Not sure really how to respond. I don't reckon either of us are in a spot where spending 2 racks for a hand bag is smart. Do I think she deserves it? Yes because she's always there for me even down to rock bottom staying in a hospital with me for over a month. We've been together for almost 6 years now, grown real comfortable. Hi all, seeking advice regarding a housing society issue in Ghatkopar, Mumbai. My neighbor has placed a shoe rack in the common corridor directly outside my apartment entrance, which obstructs my entry/exit and causes inconvenience in regular movement. This corridor is a shared/common area and not part of any individual flat. There is adequate alternative space available elsewhere in the corridor where other shoe racks are already placed and where shifting it would not inconvenience anyone. Despite this, the neighbor is refusing to move or relocate the shoe rack. I have: 1.Repeatedly requested the neighbor to shift/remove it 2.Raised the issue with the society committee 3.Informed the flat owner 4.Flagged the matter to BMC via Twitter since I'm unsure how to raise this complaint formally However, no action has been taken so far. Based on my understanding, placing personal items in common corridors can also be a fire safety violation, as it obstructs free movement and could hamper evacuation during emergencies. I’m looking for guidance on: Whether placing shoe racks in common corridors is legally permissible? If this constitutes obstruction/nuisance or a fire safety violation? What the correct escalation route is if the society and owner remain unresponsive (BMC, fire department, registrar of cooperative societies, legal notice, etc.) Any advice on applicable laws and next steps would be greatly appreciated. I went to put my shoes on this morning. Thought there was a rock in the first one and this weird thing came out. Then I put the second shoe on and another one was in that shoe. I don't think I'm the asshole, but my aunt and mom got in my head over the holidays and now I am questioning myself. Until early November I (28F) was in a long-term relationship with "Kevin" (30M). We were together for about 18 months. He was planning to move in with me at the end of November when his lease was up. I own my own place, whereas he had a roommate who was recently engaged. Seemed like good timing all round. Kevin was generally a good guy. Funny, charming, easy going. I thought I was in love. But a few weeks before he was supposed to move in, he made a weird off hand comment about my evening shower habits. Now look, I know some people will find this crazy but it's not as crazy as it seems. I have a glorious steam shower with a comfy bench. I take long ass steams before bed. Usually 15 minutes to steam, 5 to 10 minutes (with the water on and off) to shower and wash my hair, and another 5 or so for skin care. I'm not hogging the only bathroom or the hot water. And I only do it after everything else is done for the day (work, chores, sex). Anyway, the comment was that I would have to knock off things like that when I was living with him. Which, why? He said I was wasting time and needed to be more "present" when I lived with "a man." Wtf? It's 30-40 minutes. I can't have 30-40 minutes to myself? This lead to a longer argument about the various things about myself and life I would need to change before he would move in. Like I was doing him a favor letting him live with me rent free. Many things themselves weren't terrible: put my various skin care things away rather than leaving them on the shelf (fair), don't leave so many shoes in the mudroom (they're on a rack but whatever), stop the composting service (he wants to do it). But a few were non-starters: don't have my brother (17) and his friends over "unsupervised" (by him!) and don't volunteer at a local shelter that houses men. It was wild. He had never shown any indication of being controlling before so I tried to talk to him about what he was thinking. He just said that moving in meant that "I was his and needed to act like it" (paraphrasing). I said, then we weren't moving in together as I am not anyone's (less articulate than that) and asked him to leave. We had another conversation a day or so later, but neither of us budged so we mutually broke it off. I was sad, but not devastated. Mostly completely confused and questioning my ability to see any red flags. There had to be some right?? I thought I made the right choice. My friends think I made the right choice. My baby brother also thinks I made the right choice (he may be influenced by my 3d printer). But my mom and aunt think I made a huge mistake. It's been a solid two weeks of you're going to die alone! You're selfish! You have to compromise in relationships! You can't expect him to put up with your single girl schedules and habits! He was such a catch! I feel like my head is going to explode. I thought my mom would at least care that he was cutting off free brother sitting when they travel, but no, she thinks my ex was right that my brother and his friends shouldn't be in the house alone with a single woman at their age (I baby sat most of them when they were younger for Christ sakes!!). Am I really unreasonable here? I'm driving myself nuts. We are not getting back together. But was I an asshole? I'm having dinner with my dad in an hour I will ask! I promise! Yes, my adult mother said cringe. I am still processing how to feel about it. This happened on Christmas eve. We were at my family’s home. I don’t know if I will ever go back there. My wife took a break to go for a long walk and pop over to her mom’s house that is only a mile or two away. I went into the garage to also take a break and the door was cracked so I could hear them talking. I sat there for about 10 minutes while they dumped on my wife, and a little bit me as well. Reasons include: when we went outside to leave, my wife looked up at the sky and smiled and said hello to the moon. They mocked her saying it. when the sun was setting she said we should come look (Yes, of course I did, she has never asked me to get up and look at a sunrise or sunset that wasn’t 100% worth it. One of the best things she has given me is the thought to look more and appreciate my surroundings.) she holds coffee cups with both hands wrapped around them and this is apparently cringe? she has a braid of hair she wraps with different colored string and does holiday colors. My mom said it was “sooooo tacky” she wears holiday themed earrings like jingle bells or peppermint candies and that is also cringe she wears “weird” outfits and tells people she got her clothes at a thrift store if that’s where she got them. I don’t think her clothes are weird. She was wearing a plaid skirt, white top, and a silly cardigan with snowmen and stuff embroidered on. they were talking about ozempic at dinner because my mom and sister are on it and they said they could get it for my wife and they were offended she said “i’m happy with my weight” because, according to them, she needs to lose 20lbs and it made her seem pretentious. They were also like "did you see how much she ate" with gagging. she always asks for a smaller fork she one time said she thinks a celebrity my sister is a mega fan might be gay, and my sister brought it up and somehow found it extremely offensive and called my wife “psycho” and “disgusting” over it (she is a hypocrite because she used to talk about this ALL the time with other celebrities somehow her favorite is just not allowed) she doesn’t get her clothes professionally tailored which has always been an issue with them, something they brought up before we got married She read over 100 books this year and they think that’s “cringe” how she also always brings a book with her in her purse. They said “does she not have any friends” “speaking of her purse did you see what she was carrying” it was a kate spade bag… I thought kate spade was designer. I was the one who got it for her.... She had “blank nails” and I guess she has the type of hands where she should really wear fake nails to elongate them? My sister kept saying "cus she's a QUIRKY" girl with weird inflection Now I know you’re going to say, why would you sit there and listen to people bash the woman you love. Number one, if she had been there I wouldn’t have. But it was also a surprise for me because aside from the closeted celebrity thing and off the rack clothes, no one has ever expressed disliking her before. I was very confused because I also had to wonder, was I missing obvious signs before. I felt bad because what if I was one of those guys who was obliviously letting their wife get pummeled by their family emotionally. I would be so upset with myself if I let that happen. I left abruptly and went to my mother in law’s house to be with my wife. Later on I asked her if my family has ever made her feel uncomfortable and she just didn’t tell me to avoid drama. She was hesitant to answer and then she said that my sister might have anonymously harassed her about the celebrity but she never had proof it was her so she never said anything. But she doesn’t go on social media except to see pictures from her friend circle, she’s never talked about that celebrity online so she doesn’t know why anyone else would have. She said she also noticed my mom making a face at her outfits when she takes off her coat but she knows my mom is very into appearances. I did not tell my wife any of what they said at least yet. I don’t know what to do next. I am giving myself time to process. People are allowed to have their opinions I get that. But I am really sad that they would say all those things about her like this. I get now why for example my sister tried to sell her handbag and shoes to her all the time. Would it be overreacting for me to call mom and say “I heard the things you said about my wife at Christmas Eve. I am beyond disappointed to find out how catty and mean you two were about someone who has only ever wanted to be a part of this family. Please do not contact me again unless it is to apologize for the horrible things you said and for being superficial and childish to boot.” And if I do that my instinct is to tell my wife the truth but not the things they said. Found this photo in my camera roll today. I took the picture 5 years ago, so I don't remember the details well. My brothers and I were shopping near the back. For some reason, the storage room door was wide open. There the chair was, facing right outside the small hallway. The only employee in sight was a cashier who was just sulking and speaking very softly when we checked out. We were in a hurry, and he didn't seem like he would be interested in talking about it. I had two sheets of 34” x 96” maple veneer particle board that I saved from the garbage at work (I work for a remodel company that always overbuys material). My roommates and I needed a new shoe rack so I spent my day off putting one together. It’s all attached with pocket screws - probably overboard, I know, but I get the screws from work too. The hardest part was ripping down the sheets, but after talking about it with my neighbor we were able to extend the fence on my table saw with a 4’ level and set up an infeed table in front of my saw to line the boards up so all I had to do was slide them forward. Worked like a charm! Some iron on edge banding to hide the exposed edges in front (also from work!) and ended up with a nice looking and sturdy shoe rack that cost me nothing but time. submitted by /u/kalleho to r/woodworking [link] [comments]
