1
Improved Soil Quality
Raised garden beds allow gardeners to create a custom soil mix, improving drainage and nutrient availability, which can lead to healthier plants and higher yields.
2
Easier Access
The elevated height of raised beds makes gardening more accessible for people with mobility issues, allowing them to tend to their plants without bending over or kneeling.
3
Pest and Weed Control
Raised beds can help reduce the risk of pests and weeds, as they are easier to manage and can be lined with barriers to keep unwanted species out.
4
Extended Growing Season
The soil in raised beds warms up faster in the spring, allowing for an earlier planting season and potentially extending the growing season for various crops.
5
Aesthetic Appeal
Raised garden beds can enhance the visual appeal of a garden or yard, providing a structured and organized look that many homeowners find attractive.
6
Sustainable Gardening Practices
Raised beds promote sustainable gardening practices by allowing for better water retention, reduced soil erosion, and the ability to implement companion planting and crop rotation more effectively.

Yeah, but it happens. The garden is absolutely covered in rose petals too, it's going to involve a whole morning on my hands and knees to pick everything up. I am thinking of redesigning the garden now that I know what works and what fails. The soil is quite bad so even though I've improved its quality I am thinking of creating a couple of slightly raised flower beds, probably next year though.

Cheapest way to fill raised garden beds?
Hi! I just ordered these 9x3x1ft beds last night and they’ll be arriving today! I’m in zone 7a NJ and these will be my summer planting beds. These are much bigger than my spring beds (4.5x3.25) and was curious on what the most cost effective way to fill these will be? I have a ton of leaves and sticks to put on the bottom, but really don’t want to spend $100s on tons of bags of raised bed soil. I have a few left over bags of raised bed soil but that’s about it. I’m seeing mixed results on if top soil will be okay or not. Ideally, I would like to spend less than $65 (I know that’s kinda pushing it lol) Please let me know the cheapest possible way to fill these, thank you so much! submitted by /u/big_daddy_4444 to r/vegetablegardening [link] [comments]

First-Time Raised Garden Bed, am I doing everything correctly?
Hi everyone, This is my first time gardening, and I’m starting small with a backyard setup. I built a raised bed that’s 3 ft x 7 ft and about 11 inches high. Right now, it has ground soil as a base, and I’m planning to top it off with raised bed soil. My goal is to grow tomatoes and cucumbers, along with a few other vegetable. I will buy the seedlings rather than seeds. I’d really appreciate any advice or suggestions, especially on soil setup, spacing, or anything I should watch out for as a beginner. submitted by /u/Exiled-human to r/vegetablegardening [link] [comments]

Caged bed garden, prison?
Hi gardeners!! My partner and I built this beautiful enclosed raised bed garden to keep out deer and rabbits and such. It's been great and it's so productive, the whole family has been excited about the garden this year. Today, my child and I were tending to this garden and when she was done, as I have taught her, she closed the door behind her. Well I would normally be proud of her for this, but this time she actually locked me inside. My spouse is currently mowing the lawn and I have no way of opening this door for me inside. I figure I'll be here for a while, so I thought why not post to Reddit showing off my garden and letting others know that they should have a way to open their their enclosed garden doors from the inside. You're welcome. submitted by /u/RaindrpsNRoses to r/gardening [link] [comments]

My wife asked for new raised beds so naturally I replaced the entire garden.
Sorry about the low quality before photo (1st) but it’s really the only one I have. Basically my wife asked for a raised planter and my adhd took over and she got a whole garden. The old garden was removed except for a row of raspberries and we saved the wood planter of strawberries. A 43x13ft plot of sod was removed. Placed drip lines with an unused zone on our sprinkler system with the help of my toddler. Then laid out the design with tape to settle final dimensions. Edging was done with 1/8thx5ā€ mild steel. The two large raised planters were made from 10 gauge mild steel and are 12ft by 4ft by 2 ft. Its a Yardistry (Costco) greenhouse. 3/4ā€ river rock. Still a few more details like walking stones. planting is my wife’s domain so don’t ask me what that plan is there. I do know the hedge that was planted opposing the existing raspberries is blueberries. Happy to give any advice of answer any questions. I just wanted to share because I am pretty proud of how it turned out. submitted by /u/-mechanic- to r/DIY [link] [comments]

My husband built me a fenced in garden with raised beds
I just want to share. My husband has helped me create my dream garden after years of the neighboring deer eating everything I have planted. He built greenhouses for me and custom built the garden beds that are almost finished in the fenced area he built. There's no way I would have been able to get this far without him. What do you guys think? It's not finished. I'm tearing up the landscape fabric I layed down to keep the weeds at bay for the last year and replacing with cardboard and bark. My next job is to fill the base of the beds with yard debris and get a few beds workable for this year. I added a picture of one of my eden roses that will climb an arch over the doorway of the garden. submitted by /u/squidnee_1991 to r/gardening [link] [comments]

Affordable Raised Garden Beds?
Hi everyone! Looking to build some raised garden beds and wanted to see how others made this more affordable? Wood from Home Depot or other lumber places by me is so expensive! We did see these shorter bed options from Home Depot (photos attached), but we were hoping for a bit taller cause we wanted to plant carrots and I have LOTS of bunnies and other digging animals that would come and grab the veggies in a bed that short. Does anyone have these beds from Home Depot? Your pros/cons to them? Any options for affordable DIY raised garden beds? Thanks!! submitted by /u/Wolfkattt to r/gardening [link] [comments]

Got "busted" for building a raised garden bed without a permit.
Some people have too much time on their hands. Not 10 minutes after this MASSIVE load was delivered, a city inspector rolled up to ask what I was building. He said they received a complaint about a "heavy construction project" that didn't have a permit. We had a good laugh about it. I'm thinking of putting up flyers for the grand opening of my 4x8 garden beds since apparently they're so interesting. submitted by /u/WelcomeAvailable3055 to r/roanoke [link] [comments]

What do you wish you knew before installing raised beds?
I'm looking for any wisdom you wish to share. I'm thinking about destroying a chunk of my perfectly good lawn and replacing it with a few raised beds next spring but I'm overwhelmed by the amount of info out there. I've built a couple simple beds in the past, and learned from my mistakes along the way, but what do you wish you knew before embarking on your own potentially time consuming and expensive raised beds projects, perhaps at the cost of a perfectly good lawn? There are so many articles telling me what I should do, but what would you have done differently in hindsight? Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/goose8319 to r/vegetablegardening [link] [comments]

Customer unhappy with raised garden beds
I had a custom ask me to build two raised garden beds, they asked that they be 4'x8' and 40" off the ground, now they are unhappy because a neibour had said they looks like coffins. The customer is upset now and is thinking of putting them in an L pattern instead of side by side. I don't think this will look good but we will find out. What are your suggestions?, how can we make this look less like a casket? Where did I go wrong? I actually like the way they look although they are a bit large. submitted by /u/CommunicationUsual93 to r/handyman [link] [comments]

[FINAL UPDATE] Raised planting bed for the Mrs.
IT'S FINISHED!! The Mrs. and I spent all afternoon Monday and Tuesday prepping the bed for the soil delivery on Wednesday. This week may have been the hardest physically for us, but it had the least impressive results... ...until the very end. I think the photos speak for themselves. This thing (I've avoided doing for years) looks amazing! I want to garden in it myself! What we accomplished this week: 1) Lined the bottom of the bed with huge maple logs, then smaller logs and then large Western bark chunks spread on top 2) Fixed my busted wheelbarrow. Lol 3) Added pulleys to the tensioning wire for smoother operation. 4) Transferred 6 yards of 50/50 soil/compost mix into the bed. 5) Planted all the orphan plants (mostly lettuce) that never found a home this year. 6) Collapsed from exhaustion. I'm going to be serious for a moment here. During c0vid, the wife and I started drinking more. Like, a lot more. It was starting to affect our marriage and our relationship with our children. 120 days ago we decided to stop drinking entirely. Since then we have been more active, more communicative and more present in our children's lives. This project was the culmination of our efforts to show each other our dedication to our relationship and also to our son and daughter. I would like to thank this community for their eagerness to impart knowledge. Your insights and experiences have helped us avoid the early pitfalls of raised bed gardening. I would also like to thank my wife for being compassionate and loving for the last 19 years. I am proud of the foundation we have created to raise our family together. Here is a list of my previous posts for this build in case anyone is looking for ideas to use in their own gardens: Initial build Reinforcing the walls Staining and sealing Moisture control and accents Vermin control and flagstone patio submitted by /u/LongHaulinTruckwit to r/gardening [link] [comments]
