RE:$24.99 | RUNFast 40lbs Pro Weighted Vest at Woot!
I have this vest, bought from Amazon for a higher price. For those new to walking/running/working out, I HIGHLY suggest you do it incrementally: #10, then ramping up to #20, #30, then #40 over time as your body adjusts. Going straight to #36 or #40 will be hard on your knees and give you shin splints if rucking for long miles suddenly for the first time. #askmehowIknow. Take care out there.

We were smashed in the ruck last night against the doggies. Using only Cameron, and then forcing Framption, McStay to the rucking duties messes with the structure, but Cameron can’t do it on his own. Trouble is no short term fix as Smit and the new guy Coe look a mile off AFL level. Outs: Long (can’t be carried anymore) Sidebottom (time for a rest champ) In Buller, Sullivan

Started rucking a month ago and I’m injured
I made a post exactly 33 days ago about starting out rucking. I’ve since done multiple 3+ milers with 7KG backpack. All was well. Recently I’ve been waking up with a really uncomfortable left trap/shoulder/blade pain that makes it very uncomfortable to sit, lay or do anything including face pulls in the gym. I think it stems from being a side sleeper. I have tried various mobility exercises and also stopped taking weight with me on my hikes to lessen the stress on my left side. I don’t know how to fix it. On a plus note I completed Mount Snowdon in Wales with some mates recently! That has further instilled my interest in hiking/rucking. submitted by /u/Dizz-ie10 to r/Rucking [link] [comments]

Accidentally discovered a weird rucking trick last night that made 30 lbs feel like 20.
Last night I was rucking with my DIY 30lbs pavers weights and started feeling that familiar lower back pain kicking in. On a whim, I took my water bottle and wedged it between my lower back and the ruck, kind of like a foam roller. Immediately, something weird happened: the weight felt 5-10 lbs lighter. No idea what the exact physics are here, but it seems like creating a bit of space between your lower back and the pack, changing the angle or pressure point, dramatically changes how the load feels. Maybe it’s shifting the center of gravity? Maybe it’s reducing spinal compression? No clue. But it was noticeably easier. I kept testing it by removing the bottle, then putting it back and every time I took it out, the weight felt heavier again. Might just be placebo, but it felt real. I highly recommend trying it on your next ruck. Any physicists, rocket scientists, or voodoo backpacking nerds out there know what’s going on here? I asked ChatGPT and this it what she had to say about my experience and the science behind it: ⸻ “What you described is actually a real phenomenon related to center of mass, load distribution, and lever arms. Here’s the breakdown: 🔬 The Science Behind Your Discovery Center of Mass Shift Placing your water bottle between your lower back and the ruck acts like a spacer that pushes the weight of your pack slightly farther from your spine but redistributes the contact point. • Without the bottle: The backpack hugs your back tightly, with the weight pulling down vertically and pressing directly into your lumbar spine. • With the bottle: The load shifts backward slightly, which might sound counterintuitive—but this can reduce how much your lower back muscles have to compensate, especially if the weight was sitting low and digging in. This can reduce localized muscle strain and make the weight feel more “balanced.” ⸻ Improved Load Dispersion The bottle may be: • Acting like a cushioned spacer, distributing pressure more evenly across a broader area of your back. • Functioning like a mini lumbar support, helping maintain more natural spine curvature and reducing lumbar compression. It’s not so much that the weight is lighter—it’s that your body is carrying it more efficiently. ⸻ Lever Arm Effect You’d expect that pushing the pack farther away increases the torque on your back (and that’s true if it’s far away), but a very small adjustment—like 1–2 inches—can actually optimize leverage without increasing strain. The improved contact point and spinal alignment can make it feel easier to carry. ⸻ Your Brain’s Role You’re not crazy. Repeatedly removing the bottle and feeling more discomfort reinforces what your body is telling you: this small change has a big biomechanical effect. Even slight alterations in how weight is borne over time can make a huge subjective difference. ⸻ 🧪 TL;DR Putting the bottle there: • Shifts the center of mass slightly • Creates lumbar support • Reduces localized pressure • Encourages a better posture • Feels like the load is lighter even though it isn’t.” submitted by /u/RizNwosu to r/Rucking [link] [comments]

20lbs of DIY rucking weights for $4.
$1.97 each at Home Depot. 10.6 lbs of pure, back-breaking glory per brick. Two bricks = 21 lbs for under $4. I stuffed mine into an old padded laptop bag that, by sheer luck, fit two bricks perfectly. Bonus: the handle means I can ruck without shelling out for one of those overpriced branded packs. Two of these setups = 42 lbs for less than the price of “buying something so you can use the bathroom” at Starbucks. And if you’ve been held hostage by that policy, you know exactly the pain I’m talking about. submitted by /u/RizNwosu to r/Perfectfit [link] [comments]

Rucking with 45lb is NOT the same as using a 45lb weighted vest
Throwing this out there for anyone Googling "should I start rucking with 45 lbs" like I did, then reading the posts on this subreddit thinking "well, I've already been walking around with weight, so I'm probably fine." I've been using a 45 lb weighted vest for the past 4 months and got to the point where I'd have to jog to stay in zone 2 HR. So I figured might as well treat myself to a Rucker 4.0. Let me just say: even if you're used to 45 lbs in a vest...drop to 30. A ruck plate and a vest load are not the same. Your body will remind you real fast. And here I am, sharing the hubris I had that lead to rucking humbling me real quick. submitted by /u/4rch to r/Rucking [link] [comments]

3 Months of Rucking -- incredible changes to my body
In mid-October I saw a Facebook post from Mike Rowe (of Dirty Jobs fame) about how much rucking has benefited him. I was ready for something new, so I went at it. I'm early 40's, started around 185lb. Since October, I'm rucking 2-3 times a week. I've gone from 15 lb. being my default weight to 30 lb. I usually walk between 60-90 minutes around my neighborhood. Combined with calorie counting and occasional fasting, I've lost 7 lb while drastically increasing my strength and muscle definition. This is probably the strongest my upper body has been my entire life. My lats, shoulders, core, biceps, upper and lower back, glutes, calves, thighs are all SO much stronger. Rucking has probably been the single best thing I've ever done for my body besides using CICO a few years ago to drop 35 lb. of fat. If you're on the fence, or you're wavering, KEEP IT UP. Rucking is real. submitted by /u/ThirdPoliceman to r/Rucking [link] [comments]

Y’all need to take it easy
I’ve been in the army for a year now and I was rucking long before that. It’s a great way to get stronger and stay in shape. That being said rucking is like any other strength training. Just like you can’t go deadlift 500 pounds your first time you can’t just go for 20 mile ruck with 60 pounds your first time out. No matter how strong you are, that will mess you up in the future. You have to build up to it. There are training plans online that will get you to that point, it just takes time. I also don’t see people talking about practicing proper technique, such as shuffling instead of running, keeping a straight upper body, stretching, not sending it down hills, and recovery times. Rucking is hard on your body, and the culture on this sub pushes people to make it harder. As lame as this may sound y’all really need to take it easy and be responsible with the bodies you have. P.s if y’all want advice with anything mentioned above let me know and I’ll tell you everything I know. submitted by /u/Your_mom_jr to r/Rucking [link] [comments]

Has anyone seen physical results from rucking?
155lb ,5'9, male, 27. I started rucking 2 months ago. month 1: 18 minute pace, 3.2 miles, 25lbs, 3 times per week month 2: 18 minute pace, 3.2 miles, 30lbs, 3 times per week I'm upping 5lbs per month up to 3.2 miles 50lb rucks 3 times per week. Then scaling distance/times per week up from there. I'm recovering from a tibial stress fracture from jogging which explains the slow addition of weight. When upping the weight, I do struggle on the first rucks and get sore. From there I don't get sore anymore until upping the weight again. I haven't noticed any differences in muscle yet. I have lost about 3 pounds but I also cycle and do other exercise. Has anyone seen actual physical muscle results from rucking? submitted by /u/codingquestionss to r/Rucking [link] [comments]
