Stuck between these two
I need to pick a dress and I am stuck between these two. No time to look further and I’m already exhausted. I like n.1 because it’s very light and also simple but refined (but is it too simple? I don’t want to disappear on my wedding day and look too predictable). N.2 is stiffer but has the most exquisite lace work on the top (and back) and I feel it elongates my figure (but I would like the gown to be less puffy).I only have a problem with adding sleeves, which is needed because my bare arms are completely inelegant. Everyone has a different opinion, what do you guys think? submitted by /u/nevergonnasaythat to r/myweddingdress [link] [comments]

I accidentally wore white to a wedding and I'm still embarrassed after 5 years.
I ended up accidentally wearing white to a wedding. I still think about this, even after 5 years. My husband, then boyfriend, asked me to be his +1 at the event, he told me it is a baptism, but we would only go to a reception in the evening. I was a broke ass college student, so I couldn't afford a new dress, and when I asked my bf for opinion, he told me he likes this specific outfit the most. It was a baby pink pencil skirt and a white lacy shirt/blouse with big, puffy sleeves. 🫣 When sitting, it would easily be confused with a wedding dress. But then, there was a whole ass bride, in a while ass wedding dress! It was a damn wedding! My poor bf had no idea it was an actual wedding, he thought we were going on a baptism lmao. I felt so embarrassed. The worse thing is, bride's dress was a simple silky slip, something that you guys here compare to a nightgown (but she looked good af in that). To be fair, we are not from the US. We live in Eastern Europe and you can wear whatever you want to wedding here. I saw people in ripped jeans and sneakers, and also women in long, white, sparkly dresses and nobody gave a fuck. Also, nobody told me anything about my shirt, because as I said you can wear whatever, but I was so traumatised because of the social media posts about not a speck of white, and I was so embarrased and nobody had a clue why lmao. I spent the night sitting at the table, I didn't even go to the toilet, and I definitely needed to. 🤣 At least the food was great. Hot take: Some minor fairies have more interesting designs than the Winx.
In my opinion, some minor fairies have more alluring designs because they feature multiple colors, unusual clothing designs or other small details. For example: Alice has a jumpsuit with a cape; Priscilla has clothes with jagged edges; Katy has torn clothes with cat ears and tail; Karina has an Asian-like dress and loose sleeves; Lavigne has a vest and sneakers, Francis has a magician-like outfit; Loni has a bunch of rings over her outfit, Kylie has a bikini top and puffy shorts, etc. I still think that the Winx's designs were, are, and always will be cool and iconic, like take Tecna's sci-fi suit or Flora's flower dress. But it feels to me that their outfits, while conveying personality and power, are slightly simplified to make it easier to constantly draw. It may also be because we are used to the Winx's outfits, so seeing the designs of the background fairies, especially when they rarely transform, feels very fresh. submitted by /u/IceCreamNapoleon to r/winxclub [link] [comments]

I really like this picture of Annie Jones wearing a puffy sleeved dress! I imagine it could have been a dark green, blue, or red, and any combination would have looked stunning on her. She gives off a strong professional energy in this, like a very successful businesswoman (which she was!)
I like to pause and appreciate the styles of clothes that sideshow performers wore, especially since there were usually a lot of differences between their stage clothes and their everyday clothes. Annie always dressed very well and must have had a very large wardrobe as evidenced by all of the different pictures available. It’s also fun to see which fabrics were used in the clothes (because so many mass produced clothing now has no interesting styles or textures). This particular dress looks like it incorporated velvet in the sleeves and upper part of her dress. Annie was a famous sideshow performer born with a form of hirsutism, which caused her to grow a beard. She actively fought for respect and disability rights at a time when disability rights didn't exist. She was an excellent public speaker and successfully campaigned to have the term "freak" removed from Barnum & Bailey circus advertising for a few years. She became extremely wealthy and used her earnings to purchase a lot of real estate in New York City, though it's unknown what happened to these properties. She went on to marry her childhood sweetheart and the two of them were very devoted to each other until her husband unfortunately passed away after only a couple years together. Annie passed away in 1902 at the age of 37. My aunt knitted me a dress and it is so warm!!!
My aunt never used a pattern for anything she makes. She free-handed every single sweater or dress she created. Every year I receive a gift from my aunt, something I always looking forward to have to cherish. When my aunt goes to a yarn shop she becomes a kid in the candy store. This dress is made with 100% cotton yarn with puffy sleeves and a slit on the side. The dress is quite heavy- and very warm. I do not know how to knit but I want to show off my aunt's work to all of you talented knitters submitted by /u/Lady-Chi to r/knitting [link] [comments]

I also made my wedding dress!!
When I got engaged I knew I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make something absolutely ridiculous. The vision was 'elegant clown' and the result was two layered dresses, a veil, 800 organza X's and 4,000 sequins. I am an experienced sewist but wanted to learn new techniques for the dress- I had never worked with satin or organza before and this was my first attempt at boning. Fabric: · Fabric wholesale direct's crystal organza in off white · Fabric wholesale direct's matte satin in off white For the underlayer dress, I used Charm Pattern's Lamour dress and modified the skirt to be midi length with a long slit up the back. For the overlayer dress, I used Vogue V1723 for the body of the dress but wanted a much puffier sleeve so ended up using the sleeves from Beaute J'Adore's Oversized Puffy Sleeve Dress. Since I made this with organza, I made every seam a french seam- the pattern was roomy as-is so no adjustment was needed to account for this. I created appliques of small X's that were placed all over the overlayer dress using fabric glue and reinforced with tacks. The X's were stacks of four strips of organza sewn together with a stack of 5 sequins in the middle of each. These were by far by far by far most of the work of the dress- the week before the wedding I only had half of what I needed done and my parents and sister had to save me from my own decisions and help me finish creating these!! I experimented with different sizes and finishing techniques for the Xs for a while, and ended up buying a soldering iron with a knife edge tip to cut the organza, seal the edge, and prevent fraying (an idea I got in this subreddit! so effective! so fume-y! work in a well ventilated area!!) For the veil, I used Simplicity B4487. I attached two Xs in front of the eyes and sewed a few sequins to look like tears in an attempt to do a till death type of thing (my mom felt it was too morbid lol.) All in all, I felt like the most beautiful clown princess all day! The day was unseasonably warm and I was worried I would be too hot wearing two dresses but in the end felt totally fine all day, even through 5 hours of dancing. I was also worried the Xs would just be falling off of me in droves since their snag potential is so high- there was a few moments in the night when I looked down and saw sequins on the floor but decided it wasn't any of my business right then! Only a few tore off in the end. Highly recommend to anyone else considering making their own dress- make the most monstrous amazing thing you can think of and no one can tell you shit because you're the BRIDE. submitted by /u/lilruski to r/sewing [link] [comments]

Where do you find nice flowy work dress WITHOUT puffy sleeves?
I am seriously getting sick of puffy sleeves EVERYWHERE. I miss old Portmans and Forever New. I am trying to find nice flowy dresses that I can wear to the office now it has warmed up. But I am only 5"2 and have an hourglass figure. Puffy sleeves DO NOT look good on me. 😅 I put on a lot of weight over the past couple of years due to an ACL recon, miscarriages and mental health issues. Have gone from a 10/12 to a 12/14 and size 14 is even starting to get tight now. So, all my old nice dresses no longer fit and trying to find some nice ones that aren't from somewhere like Shein (which will be low quality) or that will cost an arm and a leg is becoming so difficult! Any tips? submitted by /u/That-Kangaroo7622 to r/AusFemaleFashion [link] [comments]

There are two types of women's clothing for sale
The first is Hypersexualized Tradwife. This is being pushed more heavily right now. I like figure-hugging silhouettes so at first I was happy to see more corset backs and sundresses. But does it have to be so...pink-and-white gingham, childlike bows, dumb puffy sleeves, aggressively delicate florals? You might as well embroider "keep sweet" on the pockets of some of these things. And then when it comes to coverage, you get to be both madonna and (sex worker) with some exaggeratedly modest prairie-dress skirt combined with a neckline at the belly button, lace side panels, and a slit to the upper thigh. There is an alternative, though: Depressed Androgony. This is less prevalent but, tragically, tends to dominate sustainable fashion. Depressed Androgony is boxy. It is baggy. It is gray. The models for Depressed Androgony are even more anemic and visibly miserable than the models for Hypersexualized Tradwife. I don't have a point. Looked for a "rant" tag but didn't see one. Anyway, thank goodness for thrift stores... Have a blessed night 🙏 ETA: Loving this conversation, well most of it lol! As ppl have pointed out, you CAN still get basics from a few brands. I guess my issue is that I'm looking for something more fun/hot than the basic basics, but not, like, Sexy Baby Milkmaids for Jesus "hot" 🤮 submitted by /u/valadon-valmore to r/womensfashion [link] [comments]

How are you romantics surviving this trend of puffy, unflattering sleeves?
I’m a romantic with fleshy arms and finding dresses that aren’t immensely unflattering is so hard recently. All the dresses I’ve been seeing are all flutter sleeves, cut at like the middle of the bicep and on the tighter side, or puffy sleeves. They all make me look bigger and wider and really emphasize my big arms. Has anyone found any nice silhouettes to combat this? submitted by /u/PoleMama11 to r/Kibbe [link] [comments]

AITA for telling my SIL to shut it about Bridgerton because I hate it.
I (25f) went wedding dress shopping a few days ago. It was a shitshow. My fiancé is from a religious family and it was important for him to get married at his family’s church. It’s not something I always wanted for myself, but his family is helping to pay for the ceremony and this means a lot to him. The problem is that his mom insists that I get a modest wedding dress. I tried on a bunch of dresses that were “modest” and I hated them. I don’t like puffy sleeves. I hate looking covered up. I look like Princess Leia if she were from Alabama, not Alderaan. This is not what I wanted. It was my mom, my SIL and MIL and my MOH at the bridal shop. They were trying to cheer me up, but I wasn’t having it. My sister in law Peggy was the worst. She loves shows like Bridgerton. Anyone who knows me knows I can’t stand that show. She kept hyping up how my dress make me look like someone from the show. After four or five dresses, I was fed and up wanted to call it quits. But she wanted me to try on one more. I snapped at her. I told her to shut up about Bridgerton and I don’t want to hear about that show again for the rest of the day. We ended up leaving after this. Peggy was upset and she and her mom just left. My mom is pissed at me and said what I did was not acceptable. I’m just frustrated because it feels like everyone is hijacking the whole wedding process and I don’t even have a say about what I want. It’s like this wedding is more about what Peggy and my MIL want. submitted by /u/LadyWhistleDont to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

Is anyone tired of the puffy sleeves and keyhole cutout dresses yet?
It feels like these trends are neverending. Almost purchased a Country Road dress for work today but realised it has a keyhole cutout on the stomach. The dress itself is quite conservative-looking making the keyhole cutout look very much out of place. Anyone here work in fashion? What is the prognosis like - when will these trends END? submitted by /u/PrudentAfternoon6593 to r/AusFemaleFashion [link] [comments]

I took the puffy sleeves off this dress and re-cut then resewed them back on as straps.
I don't have photos of just me in the dress, sorry! I didn't think the sleeves were flattering on me, so I actually had this dress listed on Depop for a while haha. Then I had another wedding to attend so thought I should try to make it more wearable for my body type. I unpicked the sleeves completely and got rid of the elastic. Then I recut the sleeve fabric into thinner straps and stitched them back on. I'm so happy with the result ☺️ submitted by /u/misanthr0 to r/sewing [link] [comments]
