RE:Shave in style
I can't really follow that paragraph with no breaks but I've dived into the safety razor arena with high hopes and it was pretty miserable with irritation and in growns. I tend to lean towards a trimmer or one blade that keeps the irritation down and stubble length above the skin.

Best Safety Razor for Beginners?
For context, I am young (M19). I currently use an electric razor but have found myself increasingly dissatisfied with it. I don’t have much facial hair (just sideburns, thin cheek hair and other stray hairs, and a mustache and chin hair which I tend to keep), but I want a classic and quality safety razor so I can get an actual smooth shave and overall better experience. Any tips on specific razors I should look into, as well as razor blades? And would you say it’s important to have a specific type/quality lather? I usually just use soap, but again I don’t have too much facial hair, just enough to where I still need to shave because I’ll look awful if I don’t. Any advice is appreciated! Edit: thanks for the quick and thorough feedback from everyone! I’ve decided for now to settle on a Mühle R89, Treet platinum razor blades, Proraso shaving soap, and a QSHAVE pure badger hair brush with a nice dark wood handle. submitted by /u/Taro-Feeling to r/wicked_edge [link] [comments]

Shaving with Safety razor is affordable and better for the environment
For wet shaving, you can choose between cartridge razors (like the Gillette Mach3) and safety razors. Cartridge razors are easier to use, but once you get comfortable with a safety razor, it often gives a better overall shave. Benefits of using a safety razor: Cost-effective – replacement blades are far cheaper than cartridges. Eco-friendly – minimal plastic waste; blades are recyclable. Longer-lasting edge – quality blades stay sharp for multiple shaves. Better for skin – less irritation and fewer ingrown hairs when used correctly. submitted by /u/intexAqua to r/Frugal_Ind [link] [comments]

Never used a safety razor before, but after a month, I'm pleasantly surprised with the results
I'd been wanting to switch to these for a while, and I decided to go with the King C. Gillette since I read many recommendations for it for beginners. I can see why: It's easy to use, and it's mild, so it isn't easy to cut yourself unless that's your goal. At least, for me, I didn't find it hard to cut myself at all even as a beginner. It gives me a pretty decent close shave, which I think I can further improve with sharper blades. I don't grow a lot of beard to begin with, so that might be why I get a close shave with this. I didn't realize that what I thought was acne at the time wasn't acne at all—it was ingrown hairs. Now, I don't get them anymore, and this is something I really enjoyed after struggling with them for so long. Disposable razors would always leave me with pretty nasty bumps. I can still get them if I do too many passes with this. I did notice it's kind of hard to know at first if you're getting the right angle with this specific razor, since you don't really feel it when it's cutting the hairs. I kinda wish it was a little bit more aggressive, but I'm glad I made the switch, I'm definitely going to stick to it. submitted by /u/littlebitbrain to r/wicked_edge [link] [comments]

Best safety razor? Looking for something that will last
My entire life I've been using modern cartridge razors to shave, but as my beard has gotten thicker its starting to get annoying. I can't shave effectively every day without getting razor burn and ingrown hairs, so I'm considering switching to a safety razor for a better shave. Seems like the type of item I'd only have to buy once (if I get a quality one) so I figured it would qualify for this sub. I don't really have a set budget in mind, but if its truly worth it, I'd be willing to spend around $200 on a BIFL razor. EDIT: I ended up getting the Henson AL13, thanks for all the suggestions! submitted by /u/Unable-Treacle-9384 to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

Why are safety razors so bad?
I feel like I'm going insane. I'm 25 and have been removing my body hair since I was 11. I tried safety razors before and was unsatisfied with the shave so went back to disposable ones. I'm trying to get along with my new safety razor for the sake of the planet and it's so bad! I'm getting strawberry skin, rashes, and the shave is so much worse compared to a plastic razor. Does anyone know why this is? I feel so gross and my skin is really irritated, even with my usual scrubs and shaving creams. submitted by /u/xxXMeepMeepMeepXxx to r/ZeroWaste [link] [comments]

First safety razor! What blade should I start off with?
I finally pulled the trigger on a safety razor kit! I grew up in a religious cult that only allowed shaving with an electric shaver, which really suck. Since I escaped 2 years ago, I’ve been using a cartridge razor which was a massive upgrade. I came across this sub, and learned about safety razors, and I finally decided to upgrade. Razor is a merkur 47C. What blade should I start off with, and what should I progress to as I get more experienced? submitted by /u/potatocake00 to r/wicked_edge [link] [comments]

What's the greatest safety razor of all times?
Hey fellow shavers, I’ve been using a Rockwell 6C with plate 4, and while I enjoy the shave quality, I find swapping plates mid-shave kind of tedious. With 4+ days of growth, I usually need plate 6 for the first pass and then drop back to plate 4 for cleanup. Lately, I’ve been looking into the Rex Ambassador and really like the idea of being able to adjust the aggressiveness on the fly. For those who’ve used it—how does it perform? Would you recommend it as a solid all-in-one razor? Or are there other adjustable razors out there that you’d rate even higher? Appreciate any insights or suggestions—thanks! submitted by /u/moracas89 to r/wicked_edge [link] [comments]

Stop buying expensive American razor blades, get a nice locally made safety razor instead and you'll safe on blade money and trash for life!
I got mine from German company Mühle and love how it looks and feels. You'll need to learn to use it (angle, pressure, bla), but once you got it figured out it's super fast and clean. The razor blades are extremely cheap compared to "system" blades like Mach 3. There are probably a lot of small manufacterers for safety razors in any country, so check out what your neighborhood got in stock for you! submitted by /u/Rekziboy to r/BuyFromEU [link] [comments]

TIL of safety razor slots. In the 1930s-50s some home bathrooms had slots built into their walls where people would insert used razor blades. Future renovations have found walls packed with hundreds of blades.

Are safety razors overhyped?
The folks over at /r/frugal frequently recommend safety razors because of the cost savings. And, after doing the math, I definitely see why. However, I’ve been using a safety razor for a week now and I’m not too impressed with the quality of the shave. I was under the impression it’s a cheaper and better shave, but for me it’s just been cheaper. I still feel stubble on my skin immediately after shaving. I can’t see it, but I feel it when applying aftershave. This never happened with the disposable razor I was using. My safety razor came with 5 free razor blades. I was hoping it was just the blades, so I purchased Astra blades, which came highly recommended. The crazy thing is I feel like it’s even worse with those blades. I’ve only used one so far, so I’m hoping the first one I opened was just a dud. I really don’t think it’s a technique issue because I’ve been using it for a week and did some research on shaving with safety razors. Has anyone else had this experience? Edit: just to add, I know how to shave (going with the grain, short and slow strokes, angle it at 30°, etc.). I use good quality shaving cream with a good lather. Edit 2: I just wanted to say, I’m so impressed with this community. I’ve received such great feedback and everyone has a positive vibe. I wish all subreddits were like this one. submitted by /u/DPool34 to r/shaving [link] [comments]

YSK: Safety Razors Are the Cheapest and Best Way to Shave.
Why YSK: You can buy a safety razor that uses disposable razors for 15$. The disposable razors cost 10$ for 100. This means you're paying 10 cents per super close shave. All of this is available at Walmart or Amazon. I won't post any links because the brand doesn't really matter, and this isn't an advertisement. submitted by /u/adelb26 to r/YouShouldKnow [link] [comments]

LPT : Get yourself a safety razor, save $$ and save environment
I overlooked safety razors for 15 years thinking it to be a vintage tool. Recently delved into double edged safety razors for the first time and I am fully in love with it. They provide clean shave and to me it gives a lot better shave than premium cartridge type razors. Since you just need to change the metal blade, which is almost fully recyclable, you are saving the environment too. Safety razors are damn cheap. In my country Gillette Fusion Razors cost 200 times the price of safety razor blades. I just used an old-school safety razor for the first time. It was the sharpest, most tug-free shave ever, after years of using a pricey cartridge razor. Reddit, what are other technologies that have inexplicably been replaced by "improved" versions that are actually far worse than the original?
In case you're interested, this is the safety razor I used. Blades are $0.50 each, compared to $1-3 cartridges. submitted by /u/surprisecheese to r/AskReddit [link] [comments]
