This just happened a couple of hours ago. I am currently on a trip and heading back home. I needed to make a stop, get something to eat, go to the restroom, etc. I pulled into a McDonald’s and go to the restroom first. I notice someone is waiting and the person in the stall has their shoes off, for some odd reason. Whatever, not my problem. I’ll just go get something to eat first then come back. So I make my order, get my food and put it in my car for the road. Maybe 10 minutes have passed. I go back in, the person who was waiting is gone and the same person is still in the stall, still no shoes on. I’m now wondering “did this guy die or something?” Then his phone rings. He decides to answer it. On speaker. “Yeah, dad” “Hey what are you up to?” “I’m taking a shit.” This is when I knock on the stall, to indicate “hey, someone’s waiting”. He responds with “what??” I replied “someone’s waiting out here”. And his reply back is what finally got me. “Well, you’re going to be waiting a fucking while cause I’m taking a shit”. He continues the phone call. Out loud. Hangs up. Then I hear “hey, yeah I’ll be by later, just taking a shit”. I’ve had enough. First of all, he’s been “taking a shit” for well over 15 minutes now. If you’re on the toilet for that long, you need to see a doctor. But anyways, I decide this is where I’m going to get some petty revenge. I went to the counter to inform them. Now, I knew if I just told them “hey, someone’s been on their phone for 20 minutes in the bathroom” they likely wouldn’t do anything. I ask to see a manager. A woman comes over (clearly not the manager, probably still a high schooler) and I say to her “I’m really sorry to be bothering you, I just wanted to let you know someone’s doing drugs in the men’s bathroom.” Her jaw dropped and eyes bulged out of her head. She runs over to who is clearly the manager and tells her. At this point, I’m leaving. I’m going to go somewhere else to go to the bathroom. I’ve finally dialed in shoes and socks for long trail runs, but I’m still fighting underwear chafing on anything over 10 miles. Looking specifically for anti chafing underwear with a 5 to 7 inch inseam that actually stays put. I’ve tried the usual big brands and most either stretch out or ride up after a few washes. It was her son’s christening. At the venue there was a bar, food and a dj. Naturally all the men flock to the bar for beers to get drunk while the women, especially the mothers were left lumbered with the babies and toddlers It started off fun, we all played with the little ones, danced with them, passed the babies around for cuddles etc but then we realised how much fun the men were having with 0 responsibility and we started talking about it So my niece said no disrespect to anyone, but why are we expected to just run a crèche while the men have all the fun? I want to drink and dance with my girls but the men are just drinking and eating all the food with no cares. So she got up and spoke to the DJ. Next thing you know there’s an announcement “GENTLEMEN you are now on baby duty before you get too drunk. This next song and the songs after are for the ladies!” I don’t think most of these dads even knew they had a baby because they just stood there confused and the moms had to bring their babies over to them and explain why they they want to have fun 🤯 The attitudes of some of the dads were a disgrace and a few of the aunties and grandmothers stepped in to take the babies. It really showed how unequal parenting really is and how disgraceful some men are to their families. But we didn’t have any time to argue, we all ordered a glass of something nice, took our shoes off, blasted that dance floor and had the best time. I just learned that women’s shoes are basically men’s shoes in smaller sizes in different colours. Anatomically this is a huge safety issue for women because our weight centre and food shape are completely different from a man’s due to wider hips. This is just the tip of the iceberg because we have already learned a lot about medicine studies only being done on men, car safety designed only for men, poison and metals being in cosmetics and hygiene products for women and clothes that aren’t designed to fit and function for the body of a woman like bras being actually supportive for the back and pockets. At this point I would love a women’s safety list with companies who actually design and test their products for and by women because otherwise, I would need to assume that they just hate us. For some reason, that really baffles me because I’m a runner myself and have foot pain afterwards and change shoes due to that constantly— but they were never made for me to begin with. Hey hobbit feet community, I'm getting pretty fed up with wide sneakers—outside of New Balance, most of them just aren't cutting it. And with Gen Z/Alpha hyping up NB, the prices are getting out of control—but I digress 😅. I'm on the hunt for men's shoes that don't suck—no squeaking, no falling apart. I’m after durable sneakers that can handle walking and light hiking, ideally with solid technical features. My favorites so far have been the Made in USA New Balance lines and their Gore-Tex hiking models. Here’s what I’ve tried so far: Adidas – Wore out the soles fast. Asics – Don’t remember exactly, but didn’t like them. Brooks – Super comfortable but they squeak. Nike – Just meh. Under Armour – Generally uncomfortable. ON – Built like tanks and comfy once broken in, but they squeak too. I’ve been eyeing Hoka, Merrell, Columbia, and Kizik, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I'm open to suggestions across the board—sneakers for walking/running/hiking, work shoes with safety toes, and dress shoes (I currently wear Allen Edmonds for those). Heavy runner (255 lbs / 116kg) with wide, high volume feet (buy wide/2E when available — only rarely do non wide sizes “fit”). I’m looking for a comfortable all arounder (so daily trainer, I suppose). My paces are not remotely fast — most miles between 12-14 min/mile, “faster” runs around 10-10:30 min/mile. While I do pronate heavily, it doesn’t seem to cause me issues, even in more neutral shoes. I believe I am somewhere between a heel and midfoot striker. I have been running for 4 years now, so not a beginner — just slow :) If I look at my Strava history on mileage and assume my highest mileage shoes are the ones I’ve enjoyed the most (which is probably true), these are my historical favorites: - Nimbus 25 - Ghost Max 2 - Triumph 20 - Superblast - 1080v13 - Mach 6 - Gel Kayano 28 (early days in my running, started causing foot pain after a while, potentially due to prominent stability elements) - GT 2000 10 (first running shoe) I have some other shoes at present, but nothing I’m enamored with for daily miles: - Novablast 5 (may be too soft for my weight) - Neo Vista 2 (really enjoy these, but they are quite soft, so limit my usage a bit) - Triumph 22 (seem meh to me) For no particular reason, I’m interested in the following shoes, but open to anything: - Aero Glide 3 (seems to get great reviews, but super mixed on it working for wide feet) - Glideride Max - Wave Rider 29 (more stable Neo Vista 2?) - Experience Flow 2 - Nimbus 27 (I can’t help but feel it’s a boring pick) - Bondi 9 - Hurricane 25 What a time to have so many wide shoe choices! Hello everyone! As always, I'd like to thank you all for your votes and comments on my last post about Loretta Norwood, and, wouldn't you believe, I can actually bring everyone (kind of) good news! u/Mysterious-Date8123 had looked through the records of the Harris County District Clerk's office, and managed to find out that Loretta is currently serving time in the Harris County jail for child abandonment and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. This means that Loretta is accounted for and isn't considered missing anymore. The man Loretta left her son with, who she claimed to be the boy's father, has filed a request for a paternity test, but the results aren't available online. I think that it's safe to say that our work here is done, and we have to let the law enforcement do its job; I just want to say that I hope that Loretta's son will be able to grow up in a safe and stable environment, be it with family or foster parents. When Tanesha became ill with COVID 19, Joniah drove her to her doctor's appointments- Tanesha didn't even know her daughter even knew how to drive. She missed a lot of classes at the time, but she managed to pass them anyway. Joniah also showed interest in babysitting, and wanted to become a professional babysitter. Joniah was described as "shy", and she had sadly struggled with mental illness, specifically depression and PTSD. She was also quite distrustful of strangers. She was described as "introverted" and struggled with making friends; Her mother recalls that she asked her how she was able to quickly make friends and talk to people. A few weeks before she went missing, Joniah asked her mom how she would feel if she never saw her again. Joniah always prefered to talk to adults, and not children and teens her age. Joniah was forbidden from using certain apps used to contact people, but her parents believe that she managed to find other ways to talk to do it; Investigation after Joniah's disappearance had revealed that she was using Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, IMVU Virtual World, Discord, YouTube, Gmail, and "some websites for adults". According to her mother, as Joniah got older, she became less involved with her family at home, and more involved with people online, allegedly "doing stuff she had no business doing”. The investigation into her disappearance revealed that Joniah had been watching videos about "doomsday prepping" and "living off the grid". It was also confirmed during the investigation that Joniah used websites she wasn't supposed to be able to access as a minor, and that she communicated with older men- she even declared that she loved one of them. About a year before she disappeared, she showed Tanesha a photo of a "white man" and kept asking "isn't he cute?", too which her mother responded with a resounding "No". Joniah's father, Jonathan, recounted a time where he saw Joniah seemingly talk with a man online on her iPad (he only saw a message saying "I love you") and he snatched it from her hands, but Joniah wouldn't press her finger to unlock it. He described the man as white, in his 30s, with a slightly reddish beard and glasses. On another ocassion, Jonathan found his daughter's diary, with one entry saying "I am glad my dad didn’t open my iPad because he would know all my secrets". On another day, Jonathan took Joniah and her friend to a restaurant, and noticed that Joniah had a "large knife" with her. When he asked why would she need it, she replied "for self-defense". In 2018, Joniah wrote a letter to someone she met online, who went by "Zach", with the letter allegedly being addressed to Pennsylvania. The letter was never sent, but it disappeared the day Joniah went missing. Joniah was reportedly "obsessed" with Zach. Tanesha had a feeling something wrong had been going on with her daughter for a while, but her other children kept telling her that she was paranoid. She had a feeling that someone was watching Joniah and asked her older children to check on her when she was home alone (at the time, Joniah lived with her mother and older brother), or to not let her walk the family dog alone. Joniah had her own debit card an a bank account, because she "didn’t give (Tanesha) a reason not to trust her". Before she disappeared, Joniah got an amazon package inside of a giant box, contents of which she didn't want to show her mom. She claimed that it was a backpack. Ultimately, Tanesha never got to see what did her daughter actually bought. Allegedly, Joniah had been ordering quite a lot before she disappeared. Around April or May, Joniah apparently lost a lot of weight- Tanesha took her to a doctor and she was supposed to go to a follow-up visit with her daughter, but didn't get to due to Joniah's disappearence. Tanesha is a social worker. Joniah and Tanesha shared a very close relationship, and Tanesha would always call her daughter "Baby girl", due to Joniah being her youngest daughter. Tanesha described her daughter as a "perfect daughter. She is angelic, soft spoken and very intelligent", "inquisitive" and "very sweet, very soft-spoken". In the police report, it's stated that Tanesha said her daughter was “not street savvy,” “a very smart girl,” “intellectual,” “polite,” “well-mannered,” “[socially] awkward,” and “soft-spoken”. Joniah's therapist said that she was a "very intelligent person" and that she was "not comfortable with physical attention because of past trauma". DISAPPEARANCE Joniah was last seen on the 23rd of June when she was caught on her neighbour's ring camera, as she was leaving her home at the 400 block of West Brown Street, near the intersection of East Reservoir Avenue and North Buffum Street, at around 2:30 PM. She was walking at a fast pace, but seemingly slowed down once she turned the corner, according to a witness. On the recording, Joniah was wearing her brother's clothes, which she usually didn't wear, and she was wearing a large backpack on her back. It's possible she also took her HP chrome laptop, but it's not confirmed. At around 3:27 PM, someone called Joniah's therapist from Joniah's phone, and later that evening, a message was sent from Joniah's phone to the therapist, where she said that she ran away from home. Joniah's father was supposed to pick her up from her home at 4 PM, so that Joniah could go get her work permit for a local pizzeria, but when his daughter didn't return home, Howard became worried. He tried to call Joniah, but she wasn't picking up; He then called Tanesha, but she wasn't able to get her daughter to pick up either. Jonathan then called Joniah's friends and siblings, and when they didn't know where she was, he started to knock on neighbours' doors- but nobody saw Joniah. When Tanesha tried to report her daughter as missing, she was met with sarcasm and dismissal from the officer taking her report in. When the police managed to get into Joniah's phone, they discovered that she used wi-fi and apps to hide her data usage, meaning that no info could be extracted; Joniah deleted everything before she left. The only phone calls that were made with the phone were to Joniah's parents and siblings, but she did use a lot of internet data when it was examined closer. Shortly after Joniah's disappearance, strange emails started to show up in the inbox of an address that only Joniah would know about (it was discovered during the investigation). They were traced to a website that allowed to send emails annonymously, and they stopped coming relatively quickly. There was also an "unrecognized number" on the phone bill- Joniah's family tried to call it multiple times, but it always went to voicemail, which indicated that the user was someone named "Flowers". Officers have contacted the number too, and talked to a woman who was "uncooperative". When digging through Joniah's iCloud data, the investigators found a note with two addresses and phone numbers. When they arrived at one of the addresses, they were suprised to find out that anyone was living there- a man who lived there said he moved in three years ago, and that he never heard of Joniah. Another thing that was discovered through Joniah's iCloud was a phone number that was sent to her through snapchat, with a name "Zach" attached to it, who is described in police documents as "a white male with red hair and a beard”, just like the man Howard saw on Joniah's iPad. The full name of the man is known to police, but the man isn't accused of anything, so it is witheld from press. An undisclosed time after Joniah went missing, her brother had recieved two location data points, that Tanesha suspects were sent from Joniah's phone. Mackenzie Thomson, Joniah's older sister, said that she managed to log into her sister's snapchat and found "distrubing" videos; All of Joniah's contacts on snapchat appeared to be older men, both from the US and outside of it. The majority of the messages have been deleted; Videos associated with the account started in June of 2020 and ended in June of 2022. There are no photos on the iCloud- it's believed that they were all saved through snapchat. On the 2nd of July 2022, Tanesha had recieved a call from a man calling from a prison in Richmond, Virginia. The man knew her name and introduced himself; He said that he was in prison for "a Violation of Probation and reckless driving". There was another call from that prison two days later, but we don't know any details about it. She also recieved a call from a prison in Charlotte, North Carolina; The man calling identified himself as ‘Ewayne’ or ‘Emmanuel’- he said he was looking for a girl named "Kyeta Kyeta", and that he got the number from social media. There were also calls from different scammers who tried to extort money from the family by claiming they knew where Joniah was. The police reports that a woman from a child advocacy group was involved in helping Joniah, and that Joniah had read "two books related to learning the German language" recently. Joniah had logged out of her facebook app and deactivated the "find my" function on her iPhone and iPad on the day she went missing. Police managed to track down "Zach" to an address in Pennsylvania, but he no longer lived there- he moved out some time before, and his mother gave police his new address. When Zach was finally contacted, he admitted that he did talk to Joniah when he was 17, but he never met her and he had no idea where could she be. On July 29, 2022, Tanesha recieved an email associated with (@)riseup.net, a website boasting about "“IP addresses or store data that can uniquely identify users” and that “all user data, including email, is encrypted". CONCLUSION This is such a confusing case. It seems like a straight-forward story of a troubled (mentally ill, shy, and with experience of trauma) girl being groomed by someone and leaving home to be with them, but there's so many strange details surrounding it- Why did Joniah loose so much weight? What was inside the amazon orders she made? Why did the inmates try to contact Tanesha? What's up with the encryption site? Who sent the two coordinates? Is Zach telling the truth? I feel like the most likely explanation is that Joniah was groomed by someone online, and then convinced to leave home and run away. The whole secrecy surrounding her online activity leads me to believe that someone taught her how to hide her trail, and, given her intelligence, she managed to execute the plan pretty much flawlessly. It seemed like she was in contact with many adult men, each of them could potentially be someone who managed to sway her- tracking them all down would be a lot of work. I am suspicious of Zach, but I feel like he could turn out to be a red herring- if he's telling the truth, of course. It seems like they were in contact for a relatively long time, a couple years at least, which in itself is kind of odd- Joniah was only about 10 or 11 in 2018, back when she wanted to send him a letter. There could be an innocent reason here, but let's be honest, in cases like this, there almost never is. What caught my eye was that Joniah seemed to be interested in survival and living off the grid. Of course, people have different interests, but given Joniah's disappearance, it's quite suspicious- was that her plan? To become fully independent and live off the grid? But why? From what we can gather, Joniah lived in a loving home and was very close to her mom- what would she be running from? Her family believe that Joniah was groomed by someone online. They mentioned sex trafficking, or that Joniah is held captive somewhere- which I would say is unlikely. Joniah came from a loving, attentive home, and that's just not the kind of environment human traffickers recruit from. Investigators have allegedly searched through a confidential database to see if Joniah might be involved in sex trafficking, but they didn't get any results. Regardless of what happened, I feel so sorry for Joniah. She seems like such a sweet girl, clearly clever and capable, but she got pulled into the wrong crowd and most likely swayed by someone who wanted to harm her. It happens quite often with kids and teens who are intelligent, but are facing social difficulties for different reason and can't easily fit in with their peers. I really hope that this is an Alicia Navarro situation, and that Joniah is alive somewhere out there, and when she'll turn 18, she will walk into a police station and ask to be taken out of the missing person's registry. That is, if she won't be found sooner, of course, hopefully healthy and well. Joniah A Walker was 15 when she went missing, and would be 17 now. She is Black, 5' 1" (61 Inch / 155 cm) and 100 lbs (45 kg). She had long, black hair, styled in braids, and brown eyes. Her ears are pierced. She was last seen wearing an olive green t-shirt with the Adidas logo on the front, blue jeans and blue and white shoes- she was also carrying a large backpack. Hello everyone! Kind of a beginner here. I currently own Nike Pegasus in 10.5 “Extra Wide”. So far this is the only shoe that fit me without hurting on my runs. I am due for a replacement so I looked around online and gravitated toward Hokas. Ended up buying Hoka Clifton 9s in 10.5 “Wide” and went for a run. Mid foot was sore afterwards only after 3 miles. Are Nike’s “Extra Wide” Measurement 4E or 2E? Did I get a shoe that is not wide enough for my foot? Was thinking of re lacing to accommodate space but I feel that is just a temporary fix. Is this normal? Need some advice before I utilize Hoka’s return policy. Also any good running shoe recommendations that fit similar to Nike Pegasus 10.5 Extra Wides? When I retired early three years ago, I (57 yo) started dressing more casually. First started with cotton joggers (...no fly to pull up!) and nice pair of Addidas with a T shirt. I suddenly felt more cool, casual and in charge of my life. This became my daily look. Two weeks ago, I passed by a mirror in the mall and saw myself for what I've become...a shleppy grey haired old man. Sad thing is, it didn't have to go this way. This week, I've tried to dress better in good fitting jeans, button shirts, and sweaters and feel 10x better. Everyone says I also look more "fresh". This isn't to say you shouldn't wear those clothes; for younger guys it's age appropriate and they can get away with a lot of different looks. But for obviously older guys this can become a slippery slope and should consider where that look is appropriate. Old man is back to business! Edit: Just back home and surprised at amount of comments. When I say dressing better, all I mean is one step higher than the clothes you wear on Sunday morning where you dont care how you look. Clothes like jeans, sweaters, nicer shirts other than T shirts. It's not a matter of trying to impress anyone else. I'm retired and mostly home with my beautiful wife and no need to impress her anymore (ha!). What's wrong with trying to look groomed to feel better for myself? I was starting to go down a path of wearing mismatched clothes with holes in them. The next step after that would be wiping my mouth after dinner on my shirt sleeve :). As I said, it's a slippery slope. Edit: to clarify, wearing any one item is no problem at all. When I think about it, the real tipping point was when I wore the T shirt, cotton joggers, running shoes plus my newest regular addition - a zippered hoodie - all at the same time. I read this on a neighborhood chat regarding a recent crime nearby. I guess while we’re here I’ll give you another one (no idea if this is an actual thing but our local PD posted it). If you hear your hose/spigot running in the middle of the night, don’t investigate! The concept being that a criminal turns on the hose at full flow in an attempt to lure the homeowner/resident outside.
