I saw beauty / makeup influencer Robert Welsh talking about this one on TikTok last night. The Then I Met You Under Eye Cream. It does sound intriguing for those of us with hollow under eyes, though, the price point is making said eyes water! I guess they can get away with that price given that, as far as I can tell (correct me if I'm wrong), it's a unique formulation. I don't think anyone else has an eye cream on the market with 30% snail mucin, 5% volufiline and 1% caffeine. A lot of the reviews on the Sephora app are incentivized, which, I get it... that's probably gonna be the case in the early months of a product's release, but, I know y'all will be unbiased and steer me right. Anyone tried this one? Was it worth the splurge? Did it work well with you other skincare and makeup? No pilling? No irritation? I must admit, I'm new to snail mucin, too, but I know it's a well liked ingredient in K-beauty. I've tried pure volufiline before but it was too viscous for me to apply in a targeted way, so didn't stick with it. Was picking up some groceries at my local Kroger this evening (I live on the east coast in the US) and saw that they’ve randomly added a Korean skincare section. Ok cool! Unexpected but I obviously love that Kbeauty is becoming more easily accessible at places like Ulta and Target etc - my main question is how the hell are they selling the Korean formula of the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen? The filters in the OG formula are, to my knowledge, not FDA approved, which is why we get stuck with the god awful US reformulations sold at Sephora and the like, but I triple checked the packaging and ingredients, this is not the US formulation, no “broad spectrum” to be found and the INCI list is identical to the OG Korean formula. I added in the snail mucin and after 5 days my face was looking glossyyyy but then I broke out really badly. It was the only thing I added in. I stopped using it, waited till my breakouts cleared, tried adding it back in, and it was 100% the culprit :(. I am trying to go slowly into adding K Beauty into my routine. pic 1: taken AFTER my accutane course. my acne here is still much better in this then it used to be. Apologies for the low quality, I hated pictures because I was super insecure hence why I don’t have ones from before accutane either. pic 2: makeup only on my eyes and lips, nothing on my skin except sunscreen and moisturizer. My eyebrows are microbladed. FULL DISCLOSURE #1: I am not a dermatologist nor a licensed esthetician. I am a registered nurse with a basic understanding of microbiology and human anatomy who has spent way too many hours on skincare YouTube. What I’ve detailed below is what worked for me, and by no means what works for everyone else. FULL DISCLOSURE #2: I’ve had pico laser done once in office to help with post inflammatory hyperpigmentation as well as laser removal of my flat facial moles. Things I’ve tried that didn’t work (before y’all come for me please remember that I started this journey when I was like 10 😂) - benzoyl peroxide (I am allergic 😭) - spironolactone - clay masks - scrubs/ physical exfoliation (St. Ives 😱) - peel off masks - salicylic acid acne clearing pads - proactiv (the entire set) - pore strips - Mario badescu drying lotion - witch hazel - Clinique clarifying lotion - 10 step Korean skin care routine (I didn’t curate it, I just bought blindly based off of what had good reviews 🤦‍♀️) - snail mucin - essence and/ or toner - Chinese medicine (I don’t even know what I was taking tbh.) - not moisturizing “because I was too oily” - any type of DIY mask (lemon juice, egg, honey, olive oil, yogurt, rice water, u name it) - topical clindamycin Things that worked but don’t currently use: - Accutane (I did a 6 month course; acne came back eventually but SO much improvement in severity) - CeraVe SA cleanser - rx Sodium Sulfacetamide cleanser (cleansing with sulfur is one of the things I truly believe saved my skin. I still break out when I go without my sulfur for too long. I think it’s bullshit when people say your face wash doesn’t matter - sulfur absolutely matters for me) - oral doxycycline (worked only while I was actively using, but was worried about antimicrobial resistance) - ZitSticka Skin Discipline multivitamin capsules (genuinely helped my skin but was too expensive and was able to wean off of them over the course of trial and error x 1 year) Current Regimen AM: - cleanse CeraVe hydrating cream to foam cleanser - serum: glossier super pure (niacinamide and zinc - been repurchasing this for over 6 years now) - moisturizer: glossier after baume (my HG moisturizer: super thick and luxurious but doesn’t break me out) - sunscreen + vit c: melano CC sunscreen spf 50++++ PM - first cleanse: glossier milky jelly cleansing balm (doesn’t really matter what first step cleanser I use tbh. I’ve used banila co, the inkey list, CeraVe makeup balm, etc. as long as it removes makeup and sunscreen well I’m good) - second cleanse: Dermaharmony 5% Sulfur and 2% Salicylic Acid Liquid Castile Soap (I switched to this from using CeraVe SA + rx Sulfur cleanser because I was tired to carrying around 2 bottles as well as having to get an rx for my sulfur wash. I absolutely still need Salicylic acid AND sulfur in my regimen. - moisturizer: glossier after baume - agency skincare formula for hyperpigmentation: tretinoin 0.035% + tranexamic acid 5% + dexpanthenol 1% + niacinamide 4% - when I’m super dry, esp in the winter: Elizabeth Arden advanced ceramide capsule (I usually just use like 1/3 of a capsule and leave the rest in the clean spot for later. Glossier future dew works okay too, just doesn’t spread as nicely) + I skip my retinol for a night General rules (these are also critically important) 1. Don’t touch your face unless you’ve just washed your hands. 2. Dedicate a towel for your face and treat it like it’s sterile. Don’t use it for anything else but your face. Don’t hang it near the toilet (invisible fecal particles erupt from your toilet when u flush). 3. Change your face towel and your pillowcases at LEAST every 4ish days. I like to do every 2. I have a million old T-shirts that can be used as pillowcases. When a side gets “old”, flip it to the other side and you’re gucci. 4. Pat when you’re drying with a towel. Be gentle. Don’t rub your face ever. I also prefer to lather my face wash with a foaming net until I have a thick, dense cloud. You don’t want to be tugging or manually scrubbing at your skin. Let the micro bubbles do the work. 5. Please wash that damn makeup sponge/ brush with soap and water after every use 😩 and deep clean with boiling water if it’s safe to do so every couple of uses. I just throw my wet beauty blender in the microwave with some water in a bowl for 3 minutes every 6-7 uses (the manufacturer does not recommend this as it may cause the blender to deform or lose integrity. I’ve never had an issue. Move forward at your own discretion) Treat your makeup like it’s sterile too - only a clean brush/ clean finger is allowed to touch it. Sorry it’s so long! I ordered my first cosrx advanced snail mucin cream from Amazon at around Rs 1200. The cream did not feel like snail mucin, was not as slimy as YouTube videos were showing it to be. Few things were also not right about the packaging that I mention below. What I received was a counterfeit and I was provided a refund by Amazon. Then I ordered the cream from nykaa at Rs 1485. Below are the differences. The right one(original) is from nykaa and the left one is from amazon(seller: Venus.Enterprise) Top pic: There is no difference in packaging except for the original one having Limese sticker. Middle pic: In the original one COSRX is in bold. Last pic: In the original one words "Directions" and "Caution" are in bold. Shade of the cream and consistency was off when compared with the original one. This is for the benefit of the masses. So I have very oily, dehydrated, acne prone skin , live in a super humid place and I recently got the above products and thought I'd give my first impressions of them. I just started using them recently so take my words with a pinch of salt. 😅 1) COSRX Advanced Snail 92 all in one cream: I got this from Maccaron durin their recent sale last week for rs 1152/- I had read up on a lot of the hype about how it's great for oily skin even in humid weather and it's got humectant as well as moisturizing and slightly occlusive properties ( this is what I read, I don't know this for sure) and was super excited to try it Let me say that I loved the texture when I tried a swatch test on my hand. It felt silky and light, almost airy unlike most other creams. It's also very easily washable. HOWEVER, I was massively disappointed when i started using it on my face. Even though I used the tiniest amount ( literally a pinch) for my face and neck it still made my skin look super oily on application and continued to look oily even after rubbing it in a lot and patting my skin repeatedly. This was on dry skin so then I tried using it on damp/wet skin to help it absorb better. It initially felt very nice after I used this way of damp application and then my skin got super oily after 45 minutes to an hour :( what's worse is that this cream flared up my fungal acne which I hadn't had for over 6 months now 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I was horrified to wake up on the second day of having started this cream to see the entire left side of my neck and both the eye areas above my cheeks being covered in them. It's been four days now since I continued using the cream and the problem not only persists but my pores look wider now and my skin texture looks horrible :/ This product may be good for those living in dry climate with dry skin. the packaging is also very flimsy in my opinion. This cream comes in a tub instead of a tube or pump and has this plastic lid on the inside that you have to lift up very very carefully when you want to get some cream or else it smears all over the lid on the outside as well. And if you're someone who doesn't have much time and is in a hurry when getting ready and applying skincare you won't be able to screw the lid back on properly. You have to slowly and patiently do it or else it doesn't sit right. I'm now considering whether I should repurpose this cream and use it for my body like on my arms and legs instead. Will NOT be repurchasing this and will try the Snail 96 mucin essence next time. 2)Minimalist SPF 50 Sunscreen with Niacinamide+ Vitamin B5+ Vitamin f Broad Spectrum PA++++ : I got this as my first purchase from the Purplle App. Heavily regretting it now -_- none of the Minimalist products did anything for my skin but atleast they didn't do anything bad either. Until this Sunscreen... Judging by the ingredients list this is a chemical sunscreen. The texture felt a little light on my hand when I did a swatch test but it has a very tacky touch to it when I began to rub it in. Then I applied it on my face and was mortified and annoyed. It stung my skin badly as if someone mixed menthol ointment into this sunscreen and on top of that it felt so goddamn heavy and greasy and tar - like when trying to spread it and apply it. It reminded me of semi dried fevicol gum on the skin. It blocked my pores too and gave that "skin suffocating" sensation. My skin also broke out into a very intense sweat barely seconds after the application so now I looked like some oily walrus. Plus this sunscreen stung my eyes badly and gave me a nasty fevicol taste in my mouth for some reason even though I applied it carefully 😐 also this sunscreen now has a tube packaging instead of the pump type it used to have ( I never got to try the pump type). I don't know if that means the formulation might have also changed or not. But I had an issue with the tube type of packaging too. It lets out too much sunscreen even with the lid closed once the aluminium seal at the top is removed and I end up spilling out the sunscreen when trying to get some even if I'm very careful. Will not repurchase this. I was thinking about trying the other sunscreen that's got an spf 60 and that Silmyarin ingredient but now I'm too scared to try that 😅 3) Biotique Honey Gel Foaming Face wash: I got this from Purplle as well. I'm not a fan of Biotique products at all. I just got this so that my order qualified for free delivery 😂 it's quite harsh and detergent-y so I decided to use this as the first cleanse, especially to remove any products like sunscreen from my face ( like that fevicol sunscreen from the Minimalist :p ) before moving on to my trusted Cosrx Salicylic acid facewash for the second cleanse. Definitely not going to repurchase it. Nor would I recommend it. 4) Good Vibes Rosehip Oil Serum sample 1 ml: I got this free with my Minimalist Sunscreen and Biotique facewash purchase. I was very skeptical of it especially since it has oils in it ( Rosehip, Almond, Jojoba, and Sesame) along with vitamin E and I have super super oily skin. I was worried that it would make my skin turn into a grease factory in no time but surprisingly the Rosehip oil serum was very nice. I accidentally added four or five drops instead of two or three and it still didn't feel heavy on my skin. It was actually very very light and I could feel that it didn't block my pores. It had a slight oily look on my skin initially but after 30 seconds of massaging it in and then after ten minutes of absorption my skin feels surprisingly hydrated and moisturized and not at all oily even after two hours of application. So I'm considering a possible future purchase of this one :D 5) Plum Green Tea toner: I also got the 50 ml version of this free on the same Purplle purchase. I tried this toner a year ago and it severely irritated and inflammed my skin and didn't help with my oily skin at all. For all it's talk of "Alcohol free! Paraben free! Cruelty free!" and green washing marketting it sure as hell seemed like one of the worst toners to even look at and like it had something similar to strong alcohol in it. It had super heavy fragrance and harsh irritants in it. I thought by now they would have reformulated it and improved it so I tried this free sample again...like a moron.. and it did the same thing it did to my skin last year.. I had to immediately wash it off to get some relief. Sadly since I don't like wasting stuff ( even though I didn't buy this) I decided to dilute the entire toner with water ( one part toner, three parts purified water) to use on my skin so I can finish it off. Hopefully it doesn't do anything bad. Would never purchase or recommend it to anyone. TLDR: The Snail cream, Biotique Facewash, Green Tea toner and Minimalist Sunscreen were terrible and I now understand that the vitamin "F" in the Sunscreen stands for Failure 👀 The Good Vibes Rosehip Oil serum was Fantastic!
