Is Primer Face Makeup trending?

This is a seasonal trend that peaks every July. The seasonal demand is forecasted to decline over the next year.

Why is Primer Face Makeup trending?

1
Enhances Makeup Application
Using a primer before applying foundation helps to create a smooth canvas for makeup, allowing it to glide on more easily and evenly. This can result in a more flawless and professional-looking finish.
2
Prolongs Makeup Wear
Primer helps to increase the longevity of makeup by creating a barrier between the skin and the makeup products. It can help prevent makeup from melting, fading, or creasing throughout the day, making it particularly beneficial for those with oily skin or in hot and humid climates.
3
Minimizes Pores and Fine Lines
Certain primers are formulated with ingredients that can help to temporarily fill in and blur the appearance of pores and fine lines. This can create a smoother and more even complexion, giving the illusion of smoother skin.
4
Controls Oil and Shine
Some primers are specifically designed to control excess oil and shine on the skin. They can help to mattify the complexion and keep makeup looking fresh and matte throughout the day, making them popular among those with oily or combination skin.
5
Suitable for All Skin Types
Primer face makeup is available in a variety of formulations to cater to different skin types. There are primers for dry skin that provide hydration, primers for oily skin that control oil production, and primers for sensitive skin that are gentle and non-irritating.

Minimalist makeup routine, got my face down to four products and here's what actually made the cut
I went through a phase where I had more makeup than I could use in a year and it felt completely out of step with how I think about the rest of my consumption. Started an actual purge and now my whole face routine is four things. A complexion stick for coverage, brow gel, mascara, and a lip product that doubles as blush. That's it. Getting here required figuring out which products were genuinely earning their place and which ones I was keeping out of habit or sunk cost. The biggest unlock was finding a good multi-use complexion product and accepting that I don't actually need a separate primer, setting powder, and contour most days. Curious how other people here have approached paring down. submitted by /u/MagicianFirm6310 to r/MakeupRehab [link] [comments]

Rant: I didn’t realize makeup would cost this much mentally and financially
When I first started, I thought it would be simple. Foundation. Concealer. Eyeliner. Lipstick. Done. But then you realize your face looks kind of flat… so you buy a blush. Then you see how good blush looks with highlighter. So you buy that too. Then your foundation isn’t quite right. Maybe it’s slightly too orange. Or too pale. Or it looks weird around your mouth. So you buy an orange corrector. Then a green one for acne. Then you learn you have olive undertones (wow me!) and now apparently you need a blue corrector too. At this point, you’re not even adding fun products. You’re just trying to fix the ones you already bought. And blush? Don’t even get me started. Too pink. Too warm. Too dull. So you buy another. And another. And you can’t return opened cosmetics, so the “wrong” shades just sit there as wasted money. Then one day you realize your makeup doesn’t last long enough. So now you need a primer. Or a setting spray. And of course you need setting powder to lock everything in. And don’t even get me started on brushes. Because apparently you need different brushes for everything. Foundation brush. Concealer brush. Blush brush. Setting powder brush. Multiple eyeshadow brushes. And they all cost money. This is all drugstore, but when you keep adding product after product after product, it really adds up. And if you wear makeup regularly, you have to repurchasing things soon. Does anyone else feel like makeup slowly turns into this never-ending cycle of buying things to fix other things? Or am I just overthinking it? *I live in the Netherlands! Makeup PSA From Someone Who Has Seen Too Many Bad Wedding Faces.
This is for the girls who want to do full glam. Bride or not. Ladies trying to UNO reverse those insane MUA charges without looking like a bakery display assemble ! (Posting this after receiving a lot of DMs over a comment made earlier) First things first. Stop falling for makeup brands that market themselves as ayurvedic, clean, makeup plus skincare, no chemicals, ancient secrets etc. Makeup is makeup. Combining the two rarely works the way marketing wants you to believe. You will still need real skincare underneath. Slapping “herbal” on a foundation does not make it magically perform. And also please do not touch cheaper end brands.Yes they are affordable, but the formulations are bad and unreliable under flash, sweat, tears and 10 hours of chaos. Now let’s get into what actually matters. BASE aka your entire face depends on this Foundation is the most important product. Period. Get a good one, matched properly to your skin tone and undertone. Test it in daylight and with flash. If this is wrong, nothing else will save you. You'll either be Casket or Trump no in between. Recommendations: 1. Elf Cosmetics 2. Kay Beauty 3. Loreal True Match 3. Charlotte Tilbury 4. Armani Luminous Concealer should not be five shades lighter. This is not 2016 Instagram. Flashback is real and it will haunt your instagram feed forever. Recommendations: 1. Loreal True Match 2. Kay Beauty 3. Elf Cosmetics 4. Milk Makeup 5. Kulfi Beauty 6. Haus Labs Setting powder is mandatory. One finely milled loose powder for light baking and one pressed compact for touch ups. Not optional. Recommendations: 1. Nykaa setting powder in olive 2. Maybelline Fit loose powder 3. Makeup Revolution 4. Huda beauty both normal and pink 5. Morphe Pink setting powder LIPS because crusty lips ruin everything Lipstick • Bullet lipsticks in velvet or creamy matte formulas only. Liquid mattes crack, dry and age you. Recommendations: Revlon (needs constant touch up but the formula is god send very velvety you can use it without any lipbalm or gloss too) Milani color fetish balm for that perfect nude Kay Beauty (breaks easily so be warned) Bobby Brown luxe lipstick • lip liners Don't cheap out buy from Elf, Kay or Mac; One brown and the other that is exactly your lip shade for dimensions. • One gloss that's clear and the other with brown or rose tint depending on your lip combo. Nobody wants butt crack lips in close up photos. Recommendations: 1. Elf 2. Etude House 3. Rom&nd 4. Dior 5. Fenty EYES without buying a too many palettes One nude eyeshadow palette is enough. If you want fun colours, buy single shadows instead of entire palettes you will never finish. (Kay has a great one if you can afford go for Pat Macgrath) Recommendations: 1. Kay beauty 2. Huda beauty 3. Rom&nd 4. Too faced 5. Pat McGrath Individuals shimmer shades 1. Pac 2. Elf liquid eyeshadow 3. Charmacy Milano Mascara • Drugstore works perfectly fine. Do not overthink this. (Brides use waterproof ones - keep a lil coconut oil bottle and cotton swabs or tissues with you for easy removal at the end of the day, others who don't plan on crying use washable ones trust me there's barely any energy left) Recommendations: 1. Maybelline sky high , colossal and hyper curl 2. Loreal lash paradise, volume million 3. Mac macstack 4. Too faced- better than s*x Brows should look soft and seamless. Use browns from your eyeshadow palette and set with brow gel. Sharp brows age the face instantly. (Elf has awesome brow gel it's clear, so no Shinchan I have only ever used this so I can't say about others) Lashes. Individual lashes only. Practice beforehand. They look natural and photograph beautifully unlike big fluffy influencer lashes that scream costume or bratty valley girl from memes. I have used PAC and Iiked it. I don't have further recommendations CHEEKS and GLOW without clown behaviour Blush is non negotiable. Have two shades depending on your skin tone. Pink and orange or pink and purple. One liquid blush and one powder or cream depending on skin type. Learn placement. This is what makes your face look alive. Even if you skip bronzer don't skip this. Recommendations: 1. Liquid - Etude House, Bene tint, rare 2. Creme- Milk beauty, Fenty, Tower 21, Nykaa stick version 3. Powder- Kay Beauty, Nars, Patrick, Mac Highlighter should look like skin, not foil. Avoid shades that are too silver or too gold. Recommendations: 1. Makeup Revolution 2. Elf 3. Maybelline Master chrome 4. FAE Beauty 5. Charlotte Tilbury Bronzer should be used lightly. Beginners go overboard and end up looking hollow and skeleton in photos five years later. Recommendations: 1. Nars 2. Mac TOOLS people ignore and then regret Good brushes, blending brushes, lash curlers and Q tips are essential. Tools matter more than people admit. Recommendations: 1. Real Techniques 2. PAC 3. Pro Arte 4. Swiss beauty But the basic one if your starting out and add on individuals and multiples as per requirements For eyeliner use tape. It saves time and mental breakdowns. Liquid liner is best. For smoky eyes start with gel liner. Practice placement according to your eye shape. Recommendations: 1. Maybelline colossal 2. Loreal Paris infallible 3. Maybelline long lasting drama 3. Mac pro longwear fluidline 4. Pac spotlight gel liner Also please ditch the white liner for tight lining it won't really help especially with majority of Indian eyes (small eyes use nude liner only on outer or inner corner not all the way) Recommendations: 1. Kiko Beauty 2. Pac SKIN prep not skincare delusion Skincare should be basic and consistent. Moisturiser, sunscreen and lip balm. You do not need serums on the D day. Maybe use an eye mask if you need it while doing the prep. Your skin cannot absorb miracles under layers of makeup and stress. Primer is optional (textured skin go for it). It is not magic. Use it if you like it, skip it if you don’t. Recommendations: 1. Elf power grip 2. Mac Color corrector is not one shade fits all. Do not blindly buy bright orange. Watch proper YouTube videos based on your skin tone and pigmentation. Avoid reels there slick to good ol' youtube videos please. Recommendations: 1. Huda beauty 2. Typsy Beauty 3. Elf Cosmetics LIFESTYLE things nobody tells you Drink water. Eat fruits. Melons, apples, grapes. Ask your friends to keep feeding you like a stressed celebrity. It shows on your skin. Lenses- Industry's trend yes but can you really take it off without turning into a mess. Please be very aware of the discomfort and redness one can encounter, especially with too many events following up you need to consider the use and effects. YouTube creators who actually teach technique Alexandra Anele for understanding face structure and product placement. Signature Indian smoky eye https://youtu.be/liiamJedRDQ?si=uB6cVy_twWmtQHP4 One of the best soft glam looks https://youtu.be/zY7FHOAjk_o?si=gBVn-RcVD8gm7Jy6 Prakriti Singh for brown skin, pigmentation and realistic coverage. Monica Ravichandran is great for brown-girl skin prep and understanding colour theory (her colour theory video is solid). Her technique range is limited though, so I wouldn’t recommend her for eyeshadow or bridal looks but for base and prep, she’s a good resource. Painted by Spencer for bold, soft and experimental glam across all skin tones. Hindash has some of the best fun eye looks Foundation Shopping 🛒 While purchasing foundation go to a mall or some local store use the trial shades on your hands and do not listen to the shopping assistant there they don't know how to shade match most of the time. Apply it on your neck and hand walk around a lil let it oxidise and then go out in sun light and compare cause you won't just be under artificial lights. If possible take another human with you so you can actually evaluate. And then buy a shade of foundation and wear it don't save it for D day use it and test how it creases or oxidises. Final truth bomb Your first kit should have one product per category. Learn your face, the flow of things. Then add things based on what you actually need. Less is more. No orange necks. No flashback under eyes. No oompa loompa faces. Girly pops, be darlings and drop any other handy details I might’ve missed. submitted by /u/Responsible-Cash6391 to r/DesiWeddings [link] [comments]

I still don’t understand what this is or does, but it has completely changed my life
About a week ago I dropped by Sephora hoping to find a decent cream or powder skin-tone colored foundation or cover to blend into my cream blushes and contours. I grabbed this thinking it was something like that that would provide light coverage. The girl working also didn’t really know what it did but said I should try it. So I bought it and did some research. from what I could find, people either loved or hated this. I tried it out first alone and my face looked so much more even and clear. Then I tried it as a primer and did my face on top of it. Again, my makeup had never looked more natural, perfectly blended, or beautiful. Next I tried using it as both a primer and as a setting powder. No matter how I use it, it seems to be the one ingredient that pulls my entire face together. So I still don’t understand what Danessa Myricks yummy skin blurring balm is or does, but it has changed my life, and I highly recommend giving it a try Oh also it works amazingly as an eyeshadow primer! submitted by /u/Tjaames to r/MakeupAddiction [link] [comments]

This sub changed my life!
First of all, you guys are makeup/skincare geniuses and I love each and every one of you who helped me out 🫶🏻 I posted in here a few weeks ago asking for help with foundation as my face would always appear dry and clumpy by the end of the day like in the last pic here, no matter what brand of foundation I used. Turns out my skin type is dry and I was over exfoliating, in addition to using all matte products (this sub also helped me realize matte is out of style now. Apparently I’m just an out of touch millennial lol). So here’s what I changed based on everyone’s advice: I started applying a small amount of aquafor to my face every night, along with weekly hyaluronic acid face mask treatments. I use a wash cloth to wash my face daily instead of a rotating brush, which is a lot gentler. And I started using a tinted moisturizer instead of foundation, along with a mineral powder finish. And that’s it!! No more primers, no more setting sprays even. And my makeup stays looking like this all day long! I don’t even have to use concealer any more. Just tinted moisturizer, powder, blush, brows, mascara, and a little lip tint. Takes about 5-10 minutes out of my morning! Hopefully this post helps someone else who is struggling with a similar issue ☺️ Thank you all again! You’ve seriously changed my life! submitted by /u/Apprehensive-Peas to r/makeuptips [link] [comments]

Is there another product like Bobbi Brown’s “Face Base” moisturizer & primer? It is amazing, but the price is not.
I got a sample of this when I purchased a Bobbi Brown foundation, and I’ve never been so impressed by a moisturizer/primer! It is perfect for my skin. I looked it up, thinking I’d treat myself … but the full-size 100mL is $113 😩 $69 for 50mL, $25 for the lil 15mL. I probably have one more use in that sample, and as much as I’m looking forward to using it again, I wish I knew of a less expensive product that is extremely similar to this. I’m willing to spend a bit - I treat myself to higher end brands when it is warranted - but this is just too much. I did try to talk myself into it a little bit (“well, 100mL is over 3oz…and it eliminates the need for a seperate moisturizer….sooo…”). Does anyone happen to know of something similar to this? It’s so moisturizing and enriching for my skin; it feels amazing and my skin looks good, AND my makeup applied well over it & lasted through a long, sweaty day of work. If not, I guess I’ll just be keeping my eyes open for sales. Bobbi Brown made a smart decision in giving out that sample … now that I had a taste of this level of luxury & quality, it’s hard to go back to the (too many) other primers I have. submitted by /u/GremlinSquishFace47 to r/makeupdupes [link] [comments]

Renfaire makeup: yay or nay?
Going to a renaissance festival for the first time this weekend. Was trying to experiment with a fun eye look, but I’ve never done a cut crease-type look before, nor have I ever used white liquid liner. I definitely had some trouble with it, and I messed up my right eye, but it will hopefully be a LOT cleaner looking the day of. Just curious if this looks good and hoping for advice if anything looks off. (I could not get a pic with natural lighting, sorry). Thank you!! — List of products (I was clearly experimenting lol): Eyes: Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden; a mixture of eyeshadows from various (super old and likely discontinued) palettes, including Morphe 35N, LimeCrime Venus II, and BH Cosmetics Carli Bybel palette; Essence Lash Princess Liquid Liner in Brown and White; L’Oréal Lash Paradise in Latte Brown Brows: NYX brow tint pen in Espresso; Elf Ultra Precise Brow Pencil in Cool Brown Face: NYX Marshmellow Primer; MUFE Ultra HD Foundation in R230; Maybelline Master Conceal in Fair mixed with Tarte Shape Tape in Fair Beige; Essence Baby Got Blush in Pinkalicious; Buxom Primer infuse Blush in Wanderlust; MUFE HD Skin Perfecting Loose Translucent Powder; Fly Eyeshadow from the LC Venus II palette (as highlighter); unnamed, pink highlighter shade from the Carli Bybel palette Lips: NYX Lip Pencil in Mauve; Ulta Beauty Sculpting Lip Liner in Blushed Mauve; Essence Baby Got Blush in Pinkalicious; Fly Eyeshadow from the LC Venus II palette; unnamed pink highlighter shade from the Carli Bybel palette submitted by /u/bert-merps to r/MakeupAddiction [link] [comments]

I am a DV survivor. I refuse to give ELF my money. I have made a list of popular products from ELF, against what one can use instead. Hope this helps!!
This is not an exhaustive list - in the comments please feel free to discuss and add suggestions. Hope this can be pinned. I will not even use the product names, because i won't give elf even that much free marketing. I hope the descriptor will be clear enough. I just left Sephora in tears
Look, I am not beautiful. I am approaching 50. I have never worn makeup before and I have some events coming up so I want to look like my best self. It took a lot for me to work up the nerve to walk into anywhere and ask for help. I just went to Sephora to try and get color matched to buy some tinted moisturizer. The young lady that helped me looked like she did not want to help me. Then she just rubbed some Tower 28 (the brand I keep seeing recommended on here) on my face and basically told me to decide if it matches. I told her I didn't know anything about make-up and she just kept telling me to decide. Does anyone have any advice so that I am not embarrassed again? Is there somewhere that will receive me with a more welcoming attitude? Or somewhere I can get samples so this never happens again? I have been sobbing since I left that retched store. Edit to update: THANK YOU ALL, the overwhelming response really raised my spirits and had me laughing all the way to ULTA. The young lady at Ulta helped me quickly, efficiently and I left with $150 in products. I really, really appreciate the good vibes, my people. I really felt a little bruised but now I will play with my new makeup, primer and anti-reddening goop. Much love from Texas! submitted by /u/trashworldd to r/45PlusSkincare [link] [comments]

Tips on achieving a smoother skin look? I use facial lotion, hyaluronic serum, pore filling primer, light powder, but I still can't seem to get that smooth skin look. (The second pic is from early in my makeup years, 3 years ago)
Each time I do makeup, I critique myself and work on what I can improve the next time. Over the course of the last 3 years or so, I've been improving each time. One thing I struggle with is the texture of the skin. I've got deep pores, and I can't seem to get a smooth look 😩 Like the title says, I use facial lotion and hyaluronic serum, which definitely helps. Then I use Maybeline's Baby Face primer, but the pores are still pretty visible. I've recently started using a loose powder over my liquid foundation, as I've heard it helps fill pores, but again, the pores are still visible. Is it unrealistic to think I can achieve a "smooth, flawless skin" look? submitted by /u/-krista-- to r/MakeupEducation [link] [comments]

I HATE THIS PRIMER. I HATE TWO FACED PRODUCTS
I’ve had this primer for almost a year now and I hate it. I keep picking it up and trying to again and again but no luck. My makeup always crusts and never lasts and it breaks me out. I’m literally on my way to an interview and used this primer and I regret it. Also their concealer sucks too. It’s dry, too orange, and always peels. I just don’t like this brand at all!!! submitted by /u/Tasteless-taco to r/Ulta [link] [comments]

Rating every Moisturizer (tried 24+) [Review]
Hi everyone! After my previous post reviewing 30+ face cleansers (thank you for the love btw), some redditors asked me to make one for other products. So I’ve compiled a list of all the moisturizers I’ve tried in the past few years and these are my thoughts on them. About me I'm 26 F, I have combination/sensitive skin that is prone to breakouts. The most important for me in a moisturizer is that it keeps my skin moisturized (duh!) but with no heavy, greasy or oily finish, all at a reasonable price. Bonus - Sits well under makeup (so that I don’t have to buy 2 different moisturizers). - Enjoyable texture. - Nice light scent (if any). - Cute & eco-responsible packaging. submitted by /u/emi518 to r/SkincareAddiction [link] [comments]

Face Primers, Setting Sprays and Baking Powders are they gimmicks???
Let me explain myself. I was a part of the 2016-2017 era where makeup was at its peak and everyone base was crazy dewy and matte. In this era, most people were not using face primers, setting sprays, or baking powders. I remember my friends and I would do our makeup very similarly, we would put our face cream, foundation, concealer and pressed foundation powder to set our base. Then we'd do our ABH eyebrows and super detailed eyeshadow looks. I have so many pictures of myself where my makeup was so full coverage, dewy, and super set. When I'd see my friends in person and up close, their makeup looked the same as mine and our skin looked so smooth, even my friends who had tons of acne, their base was craaaazzzy good you couldn't even tell they had acne even when you looked up close. Like you really had to try to look. Anyways, I went on a makeup hiatus because of life and when I came back in 2022, I started learning the new ways of makeup except this time, people were using face primers, setting sprays, and tons of baking powder or transluscent powders for their face as a MUST. Tiktok's gwm were filled with girls doing their makeup routine with these 3 added products and they looked good... on tiktok.... I started doing the same and idk.. my makeup just wasn't makuping anymore like it used to. I thought it was my technique but I wasn't a newbie at makeup. I noticed that I didn't see a difference when I used face primers, and my makeup lasting longer was NEVER. problem. My makeup didn't move with my original routine but I felt when I used setting spray, it kind of made my base look super weird. When I used baking powder, it did not look good in person. Then I went to Sephora with a good friend of mine and she does her makeup what is standard to today, and when I saw her up close, she looked sooooo bad like meeeee. We both looked so crusty. Our under eye base looked like it was peeling and grey. Hers looked yellow. There were some other girls looking at the huda beauty baking powder and I saw their base and they looked sooo dusty just like us lmao One of my nieces who is Gen Z is always taking pictures and posting on social media and her base looks smooth. But when I saw her in person, her undereyes looked JUST like my friend's. Are we being scammed? I haven't seen one girl with a good base in such a long time!! Are we adding unnecessary products to our makeup routine? I asked chatgpt and it said that adding a lot of products to your face is unnecessary and creating too many layers might look good on camera but not in person as it will seperate and peel the makeup off. What are your thoughts? Has anyone noticed this?? submitted by /u/SnooMacarons4754 to r/Makeup [link] [comments]

How can I make sure my makeup stops melting off my face and smearing every time I go to work as a server at a busy restaurant?
The comparison pics aren’t from the same day but were the best examples I could find. By the end of my shift every single day my makeup ends up looking like this and I’m so frustrated. What I’ve currently been using for my routine (in order): SPF moisturizer, Elf Power Grip Primer, a layer of setting spray (still trying to find one I like but currently using Mac’s Fix+ Stay Over and before that tried Urban Decay’s All Nighter Long), CC cream, concealer, Bare Mineral’s setting powder, blush, bronzer, highlighter, eyebrow powder or tinted gel, mascara on the top lashes only, and then another layer of setting spray. What am I doing wrong? (Also if anybody has feedback on my makeup before it turned to shit, I’d love to hear it!!) submitted by /u/lacrimosian to r/MakeupAddiction [link] [comments]

UPDATE: I asked for advice last week on how to improve my skincare and makeup to not make me look older. Update for anyone that’s interested. Repost for selfie Sunday
I was so overwhelmed with all the advice and comments I received the other week in how to improve my makeup and skincare to help me look my age and not older than I am. Well I followed everyone’s advice with me skin care and makeup. I now use a dewy foundation and primer and have skipped the setting powder. Got eyelash extensions and have skipped wearing heavy eye makeup. I use hyaluaric serums and slug my face nightly. Thank you everyone for all your lovely comments. 🥰 submitted by /u/naselflee to r/30PlusSkinCare [link] [comments]

Hi friends! Why does my makeup sit on top of my face instead of melting in? Am I priming wrong? Do I need a thicker moisturizer? Help

I get told a lot "I wish I could wear makeup like that." Well, why not? It just takes a willingness to step outside your comfort zone and the patience to practice and become familiar with your face. Don't be afraid to experiment! (Sorry for small grid - reuploaded with product list)
