What are we dressing smaller newborns in for sleep
Our newborn boy is 10 days old today. He’ll sleep for an hour or so in the pram bassinet during the day but at night is really only sleeping on us. I love the closeness but need to find a more sustainable option for when my Husband goes back to work next week as we won’t be able to do shifts in the same way we’re doing now. He will go to sleep in his Moses basket but fussed and wakes after 30 mins or so. I think he’s getting cold but unsure what else to dress him in. He was 6lb 2 and 3rd centile at birth and so too small for sleep sacks at the mo. Currently have him in a vest, onesie with a celular blanket (double layered) on top. Room is 20 degrees So my question is, for those who had smaller newborns, what did you put them down in at night? Edit: Thanks so much for your suggestions. We tried a Love to Dream swaddle for smaller babies but he didn’t like it. Ended up using a woollen cellular blanket someone had kindly knitted for us instead of cotton, warming the basket with a hot water bottle (removed before putting him in) and upping the temp in our room to 21.5 degrees. He’s slept so much better since and no longer leaking wee out of his nappies. We’ve stayed up in shifts to keep checking him to make sure he wasn’t overheating. Sharing as this is what has helped for us. I know it’s not in line with the guidance but him sleeping on us was becoming a bigger risk so we weighed our options. submitted by /u/NoFruit3515 to r/BeyondTheBumpUK [link] [comments]

Best breathable blankets for co-sleeping with a newborn?
Hi everyone, I’m due in a few months (first baby!) and planning to co-sleep while following safe sleep guidelines. I’d really appreciate advice on blankets. I’ve been browsing things like organic cotton muslin swaddles, lightweight bamboo blankets, and other baby friendly blankets on Amazon, eBay, and even Alibaba, basically looking for something soft, thin, and not too heat trapping. I keep seeing muslin come up since it’s breathable and helps prevent overheating, especially for newborns. Do you use a blanket for your baby at all, or just layers or sleep sacks? If you do, what material and thickness actually worked for you? Would love to hear real experiences before I buy anything, there are so many options. submitted by /u/Plenty_Friendship453 to r/Bedding [link] [comments]

When to Use a Sleep Sack for Your Baby and When to Stop
Welcoming a new baby brings so many sweet moments—from first smiles to tiny coos. But along with the joy of parenthood comes the challenge of helping your baby sleep well. This is where a sleep sack shines as a practical solution that offers warmth and security. But how do you know when to start using it, and when to let it go? Let's dive into the details! Starting Off: The Ideal Age for Introducing a Sleep Sack The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends babies sleep on their backs in a safe sleep space for their first year. Sleep sacks can be used from birth, but most parents start around 2–4 months. Here’s why this timing works: Safety First In the early months, newborns have little control over their movements. A sleep sack can keep them snug without the dangers posed by loose bedding. Temperature Regulation Infants struggle to regulate their body temperature effectively. A sleep sack keeps baby warm without overheating—an important factor in reducing the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Promoting Healthy Sleep Patterns Starting to use a sleep sack can encourage a consistent sleep routine. Its snug nature mimics the feeling of being swaddled, making your baby feel secure and ready for rest. This is especially important as they transition from the womb into the world. The Transition Period: When to Change Up the Sleep Sack As your baby grows and develops, their sleep needs change. Knowing when to transition away from the sleep sack can be just as important as knowing when to start using one. https://preview.redd.it/32cu29ownikg1.jpg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=98da1771c9633635829855f106280ba7b0a58524 Size Matters Most sleep sacks are available in multiple sizes, usually based on the baby’s weight and height. Once your baby outgrows their sleep sack, generally around the age of 18 months, it's time to look for a larger size. This is also when you should check if they show signs of being ready for a different sleeping arrangement. Developmental Signals As children approach age one, they start to gain gross motor skills, such as rolling over, sitting up, and standing. These are indicators that it's time to reconsider their sleeping setup. As soon as your child starts standing in the crib, it’s time to choose a sleep sack without leg holes—or transition to a blanket. When to Say Goodbye to the Sleep Sack Transitioning away from a sleep sack can seem daunting, but there are valuable indicators to help you know when it’s time to make that move. Age and Growth Milestones Most children no longer need a sleep sack between 18 to 24 months. At this point, babies stay warm more easily and can safely use a light blanket if needed. Independence in Sleep Routine Another major sign is your child’s burgeoning independence. If they can climb out of their crib, that’s a strong indicator that it's time to switch to a different sleep option. Moving to a bigger bed can also promote independence and self-soothing. Alternatives to Sleep Sacks If your baby is ready to transition away from the sleep sack, you may wonder what alternatives you have. Here are a few options to consider: Lightweight Blankets: Best for toddlers over 18 months and can move around easily. Bumpers: These can help in the transition phase if your little one still needs some form of security. Sleep Pants: Allow your child the freedom to move while still providing warmth. https://preview.redd.it/te7idwoznikg1.jpg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c938e8918417c737bf85e44f7e2f39e8af362b5 Featured Product: Saranoni Heirloom Cotton Knit Receiving Blankets Creating a Safe Sleep Environment Regardless of your choice in sleepwear, a safe sleep environment is crucial. This includes: Ensuring a firm mattress with no soft bedding or toys. Keeping the crib or bed free of hazards. Using a swaddle or sleep sack until they are ready to transition. The Sleep Sack and Beyond: The Benefits of Using One Using a sleep sack can have lots of benefits that go beyond keeping your little one warm at night. They can help in various ways: 1. Encourages Healthy Sleep Habits The familiar weight and feel of a sleep sack can help signal to your child that it’s time for sleep. 2. Mobility and Comfort Your baby can still kick their legs and change positions comfortably within a sleep sack. 3. Versatility in Different Seasons Many sleep sacks come in various material options; you can choose lighter fabrics for warmer months and heavier ones for winter. Sweet Dream! Seeing your child transition naturally through their sleep phases is a rewarding experience. But when to start or stop using a sleep sack should always include careful consideration of your child's developmental stage. Keeping a close eye on their growth and behavior will help you can make informed choices. Remember, every child is unique, and what works for one might not work for another. Cherish this journey, and relish those quiet moments of peace as your child learns the gift of sleep. With the right tools and an understanding of your little one’s needs, you are set for a sweet dream for the whole family! Question about newborn sizing for sleep sacks
My baby is a month old and I'm looking at the ergopouch's swaddle size guide. They recommend buying a size based on baby's current weight, and they specifically say not to upsize. Sleep sacks vs. blankets for a newborn?
The SIDS advice says 'no loose bedding' for the first 12 months, which means no blankets. So, what is the safest alternative to keep a baby warm at night? I keep seeing TOG-rated sleep sacks mentioned as a replacement for blankets. Is this the official consensus? And if the room gets cold overnight, do I add another blanket or layer up the clothes under the sleep sack? Looking for recommendations on newborn sleep sacks/swaddles
Hello all, due in 4 weeks in January in New England… we live in an old house and for some reason, try as we might, our bedroom stays pretty cold. We can turn the heat up but it still generally stays between 62 and 65. Sometimes the heat will randomly blast on and heat the room more to like 66 or 67, but we can’t really figure out when or why. Naturally, this is giving me anxiety about what to dress the baby in to sleep! I am looking for recommendations on sleep sacks and swaddles for newborns that are safe and are 2 or 2.5 TOG. I have read conflicting reviews on the safety of the halo bamboo sleep swaddle 2.0 TOG, but that is what I had originally thought to get. Looking for any recs and thinking something with arms in since it’s so cold. Thank you submitted by /u/Jolly-Asparagus-5815 to r/NewParents [link] [comments]

Woolino sleep sack for newborn?
I’m having a surprisingly hard time finding a sleep sack for my 6 week old that doesn’t have a big neck hole and arm holes. We were using the Halo newborn size, but the 0-6 month size has a v neck cut that his head can fit through. I’m way too nervous of a new parent to let him sleep in that overnight. Looking into woolino, but many of the product reviews make it look like it’s big around the neck and arm holes for them as well. If we did woolino, I’m interested in the classic sizing to fit better in the bassinet. I really want something that fits closer to the neck and doesn’t bunch up above his shoulders. Any suggestions or experiences? submitted by /u/bigoleapples to r/NewParents [link] [comments]

Sleep sacks for Texas??
Hi everyone. I am curious to see how other parents dress their newborns to sleep. Do you use sleep sacks and if so what TOG do you use? What should i put in my baby registry for sleepy time? Baby is due in April! submitted by /u/Cultural-Management7 to r/AustinParents [link] [comments]

Looking for form fitting sleep sack for 4 month old
I co sleep with my baby. He senses his crib within a few minutes if I transfer him to his crib. He's fell asleep for a 6 hr stretch once but every day he wakes up every hour on the hour to eat, sometimes if I'm lucky every couple of hours. He might take a 30 min nap during the day. As a newborn, he was always and always hungry. I secretly was going crazy. Too much latching. Today He's 4 months old. 25" long, 17 lbs. generally a very happy baby. He can roll over but sleeps generally on his back and sleeps the best when swaddled. We have a fan running cold air. I'm looking to find something that conforms to the body. Love to dream looks like it's too spacious. Swaddelini? The olli? Or go for a weighted sleep sack? I just want him to get good sleep. I want good sleep. I'm going crazy man 😭 Anyone been in my shoes? submitted by /u/Clean_Cabinet to r/beyondthebump [link] [comments]

How to avoid newborn constantly being in a sleeping sack?
Potentially silly question. I have a 2 week old who we’ve just started putting in a sleep sack to sleep. He definitely sleeps better in it compared to without it. Right now he sleeps for about 1.5-3 hours at a time, wakes for feeding and changing, and then sometimes stays awake for another 30-60 mins or so to go on his play mat or something. His total wake windows are about 30-90 minutes. Currently I’ve been keeping him in his sleep sack to feed him and just unzipping it to change him. Then if he falls asleep again I put him straight back in his crib. The net result is that he’s in his sleep sack almost all of the time. I would take him out of it if I put him on his play mat, when I fully change his clothes, or if he was having a contact nap so he didn’t overheat, but otherwise I don’t. Is there anything wrong with this? Should I be taking him out of the sleep sack for feeds and changes so he only wears it when he’s in his crib? submitted by /u/FerromagneticBadger to r/BeyondTheBumpUK [link] [comments]

Help planning for cheap swaddles before Woolino/Ecolino sleep sacks fit
Hello, I am trying to plan for what sleep sacks/swaddles I need to purchase - due in January. I already have: 1 Ecolino Adjustable Sleep Sack and 1 Woolino Ultimate Sleep Sack. These are both graded for 2-24 months. We have all 4 seasons with hot summers and do keep our house chilly in the winter so I did think having both types was worth it. I have 1 more of each of those on my registry just to have spares/if I have to take one to daycare. Before those fit, I am debating between swaddle blankets and swaddle sacks. I have seen the HALO velcro swaddles suggested a ton but I don't want the velcro and want something super cost effective since the sleep sacks have been expensive. I would be more interested in the Swaddle UP sleep sacks but I am nervous about buying the wrong sizing. If I went this route, I would try to find secondhand to save money. Has anyone used swaddle blankets before transitioning to these sleep sacks? Did it work ok? I have been gifted 4 secondhand muslin swaddle blankets - would these be thick enough with a fleece sleeper? How to dress a December newborn warmly enough for sleep in an Alberta winter? Did I screw up with the sleep sacks I bought? [ab]
My baby is due in mid-December in Alberta, and a few months ago Kyte swaddle sleep sacks were on sale at West Coast Kids. My friend who had her baby boy in March swore by them, loving the velcro swaddle part that can come off and the sack can still be used when the baby is no longer swaddled, and convinced me to pick up two. However, I have now done more research on TOG ratings and realize that in a room that is 18-20 (which my house is overnight), a 2.5 TOG sleep sack + sleeper + short-sleeved onesie is recommended; the Kyte ones are only 1.0 TOG and I can't even find 2.5 TOG ones by that brand and I really wanted ones that have the ability to swaddle. What does everyone use for newborns born in the heart of winter? Are there any good swaddle sleep sacks that are 2.5 TOG or do you swaddle on top of a sleep sack, I'm a FTM so not sure how any of this really works. Thanks in advance :) submitted by /u/sockedfeet to r/BabyBumpsCanada [link] [comments]

Nurse sacked for posting offensive images of hospitalized newborns | "In some images, the nurse held newborns in her arms or on her lap. The photos had captions such as, “My anger issues are rising" and “What time is it? Please just sleep already,” posted with a close-up photo of a baby’s face."

You just don't need it.
Just a little heads up because social media isn't the best place for parents especially first timers. You don't need all the stuff the influencers are trying to push onto you. It's their job to sell stuff! As a midwife I recommend the following as necessary for the newborn stages. Bed for baby Clothes ranging from Premeture to 0-3 months. You don't know the exact weight or height till they're here so be ready for that. Nappies/Diapers, creams, wipes, cotton balls or cotton swabs for cleaning their little creases. CAR SEAT (The hospital will not let you leave with your baby without one, even if you're walking home or live next door) Stroller/Pram/Pushchair. A way to feed them i.e If breast then you're all set, a pump if needed or bottles. I'd also recommend getting a sterilizer to clean them it's easy, cleans them ready for feeding time and help not get them murky or sticky with other residue. Swaddle or Baby Sleeping sacks NOT BIG FLUFFY BLANKETS. Everything else is really not necessary but if you want them by all means get them. Some things like a bouncer or playmat may come within time but not right now. There's a tonne of great recommendations in the comments too so have a nosey through 😊 Edited for spacing error. submitted by /u/PomeranianPineapple to r/pregnant [link] [comments]

Is it ok for newborn to sleep on her side?
My newborn is two weeks old and keeps rolling on her side, even when we put her in her sleep sack.. we have tried just letting her sleep in nothing but her sleeper, we have tried a regular swaddle AND sleep sacks, but she keeps rolling onto her side anyways.. Google says that they can’t sleep on their side because it increases the risk of SIDS, how do I keep her from rolling? I made sure the mattress was flat and it is, idk what to do to keep her from rolling. submitted by /u/stonedbutterbread to r/NewParents [link] [comments]

How do you dress a newborn/infant for sleep [on]
Working on my registry and had added some sleep sacks of different tog ratings. My cousin was all "no no no, just use fleece footies" and now I don't know which one! Sleep sack or fleece footie?! submitted by /u/SuchStrawberry3853 to r/BabyBumpsCanada [link] [comments]

Sleep sacks/Swaddle sacks for newborn [on]
Hello, FTM due in November and I was wondering which sleep sacks or swaddle sacks you guys used for your newborns. It tends to be a bit chilly in late Fall so looking for a swaddle sack or sleep sack that has a higher tog (2.5 tog). Thank you. Update: Thank you for all the suggestions everyone! I'll look into a few options for the newborn phase and based on its overwhelming popularity, look into the Woolino sleep sack afterwards. Will also go for a lower TOG around 1.0 to 1.5. submitted by /u/cherryblossomblush to r/BabyBumpsCanada [link] [comments]

What is safest for newborn: sleep sack, swaddle, or onesie?
Looking for the safest option. I’m terrified of the swaddle coming undone at night. But wondering what benefits swaddles have over other options as I know many people use swaddles happily. submitted by /u/Sea_Win_5056 to r/ScienceBasedParenting [link] [comments]
