Today while walking my dog near the beach, I found a lost Husky. Apparently it had been loose for a day and spent the night before outside. It had eluded other people, but I had dry liver treats so I was able to leash it. After talking to people, we found out that the dog belongs to a woman who is a little unwell but we could not locate her. I took the dog to a vet to scan her chip. The vet forwarded me the owners phone, which apparently was disconnected. I took the dog home. It made my German Shepherd, anxious, but aside from some whining and light barking they were OK. Other people that were helping locate the woman found her and she lives in her car parked on the beach. I went later at night to check on her and she was passed out so I left a note with my phone number. I am clear that it is this woman’s dog and it needs to be returned to her. From how other people described her she is not well and for all I know this might be her support dog. On the other hand, I feel terrible to give the dog back and see it loose again in a couple of days. It is a beach area that has hills a stream, a swamp and coyotes. Apparently, the police were called, she was nervous wrecked, and they advised her to not drive anywhere. My plan was to go tomorrow morning and hope she is lucid enough to take her dog back. If not, my teenage kids are on spring break and could take care of her for the rest of the week while we figure something out. Any advice? I only saw this woman passed out in her car, but have no idea how she’ll react tomorrow. From what other bystanders said, she was not particularly worried about the dog and seemed unwell. Forgot to mention, dog had no collar. She smells pretty bad but is fairly healthy, her nails are trimmed and her mouth and gums seem ok. She is very mellow and has not barked or shown any signs of aggression. She cried a little bit when I put her in a crate so I had let her out and she sleeping on a separate room that my dog. TLDR; found a lost husky, took her home, fed her and I’m keeping her tonight. Went out later, located owner, who lives out of her car and was passed out when I got there. By other people‘s account she does not seem well. I got a Create a bed kit and made a horizontal queen Murphy bed. Naturally, I didn’t figure out wall anchoring until I finished making the bed. I live in a super old building that has plaster walls with metal mesh behind it like chicken wire. I’ve never been able to find a stud in this apartment though have hung shelves successfully with toggle bolts. I figured there had to be some studs in there and I’d find them eventually. Turns out this is maybe not the case... The wall is 4in thick and is not an exterior wall. The baseboards are nailed to something, but drilling above where my magnet finds hardware in the baseboards does not hit a stud. Magnets don’t stick on the wall, stud finders claim that the entire wall is a stud. None of the outlets or light switches in the whole apartment are attached to wood, or anything else as far as I can tell, they're wiggleable (no outlet on this wall but there’s a light switch that’s not attached to wood). I drilled a lot of tiny holes every inch or so 16-34in in from the door and only ever hit what I thought was wall cavity after the plaster. I got a camera scope to try to see what’s in the wall. A neighbor told me he’s torn his open and found no wood whatsoever except around windows, otherwise just very far spaced thin metal something (which I’ve not yet encountered). Scoping the wall, I found that what I thought was a cavity is actually full of that pink foam type insulation behind the metal mesh so I can’t see anything. The plaster is very thick, you have to go nearly 2in to hit the foam which in a 4in wall doesn't leave room for much else. Anyone familiar with this type of architecture? The Murphy bed kit says you have to anchor it to a stud to counter the force of the spring pistons. What are my options here? I am 1000% determined to make this Murphy bed work somehow. Right now the cabinet portion just has sides, a top and room to attach a larger board to the top which would then anchor to the wall. The only idea I’ve had so far is to add a base and back to help weigh it down and distribute force to the floor, and then anchor it with a ton of toggle bolts, but I have no idea if that’s gonna break the wall. I could try the opposite wall but I expect it’ll be the same, and it’s a shared wall with another unit so if I’m gonna accidentally wreck a wall I’d rather it be the one that’s not shared. If I had to make a giant plywood platform the full size of the folded out bed to prevent tipping I’d still do it, that’s how much I want this Murphy bed. But ideally with a smaller foortprint. Any advice would be much appreciated! UPDATE: I got really excited because I found wood in the wall. But this wall would never make my life that easy. It was not a stud, it ended about 6in off the ground. Because life has been lifing, I waited until the last minute to plan spring break and it looks like we may be heading to NYC. We’re a family of four: 2 adults, a tween girl and a young teen boy. Any tips for making the trip fun for the kids but also a little relaxing for the parents (if that’s even possible in NYC)? 😅 My daughter is a girly girl (tea parties, spa/nails), and my son loves sports (tennis) and going to the movies. The idea for this dress has been lingering in my mind for a looong time. I know you don’t need an excuse to make something but there are just too many ideas and not enough time, so I axed it off my to-sew list in favour of more pragmatic makes. HOWEVER. After I bought my ticket for Frocktails this spring, they announced the theme was to be Enchanted Garden, so this not only reemerged on my list, but it fluttered straight to the top. The skirt was a modified #KwikSew2252. I wanted the silhouette of the skirt to resemble wings, so that was an easy accomplishment. I tried to create gathers along the medial edge of the front right panel but the paint changed the drape so I ended up pleating it instead (with mediocre results). I also added in-seam pockets because I never know what to do with my hands and everything. must. have. pockets. The bodice was self-drafted. I asked my husband to wrap me in Saran Wrap and cover that in duct tape (he happily obliged once I explained why). From there, I roughly outlined how I wanted the bodice to look by drawing my seams with a sharpie. After carefully cutting it off me, the real work began by turning that into workable pattern pieces. It took a few tries to get the fit right, and I finally nailed it after a couple of incredibly edifying sessions with a sewing coach that I won through last year’s event. I assembled the skirt and bodice separately, covered my office in garbage bags, then hand-painted the whole thing using acrylic paint mixed with a fabric medium. When the paint dried it stiffened the fabric just enough to make it a little more challenging to sew and achieve the flowier look I was aspiring to, but overall this is what I envisioned and I’m kind of amazed it came to fruition. Our 5 year-old asked me to do their nails last night in a "flower" theme for spring. They picked out all of the colors and the order, and we had so much fun doing this together. Crappy application is mostly my fault but not entirely lol. Kiddo (male at birth) recently told us they're nonbinary. This was not surprising to me or my husband, or to kiddo's current teachers, but right now both of our kids attend a Pre-K-8 Catholic school. We have a meeting with the principal this week to discuss how this will be handled when kiddo enters Kindergarten in the fall. I spent the entire day yesterday thinking about George blog message hitting about some future news involving Maisie Williams (who I adore and wish nothing but the best) and we all started wondering that it may be a spin off with Arya sailing West of Westeros and I think this may be the one move that finally forces me away from the book series. I am trying to have a lot of grace and love towards George RRM, I understand that this is his life and he is free to do whatever he wants to, but we have been waiting for the next book for 13 years, thats not a small time. Its been years since we got any update on the books, all we hear from now on its that he is just writing... yet, we do get lots of updates on House Of Dragon, A Knight of the 7 Kingdoms, Nymeria project in animation and now this new project with Maisie and its been clear to me that he just doesn't love the books anymore, so what's the point of re reading the books and writing theories and discussing future plots? In 2015 he decided to step aside from the tv show Game of Throne and promised to focus on the books, yet 10 years later, not only he had not delivered the final books, but has been more and more involved in a series of spin offs and adaptations. The idea of writing a tv show about Arya post A Dream of Spring ending, while never bothering to finish her story in the main book series is absolutely insane to me. Thats that mean she will sail West of Westeros by the end of the books? Will she finish her training in the House of Black and White? Will she ever return to Winterfell in TWOW or ADOS? Is he giving away her ending in the final books because he can not pass the opportunity of another tv show?? Seriously? One of the most important characters in the entire series, we are just going to find out about her ending via a crap tv adaptation? as an Arya fan I am struggling to be happy with the news. I am for the first time questioning if he has any adviser or real friend by his side. This would be like Tolkien writing a spin off involving Frodo leaving Middle Earth before even finishing "The Return of the King". Am I crazy to think that this may be the final nail in the coffin of this series? I tried to grab one of the books today, since it's a holiday in my country, but could not finish one chapter. My girlfriend and I are moving into a new apartment and while she was at work I helped her out by selling the two beds she had in her apartment because we were going to use my better beds that I had at my house. Little did I know when the cat is scared it hides inside the box spring. Until now there's been stuff under the bed preventing him from doing that but there was a hole big enough for him to crawl inside and hide in there. It is not a cat that ever goes outside and he didn't bolt out the door when I was helping the people from Craigslist purchasing the beds carry them out. She lived in Northridge Apartments in Rock Creek, and if you know those apartments there's two sets of doors he would have had to go through to get out (we would have noticed him leave). Well he's no longer in her apartment and we've been working with the buyer to search through his house/garage/perimeter where he stored the box spring once he got home. He strapped the box spring on top of the car for the transport so the cat could have jumped out on the transport as well at any moment. As you can imagine my girlfriend is absolutely crushed. I know some think 'it's just a cat' but if you've ever owned an animal I ask that you understand how unbelievably devastating this is. "Camo" was her world and I was the one who took that away from her days before Christmas of all times of the year. This is a picture I took of him literally 3 days ago when we were messing around with a costume we bought the little guy for christmas. Thank you for any help you may be able to provide. We would want to know, dead or alive what state he's in and can only offer $100 for him from the money we got from the beds. Moving is and this time of year is proving to be financially challenging! Next we have notified everything we can, posted lost cast posters around the areas he could be, and have registered the microchip service with his and updated the contact information. It will at least confirm if he's in the garage or not. At first I was skeptical of such a service but his stats are ridiculous so I can't argue with that, and he's close. The trap will be checked in the morning and every couple of hours through each day. I know a thought might be emptying out the garage to confirm he's not in there. Well that's a lot to ask a dude that just wanted a bed for $100. We're also trying to stay good with him since he's truly not obligated to do much more than he's already done for us, which is a lot over the past 24 hours. We are responding quickly with them and hope to get the story out in a better way. :) My girlfriend has put up more posters, talked to some neighbors and did more search. SHE even rented a thermal camera from Home Depot, found two bunnies, and 2 birds with it but unfortunately no cat. Had no idea that was even possible till again REDDIT. You all are saints! :) UPDATE 12/20/14 10:30p We spent the day moving but did get a tip from the front office of Northridge Apartments that a gentleman who lives there was out running this morning and saw a cat on Jacobson Rd. near the high school wandering around. It was darker out when he was running, and was not 100% positive on the markings but it interests us because there's really no residential properties off that area. My girlfriend is going to head over there in the morning to take a look around there more and call out for him. It is possible he's getting closer to home but now unfortunately she doesn't live there any more. We have talked to all surrounding apartments to look out for him as the apartments will only let the posters stay up for a few days understandably. We're offering $200 now that we didn't have to drop the pet deposit at the new apartments where we moved today...that was depressing for sure. We're definitely keeping good spirits about it though and have found a spot for his cat tree at the new place. The cage keeps empty at the box spring garage. Worried sick- and can't stop crying throughout the day. It's a big life change, and it's hard to be alone when you've had a pet to greet you for the last 5 years. Short story: Caught him in a trap hours after setting it near the new location where the box spring traveled, meaning he did in fact take the car ride all the way to the new bed owner's house near Hillsboro airport. We were assured by a caller in the area that they did indeed see Camo based on the pictures available and we got a small animal trap setup near the sighting, came back an hour and half later and he was in there! Longer story: After another sighting was reported near Northridge Apartments yesterday (original home), we searched for a few hours finally spotting a cat outside an office building that looked very similar to Camo, but wasn't him. There was food, water, and another indoor cat in the window of the office. We had three sightings reported on different days at that same corner or near of a cat that looked like Camo, we realized that it was most likely that cat both times so we decided to look more at the Evergreen & Sewell near the Hillsboro Airport (new home of the bed). After distributing some fliers, Hayley went back set trap with sardines in oil and familiar scented clothing, then left. About an hour and half later she came back with her friend Kelly to do some more searching. Camo was in the trap! Although scared and hissy, they got him in the car and headed back to familiar territory: his old home. After further inspection Camo had a cut lip, several of his nails were broken / paws were bleeding, one of his eyes was squinty, he of course was a mess, and he was very thin (lost about 2 pounds). He spent the night getting up several times eating and drinking and was taken to the vet this morning. The vet gave him an antibiotic shot, a good inspection, and he was off back to home where we think we pulled a tick off and are treating him for fleas. Hayley gave him a bath and he's been cleaning himself vigorously since. All is good, and we expect the news to be covering this pretty extensively so that's why we've waited to release this until we had some time to discuss the plan. We can't ever repay or say thank you enough to all the people that spent their cherished holiday time, and resources to help us bring Camo home. It was quite emotional last night, we're in shock of this whole experience, and have been holding him tight! It's been quite the ride and we couldn't possibly formulate the words to describe how grateful we are for all the people who have reached out to us for suggestions, help, stories, comfort, and information. It's the best feeling in the world to know friends and strangers a like has had our back in time of need, and to have him back safe and recovering. We can't even imagine what's he's been through in a week and half running wild near the country side esoecially in this weather. Today is a great day! My 4yo has just started preschool last week and two weeks before began dropping her afternoon naps. So in short by 5pm, she’s cranky, hangry and tired. I’m hoping she’ll settle down into this routine soon with the earlier bedtime. My husband is a classic pushover dad. He can’t stand to hear her crying so he either gives in and gives her what she wants or leaves for me to deal with it. Today it’s stinking hot and she decides right before dinner time she wants us to run in the garden. After being told no she starts losing it. Death by heatstroke wasn’t an acceptable option so pushover dad can’t give in. He leaves the room. 20 minutes later he comes back and I’m humming away plating up dinner while our daughter is still crying under the table. He’s calling me an AH for ignoring and not comforting her but here’s the thing: when she’s melting, giving her any reaction makes it worse and extends the crying time. I would never ignore my daughter if she’s crying because she’s scared or hurt but during meltdown crying she doesn’t want to be hugged or spoken to, she wants us to play chasey outside. Normally she’s a good child and the crying doesn’t last longer than two minutes before she pulls herself together. But every so often she has an epic meltdown that takes ages before she decides she’s done. One she’s done she says sorry, we hug and it’s like I’ve got a completely different child. But AITA for pretending she’s not screaming her head off because I have no idea what else I was supposed to do! **edit: thank you so much for the comments. Glad to know I’m not insane although it feels that way sometimes. I just want to clarify the bit about my husband walking away. Kids crying (especially your own) to me sounds like nails across a chalkboard. Like it gets me on edge and I get all jittery listening to it. The feeling was 1000 times worse when I was breastfeeding so I get why it gets my husband on edge too. Only when it happens he’s like a wound up spring and being in the same room with him on edge and a screaming child sends me over the edge. Like I only have enough brainpower to handle one at a time. So often I send him out of hearing range so I can sit there and just wait for her to finish screaming it out without him giving me unhelpful suggestions to stop the crying. As for people telling me I’m an AH because I didn’t talk to her or offer a cuddle, if I reached for her before she’s done she flails and thrashes in my arms. And I didn’t force her to drop the 2pm nap. She’s done it all on her own and if I keep her in there until she finally sleeps at 5pm, she’ll go until 7:30pm and be awake until midnight.
