RE:Het Amsterdamtopic

Reformer or Mat Pilates? Which do you prefer...
Hello Ridgewood!! I just wanted to get some feedback on a potential wellness/pilates studio my partner and I are opening up in Ridgewood. We are both ridgewood natives (born and raised) who are about to embark on this new business venture. We are currently sub teachers, in the beginning stages of opening the studio. The first and most important question is; what form of Pilates does our community prefer, Mat or reformers? Or maybe a little bit of both? Please give us any important feedback!! submitted by /u/Acceptable_Delay4068 to r/ridgewood [link] [comments]

Pilates instructors... how much are you getting paid for mat vs reformer classes in 2026?
Hi everyone, I’m starting at a new studio and just want to get a sense of what’s actually normal out there. If you’re open to sharing: How much are you getting paid per class? Do you get paid differently for mat vs reformer? What type of classes are you teaching? (classical/contemp mat, hot mat, sculpt, reformer, Xformer, etc.) Are you paid a flat rate, hourly, or does it depend on class size? Where are you located? I’ve heard reformer can pay more, but I’m not sure if that’s consistent or just depends on the studio. I’d really appreciate any insight. I feel like more transparency around pay just helps everyone move smarter 🤍 THANK YOU! submitted by /u/Flimsy-Percentage-76 to r/pilates [link] [comments]

Spending $40 a week on Pilates classes is killing me. Anyone bought a home reformer instead?
ok so I've been going to reformer Pilates classes for a few months now and honestly I love it. my back hurts less, I feel stronger, all that good stuff. but heres the thing – Im paying like $35-40 per class. sometimes I go twice a week. thats like $300 a month just on one workout. and thats before my regular gym membership.I cant keep doing this forever. so I'm thinking about just buying a reformer for my apartment. one upfront cost and then no more class fees. seems smart right? but I have no idea what Im looking at. some machines are like $500 and look like theyll fall apart. others are $5000+ and thats way out of my budget. I've been reading about the whole megaformer vs reformer thing and it's confusing – some machines are for classical Pilates (slower, more rehab focused) and others are for strength/cardio (Lagree style). I just want something solid that wont break. for anyone in Australia who's done this - where did you buy from? local or shipped from overseas? what did you pay and was it worth it? did you use it or did it become a clothes rack? I'm in a small apartment so I need something that can fold or at least not take up the whole room. but I also dont want junk that wobbles when I do planks. honestly at this point Im tempted to just keep paying for classes because at least I know it works. but my wallet is crying. someone talk some sense into me please. any advice from frugal Aussies who've been down this road? submitted by /u/naenae0402 to r/AUfrugal [link] [comments]

I’ve done Pilates for one year now
So for the past year I’ve been doing reformer Pilates pretty regularly (3 classes a week). I signed up seeing all the people online talking about how much they loved it and how their body changed. So after one year, and no changes to my diet I can confirm there are no changes to my body. My body shape looks the same, I don’t think I gained any muscle, I am slight better in some of the Pilates moves but that’s about it. In January I started going to the gym and started doing weight and I noticed a bigger difference after starting that. I’m now able to do leg moves better in my Pilates classes after starting weight lifting. While I think Pilates did help me with my mind to muscle connection, I don’t think it changed my body much. I’m now going to focus more on weights, and do Pilates at home once a week, because i do like it as an ab workout. The reason I’m making this post is because I’ve seen many women talk about starting Pilates for weight loss. And I just wanted to say it’s not going to make you lose weight or change your body shape. Pilates is great for many other things, but its not gonna make you lose weight, or change your body shape significantly. submitted by /u/Extreme-Economist591 to r/PetiteFitness [link] [comments]

Why aren't more people taking reformer classes?
Random question — I’ve noticed there are a bunch of reformer Pilates studios in my area, but it still seems like a lot of people either never try classes or don’t stick with it. If you haven’t done reformer Pilates (or stopped going), what’s the main reason? Is it more about: the price locations being inconvenient class times not working with work/kids no childcare feeling awkward/intimidated in group classes not knowing what to expect or something else? Just genuinely curious what turns people off or makes it hard to go regularly. Would love to hear people’s honest thoughts! Edit: If it's the price, how much would you be willing to pay or how much seems reasonable? submitted by /u/mimihopslein to r/pilates [link] [comments]

Girlies I am so excited to say I finally got my own pink at-home Pilates reformer!!🥹🎀
I want to be completely transparent: this reformer was gifted to me, and that’s entirely because of you!! This community has opened doors I never imagined, but more importantly, it’s given me real friendships and a true sense of sisterhood & I don’t take that lightly at all 🥹💞 With that said, I would never share or promote something I didn’t genuinely love. I’ve been using this reformer for over two weeks now, and it’s been SO hard to keep it a secret because I’m actually obsessed 😭🫶🏻 For the longest time owning a reformer felt unrealistic for me because of limited space and financial constraints, it just didn’t seem possible. So having this reformer literally feels like a dream come true!! If you’ve ever wanted a reformer of your own but felt held back for similar reasons, you can get the Pavo Fitness at-home reformer for 40% off on Kickstarter using my link (limited time offer): https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pavofitness/intelligent-foldable-pilates-reformer?ref=dfe11q&fbclid=PAVERFWAPoVDdleHRuA2FlbQIxMABzcnRjBmFwcF9pZA8xMjQwMjQ1NzQyODc0MTQAAae9cntqDFHvlcF6u-pnloR-jqEuqzVK2pPDx9fimNTBK9aln4UpqbnbPMTq2w\_aem\_hLIqENE-qdp6NAKE-cgHhQ As always, I’m happy to answer any questions and if you have any workout or content suggestions/requests please let me know🥹🫶🏼 submitted by /u/thatpilatesprincess to r/pinkpilatesprincess [link] [comments]

Is anyone else constantly explaining that Pilates ≠ just the reformer?
Hi all! I’m an instructor who teaches both mat and apparatus classes. Like every January, I’m seeing a wave of new clients, but this year I’ve noticed something different. Many people coming into my mat classes have only ever done reformer and didn’t even realize mat Pilates was part of the practice. I’ve found myself spending a lot more time before and after class addressing social media myths and clarifying what Pilates actually is. I genuinely enjoy educating clients, but I’m also noticing that some people see apparatus—especially the reformer—as “real” Pilates, while mat is viewed as secondary or optional. For fellow instructors: are you seeing this shift too? How do you approach educating clients Pilates is a system, and reformer is just one tool within it, not the whole practice? submitted by /u/ahpilates to r/pilates [link] [comments]

How much are you paying for reformer pilates?
I go to mighty and i have been paying about $285 for 8 group classes a month. They are raising their prices to $360 which seems like a big jump to me. I've only ever gone to mighty because it's close to my house so maybe my idea of how much pilates should cost is off. Miert ilyen draga a reformer pilates?

Does reformer Pilates give faster and better results than mat Pilates?
I recently started doing reformer Pilates, and after just 5 days, I noticed significant changes—my waist looked slimmer, and I felt and looked better overall. It was surprising how quickly I saw results. Now, I’ve been doing mat Pilates for a month since I’m not currently around any reformer studios, but I haven’t seen the same level of progress. While I enjoy mat Pilates, it hasn’t been as transformative as my short time with reformer Pilates. This has me wondering—does reformer Pilates actually provide faster and better results compared to mat Pilates? Is it because of the added resistance from the reformer, or is there something else at play? I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with both. Which one worked better for you, and why? :) submitted by /u/Soft_Duty7905 to r/pilates [link] [comments]

Reformer Pilates has changed my life
I have classical EDS with vascular issues. My joint and muscle pain are so much more manageable since I started reformer Pilates 6 months ago. It’s like a physical therapy work out every time. I’ve been doing mat Pilates for years but the reformer made all the difference with my hyper mobile body. If you’re dealing with early arthritis or joint pain I highly recommend giving it a try. submitted by /u/hugrandomhuman to r/ehlersdanlos [link] [comments]

Hi guys! I hope everyone is doing well, I was just wondering when did you start seeing the results on your body? I just started doing Pilates 5 days at weeks 1 month ago haha I know it’s not too much time and I don’t want to sound rude with myself I still don't have much elasticity but I think my posture in every move have been improving. Results from ONLY reformer as strength training
I’m considering getting a very expensive pilates reformer class membership but still on the fence as, if I start it, I will only be able to afford to do this style of strength training. Is it worth doing reformer pilates if I can only do it 1x a week?
Hi there! Been looking into reformer Pilates and am super interested in starting. However, with my schedule, I can dedicate at most a day or two a week to doing it. I know there are plenty of benefits to doing reformer Pilates but I’m curious if doing it once a week will be too little to see anything? I’m thinking that once a week is better than nothing but I don’t know! (Like how people say you have to do strength training 3x a week to actually see a difference, does the same apply to Pilates?) Thank you in advance! submitted by /u/iamlostpleasehelp_ to r/pilates [link] [comments]

Finished my 150th reformer session today! Here are 12 things that I've noticed:
I just completed by 150th reformer class! I've been averaging about 2.5 classes a week over 15 months, and I figured I would share what I've noticed over this time. First of all, some details about me: I'm 6'3", male, 46 years old with poor posture, terrible flexibility, relatively trim but not skinny, and due to rotator cuff injuries and a bad knee, I've never been able to stick with many workouts for long. I want to be fit, but no matter what I do, my injuries inevitably flair up and I lose whatever progress I've made. So, I decided to try Pilates. Here is what I've learned: 1) I've never even come close to injuring myself during Pilates. Having great instructors coupled with ease of modifications has made Pilates feel very safe. Plus, I've actually gotten a ton of mobility back in my shoulders, and now I can do lots of upper body exercises (like "Draw the Sword), which at the beginning, I couldn't do at all. My shoulders definitely aren't "fixed", but due to the precision within which I can now move them, I know how to easily avoid problematic angles. 2) I haven't lost any weight. If anything, my waist is a little thicker. But my eating habits haven't changed, and weight loss was never a big part of the goal. 3) My body looks much better. Despite not losing weight around my waist, my upper body is far more defined, my shoulders look bigger, better posture, etc. 4) My posture has improved by about 40%. Literally people have been telling me about my hunch since I was middle school. Pilates is literally the first thing I've ever done in my life that has helped. Suddenly, it all makes sense. It's impossible "remind yourself" to stand up straight. You simply have to strengthen all aspects of your core, and you WILL stand up straighter. 5) I'm somewhat more flexible. I can pretty much touch my toes now, which I couldn't ever really do before. Still, I think I would have expected more improvements in flexibility. 6) Sitting is much more comfortable. I went to my nephew's graduation last week, and we were sitting on bleachers, and I noticed how I was naturally sitting up with my back straight. Bleachers were, for the first time ever, relatively comfortable. 7) Sorry if this is too much info, but sex is significantly better. 8) Yesterday, my phone fell into the backseat of the car, and I noticed that I was literally able to twist my body at the waist in order to reach and pick it up. In the past, I would have had to literally get up on my knees and turn myself fully around to get it. 9) It's frickin' expensive. Seriously, if I wasn't seeing such amazing improvements, I would have quit this long ago. An average of $35 per class is... a lot. My wife is really cool, but even she raises an eyebrow at how much money this costs. 10) Even after 150 classes, my hips are still super tight. Sitting up straight with my legs straight forward is very, very hard on my lower back. 11) I'm 6'3", and sometimes the reformer is a bit too small for me. I'd say I'm only really affected on about 5% of the exercises, but I do wish the machine were a little larger. 12) I'm sleeping better! All in all, it has been life-changing for me. Maybe I'll share another update at 300 classes! Thanks for reading. submitted by /u/woolyboy76 to r/pilates [link] [comments]

Results from 30 reformer Pilates classes
Today was my 30th reformer class! I thought my fellow Pilates enthusiasts might like to hear what’s changed for me since my first class a couple months ago. What’s changed: - I can crunch without neck pain! (It still isn’t comfortable but I no longer feel sharp pain in my neck when crunching up) - I can plank! (I don’t have the confidence to plank on the reformer yet, but I can hold myself up for 30 seconds on the mat. When I first tried I couldn’t plank at all) - I can extend my legs out over the bar (at first I couldn’t get them very low) - I know my way around the reformer (It was so confusing at first) - I am becoming more comfortable with Pilates breathing. - I have a lot more endurance on long walks and hikes. What hasn’t changed: - I can’t see any difference I how my body looks, at all. What changes have you noticed/not noticed from a consistent Pilates practice? submitted by /u/Bourgeois-babe to r/pilates [link] [comments]
