpress press-on nails. Late friday evening, I was climbing out of a bunk bed and ended up catching my pinky nail on a slab of wood. Instead of the press-on popping off, my entire nail lifted 80% off of my finger while remaining attached to the press-on. It was some of the worst pain of my life. I ended up having to have the entire nail removed today at the dermatologist's office because it had been pulled off beyond the point of no return. I am not even sure if this is a positive or negative review of the OPI Xpress press-on nails and the glue that comes with it, but I just felt like the people should know that their glue is simply not fucking around.
