Fraud's Cool, Right?
Siiiigh... Tonight gentle reader, we shall speak of a criminal mastermind thwarted, of justice prevailing, and miscreants humbly learning their lesson. Okay, that may be a bit much. Buttercup the Emotional Support Unicorn is in her paddock over by the coffee station if anyone needs some magical sparkles right now. It's been a nice enough night. I've been catching up on old Batman cartoons when the phone rings. "Hey, uh, do you have any rooms available for like, right now?" Gentle readers, I have been doing this job for holy crap has it been that long and let me tell you, the Skwrl Senses are a-tingling right away. Oh boy. I tell the caller that yes we do, and our rates. Hopefully the room and tax is high enough to dissuade the bearer of bad vibes - ah nope, they're showing up ten minutes later. Nuts. The car is a very nice sports car. The driver isn't old enough to drink yet. I type in the info from his license, and then ask for a card for payment. There is a sensation not unlike Buttercup tugging my sleeve as he hands me the card. It's one of those nice metal ones, with the name of a fancy bank and probably a decent limit. It also has a woman's name on it. "I'm sorry, but I am going to need another form of payment." "It's cool, it's my girlfriend's card." Of course it is. "No, it's not cool. You cannot use someone else's card." "Oh, does she need to be here?" Young man, if you are as stupid as you are pretending, I do not think you should be driving... "Is she in the car?" "Yeah, but she doesn't have her ID..." Of course she doesn't. The Skwrl senses are ringing loudly at this point. "I need a valid card, a valid ID, and a person, and all three need to match or you will not be getting a room tonight." It is at this point that I have slipped into Dad Voice. Being single, I don't get to use it very often, but damn is it good when I do, and this guy is young enough that I can see him flinch. "Uh... I have a card I can try, but it's probably not gonna work..." The card is another fancy one, from the same fancy bank, but with his name on it. Strange that he and his girlfriend would have identical cards, but I try anyway. I am completely unsurprised when it declines. He has a very fancy car, fancy credit cards, and yet he can't swing a $120 authorization? Harrumph. He dips out to go and "talk to his girlfriend", which in my experience usually means the person just doesn't want to admit they can't afford the room. To my great surprise, she actually walks in about ten minutes later. "So my boyfriend says you don't wanna use my card if I'm not here." Her tone is snotty and abrasive. I think I now know why the boyfriend has spent all his money, but she hasn't... "That is correct. I need to have a valid card, valid ID, and the person they belong to. Fraud protection." She doesn't like that. "Well, um... I don't have my ID, but I've got a photo of it on my phone?" Please remind me that I need to print a photograph of a hotel room. Maybe get it laminated. "Sorry. Physical ID only." "But that's all I have." Her tone is the same, but she's trying a sad little puppy face. "Then I hope you have a good night. The door is to your right." The pair leave, presumably to find someplace else with less stringent rules about fraud. Some grand and mysterious place, full of magic and wonder, no doubt. Speaking of which, take some time to say good night to Buttercup, and may your night be free of amateurs trying to use cards that are not theirs. Teal Deer; young couple try to use a card that's probably not theirs. submitted by /u/SkwrlTail to r/TalesFromTheFrontDesk [link] [comments]

From Curious to Collector: My First Sports Card Shop Experience
I’d like to think today I graduated to the middle school echelon of card collecting. I went from walking by the war torn shelves of wal mart and target like a kid walking past a pet store, to my first visit to my LCS. Free Shoutout to Franks Card World in New Castle, PA about an hour north of Pittsburgh. I had some free time at lunch and was nearby. An old colleague recommended a visit when I shared with him I’d started collecting, so I decided to pop in. A little back story to me. I’ve bit into the hype, and don’t fit the niche I’ve noticed most Reddit collectors do. Sports cards took over my doom scrolling algorithm, I’ve always stayed in the loop of pretty much all major sports, like any man in his 30s, and decided I needed something to keep me from like round 10 of depression. Anyways. Franks store blew me away. In a relatively newer strip mall out of town. (If you’re nearby, you know NC can be a bit seedy). From older single packs on a shelf alone in the checkout area, a table stocked with penny sleeves and PSA submission forms, about 10 or so cases separated by sport of singles, both on wall, and stands. It was cool to see. The lighting also really stood out to me. I don’t know why I had this perception of white walls, hospital lighting, and indoor flea market vibes, Franks has more of the man cave vibe. Dark carpeting, dark walls, a nice touch. Another room is for degenerates like me. The wax room. Separated by sport again, from Heritage fat packs, to hobby boxes. I will say, in the bit I’ve learned the last month or so. It seemed like they took advantage of demand, I don’t quite remember, they did have NFL Chrome, i think the blaster was 55, and mega was 85? Don’t quote me on that, but I recall thinking in my head it was 15 or so dollars above retail, but, you can’t find them anywhere else right now. There’s also an arcade room, I didn’t check it out as much, but looked to be some staples, air hockey, a racing game, couple others. I grabbed a 25 MLB Update blaster, just for the sake of supporting, contrary to the nfl chrome, priced right at retail at 25. Not to rip to hit the lottery. But for the dope, and see some cool cards, and find the series I really enjoy the art of to mold my PC niche. Struck up a conversation with the owner at the checkout, who came across as a good guy, not the stereotype I’d had in my head trying to rip people off. He told me they also have a golf simulator further back, told me their story, and was really positive. As someone who’s new to the hobby, trying to spend less on online poker, and supplementing that for some cool cards and dope from ripping wax, I’m not sure how often I’ll frequent the shop, but thought it was definitely worth sharing my positive experience. I’d like to think as I find my own niche in the hobby, browsing the singles walls, and creating a relationship, and working on the negotiating conversations would be beneficial here, or suggesting to the wife of a hobby box for a birthday idea. If you’re in the WPA/E Ohio area, I recommend checking it out. Disclaimer: No. Not an ad. Just a newbie sharing a positive experience in what can be an overwhelming and intimidating experience. submitted by /u/Durnell88 to r/sportscards [link] [comments]

Got a large amount of sports cards from my dad a while ago, and I'm looking to sell them before moving, but I'm not sure how to go about it.
I scanned about 100 of them in an app and just from those it said based on eBay sales they were worth around $80 USD. I did pick out the more valuable looking ones, i.e. the ones that were in sleeves, as well as about 80 regular ones, but it is a lot of cards to go through and scan all of them. I was hoping for some advice or help on what I should do with them. They also look to mostly be printed in the late 80s to the mid 90s if that means anything. submitted by /u/IcyTVGames to r/sportscards [link] [comments]

Sports Cards/TCG Seller First Show Questions, Information, and Info
I am going to be doing my first Whatnot stream today. I will be selling hockey cards, hockey hobby packs, and doing group breaks. I plan to add Pokémon cards at some point but I want to start with hockey since my Pokémon collection is not for sale. I have bought some hobby boxes, display materials, shipping materials, and a thermal printer to be prepared for this show already. I will post a link to everything I have bought, if you have any recommendations for items to add or places to get what I bought cheaper please let me know. I am always looking to be more efficient and save money/time. I also have a whiteboard and dry erase markers. I have already top loaded and penny sleeved all of my cards. I have spent several hours organizing my cards in a 5 row so they will be ready to go for the show upon requests. I have set up a few items in my shop for the show. I have test fit items to fit in my display for the show. I have been joining random peoples shows in hockey card category chatting a bit, buying from them to support them, and letting them know I will have a show and when. I plan to set up a Youtube channel to also stream to. I am making a discord server for it as well. In there I plan to have a section where we can share deals on shipping supplies and other things needed to run a Whatnot store. I also plan to have when I go live in there as well as other Whatnot sellers. Hoping to build a little community. One of 2 things that I am currently unsure of 1. shipping- what shipping profiles to use, how to set them up. I only want to ship with bubble mailers so that cards are secure and protected. How to set max amount of cards before being charged again. I do not want to pay for shipping items if i can avoid it as i plan to keep my prices low to hopefully draw a crowd, but I do not want to lose money either. 2. OBS- I have not really used this software at all, but I am under the impression that I will need it to live stream my monitor to the show, share to multiple sources, use multiple cameras. I think to start I will just use my phone and only the what not app, but I do have 2 webcams that I plan to use if it grows and as I learn the OBS software. If you have any insight here or useful links to help me learn I would greatly appreciate it. Here is a link to my show for anyone interested Top Shelf https://www.whatnot.com/s/0QLCY96A Side note I didn't want to put cards or break in my name to help with mail theft, and to help people hide their hobby purchases from those they don't want to share it with.

Finally got my father's grail graded! Been sitting in a box since 1995!
My father passed away in 2017 and I inherited all of his sports cards from when he was a child. He stopped collecting and buying cards after I was born and he never really talked about them much. Fast forward to 2025, I decided to go through some of them and I found 3 of these cards in screw down cases. I took them out immediately and re-sleeved them in new penny sleeves and semi-riged holders. I still have 2 more to get graded but wanted to share this first one! The one I graded is in the middle on the 2nd photo. submitted by /u/coe1757505 to r/sportscards [link] [comments]

Tips for Whatnot Setup/Supplies For Selling Sports Cards
Hey all, I’m hoping to start selling sports cards on Whatnot soon and want to upgrade my setup a bit. I’ve been selling on eBay and social media for a while, so I already have the usual supplies (top loaders, sleeves, team bags, cardboard, mailers, envelopes, etc.). I’m looking now to move cards in more volume through Whatnot streams. For those who already sell on Whatnot, what gear or supplies made the biggest difference for your setup? Things I’m curious about: Lighting / camera setups Card stands or other things for display Anything that helps make the streaming process smoother or faster Any tips or recommendations would be appreciated. [USA] [H] amiibo cards (Animal Crossing, Mario Sports Superstars, Street Fighter 6, Yu-Gi-Oh) | [W] amiibo cards (AC Welcome Amiibo, MSS, SF6, Japanese exclusives)
I'm close to completing my amiibo card collection across the various sets. I'm looking for North American Animal Crossing Welcome Amiibo, Mario Sports Superstars, & Street Fighter 6 cards, in addition to the Japanese exclusive Yu-Gi-Oh! & Power Pros baseball cards. Please let me know if you have any cards I need. I'm willing to do very lopsided trades for the Welcome Amiibo & Japanese exclusive cards in particular, since I realize those are more rare. I recently traded 17 Series 1-4 AC cards for 2 Welcome Amiibo cards, for example. I am NOT selling any cards for the time being! All amiibo cards are in Beckett Shield clear standard size soft card sleeves & Ultra PRO 3" x 4" vinyl hard plastic toploaders that I opened myself, from packs I purchased from retail. My lone Japanese Isabelle (215) card is the only exception (purchased as part of a bundle with other cards). I have taken very good care of the cards, and they should be near-mint, but I'm happy to provide more detailed pictures upon request. Help with sports cards!
Sorry in advance, but I’m brand new to sports cards. I just spent more money than I should have (around $800) on retail and hobby boxes to start up a collection, with mostly football, but a small mixture of baseball and basketball too. My big thing is that I think I’ve pulled two really good cards… Hard cased and then sleeved them immediately, but after looking them up, I’m even more convinced they’re worth some good money. What should I do from here, sell them raw, get them graded, look for investors? I’m just confused on the best way of moving forward if you pull something significant I guess? Thanks in advance for any and all info! submitted by /u/Separate-Principle29 to r/footballcards [link] [comments]

eBay standard shipping envelope for sports cards
What is your go to envelope for eBay standard shipping envelopes for sports cards? I ship anywhere from 1-5 cards per envelope although I’m sure I could fit more in bigger sized standard shipping envelopes. I’ve been using Shell Mailers by Hobby Armor. I put the card in a penny sleeve/toploader and then this envelope. They’re definitely a little pricier (yes I know bulk is cheaper). But I was wondering if anyone uses a cheaper envelope and has had good success. Thank you submitted by /u/DapperNeat7687 to r/Flipping [link] [comments]

how to organize/sell cards at a sports card show
hi all, I am new to the sports card hobby, mainly football and basketball, and have bought many packs over the past few years, I have kept the expensive cards/cool looking cards in the penny sleeves and the hard top sleeves if they are really nice. I need some cash so I want to sell some of these cards, but since most of them are in the range of $2-$10, what is the best way to go about selling these at the card show? I also have some more expensive pulls that are $25-$200 ish, and I’m not sure if these should be brought to card show or sold in a different way. Do I just show up with a huge box of random cards, by player, price, should I organize them by card type (topps chrome, panini, select, etc), or how should I bring cards so the people with booths can efficiently take a look at the cards and give me a price? Do these table people care if I don’t have a binder or what’s the best way to transport a bunch of mid range cards? submitted by /u/Past_Tomorrow1912 to r/sportscards [link] [comments]

[WIP] didn't finish my "lucky" rhinebeck sweater in time but still had an amazing time!!
Wanted to continue my tradition of knitting an personally meaningful colorwork sweater for my 3rd Rhinebeck (last two years here & here)! Had kind of an unlucky year in my personal life so I liked the idea of a very literal "lucky sweater" with a ton of lucky symbols inspired by traditional tattoos. I knit it with Mirasol Chusku yarn on US 5 needles. It's a raglan knit in the round with stranded colorwork and ladderback jacquard for big gaps im the colorwork. I started with justttt enough time assuming everything went perfectly but it turns out that was an irresponsible assumption haha. I originally started with a drop shoulder silhouette with Cascade 220 Sport and ran out of yarn and couldn't get more in time, blah blah blah, anyway I figured if there's one place you can throw your unfinished project onto barber cords and wear it out with stitch markers dangling, it's Rhinebeck! I also got to meet one of my test knitters for the Unicorn Tapestry Sweater pattern I released after my big project for Rhinebeck last year, so that felt so cool and very full circle :') Anyway here's the Ravelry project! I like the idea of sharing this design in some form or fashion but haven't fully decided what that would look like yet, first I need to finish these sleeves submitted by

My buddy knows that I am really into sports cards and his son recently found his collection of basketball cards from 1990. I hated to be the one to burst his bubble….
He texted me a video of his son going through his binder of old basketball cards from the early 90s that he had just found, and both of them were so excited. They had some skybox and NBA hoops, and had a few Jordans in top loaders without penny sleeves. “We have kept this stuff hidden away for over 30 years! How much do you think this stuff is worth?!” My response started something like this…” so let me tell you a story about the trading card companies and how they kind of slightly over printed some cards…” submitted by /u/CaptainBuckRussell to r/tradingcardcommunity [link] [comments]

Sports cards
I don’t post on here, or Reddit, very much, but I know this will be appreciated here. Just finished putting all my cards in new sleeves and (for the third time this year) a bigger binder (4 inches). 976 cards plus these cool negative prints my grandpa had that I got. All of the cards are different, and I have most of the classic players in here, like 9 or so JD rookies, and some other unique cards. I just do it for fun and not value. submitted by /u/Historynerd6063 to r/Commanders [link] [comments]

I was told you guys would like my 15 - 20-year-old time capsule I found.
This is my collection from when I was a kid. At the time, I just liked any and all holos, so some of the sports-card shops would save their promo cards for me. All the cards went straight from the pack or sleeve to the folder. Never played or handled outside of that. Stored in AC the whole time. From what I am told, it was probably best to keep them in the sleeves. Either way, probably going to piece apart and sell it. It's not doing much hiding in a closet. submitted by /u/thursday712 to r/Pokemoncardappraisal [link] [comments]

Sneak Peak at GameStop's PSA grading framework. Cheaper, faster, and more efficient than going through PSA yourself. $15/$20 for 45 day turnaround
Tldr; $15/$20 per card in a shorter turnaround than sending yourself. You can use your monthly $5 Pro credit or trade in credit to save on the fees and you also get free shipping as a Pro member. Also added screenshot of a sports card hobby account w/ 100k followers that posted about the launch of GameStop grading and got 30k views in one day. Currently none of these people shop at GameStop and all seem interested and are hyped to sign up for a Pro membership and not pay for their own packaging or shipping fees. Cards must be shipped in penny sleeve and top loader, which you can buy GameStop branded ones in store (high margin, low cost item). The service isn't even rolled out yet! Not going to call it a partnership, but PSA had to come to some type of agreement with GameStop and saw it as mutually beneficial to come up with this offer. Boomer club "fires" me from volunteering, begs me to come back two weeks later.
There's a 'fraternal club" in the USA that a vast majority of the members are boomers. In my state there are around 100 of these club houses alone. My family has been members of this particular one since the mid 40s, with my uncle being one of the former presidents of that club. So with all that in mind, I frequently volunteer around there, any thing my uncle asks me to do basically. Most of my volunteering is just cooking for them. Monday nights they want a taco night. Wednesday they want chicken wings. Friday night they want some dinner and a band. I do all the shopping for them (with the clubs credit card), all the prep, cooking, serving, and cleaning, all for free. The only thing I don't do is food running because they have waitresses that work for tips. About a month ago there was an issue. I was in the kitchen early doing the prep work for the nights dinner. In walks the boomer sporting the traditional boomer outfit. White Reebok sneakers, knee high socks, jorts, a collared polo shirt tucked in, and a fresh "I served" trucker hat. Looks me up and down and says I need to leave as I'm not dressed according to the clubs standards. Conversation went like this - Me - "and what's wrong with how I'm dressed?" Boomer - "you need to be wearing a collared shirt and can't have any tattoos showing!" Keep in mind I'm wearing a plain gray t shirt, black gym shorts, and a pair of converse. I'm also heavily tattooed, with two full arm and leg sleeves. Me - "well it gets pretty hot in the kitchen, I don't want to get dizzy or sweat a lot, so I'm not covering my tattoos. That rule was made for members in the dining hall anyways, not for kitchen staff or those in the bar area." Boomer - "you can either leave and get properly dressed before you come back or you can just leave as your services won't be welcomed" Okay cool, I left and went home and played some video games. Didn't finish the cooking, didn't serve that night, nothing. Had no intention on coming back. Fast forward to this past Thursday. Uncle calls me and said "I just got a call from (current president) and he said you left abruptly a few weeks ago and haven't been back since. Is everything okay?" I explained the situation to him and he said, verbatim, "ignore what they told you. Wear whatever makes you comfortable. Right now the kitchen is keeping that place open since the bars been losing money. submitted by /u/Myfakeaccount90 to r/BoomersBeingFools [link] [comments]

What is THE Marvel Holy Grail Trading Card? (Non-Sports Cards)
First we need to explore the concept of what makes a Marvel card a "Holy grail"? The term Holy Grail — or simply “Grail” — as it is applied in this sense, pertains to the seeking-out and/or the acquisition of something elusive, overtly special, and in some sense unobtanium, while collecting any type of item(s) in a hobby or such. To determine what makes a Marvel Trading card a Holy Grail, some factors include, but are not limited to: Rookie card i.e. this is normally applicable for sports where its the first player appearance on a LICENSED trading card with name/stats are stated on the card Original Art i.e. was the image an original art or art taken from a comic?
