I scaled my Shopify store from $10k to $52k/month with a simple strategy.
I have added a TL;DR at the bottom I have been into ecommerce for almost 10 years now and few days ago someone here asked me how to scale with Google Ads. I responded quickly. In hindsight, it wasn’t the full answer. I hate half-answers. So here’s the real one. If you're selling physical products, start with Google Shopping Ads. Why? Because Shopping Ads show your product, price, and store rating to people who are already searching with buying intent. They don’t need education. They don’t need storytelling. They just need to see: the product the price the store and click Shopping Ads is the cleanest and most direct way to convert traffic when intent is high. Search ➜ see ➜ buy. If I had started with this instead of testing 20 random creative angles early on, I would've saved a lot of money and time. But here's what most store owners learn later: Traffic isn’t the problem. Your System is. Once traffic starts coming in, most people bleed money because they rely only on ads and ignore systems. That’s like pouring water into a bucket with holes. Here’s the truth almost no beginner wants to hear: Ads bring visitors. Systems turn a profit. Collect Feedback: I realized I was testing creatives blindly and wasted money testing creatives without understanding what customers actually hesitated about. So I started collecting customer feedback before and after purchase to understand: what made them click what almost stopped them what built trust That alone improved my ads more than random creative testing. A/B Testing: Another thing that quietly made a huge difference was proper split testing. Small changes like: Product page layout review positioning delivery messaging ended up increasing revenue far more than I expected. 3.) Competitor spying saved me from scaling dying products way too long. A few times I noticed competitors quietly entering discount wars before margins completely collapsed. That helped me avoid wasting more money on products that were already getting saturated. 4. ) Retargeting: Most people don’t buy on the first visit. That’s normal. But many stores run retargeting poorly by optimizing for conversions again instead of just staying familiar long enough. Awareness/impression-based retargeting is usually much cheaper and works surprisingly well once the first click already handled buying intent. 5.) Emails: In the last 12 months, email alone generated $150.8k out of $554.6k in revenue. Not by doing anything fancy. BigCommerce vs Shopify: Which One Should I Choose in 2026 for a New Online Store?
Hey everyone, I’m planning to start my first online store in 2026 and I’ve been researching different ecommerce platforms, but I’m honestly confused between BigCommerce and Shopify. Shopify seems more beginner friendly and everyone talks about its app ecosystem, themes, and ease of setup, while BigCommerce looks stronger when it comes to built-in features and avoiding extra app costs. I also read that Shopify can become expensive once you start adding apps and transaction fees, whereas BigCommerce seems better for SEO and scaling without relying too much on third-party tools. My store will mainly sell physical products, and since I’m not a developer, ease of use matters a lot to me, but I also don’t want to choose something that I’ll regret after a year when the business grows. Best email marketing app for a pet store?
We’ve been using Klaviyo for a while for our Shopify pet products store and I’m kind of at the point where I can’t tell if the pricing is just something everyone eventually accepts or if people quietly move elsewhere and never talk about it lol. We’re sitting at around 55k contacts now with a small team, and don’t get me wrong, Klaviyo works. Email and SMS are important for us, flows perform well, campaigns do well, segmentation is solid, all of that. I’m not here to say it’s bad software. But I opened our billing the other day and had one of those moments where you start questioning whether you actually need all this stuff anymore. A lot of the app honestly feels like it was built for brands way bigger than us. Super advanced, tons of options, tons of data, but realistically, we use maybe a fraction of it. Half the time I feel like we’re paying enterprise level pricing just to run a Shopify store that mainly needs reliable flows, campaigns and decent segmentation. And the weird part is I can’t even tell if I’m being cheap or reasonable anymore because everyone in ecommerce talks about Klaviyo like it’s just the default cost of doing business once you grow. Curious what other Shopify stores around this size are doing. Did you just accept the pricing and move on or did you eventually switch to something that made more sense for your actual business? From 0 installs to $45 MRR as a solo Shopify app developer
A month ago I was honestly starting to doubt whether my Shopify app had any chance. I used Shopify’s $100 ad credit and got basically nothing from it. No meaningful installs, no paid conversions. Around the same time, I kept seeing people criticize Shopify apps in general, and mostly saying many apps fail because merchants don’t immediately understand the value or how the app actually helps their store. Then something small happened. I got my first $5 paid customer. Before they upgraded, I jumped on AnyDesk with them and personally showed them how the app worked, what problems it solved, and how they could actually benefit from it. They used it for free for almost a month before finally subscribing to the $5 plan. That one customer completely changed my mindset. Not long after that, installs suddenly started coming in from different countries. Still not huge numbers, but real merchants actively trying the app and using it. Has anyone else tested Claude Code on their Shopify store?
Feels like it changes the role of agencies + app builders I’ve been experimenting a bit with Claude Code on our Shopify store over the past couple of weeks, and it’s honestly made me rethink how the whole stack works. For context - most of our dev work earlier went through an agency. Nothing wrong with that, but even small changes would take time, tickets and alot of back and forth. With Claude Code, a lot of that day to day dev layer just… disappears. You can describe what you want and get something usable pretty fast. Where I still see real value is in: overall UX decisions mobile experience retention flows how everything ties together post-purchase This is where I think Shopify mobile app builders (like Appbrew, Tapcart, Mobiloud etc.) still have a strong place. Even if you can spin up features with AI, building a high-performing mobile app with push, lifecycle journeys, and retention baked in isn’t something you just prompt your way into. If anything, tools like Claude Code make it easier to enhance your app, not replace one with the other. I added reviews with Judge.me, then a loyalty program, and suddenly I’m paying for multiple apps on top of Shopify… while I have barely launched and made sales. And the worst part? The features you actually need (like multilingual emails for EU stores) are locked behind paid plans. I am based in the EU. For example: My store is in Dutch, German and English but review request emails go out in English unless I upgrade and I have to pay for that. Plus I am alreadyon 14 days free trial for Love loyalty app for rewards and points after which I start paying. I feel this is so overwhelming. I have a Shopify wholesale store, looking for app recommendations
I recently started setting up wholesale on my Shopify store and it’s turning out to be more complicated than I expected. Things like setting different pricing for wholesale customers, minimum order quantities, and eventually offering net terms aren’t as straightforward as I thought. I’ve been exploring a few apps like BSS Commerce, Wholesale Gorilla, and also came across BMT Wholesale recently. From what I understand, most of these handle things like tiered pricing and customer-specific pricing, but I’m not sure how reliable or easy they are to actually run day to day. My shopify store just got wrecked overnight with 25k fraudulent charges
Woke up this morning to my inbox completely buried under thousands of spam emails. promotions for random craft fairs in europe, luxury brands i never signed up for, newsletters piling up so fast i could barely scroll. thought it was just another bot attack and started deleting in bulk but something felt off so i paused and actually searched for shopify. buried like 400 emails deep were three critical ones i almost missed. one said a recovery code was used to log in. never requested it. another welcomed me to shopify credit which i definitely did not apply for. and the third had financial disclosures for a new line of credit. heart just stopped. logged in immediately and there it was. someone had opened a 30k credit line in my stores name and already racked up 25k in fraudulent charges for fake bulk orders to drop addresses. all within hours. i have 2fa on everything. authenticator app not sms. changed all passwords locked everything down reported to shopify support right away. they say investigation could take 90 days and charges might get reversed but the account is frozen now for suspicious activity which is insane because the hack already happened. other merchants are messaging me saying same thing happened to them. spam flood to hide the real notifications. this store was finally hitting 8k a month after a year of grinding products testing ads building trust. now everything paused customers emailing why site down potential refunds piling up. cannot even process real orders. feel like throwing up. how does this even happen with 2fa. is there any way to speed up shopify disputes or recover faster. anyone been through this nightmare and clawed back. please tell me this is recoverable before i shut it all down. submitted by /u/Fun-Training9232 to r/shopify [link] [comments]

Major warning regarding Affirm, the Shop app and Shopify
I will stick to the facts here and warn everyone about Affirm, the Shop app , and Shopify so you can avoid what happened to me. I was looking at automotive parts online in Nov 2025 and found a merchant I was unfamiliar with, stocking some brands I was interested in and offering Affirm as a payment option. I had never heard of or shopped with this store before. It’s a boutique auto parts store stocking some exotic parts. I emailed them about a specific part, and was answered by the owner that the part i was interested in wouldn’t fit my vehicle. He suggested a different part that was listed for about double the price on the site. The item had a part number in the description. He said he could offer me a major discount before 2025 was over, covering tax and import. As the part was suggested as a fit for my vehicle, the price was significantly reduced, I was getting customer service from the owner, the site looked legit and polished, and I checked out their socials, and I shopped around, it seemed like a fantastic price, and on top of everything they offered Affirm, I decided to order it. After I placing my order, the owner called me and confirmed a few things including the part number that was in the item description. So far, so good. As I mentioned the part is exotic and would need to be imported from overseas. From shopping around online, there were 2 versions of the part, lets say part numbers XXXA and XXXB. I ordered “XXXA”, the significantly more expensive version of the part made of higher quality materials and offering higher performance. Only “XXXA“ was listed on this site. I even took a screenshot of my order because I wasn’t fully convinced they would order the correct part that was listed on the website and in the item description “XXXA”. Fast forward a couple weeks and my item gets delivered. Sure enough, it’s “XXXB”, the lower quality, cheaper version made from different material and offering less performance, a part I did not agree to order. I called the owner to explain that they delivered the wrong part and asked what kind of resolution they were going to come up with. The owner got defensive and said he explained to me on the phone that it was this kit with cheaper materials. While he did do this, I didn’t fully grasp his explanation and was moreso going off the part number as that is how you know you’re getting exactly what you want. So he calls me back a few minutes later and offers to refund it for store credit with a 20% restocking fee. I disagreed and said the part number shipped doesnt match the item description so should be grounds for a full refund. It basically ended in a frustrated stand off and that was the last I ever heard from the owner. That night I checked my order history and confirmed the part number mismatch (I bought XXXA and they shipped XXXB) and even took another screenshot for good measure. Later into the night, I checked again and the owner updated the item description, removing reference to the part number I ordered. Here is the big warning: I never got a static item description in my order history, just a link leading to the live description which the owner sneakily removed the part number from. Without my screenshots, there would be no proof the part number I used to reference ordering this very expensive part ever existed in the item description. This I blame on Shopify and the Shop app for letting a merchant edit the description and suddenly it’s erased like revisionist history. Thinking I had a slam dunk case I submitted a dispute with Affirm. I submitted my screenshots and pics showing the mismatch of part numbers from the item description vs what was delivered. While the dispute ticket was open, the merchant did yet another sneaky maneuver - he created a new item on his webstore for part XXXA, as if to show I had the option to order it but chose the wrong one. I am certain this new item did not exist when I placed my order, although of course can’t prove anything. Well I finally got the decision in my dispute and was decided against by Affirm, so now on the hook for the item cost plus interest on a very expensive, exotic part I did not order and which there is very limited market for. I also opened a ticket with Shopify to investigate the merchant tampering with the item description after the fact.. nothing came from it as far as I can tell. So let this be your warning, use a credit card as it offers much more consumer protection than Affirm. Affirm has no North American customer service and their disputes heavily favour the merchant. I had a good order history on Affirm previously of a couple big ticket items - never returned anything and never missed a payment. I will NEVER use Affirm again. Also major red flag to Shopify for allowing a merchant to edit an item description which simultaneously edits a customer‘s order history. Thank god I took screenshots or I‘d think that maybe I’m the crazy one. Use a credit card, debit card, even PayPal, NEVER use Affirm and don’t make any big ticket purchases through any merchant using Shopify! For the record, I do not believe the merchant originally tried to scam me, rather they made an honest mistake with the part numbers. What they did after was inexcusable and total scam artist scum behaviour, of course. i dont even know where to start… i have poured months of work, time, and money into my store, and now it’s all feeling like it’s slipping through my fingers. apparently, disputifier the app i trusted to handle chargebacks automatically had a massive api leak. a hacker ran a script and triggered unauthorized refunds, literally taking over $12,000 from my store in seconds. My Shopify Store will transact over £2,000,000 (~$2.7M) this year. I am still using Advanced as I see no benefit for me to go to Plus?
Hi all, I'm prepared to be downvoted for this probably poor take that I am probably missing the point on. I've had my Shopify store grow quite fast & it's on course to break the £2,000,000 in 1 year this year (conservative estimate). I've seen quite a few people on here & on social media mentioning that any revenue past 1Million you should be on Plus. Issue is, I can't see a real benefit? I don't need to have multiple Staff Accounts, I have no in person store, the card pricing isn't good enough to encourage me to change. B2B is probably the only thing I would probably consider being something I could make use of? Even then I cope with what I have. I manage the site myself, use no apps (just the facilities provided as standard with Shopify). I just think that as 1 Million in revenue isn't very much, I don't find it very value advantageous for most companies at that point & don't see why it would be recommended past this point. Looking for the best email marketing app for Shopify as we scale
Hey everyone. I'm currently trying to rethink my email setup for my Shopify store and feeling a bit stuck. When I first launched, almost anything worked. Now that the store's a bit bigger, email is starting to matter more: abandoned carts, post-purchase flows, basic segmentation, that kind of thing. And I'm realizing not every tool scales the same way. I've looked at a few of the usual names, but pricing jumps, feature gating, and setup complexity are making me hesitate. Amazon’s “shop stores directly” scraping shopify sites and placing orders
My site, along with countless others are being scraped for Amazon’s app. Products I don’t even have anymore (like fully deleted from the back end) are being sold under this “shop stores directly” section of the app. They use AI images of items that aren’t mine, and authorizing orders to my site for items that are out of stock. I did not opt in to this nor is there an easy way to opt out. How did this happen and what is Shopify doing to rectify this?! How much are you spending on Shopify apps per month?
I was doing some bookkeeping this week and realized my Shopify app stack is costing me way more than I thought. Between subscriptions for reviews, upsells, shipping, analytics, and email, I’m easily over $400/month. It’s weird because each app only seems like $20–$40, but it adds up fast.
