What’s on your Portland summer bucket list?
New in town and I’m making the ultimate summer bucket list. What screams “Portland summer” to you? I want the deeply essential experiences—like if summer came and went without them, you’d feel like you missed it. submitted by /u/sydney69 to r/askportland [link] [comments]

Local “bucket list” ideas?
I have the summer off with my three kids age 15, 12, and 10. Money is tight so we haven’t signed them up for camps and only have one vacation to Maine planned. I can tell my kids are a little disappointed so I’d like to come up with some fun day trips. Most likely it will be me and the two younger kiddos as the oldest is working with dad during the week. They are excited to do the Aquarium and Canobie Lake. We are familiar with all the beaches so don’t need ideas relating to that. We are located in Merrimack Valley and willing to do up to an hour drive. Thanks! submitted by /u/Accomplished_Bed7120 to r/massachusetts [link] [comments]

Yes, a Bay Area “bucket list” request. What have I missed?
After 4 plus decades, I’m heartbroken to be leaving the Bay Area this summer. With the time we have left, with my family, I want to hit the spots that we’ve missed, and possibly weren’t even aware of. I combed the responses from previous posts and made the list below, but wanted more opinions in case there was anything quintessential or awesome & obscure that I’ve missed. I myself have done several of the things listed, but my 6 year old hasn’t. Edit to add: I have done a ton of stuff in the Bay Area (Winchester, Sonoma, Alcatraz, etc), but it’s almost impossible to list everything, so I’d rather be inundated with ideas than miss anything. Appreciate all the great suggestions, please keep them coming! - Bioluminescence kayak tour Tomales Bay - Exploratorium alcohol night - Eat in-season crab…somewhere - James Lick Observatory - Gilroy Gardens - Hakone Gardens - B&R Farms for Blenheim plums - Summer weekend in Tahoe - Gold country weekend - Walk across Golden Gate Bridge - Go to El Faralito - Arzimendi Bakery - Hike Mt Tam/Marin headlands - Fentons Creamery - Concert in Stern grove - Rosicrucian Museum - Picnic in Golden Gate Park - Ferry ride to Sausalito - Muir Woods - Big Sur - Salesforce Park - Japantown submitted by /u/justpassingthru_1992 to r/bayarea [link] [comments]

I saw 290 movies in theaters in 2025. Here is my full ranking.
Every year, I go to the movie theater as much as possible. It's my favorite place in the world. I first started keeping track/scores/reviews/ticket stubs in 2015. Since then, I've seen 1,827 different movies in theaters: 5 in 2015, 9 in 2016, 146 in 2017, 162 in 2018, 192 in 2019, 44 in 2020, 86 in 2021, 270 in 2022, 325 in 2023, 298 in 2024, and 290 this year. For this ranking, I'm only counting movies I saw in theaters, nothing that I watched at home. I'm not counting re-watches. I don't have a specific scoring system, it's just a rating I give to the movie right after watching. I've included a few re-releases, short films, and TV series, as long as they were seen in a theater (and for the first time). This is all just for fun and not meant to be taken super seriously, I'm not a professional movie critic. I just like going to the movies. I attended 9 film festivals in 2025 for a total of 124 movies. 97 movies had cast and/or crew in attendance for Q&As. There were 26 World Premieres, 11 North American Premieres, 11 Canadian Premieres, 11 East Coast Premieres, 17 Southeast Premieres, 20 Florida/Georgia/Orlando/US/Tampa/South Florida/International Premieres: Toronto International Film Festival - 29 Movies in 7 Days SCAD Savannah Film Festival - 29 Movies in 8 Days Fantasia Film Festival - 18 Movies in 6 Days Florida Film Festival - 13 Movies in 5 Days Miami Film Festival - 11 Movies in 5 Days Popcorn Frights Film Festival - 11 Movies in 8 Days Gasparilla International Film Festival - 6 Movies in 3 Days Miami Jewish Film Festival - 5 Movies in 3 Days Rendez-Vous Cinema Quebec - 2 Movies in 2 Days There were 11 movies that I re-watched in theaters: One Battle After Another - x7 Hamnet - x3 Nouvelle Vague - x2 Sinners - x2 If I Had Legs I'd Kick You - x2 The Testament of Ann Lee - x2 Highest 2 Lowest - x2 The Life of Chuck - x2 Him - x2 Twinless - x2 Sentimental Value - x2 I have AMC's A-List, Regal's Unlimited, Cinemark's MovieClub, as well as memberships to the Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Toronto film societies. I saw 290 movies in theaters in 2025. Here is my full ranking: The Testament of Ann Lee - 10/10 - It's a sprawling, intoxicating, and beautiful historical-epic with some of the best dance-sequence choreography I've ever seen on film. All of the performances are perfect, the songs/prayers are all memorable, the narration grabs you from the first second and never lets go, and it's got the most confident directing of the year. I wanted 5 more hours of Mother Ann's story. In a fair world, Amanda Seyfried is the runaway Best Actress Oscar winner. This'll go down as one of the best period-dramas of the 21st century. There's one or two masterpieces per year, Ann Lee a no-doubter for one of those spots. One Battle After Another - 10/10 - Green Acres, Beverly Hillbillies, and Hooterville Junction. Marty Supreme - 10/10 The Perfect Neighbor - 9/10 - I've not cried in a movie theater this much since Moonlight. It's the kind of movie that will make your blood boil and will make you melt to your seat by the end. The bodycam footage where the dad has to tell his two sons that their mother isn't coming home is something that will leave a scar on your heart forever. It's also very impressive on a technical level, the best documentary editing since Apollo 11 in 2019. I can't imagine all of the work that went into piecing this thing together. Sinners - 9/10 Brokeback Mountain (Re-Release) - 9/10 - I'm a bit late to the party here, this 20th anniversary theatrical-release was the first time I've seen this movie, and goddamn was it worth the wait. One of the most powerful love stories ever shot. It's the ultimate "what could've been" love story. Heath's performance is generational. I'm now a card-carrying member of the Brokeback Mountain Was Robbed for Best Picture by Crash Society™. Warfare - 9/10 - You can't talk about Warfare without first shouting out the insanely-great sound design. You could watch this movie with your eyes closed and still be impressed. An impossibly-tense war movie that makes 95 minutes feel like 10 minutes. It's really this generation's Black Hawk Down (huge compliment). It's a lot more grounded and believable though, with an outstanding ensemble cast. I love that nobody is a supersoldier in this, just guys in a bad spot in a bad point in time. It doesn't glorify but it also doesn't minimize. This movie will stand the test of time as one of the best war films of the decade. This thing was custom-built in a movie-lab just for me. Sorry, Baby - 9/10 - Eva Victor is 2025's major revelation. This movie is heartbreaking, hilarious, bittersweet, and soul-warming. It's probably the best Original Screenplay of the year too. This made me realize how much I really missed Lucas Hedges. So cool to see him pop up again. Bugonia - 9/10 - Yorgos doesn't miss. Hamnet- 9/10 - An all-time child-actor performance from Jacobi Jupe. This movie is equally soul-crushing and hopeful. Jessie Buckley's close-up when Hamnet dies is pound-for-pound the best single scene of the year. F1 - 9/10 - As far as fun-summer-blockbuster movies go, F1 is as good as it gets. It's this year's Top Gun: Maverick. Was it cliche? Yes. Was it predictable? Yes. Did I have a fucking blast for 2 hours? Also, yes. Keep pumping these out, Apple. The Phoenician Scheme - 9/10 - Asteroid City & The French Dispatch were slight missteps, but Wes Anderson is officially back. This movie overflows with heart & laughs. (with 10/10 production/set design as usual) Sacrifice - 9/10 - Anya Taylor-Joy was born to play an Icelandic eco-terrorist and Chris Evans was born to play the narcissitic, A-List actor in a rut suddenty thrust back into the limelight. Gorgeously shot, laugh-a-minute first act. I had a really great time with this one, it reminded me a lot of Don't Look Up. Very surprised everyone hates it. The Smashing Machine - 9/10 Magazine Dreams - 8/10 - Jonathan Majors comes in with maybe one of the most physically-demanding performances of all time. Without the real-life drama, this might've been an Oscar-winning role for him. Great movie. Highest 2 Lowest - 8/10 - If it wasn't for an extremely uneven first act and some classic weird Spike quirks in there, like insane transitions and some "how do you do, fellow kids?" moments , this would be one of the best movies of the year. It's still really really great, and the insane score kind of grows on you as it goes. Denzel is at the top of his game. My favorite Original Song of the year at the end. Train Dreams - 8/10 - It takes a while to grow on you. It might take an hour, it might take 5 days, but it'll eventually hit you like a....train (sorry). It's a beautiful slow burn about appreciating life's fleeting and rare moments of joy. The world keeps going on without you, and that's okay. It's extremely reflective and existential. Beautiful stuff. It did what A Ghost Story did for me a few years ago. Presence - 8/10 - Lucy Liu. No notes. It Was Just An Accident - 8/10 - A lot more humor than I expected. The most impressive longshot of the year with that interrogation scene near the end. Mariam Afshari deserves more attention. And holy fuck does that pin-drop ending hit. There's a few ways you can interpret the ending too which is really cool. The Threesome - 8/10 Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie - 8/10 - If you like satirical comedies (like Borat), just do yourself a favor and check it out. You’ll laugh more in the first 30 minutes than in any movie of the past 5 years. I'm Still Here - 8/10 Black Bag - 8/10 Nouvelle Vague - 8/10 - A fun, sweet, breezy, delicate ode to the French New Wave. A movie for movie nerds. Zoey Deutch is a delight and Guillaume Marbeck is one of the year's breakout actors. Left-Handed Girl - 8/10 - A beautiful slice-of-life family drama that’s right up my alley. Wonderful performances from the 2 young leads (their first major roles) and possibly the catchiest theme track of the year. All fans of Sean Baker should check this one out. Nina Ye killed it at the Q&A. Splitsville - 8/10 - Hilarious, sharp, sexy. One of the better recent romantic-comedies (big emphasis on comedy). I laughed more during the first fight sequence than probably any other single scene this year. Advice for any shlubby screenwriters out there: co-writing a sharp, funny screenplay where your romantic interestes are 10/10s like Dakota and Adria is a good move. It Ends - 8/10 - Sometimes you're lucky enough to catch a great movie from a first-time director and you know they'll blow up soon. This is that movie for 2025. The Count of Monte Cristo - 8/10 - You don't get these types of epics much anymore. Really well made and crafted. It's the best Monte Cristo has ever looked on screen. Oh, Hi! - 8/10 Sacramento - 8/10 - Michael Cera, how I've missed you. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning - 8/10 Is This Thing On? - 8/10 - Career-best stuff from Will Arnett. If only Laura Dern's character wasn't so poorly-written and shitty. Great, improv-like scenes in the comedy club. Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery 8/10 - Doesn't quite reach the peak of the first one, but it's a step up from the 2nd. It's a lot more personal and dark than the other 2, which I really liked, and it keeps the (sometimes-outdated) humor. Fucktoys - 8/10 - It's Anora on mushrooms. It's weird, it's gross, it's got a ton of sex and some violence. It's kind of a modern nasty fairy tale. It's everything you want. Would recommend. Annapurna Sriram is a major talent to watch out for. Urchin - 8/10 - Part Safdie, part Glazer, part Leigh. A really confident and impressive debut film from Harris Dickinson. Harry Dillane is magnetic. Eternity - 8/10 Predator: Badlands - 8/10 A Quiet Place w/ Live Commentary (Re-Release) - 8/10 - This was the first "live commentary" screening I've ever attended. It was with co-writers Scott Beck & Bryan Woods (who also co-directed Heretic), moderated by Josh Malerman (who wrote Bird Box). A very fun screening, very insightful and amusing. Think Mystery Science Theater 3000, but for an actually-good movie. Final Destination: Bloodlines - 8/10 Companion - 8/10 No Other Land - 8/10 - Incredible achievement in documentary filmmaking. almost unfurls like a narrative drama. The only documentary other than 20 Days In Mariupol that's made me want to look away. It's really impressive how angry it makes you but also weaves in beautiful little funny moments of humanity that bring you back down to earth. You would think that "pouring cement down village water wells" was a cartoonish movie-villain move that would never actually happen in real life, but nope, it happens. The Girl with the Needle - 8/10 - Sometimes you just need a Cristian Mungiu-like hit of depression. This filled that hole. 28 Years Later - 8/10 The Long Walk - 8/10 - Not shying away from the brutality/violence is this movie's biggest strength. David Jonsson and Cooper Hoffman are perfect together. It's a very unique post-apocalyptic film, a different feel from the usual YA slop. Mark Hamill is very goofy and bad though. Rough casting there. Sentimental Value - 8/10 - This was a lot better on 2nd watch. In her limited screentime, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas puts in the best supporting performance of the year. She is the heart & soul of this movie. Truly heartbreaking stuff when Renate reads her the monologue at the table. The History of Sound - 8/10 - Shoutout to this movie for introducing me to Silver Dagger, probably the greatest folk song ever. I've had different covers of it playing on repeat since the minute I left the theater. Paul Mescal was amazing in his rendition. Beautiful, Brokeback Mountain-like love story about what could've been and regrets. A House of Dynamite - 8/10 - It's only fair to score this by act: First Act: 10/10 - Movie-of-the-year potential. Thrilling and engaging. I wanted to cry everytime Rebecca Ferguson was on screen. Second Act: 8/10: The greatest TV pilot episode you've ever seen. Greta Lee keeps getting done dirty though. Third Act: 3/10 - What a fumble nooooooooo Kathryn noooooooo. My Mom Jayne - 8/10 Sirat - 8/10 - Sound design that will have your clothes shaking during the rave sequences and have you jump during the (extremely) unexpected death scene(s). A great (but extremely bleak) odyssey through the desert set against the backdrop of the world falling apart. Good shit. She Dances - 8/10 - Whenever Steve and Audrey Zahn are on-screen together, the scenes burst with authenticity and genuineness. The script is sweet, funny when it needs to be, and sometimes brings out a few tears. Really great little family-drama. Hamilton - 8/10 Bring Her Back - 8/10 - Danny and Michael Philippou should be thrown in fucking jail for that scene of the kid chewing on the knife. Sovereign - 8/10 Weapons - 8/10 Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair - 8/10 - Confession: I had only seen bits and pieces of both Kill Bill movies prior to this. I had an abolute blast. The 2nd half doesn't quite live up to the first though. Avatar: Fire and Ash - 8/10 - Oona Chaplin awoke something in me. i'm now a Varangsexual. Mile End Kicks - 8/10 - Chandler Levack is Canada’s brightest up and coming filmmaker since Xavier Dolan. Pls keep her on your radar. Now she needs to make a movie without an annoyingly-unlikeable lead. Nuremberg - 8/10 - Your dad's pick for Best Picture. I had really low expectations, a 2.5-hour WW2 courtroom drama sounds like Oscar-bait 20 years too late, but a really tight script and perfect pacing kept me thoroughly engaged. It's also the best Russell Crowe performance since...Gladiator? Good stuff. I'm back on the WW2 movie train. Leo Woodall knocks it out of the pack with his monologue too. Out of nowhere. The Naked Gun - 8/10 Twinless - 8/10 Rebuilding - 8/10 - Lowkey family-drama set in the aftermath of a fire that destroys a man's family ranch. Josh O'Connor is outstanding as usual. Eric LaRue - 8/10 The Life of Chuck - 8/10 Frankenstein - 8/10 - It's undoubtedly technically impressive, probably deserves Oscar nominations in most tech categories. The cast and crew is stacked, and it's solid, but there's a major thing keeping it from being truly great/top 25 of the year: an interesting story. It's really good but classic GDT style-over-substance like Crimson Peak. Megadoc - 8/10 - Almost makes up for the actual movie. Almost. The Francis/Shia and Aubrey/Dustin dynamics were really fascinating to watch. Really great doc about the chaos of filmmaking. It's a shame Adam Driver and Nathalie Emmanuel didn't want to be filmed for it, but I can't say I blame them. Jay Kelly - 8/10 Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere - 8/10 - Everyone else is wrong, this thing was good. Atlantic City forever. Rosemary's Baby (Re-Release) - 8/10 Hurry Up Tomorrow- 8/10 - Maybe throw me in jail for this but I thought this thing rocked? Part Vox Lux, part Misery, part Good Time. Jenna Ortega absolutely smashes it (wish the whole movie was from her POV tbh) and Keoghan/Abel are pretty solid as well. If you can look over the self indulgence (which is kinda the point) and a bad 5-minute sequence near the end, this is a banger. The score and camework alone make it watchable. Trey Edward Shults fan until the day I die. Together - 8/10 Americana - 8/10 - It does jump the shark a bit near the end when like 45 people die and it becomes a bit unbelievable, but it's a fun Tarantino-like crime story and Sidney Sweeney/Paul Walter Hauser are great together. It's Never Over, Jeff Buckley - 8/10 The Fantastic Four: First Steps - 7/10 The Damned - 7/10 - Claustrophobic period-pieces are my shit. An overlooked January-dump movie that deserves more praise. The Ballad of Wallis Island - 7/10 She Rides Shotgun - 7/10 Christy - 7/10 Roofman 7/10 - A perfectly-solid action-crime-comedy with a stellar Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst. This would've made $200M domestic 20 years ago. It doesn't have the usual emotional devastation that you'd expect from a Derek Cianfrance film, but that's fine. Thunderbolts - 7/10 - Like most people, I'm kinda "over" the Marvel formula, and in general this was a bit more of the same, but Pugh and Harbour commit really hard and keep it very engaging and just-different-enough. It's one of the better recent MCU efforts. I liked Julia Louis-Dreyfus in a Veep-adjacent role. Materialists - 7/10 Dead Man's Wire - 7/10 Rental Family - 7/10 Sisu: Road to Revenge - 7/10 - A nice improvement over the first one, rare for a sequel. Some really impressive kills. Mickey 17 - 7/10 Shin Godzilla (Re-Release) - 7/10 The School Duel - 7/10 Eephus - 7/10 - A local beer league baseball team plays their final game at the local park. Makes you feel nice and fuzzy and warm. Dangerous Animals - 7/10 - Some actors are born for a certain role. Jai Courtney is that actor in this movie. Ballerina - 7/10 Vermiglio - 7/10 Violent Ends - 7/10 Good Fortune - 7/10 - There are some glaring flaws (like Aziz's acting & delivery), but it does a lot of things very well and has a sweet enough ending to keep this pretty good. Keanu's character is a highlight and has a ton of great lines ("I used to be a celestial being and now I'm a chainsmoker", etc) Secret Mall Apartment - 7/10 Blue Moon - 7/10 - Ethan Hawke is outstanding and basically shows off and runs circles around everybody for 100 minutes, but chamber pieces just aren’t reaching “great” level for me recently. Wicked: For Good - 7/10 The Surfer - 7/10 Eleanor the Great - 7/10 - Pure boomer catnip. Your grandma's favorite movie of 2025. June Squibb is a national treasure. Protect her at all costs. Blue Heron - 7/10 - An Officer and a Spy - 7/10 - Polanski still has a bit of juice. Nobody is doing courtroom-dramas like the French recently. California Schemin' - 7/10 - It gets a bit repetitive but it's a solid directorial debut effort from James McAvoy. A Big Bold Beautiful Journey - 7/10 Villes Jacques-Carton - 7/10 - Quebec represent. (weak year for Quebec cinema I'll admit) Normal - 7/10 - If you like John Wick and John Wick-like clone films, you’ll like this. Lots of fun kills. Lots of blood. Good popcorn flick. Not breaking any new ground though. The Ballad of a Small Player - 7/10 - Macau is a sick setting for a film, and I really dug the first hour, a degenerate gambler just digging his own grave, and the score from Volker Bertelmann is a standout of the year, but it loses its way a bit when he dies (or maybe he doesn't? who knows). Also, more Fala Chen please. Jurassic World: Rebirth - 7/10 Superman - 7/10 - There's some funny lines, solid needledrops, and Rachel Brosnahan is great as usual, but it's not enough to make it really pop. Solid movie, another decent entry in the comic book movie category, but it doesn't reinvigorate my enthusiasm for the genre as a whole like I'd hoped it would. Tatami - 7/10 One of Them Days - 7/10 - Katt Williams being the highlight of a movie in the year of our lord 2025 was not on my bingo card. We need more crowd-pleasing comedies like this in theaters. The Seed of the Sacred Fig - 7/10 Fackham Hall - 7/10 - The Trainspotting poster bit was so good. Non-stop bits and easter eggs, a fun time. The Wizard of the Kremlin - 7/10 Caught Stealing - 7/10 - Zoë Kravitz is gone far too soon. I Love LA (TV Series) - 7/10 Fight or Flight - 7/10 - It sequel-baits a bit too hard and the tech-villains are way too cartoony, but some solid kills, great lines/editing, and Josh Hartnett fully committing to the alcoholic, down-on-his-luck assassin bit really keeps it entertaining enough. Jane Austen Wrecked My Life - 7/10 Sisters - 7/10 Parthenope - 7/10 - It's a gorgeous-looking movie, I could stare at Celeste Dalla Porta for 10 more hours, and I'm a big Paolo Sorrentino fan but this feels a bit more style-over-substance than his usual output. The Monkey - 7/10 The Luckiest Man in America - 7/10 - When an indie budget is stretched to the limit and puts out a good movie. Terrestrial - 7/10 Two Women - 7/10 Sharp Corner - 7/10 - I watched this dubbed in French so the performances definitely took a hit, but it was a pretty biting look at the pressures of the workplace and family leading to a man's downward spiral. Ben Foster is always solid (even when he's dubbed in French-Canadian). Sweetness - 7/10 Spinal Tap 2: The End Continues - 7/10 - I have still not seen the original, but this was good enough as a standalone. The final performance scene leaves a bit to be desired, but there's enough humorous dialogue to keep it chugging along ("in the daytime, ghosts are just rumors" is my personal favorite". Almost Popular - 7/10 My Dead Friend Zoe - 7/10 I Am Frankelda - 7/10 The Amateur - 7/10 - It's basically Bourne-lite, but they don't make these globe-trotting spy movies enough anymore. I enjoyed it. Torture-by-pollen was a wild move though. On Swift Horses - 7/10 Merrily We Roll Along - 7/10 - As far as theatrical pro-shots go, it's below Waitress & Hamilton. At first the constant cuts are a bit annoying/nauseating, but it works itself out. Radcliffe has one really amazing/impressive song number (during the TV interview), Groff is outstanding throughout. Was not a fan of Lindsay Mendez at all. I wanted a bit more emotionally from the whole thing. The theme song is amazing. Heart Eyes - 7/10 No Other Choice - 7/10 - good but kinda very long, innit? Freaky Tales - 7/10 The Wedding Banquet - 7/10 - Fun little rom-com brought down a bit by rough acting and awkward line/joke delivery from Bowen Yang and the Korean guy. Lily and Kelly carried them big time. Loved the “we have to de-gay the house!!!” bit. Great ending too. (never saw the original) Freakier Friday - 7/10 Rust - 7/10 The Ugly Stepsister - 7/10 Come Closer - 7/10 La Grazia 7/10 - Location scouts for Sorrentino movies need special recognition. The Accountant 2 - 7/10 - The story is a bit overcooked (the X-Men-like school for autistic super-hackers is a crazy turn for this movie to take) and it gets a bit too Sound of Freedom-y, but the Affleck/Bernthal scenes together keep it from falling apart completely. Rise (Short Film) - 7/10 Tornado - 6/10 Inheritance - 6/10 The Housemaid - 6/10 Anemone - 6/10 - [Sean Bean stares in amazement at DDL's performance] x10. There's a few good lines ("god doesn't need undies, cause he's not full of shit like you are", "the explosion was so loud you couldn't hear it"), two amazing DDL monologues, and it looks amazing, but feels kind of empty as a whole. Definitely something missing. Spider & Jessie - 6/10 Orwell: 2+2=5 - 6/10 - Some sequences are truly must-see pieces of documentary filmmaking (like the grilling of the ghoulish tech billionaire fucks and the January 6th bits) but then others are so truly scattered and shoehorned that it disconnects you from the message of the movie. 9/10 potential here if it could get out of its own way. Don't Let's Go to The Dogs Tonight - 6/10 Charlie Harper - 6/10 - A cute story about a highschool sweetheart couple (an aspiring chef and an underachieving alcoholic, classic) that’s shot really great and acted well (othet than the non-existent drunk acting from a supposed alcoholic) but ultimately burdened by a mountain of cliches. Song Sung Blue - 6/10 The Toxic Avenger 6/10 - A Troma film should have more nudity. Let's bring nudity back. Put me down for more nudity. Tron: Ares - 6/10 If I Had Legs I'd Kick You - 6/10 Anaconda - 6/10 - One day soon I'll be tired and over and the ironic, meta, big-studio-movie, but today is not one of those days. I had a decent time with this. A The Legend of Bagger Vance reference in 2025 deserves some respect. Death Does Not Exist - 6/10 40 Acres - 6/10 Locked - 6/10 Paddington in Peru - 6/10 Clown In A Cornfield - 6/10 Captain America: Brave New World - 6/10 - Adding this to the never-ending list of good-but-forgettable comic book movies. The genre is stale as hell. Wolf Man - 6/10 - Really liked the POV switches, sound design, and creature design, but the rest is by-the-numbers horror flick. Drop - 6/10 Blood for Dracula (Re-Release) - 6/10 Taylor Swift - The Official Release Party of a Showgirl - 6/10 - The lyric video stuff was whatever/boring/filler but I really liked the behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Ophelia music video. I could’ve watched an entire doc of Taylor directing that video. Great song too. And the closing song rocked too. Fanny - 6/10 Find Your Friends - 6/10 All Her Fault (TV Series) - 6/10 Fairyland - 6/10 A Nice Indian Boy - 6/10 Eddington - 6/10 - There's some interesting stuff in here, but overall kind of a mess. That's been Ari Aster's vibe recently. A Minecraft Movie - 6/10 To Kill A Wolf - 6/10 Keeper - 6/10 Waltzing with Brando - 6/10 - Billy Zane is super convincing as Marlon Brando. The rest is forgettable. Re-Animator (Re-Release) - 6/10 Opus - 6/10 - John Malkovich could not have been more horribly miscast. There's a good cult movie hidden in here somewhere, but Ayo by herself couldn't bring it out. Needed some more passes at rewrites. Grand Theft Hamlet - 6/10 Den of Thieves 2: Pantera - 6/10 Novocaine - 6/10 Barcelona (Re-Release) - 6/10 The Roses - 6/10 - This was a Dollar Tree Marriage Story. Very tonally-uneven. Kate McKinnon is distractingly-bad. Cumberbatch and Colman work well enough together to keep it watchable but it's kinda messy. IT: Welcome to Derry (TV Series) - 6/10 Modern Whore - 6/10 100 Nights of Hero - 6/10 Ick - 6/10 Algiers - 6/10 Everything's Going to Be Great - 6/10 - I really wish Bryan Cranston didn't die early on in the movie. His character and charisma really kept this afloat at first. It mostly fall flats after he's gone, except a few sweet moments. Weirdly over-religious vibes to the movie. Angel Studios was probably close to landing this one. Abraham's Boys - 6/10 I Know What You Did Last Summer - 6/10 - Worth seeing for the Nicole Kidman AMC intro reference alone. Death of a Unicorn - 6/10 Clorofilla - 6/10 I Don't Understand You - 6/10 On Becoming A Guinea Fowl - 6/10 - It's hard to think of a more recent ending that's so unsatisfying. It's good until that. Fuck those last 5 minutes. Allen Sunshine - 6/10 Night of the Demons (Re-Release) - 6/10 La Gloria - 6/10 The Legend of Ochi - 6/10 - It's a gorgeous movie and very Wes Anderson-coded, but too childish to make a real impact. If I'm honest, Helena Zengel should've just spoken German (with subtitles) instead of intelligible English. Cleaner - 6/10 Bonjour, Tristesse - Lily McInerny is outstanding, one of my picks for "breakout" performances of the year, and I'm a sucker for a sun-drenched Mediterranean setting, but Chloë Sevigny is just so bad and sinks the rest of the performances. Love Machine (Short Film) - 6/10 The Shrouds - 6/10 Mermaid - 6/10 - With 20-25 minutes shaved off, this could've been great. It captures some of the gross underbelly of Florida that not a lot of movies can (The Florida Project being the best example), but it's dragged down by bad performances and a plot that's too dragged out. I wanted it to end at least 5 times. Dog of God - 6/10 Trust - 6/10 Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale - 5/10 - It loses a lot of the charm of the first 2 films. Dead of Winter - 5/10 The Friend - 5/10 Him - 5/10 Somnium - 5/10 Hard Truths - 5/10 Borderline - 5.7 - Full disclosure: I saw this in a theater but left about halfway because I saw a big ass rat crawling through the aisle (2nd time I've ever seen one in a theater. Other time was in 2019 for The Best of Enemies). That's gonna be a no from me, dawg. Finished the rest at home. All that being said, Samara Weaving is good but she can only do so much to carry a weak story. Hunting Daze - 5/10 The Chronology of Water- 5/10 - A completely incomprehensible first-45-minutes (by design I guess?), but Imogen poots puts in one of the most daring & brave performances in a while. A huge huge swing by Kristen Stewart for a directorial debut. Sometimes it hits, sometimes it misses hard. www.rachelormont.com - 5/10 - This movie is fucking disgusting. I'm pretty sure real-life misdemeanors/felonies were actually committed during the filming (seriously). But it's just weird and funny enough (especially during the meta, audience-speaking portion) to keep you locked in. A wild ride that I wouldn't take again but that I'm happy to have taken off of the bucket list. Honey, Don't! - 5/10 - "My left or your left?", "We're facing the same way" is one of the year's best exchanges, and there's a few of those gems, but ultimately this is one of the most disjointed movies involving A-list talent I've ever seen (looking at you, Amsterdam). Too much going on, some really awful performances (Charlie Day, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Evans). Only Margaret Qualley showed up. She rocks. Swiped - 5/10 - We have The Social Network at home. Bone Lake - 5/10 Black Phone 2 - 5/10 - There should be a law capping Blumhouse horrors at 95 minutes. Big drop-off from the first one. Madelaine McGraw was fantastic though. The Woman in the Yard - 5/10 Seven Veils - 5/10 M3gan 2.0 - 5/10 - I've gotta admit that there's a lot of really solid & memorable one-liners in here, but this movie really needed an R-rating and 25 minutes less of runtime. Fuze - 5/10 Now You See Me Now You Don't - 5/10 The Running Man - 5/10 - Edgar no :( Ella McCay - 5/10 - There's some truly baffling stuff going on in this movie (30-year old Ema MacKey unconvincingly playing a 15-year old for a part of the movie being one of them), but I love James L. Brooks too much to give it a lower score. #EllaMcCayChallenge Sketch - 5/10 The Well - 5/10 Queens of the Dead - 5/10 Unmoored - 5/10 Last Breath - 5/10 Mr. Blake at Your Service! - 5/10 Hedda - 5/10 - Aside from the solid costume and set design (and a few moments when I was reminded of Babylon), this was a pretty nothing-movie with a confusing plot and extremely unlikeable characters. The Virgin of Quarry Lake - 5/10 - Visually striking but much too slow. Mr. Melvin - 5/10 Armand - 5/10 The Bearded Girl - 5//10 Karate Kid: Legends - 5/10 Test Screening - 5/10 Sounds of Glass (Short Film) - 5/10 Invention - 5/10 The Penguin Lessons - 5/10 Another Simple Favor - 4/10 - This might be the most overcooked script of the year. There's just so much going on, you can't keep track of any character motivations, and it just throws in twists for the sake of twists. The original was fine, this was not good. Good Boy - 4/10 Hacked: A Double Entendre of Rage Fueled Karma - 4/10 Hot Milk - 4/10 - There's something good hidden in here, but it's irritating as hell. The Room Next Door - 4/10 - All of the bad of Almadovar (clunky dialogue, overly-melodramatic, etc), with none of the good. Boring as well Sister Midnight - 4/10 The Devil’s Bride - 4/10 After the Hunt- 4/10 - ??????????????? Snow White - 4/10 - I think Rachel Zegler is great. Whenever she wasn't on screen, I didn't care. Disney live-action remakes have to start caring a lot more about what they're putting out there. The returns are diminishing big time. Of Dogs and Men - 4/10 Shelby Oaks - 4/10 Nobody 2 - 4/10 - I never want to see Sharon Stone in anything ever again. Take the Oscar nomination away. Wish You Were Here - 4//10 The Baltimorons - 4/10 Die My Love - 4/10 - Shoutout to John Prine. The Carpenter's Son - 4/10 Dust Bunny - 4/10 The Rule of Jenny Penn - 4/10 - Painfully repetitive. Enough lens-flare-induced-blindness to probably qualify for a class action lawsuit. Flight Risk - 4/10 Anniversary - 4/10 - About as subtle as brick to the temple. Jesus christ. Ash - 4/10 Reflection in a Dead Diamond - 4/10 - Zzz... Apostasy Blues - 4/10 The Christophers - 4/10 - A very rare Soderbergh L. Such a bore. Did not help that I couldn't understand a single word Ian McKellen was saying and that Michaela Coel was horribly miscast. The G - 4/10 Rosemead - 4/10 Teacher's Pet - 4/10 - Coming to a Tubi near you soon. Ex-Husbands - 4/10 The Unholy Trinity - 4/10 - Bland RedBox (RIP) fodder. Samuel L. Jackson surprisingly cares so that kept it from a rock-bottom score. Away with the Fairies (Short Film) - 4/10 Atom & Void (Short Film) - 4/10 Eastern Western - 3/10 Cujo (Re-Release) - 3/10 - Had not seen it before, and I can still tell you it hasn't aged well. Awful. High Rollers - 3/10 Auction - 3/10 - There aren't many things in life more pretentious than art-related French films. The Thing With Feathers - 3/10 - Man this was a rough watch. The Home - 3/10 Thank You, Places! - 3/10 - A valiant effort by a local theater group to shoot & produce a movie during the height of COVID but I could've seen anything else and been more entertained. One Big Happy Family - 3/10 Homebound - 3/10 Good American Family (TV Series) - 3/10 The Story of Three Sisters (Short Film) - 3/10 First Rites (Short Film) - 3/10 Love Hurts - 2/10 - If I had a gun with two bullets and I was in a room with Hitler, Bin Laden, and Love Hurts, I would shoot Love Hurts twice. Kiss of the Spider Woman - 2/10 - I really enjoyed the 12-minute sequence of Diego Luna graphically and aggressively shitting himself (3 feet away from a toilet for some reason by the way?) while the lead character wipes it all up, that was super cool and cinematic and necessary. This movie was hot ass, in more ways than one. Extremely overhyped out of Sundance, there's one every year. Deserved flop. One of the few times a year I walk out of a movie theater angry. Nobody Wants to Shoot a Woman - 2/10 - Amateur hour. The worst Goodfellas rip-off you've ever seen. If you told me this was originally a Youtube short from 2008, I would believe you. The Verdict - 1/10 - The filmmakers should honestly be ashamed for submitting and screening this unfinished soap-opera-masquerading-as-a-film. The festival progammers should be ashamed for programming it and charging people for it. I should be ashamed for staying the entire 100 minutes. Shame all around, really. Nobody wins here. It’s like if a group of blind preschoolers decided to remake Anatomy of a Fall. Five Nights at Freddy's 2 - 0/10 - I thought Netflix’s truly-apocalyptical purchase of Warner Bros was the worst thing to happen to theatrical moviegoing in a hundred years, but then I saw Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. TIFU by fighting my schools dresscode policy. Years later I found out why it was so strict.
So 15 years ago today I fucked up bad and today I found out why. I was in highschool and our school had a pretty normal dresscode policy until this new younger woman teacher started. 3 months into her being there, she brings out this extremely strict dresscode policy but only for girls. It was the start of summer, the building had no a/c and the new dresscode limited girls to basically a frumpy tshirt and baggy jeans while boys could wear whatever we want. I being a rebelious little fuck did not like this. My girlfriend at the time was sad. Everyone had to go buy new clothes and every day they didnt do it they got handed this ugly big brown t-shirt of shame that says "i was out of dress code" and these big brown sweats. It was extremely uncomfortable. So what did I do? I started wearing every banned girls article of clothing. I wore short shorts that barely hid my ass because it was allowed. I wore lowcut shirts. I cut the sides off every tank top so it just showed my torso. I even wore a short skirt and a croptop one day to prove a point. I got away with it maybe twice before I started getting dresscode violated every day. I was in every detention for several months. I got suspended. I had to go to two weeks of summer school that year as punishment. I fought the system very hard. And others joined in. It got be almost every dude was getting dress code violated to stand up for the girls. Anytime we got the brown clothes we wore it with pride. It was damn hot in that building you'd pour buckets of sweat. They should have been allowed to wear shorys. I made my list of demands. Girls can wear tank tops, they can wear shorts. They can wear 4 fingers low cut tshirts. We all fought for it and eventually they caved in and gave it to us. I was so happy. It was a formative experience for me because I was willing to take any punishment no matter how severe to fight some perceived injustice. So I'm back in my home town its a small suburb of the outskirts of a city. And at the one bar everyone goes to I run into the teacher who forced the policy all those years ago. I go say hi and she instantly remembered me. So I sat down with her and her friends and we talked about it since it was so long ago and now i'm at the age she was when she was enforcing it. Boy did I get that situation wrong. So there were 4 particularly creepy male teachers at that time. 1 everyone knew about and 3 that were only known by faculty. They were preying on the girls. Taking random pictures of them, being extremely creepy, all sorts of innapropriate things they shouldnt have done. So she went to the board, brought evidence and reported them but they decided not to investigate. She told the police but when aftet a month nothing happened she changed the dress code to protect the girls but she couldnt explicitly state why she was doing it. Modern times caught up with those teachers and they are now fired but as an adult I see now that I ran a campaign to put the girls back in danger. Tl;dr In high school i fought an oppressive dress code system because i thought it was unfair to the girls. But 15 years later I found out it was to protect the girls from pedo teachers. Edit: added context Theres a couple questions about the logistics of how she enforced a dress code being so new. I'll try and give more details but again its 15 years ago i may not get it exactly accurate she was not the only teacher who wanted this but she was the strongest voice to stand up for this. Basically with the backing of several teachers she convinced the principle to implement the dress code. A lot more than just dress code happened. Prom had the bright lights on that year and girls got their dresses measured at the door. It was a fullscale push from a big section of teachers. But this particular teacher definitely was the one who championed it. these pervy men didn't exactly hide. The one we all knew about was actually a beloved and favorite teacher of the school because he was very funny. His policy, and I am not kidding. If you wore a low cut shirt and bent over when turning in your exam he would give you extra points on it. For fairness he did this for guys too so everyone in his class on test day effectively had their chest exposed. And we thought it was hillarious and saw nothing wrong with it because our older siblings all went through the same thing. I had to ask my mom to take me to buy my first low cut shirt freshman year because of this class and I explained why. Its genuinely crazy what you get away with if you're funny, well liked and dont act like anything is wrong. so when she came with a policy like this she was just a few years ahead of her time. There was a serious issue the dress code had slipped pretty bad. She and everyone who pushed the policy definitely over corrected. Looking back this was the logical finale to having several new eyes in an inappropriate school environment. I dont have enough characters to get into it its probably a whole other post on just my high school in that era's tea. But there was scandle after scandle that went unanswered and just became rumor. This really wasnt Edit 2: this post is still getting a lot of attention and I'm seeing a lot of similar comments so I'll add this In the moment of writing this I definitely was incorrectly swayed by her. I believe now what I did was right and and punishing the victims was not an appropriate way to handle creepy men. Looking back more on it the way they enforced the dress code was not ok. It was frequent use of humiliation to the girls. So not only were they being predated on by pedos, they were also being bullied and humiliated by those who claimed to protect them. Double Eyelid Surgery – My Experience at Wink and Complete Guide 101
https://preview.redd.it/1bhy00ilmaef1.jpg?width=1819&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=87e08c5d2ae4e91aa53fa9b69690f7fc8ce02f5f Clinic: Wink Plastic Surgery Doctor: Dr. Seunghyup Choi, Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, KSPRS #106811 Surgery: Incisional Double Eyelid Surgery, Epicanthoplasty, Ptosis Correction Surgery Date: 7/5/2025 Cost: Please DM :) Note: When I started my journey on getting DES, I told myself that I was not going to let price dictate my decision. If two clinics recommended the same procedure, I wasn’t going to choose the cheaper one just because it was cheaper. I really wanted to make a clear, informed decision based on the doctor’s skill, their recommendations and the clinic itself, and if it happened to be the most expensive one, then so be it. I did 4 in-person consultations and I ended up wanting to go with the most expensive clinic anyway. Disclaimer: The review “requested” was only to write about my experience, but I am going out of my own way to write this recap as part of a complete guide since it was hard to navigate this DES journey myself and I’m hoping this will help others. So take this for what you will, but I hope it’s evident that these are my honest thoughts. -- Background: 32F, Southeast Asian (born and raised in the States), one double eye-lid, one monolid, relatively healthy and this is my first (and hopefully only) double eyelid surgery. Reasoning: Not that I need to share this to justify why I did this surgery, but I want to write it out in case there are others who have similar experiences. I have an asymmetrical bone structure and my different lidded eyes make it more noticeable. There would be days when I would wake up and my right eye had a double lid and I felt my face was noticeably more “balanced” so I figured why not make this permanent. My goal overall is for my face to look more balanced, not shift my bone structure. Goal: Shape: In-line, with the fold starting near the inner corner and tapering out gently. I wanted a natural, subtle crease height – not too deep or dramatic and avoiding the “sausage” eye as much as possible. I didn’t want an exaggerated crease that would result in overpowering my eyes. I wanted to do incisional because I wanted this to be a permanent, one and done, surgery. I know a lot of people opt for non-incisional but the results may fade after 1-2 years (could be a good or bad thing, depending on the results), but I do not have that much money or PTO days to do this over and over again. I understood that incisional would be a higher risk which is why I wanted to do in-person consultations to meet with the doctors before I put my trust in any of them. I was open to either just doing surgery on my right eye or doing both eyes but I wanted to do whatever will achieve the best symmetry overall, so I left it to the doctors for their recommendation. I wanted the doctor to base their recommendations on my overall facial structure, not just “stamp” a crease on my eye. Approach: I did a two-trip trip. One for the in-person consultations and one for the actual surgery. I would highly, highly recommend doing at least 2 in-person consultations before committing to a surgeon. I knew I wanted incisional, which would mean I would need at least another 5 days in Korea to take the stitches out before my flight back. I have a limited amount of PTO days so I had a very narrow window of what days I could schedule the actual surgery. But of course, the catch is in order to secure a surgery date, you have to put down a deposit and I did not feel comfortable doing that without meeting the doctors first. There are people who make their trip to Korea 3-4 weeks long so they have the flexibility on their surgery date, but I did not have that luxury. After I narrowed it down to 4 different clinics, they each asked for a $200 - $300 USD deposit. Whether or not this was a scare tactic, the clinics said summer-time is very busy for them since that is when school is out. Since I already planned to do my surgery in the summer due to my office WFH policies, I had to act fast. My choices were to either pick one and pray for the best (which honestly wasn’t an option for me), put a deposit in for all clinics and just budget that as part of the cost of surgery, or actually do in-person consultations to ensure I felt confident in my decision. I realized I had enough travel miles and credit card points to get a flight to Korea that would actually cost less than putting down 4 deposits, so I decided to go that route. The warning on all the reviews I’ve read online is that you are not choosing the clinic, you are choosing the doctor. And I wanted to make sure I met with all the doctors so that I can choose the one I felt was the most competent, who fully understood my goals and who I felt most comfortable with. Regardless of your approach, you should be asking as many questions as you can with the consultants to help guide your decision and asking the same questions again when you finally meet the doctor. Step 1 – Research: These are the channels I used when researching doctors, clinics and results: Blogs, Reddit, TikTok, Instagram Naver Map reviews (app) Gangnam UNNI (app) Purse Forum (website) There are two sites to check if the surgeon is Board Certified. The Korean Association of Plastic Surgeons: https://www.prskorea.co.kr/english/sub/sub_03.asp Korean Society of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons: https://www.plasticsurgery.or.kr/eng/ I’m honestly still confused on the difference between the two but my understanding is that “Korean Association of Plastic Surgeon” is used more broadly but they may refer to the same organization depending on the context or translation. If anyone has more information, please help us out LOL! It’s hard for me to differentiate which reviews are fake or not (maybe I’m just gullible) so I relied on actual videos from actual accounts, not the clinics social media. With that said, I learned that influencers were getting discounts to write the reviews and more specifically, English-speaking influencers, to reach out to foreigners, and the more you saw a clinic being promoted by an influencer, the less real it is. But how would I be able to see real, non-photoshopped results and sort through the hundreds of clinics without social media, so who do I trust? My thought process was that even if the influencers are being paid, they did do the surgery so I at least had some photo/video data to see real-time results and recoveries, and if anything, I could mute the video if I didn’t want to hear their thoughts. After researching for what felt like forever, I narrowed it down to 4 clinics: Luho Plastic Surgery: Dr. Park has years of experience and his before/after photos were more along the style I wanted: conservative, natural, in-out/tapered folds. He seemed personable and warm in his videos and his English seemed pretty good so I felt I’d be able to communicate with him easily without having to hire a translator. Link Plastic surgery: Reddit had quite a lot of positive reviews of Dr. Jung Min-Su that seemed legit with results looking great. EYEHO Plastic Surgery Clinic: This clinic only does eye surgeries, and only operates 2 surgeries a day, which I liked. There were much less reviews on this clinic but I figured it was less marketed to foreigners, which could be a good thing. I did read quite a lot of reviews of this being the clinic that people would almost choose. Wink Plastic Surgery: This clinic popped up quite a lot on many social media channels, with everyone praising the head doctor, Dr. Choi. I was cautiously optimistic about this place because of the potential that the reviews were being promoted/inflated. Step 2 – Connecting with the Clinics: I downloaded Kakao to start reaching out to the clinics. It’s basically like a WhatsApp. It’s in Korean but you can change the language to English and it’s pretty easy to navigate. You chat with the consultant and send pictures/videos of yourself, along with any inspo pics if you have any (I recommend really researching to choose the right inspo pics. As I said, I have a double eyelid on my left eye so I basically just told them to match it to my right eye. I threw in some inspo pics that I thought matched my left eye and come to find out, it was a completely different fold LOL. So truly be as descriptive as possible). Luho: WhatsApp; friendly, easy and responsive. Link: Kakao; friendly, responsive and detailed. Eyeho: Kakao; friendly and informative. Immediately called out my bone structure and I appreciated the transparency and felt that the doctor took my whole face into account and didn’t do like a “default” setting. Again, the goal is facial harmony. Wink: Kakao; friendly informative and responsive. Quoted me a cheaper price if I did my surgery with Dr. Kim instead of Dr. Choi. All of them had a different “diagnosis” and all of them requested a deposit if I wanted to secure a specific surgery date. While the consultants didn’t pressure me, I felt pressure on myself to make the right decision. But how could I do that without meeting the doctors? Of course, I can ask as many questions as possible and do whatever I could online to feel comfortable choosing one, but I knew I would have “what-ifs” haunting me if I didn’t go in person first. I had gone in thinking I wanted incisional but 3 of the 4 doctors in person recommended non-incisional so it truly does help with meeting them. When scheduling the in-person consultations, I lined it up so that it was all in one day and made sure to buffer in time for commuting and if appointments ran late. Step 3 – In-Person Consultations: Pro-Tips: I built out an entire questionnaire and personal review and printed it out, one for each clinic. I knew I couldn’t only rely on my memory because I would start mixing up clinics and details so I wanted to be prepared. And, maybe it’s the millennial in me but I prefer hand-written notes rather than using my phone. I also wanted to be able to jot down my thoughts immediately after each consultation to capture my thoughts, feelings and then a more in depth review, again to make sure I was truly making an informed decision. I brought a mini tri-pod with me to record the sessions with my phone. I ended up not using it but feel free to do so if you want iron-clad details. I think visiting 4 was the right amount. I did this on a Saturday so office hours are shorter (10am – 5pm) rather than a weekday (10 – 7) and it took up the whole day. I didn’t even have time for a sit-down lunch but I had snacks that I munched on throughout the day. 10:00AM – Luho There was a mix-up and the in-house translator was not there. The Dr’s English was a lot more limited than his rehearsed videos on IG but it was enough for him to understand what I wanted and get my goals across. He was very kind and patient. There was a fancy photobooth to take current/before photos. Staff was very kind, office was very clean. The photo booklet of b/a looked very realistic and natural, which is what I wanted. I never felt rushed by the consultant or the doctor, but after about 15 minutes speaking with the Dr., another consultant came in and stood there so I knew it was another way of saying to hurry up. It did seem very busy in the front, this early in the morning. Surgery Recommendation: Non-Inciscional and epicanthoplasty, $2,000,000 won, after a 20% discount if I put in a deposit same day and wrote a Purse Forum review. 12:00PM – Link This office was not as busy as Luho, which I personally took that as a good thing. The in-person translator was very nice. I realized how much more helpful it is to have one in general, but there was slight skepticism if they were translating all of my thoughts or summarizing it and potentially missing out on what I would think are important details. Dr. Jung was pretty stoic, which isn’t a bad note as I knew that is how some Korean doctors are. I could tell he could comprehend what I was saying even though he responded back in Korean. He also gave specific feedback on the operation and how he’d go about my specific case that I never thought about before. Surgery Recommendation: Non-incisional and ptsosis correction, $2,750,000 won 2:00PM – Eyeho Another office that wasn’t as busy, which was expected, due this being a 1 doctor operation, specific to eyes. There is no in-house translator so the consultant used ChatGPT translator. I felt very comfortable with the Dr. His English was maybe the same level as Luho’s doctor but he was the most in-depth thus far, playing around with my eyes the most. He showed me before and afters and even found specific pictures that were specific to my situation, only operating on one eye. He called out how risky it is to do this, but that is his specialty. Not a lot of doctors do this because they fear mismatching but he was very confident and I believed him. At this point, I definitely wanted to go with Eyeho. I felt the most comfortable and confident with him. I decided I’d have to hire an in-person translator but his pricing was the lowest and I knew I would be able to afford this additional expense. Surgery Recommendation: Non-inciscional on one eye, $900,000 won ($10,000 won for an in-person consultation fee) 3:30PM – Wink Most of the staff was very fluent in English. I think Dr. Choi spoke better English than me. Emma, my consultant, was truly incredible. She was super kind and walked me through the types of surgeries done for eyes which added to my comfort that the entire staff knows what they’re doing. Within 5 minutes of talking to Dr. Choi, I knew he was going to be the one to do my surgery. He was very knowledgeable, patient and kind. He called out how I use my forehead muscles to try and “balance” my eyes and when he told me to relax it and redid his toothpick consultation, it made such a huge difference on how the eyelids would look like. He walked me through how he would work on my eyes specifically with different techniques. His recommendation was the most expensive but he explained why he recommended each surgery. I did not feel rushed at all even though it was basically “closing time.” Surgery Recommendation: Incisional, epicanthoplasty and mild ptosis correction. Please DM for final price :) Decision: Even before I reviewed the questionnaire and feedback form for each clinic, I knew I wanted to go with Wink. For the most part, all the doctors answered my questions but Dr. Choi went above and beyond to walk me through his reasoning behind the recommendations and his techniques. I also realized how important it is for me to speak the same language as the Doctor. While a translator would help, there could be things lost in translation that I may deem to be important but the translator may think otherwise and decide not to translate it. I knew I was paying a higher fee because of his reputation but also his English speaking skills, but I felt peace of mind knowing I can directly communicate with him. I also have a slight stutter, so I don’t know if that would throw a translator off but I knew Dr. Choi was listening to every word. It was also easier for me to continue asking questions and poke around further and I know I was able to do that more easily because he spoke English. I still did review my notes and questionnaire and feedback just to make sure I went over everything and felt very confident in my decision. By the time I finished Eyeho’s, I was truly ready to choose them but Dr. Choi changed my mind almost instantaneously. Step 4 – Deposit and Preparation for Surgery Deposit: I paid the 10% deposit on Wise and secured my surgery date. There are other apps that also send wired payments with less fees (e.g. Instarem) but Wise seemed to be the most legitimate. I was annoyed with their lower conversion rate but the money was sent instantaneously. I immediately deactivated my account with them as soon as payment was confirmed from both Wink and my bank account. During the time period between my in-person consultations and my surgery date, I would send a list of questions and Emma would answer it, line by line. I was worried that once I put in the deposit, I would be ignored but nope, as soon as the offices were open, my questions were answered. Lodging: I decided to book an AirBnB instead of a hotel. My priority was to have my own kitchen so that I could cook my own food for a couple of days. I chose an AirBnB that was a 15 minute walk from Wink. What I brought from home: uncooked rice grains, low-sodium chicken broth, jujube dates, goji berries, collagen powder, berry superfood smoothie pouches, deli container Tupperwares, SINECCH arnica pills, Vitamin C pills, micellar water, reusable face cotton pad, extra Q-tips, lightweight UV protection sunglasses, bucket hat, tops that were button-ups or had a wide neck opening, disposable shower caps, face shields for the shower* What I bought in Korea: chicken breast, ginger, apples, eggs, green onions, bag of ice*, clear-framed glasses** * = didn’t end up using ** = this wasn’t obvious to me because I do not wear glasses but having clear framed glasses was definitely useful at night/indoors if you are self-conscious of your bruises/stitches and also added protection from dust, etc. What I cooked: Chicken and ginger porridge: recipe based off of https://seonkyounglongest.com/chicken-porridge/ (did not add any salt and I added lots more ginger pieces in to eat). Jujube tea: recipe based off of https://www.instagram.com/reel/DIElovYPq5y/?igsh=MWtuaHRvaWpjejRpYg== Hard boiled eggs Step 5 – Day of Surgery I traveled to Korea alone to do my surgery. It was scheduled for 2:30PM. Three surgeries are scheduled every day (10AM, 12PM, 2:30PM) and while I initially wanted the morning one just so I can get it over with and the Dr. wouldn’t be tired by the last surgery, I actually liked that I was the last. There were less people in the clinic and it gave me time to make sure everything was ready for post-surgery. Honestly, I had 0 nerves on the day of my surgery. I was honestly scared at the fact that I wasn’t scared lol. I truly think the in-person consultation helped a ton because I had full confidence in Dr. Choi. This would be my second cosmetic procedure but the first time under local anesthesia. I fasted for essentially 14 hours, with the exception of one sip of water at 7AM. I made sure all the food was cooked and the dishware needed was out on the counter. I stacked my pillows high enough so that I would sleep essentially at a 75 degree angle. I had everything placed exactly where it needed to be so in case, God forbid, I came back blind, I knew where everything was. I also made sure to document my own “before” photos and videos. I highly recommend documenting your own journey so you can track the progress yourself. I wore a sleeveless button up shirt, a sports bra with a clasp, elastic waistband shorts, clean underwear that I was okay with throwing away in case of any accidents and slip on sneakers. I walked 15 minutes to Wink and got there around 1:45PM and was ready to come out brand new! I picked up the medication from the pharmacy downstairs, which included antibiotics, anti-bacterial cream, eye drop ointment and eye drops (~$35USD). I also brought 4 pumpkin juice pouches (~$6 USD). The recovery kit that Wink provided included an eye mask (I asked for a second one but didn’t really need it, one is enough), gauze pads (they give extra if you ask), double-ended q-tips (they do not give extra so pack extra yourself), one pouch of pumpkin juice and recovery instructions. I went back upstairs and was taken inside to my recovery room and changed my clothes to the clothes provided. I double cleansed my face, gargled mouthwash and was whisked away to take before pictures. I then sat down with a staff member to read the risks and potential complications. This is when I started to get nervous as there were some complications that I was not aware of previously. After I signed the documents, Emma dropped by and talking to her really helped ease my concerns. I was alone for this surgery so her presence was very comforting. I met with Dr. Choi one last time to go over my goals, he assured me the end result would be natural and not dramatic, and then I was whisked away to the surgery room. There were about 3 nurses that I counted before I was strapped in. My entire head was covered so that only my eyes and nose were showing. The only time a nurse spoke to me in English was when she told me she was going to sanitize my face; everything else was in Korean. I heard another mans voice and got scared it was a ghost doctor lol so I opened my eyes but saw Dr. Choi right above me, so I closed my asymmetrical eyes one last time and I was hit with the anesthesia. It felt like I took acid, everything was super trippy – like I was seeing colors and shapes and abstract images in my mind. Once the anesthesia wore off, I could hear voices and felt tugging and pulling on my eyes, but nothing painful. The nurse would press on the left side of my chest occasionally. I opened my eyes maybe 3 or 4 times for Dr. Choi and eventually I heard “Great job [name]!” and that was the last I saw of Dr. Choi. I barely felt any pain, honestly. It was probably a 2 out of 10 but it was more so discomfort. I could feel the tightness around my eyes but it wasn’t painful. When I first opened my eyes, it barely opened halfway, but it eventually widened out. For the rest of the week, I made sure to not furrow my eyebrows or bulge my eyes and moved my neck up if I had to look up rather than just using my eyes to look up. Anyway, I laid there for a bit (I have no idea how long, my perception of time was thrown off) while the nurses unhooked my IV. I think they put on an ice mask on my eyes, I forgot. They helped me out of my chair and walked me to the recovery room. I was slightly woozy and had a bit of blurry vision. The first time I saw myself in a mirror was a bit of a jumpscare lol. The eyelids were definitely prominent, swollen and bruised up with some dried blood around my eyes. I took my time to change back into my clothes, and the longer I was up, the more the wooziness wore off. The last photo I took was at 3:05PM and when I checked my phone again afterwards, it was 5:30PM. I initially said I was going to take an Uber back but I felt completely fine so I put on my sunglasses and bucket hat and walked home. I did not drink any water until I got back to my Airbnb. When I got back, I waited for maybe about another 5 minutes and finally drank a sip of water to check if I would get nauseous. I didn’t feel it, so I drank more water, heated up my porridge and tea, and documented my results. I slept for a couple hours upright and by the time I was awake, it was morning back home so I was able to Facetime friends. Post Surgery, Day 1 – 7 I ate porridge, hard boiled eggs, jujube tea and the berry smoothies for every meal for 3 days. I iced my eyes 10 minutes every hour on the hour. I slept upright at a 75 degree angle all week long. On average, I walked 15K steps a day, usually doing my walks in the early morning or at night, avoiding the insane heat during the day. I didn’t really experience dry eyes but I would use the drops to sort of “wash” my eyes because the ointments and creams would get on my lashes and would blur my vision a bit. I literally only sneezed once during the week before I got my stitches removed (IDK how) and I avoided blowing my nose. You cannot get water on the stitches so I had to be very careful. For my showers, I cut a hole in a disposable shower cap and put it over my face and under my chin to cover my eyes. That pretty much did the trick so I didn’t really need the face shields I bought. For washing my face, I just soaked my cotton pad with micellar water and gently swiped it over my face for the week. I avoided pulling on the skin because I would feel the epicanthoplasty stitches. Absolutely no water got on my face for 6 days. I had my first follow up 3 days later, which was pretty quick. The nurse cleaned up my stitches and reapplied the ointment, followed by a 20 minute red light therapy session. 6 days later, I went back for the second and final follow up. I did a 20 minute right light therapy session and then got my stitches removed. Honestly, that was more painful than the surgery itself. It was the epicanthoplasty stitches that hurt the most. Idk if it’s because they were smaller and/or right in the corner of my eyes but it was like tiny needle stabs that were digging into my eye. I was literally almost in tears by the end of it. I met with Dr. Choi for 5 minutes and he said it was looking really good and gave me post care instructions. After that, I took the after pictures and had to write my Google review in person. I said my goodbyes and voila, that’s it! I went downstairs to buy the scar cream they recommended ($45USD). I use my own NewGel+ with SPF in the morning and use their Dermatix cream at night. In Progress Results: For the first week post surgery, I was loving the results and truly was so happy with my decision to do this. I do not know if me watching my salt intake for the first couple of days or the arnica and Vitamin C pills helped with anything, but the swelling would go down significantly every day. I loved waking up every morning to see how my eyes were settling. Seeing both eyes with double eyelids just makes me so giddy. I am now on Day 16 and I am in the “trust the process” phase. The eyes are healing at different rates so it looks like two different eye shapes to me, which is making me freak out a bit, ngl. You can see some of the epicanthoplasty scarring too. The folds look different for each eye and idk if I’m being paranoid, but I think it makes my asymmetry even more noticeable than before. I reached out to Emma with pictures but she assured me this is not the final result and to continue applying scar cream. This was also discussed in the consent forms so I was well aware that this was phase was going to happen. I am doing my best to stay positive because of how much I loved my results initially, so I’m just praying it corrects itself and settles in quickly and properly. My vision was a little blurry for the past 2 weeks and I attributed it to not being able to wash my eyes with soap for 14 days, but I think my vision is getting back to normal. I have been straining my eyes so that I can see clearly which I think is giving me headaches by the end of a work day. If I bulge out my eyes, I can still feel the tightness and if I furrow my brows, I can feel a slight pinch with the epicanthoplasty. FYI, I have been wearing blue-light glasses at work and I don’t think anyone has noticed (if they did, they haven’t said anything). My Asian friends can tell the difference and my non-Asian friends can tell now that I’ve shown them a side by side comparison. When I put on the glasses though, they definitely can’t tell. For now, I am not letting my barely healed results dictate my overall experience rating. Working through everything with Wink has been pretty seamless, so in that sense, I am glad I chose them. I will wait until my 6 month progress to give a full-encompassing rating. If you made it all the way to the end, thank you so much! It has been therapeutic writing this all out and I hope this helps someone who is on the same journey 😊 submitted by /u/newsetofeyez to r/SeoulPlasticSurgery [link] [comments]

I am 27 years old, make $82,000, live in NYC , work as a PM at a nonprofit , and am trying to spend less than last month!
Section One: Assets and Debt Retirement Balance (and how you got there): $13,500 in my 401k at my previous job, $5,400 in my 403b at my current job. I was not at my last job long enough for match (laid off after a year) but my current company offers 6% contribution and 50% match up to 3% after 6 months – so I contribute 6%, they contribute 9%, it’s 15%/paycheck but they deposit their contributions quarterly Equity if you're a homeowner (and how much you put down and how you accumulated that payment): I am not Savings account balance: $38,000 which is going to go down very soon as my sister and I are planning a bucket list New Zealand trip next year Checking account balance: $10,100 in my main checking account, $7,000 in an account I really need to get around to closing – opened it because my usual bank didn’t exist in my college and grad school cities Credit card debt (and how you accumulated it): None, paid off each month Student loan debt (for what degree): None. I have a bachelor’s and a masters, both from SUNY schools with in-state tuition, paid for with a combination of my parents and tuition scholarships Anything else that's applicable to you: I nominally combine finances with my twin/roommate (/u/cambrianshrimp), who makes $72k/year IF YOU COMBINE FINANCES WITH A S/O PLEASE INCLUDE ALL OF THEIR ASSETS / DEBT AS WELL Section Two: Income Income Progression: I've been working in my field for 4 years, my starting salary was $17/hour as an intern at a public transit agency. I was full-time summer 2021, part-time through the second year of my Masters of Urban Planning program, and started full-time in a project coordinator position after I graduated in May 2022. I was paid $62,000 a year, primarily did GIS and grant writing, and ended up getting poached by a recruiter to a full remote position paying $100,000 + 10% base bonus. The company reorganized their electric vehicles unit to be much smaller after a year and I was laid off in March 2024. Although the layoff wasn’t effective until June 2024, I saw the writing on the wall and started applying and interviewing in January 2024 and secured my current position about 3 weeks after learning I was being laid off. Still fully remote, but with a base of $80,000 which was raised to $82,000 in a COLA. We also receive $100/month in a tech stipend. I am going to discuss promotion to the next title with my boss at the end of our fiscal year, because 1) I qualify due to my education and experience 2) I have been slowly taking over a project from someone with that title, which includes responsibilities (such as client invoicing and reporting) which are not expected at my PM level. Main Job Monthly Take Home: $4,329 including my mentioned remote work tech stipend Section Three: Expenses Please include ALL expenses relevant to you. Here's a good place to get started: Rent / Mortgage / HOA fees (please specify how you split it if living with a partner): $1900, which is my share of the rent with my sister – this is for the larger bedroom with en suite bathroom. My sister pays $1500 Renters / home insurance: $120? I pay this annually in July and can’t remember super well Savings contribution: I auto contribute 10%/paycheck and move more over at the end of the month Donations: $18 to Middle Eastern Children’s Alliance, $10 to the shelter where we got our family dog, $10 to the Homestuck Beyond Canon Patreon. Once a month I do a food distribution for City Harvest which is about 4 hours long. I also do a Lasagna Love dropoff once a month. Electric: varies but my share will probably be around 30/month in the summer – this is after subtracting my sister’s half of the wifi Wifi/Cable/Landline: $60/month Cellphone: Still on parents’ plan Subscriptions: $108 annually for ArcGIS personal license, $99 annually for ZipCar, $60 annually for Costco, $11.99/month for Spotify. My parents have every streaming service under the sun so I either mooch or pirate. Gym membership: None! Gym in building with no amenity fee Pet expenses: $26/month for my sweet kitty’s insurance Health insurance: premium is fully covered by my job Regular therapy: Disclaimer I do not pay for this. My wonderful therapist does not take insurance, my parents cover the $200/session upfront and then I pay them back the 60% I get reimbursed from OON benefits by insurance. They cover the difference. IF YOU COMBINE INCOME WITH A S/O PLEASE INCLUDE ALL OF THEIR EXPENSES AS WELL Sunday 6/1 Very slow and low-spend day today after an extremely expensive month of May. Keeping this diary to keep an eye on my spending at least at the start of this month. I was supposed to have a date at 3 pm but we canceled because she is going to the Battle of the Bands at Dave’s Lesbian Bar and I have zero interest in schlepping to Astoria. Instead I have vacuumed my entire house, gone to the gym, showered, and set up my June tab in my budget spreadsheet. I am procrastinating cleaning my bathroom so decide to start a Money Diary. My sister purchased ingredients and made pupusas for dinner, so I have those after catching up on my shows (Leverage: Redemption and Poker Face) while painting my nails for the first week of Pride Month. I spend $1.99 on a new level pack of my cell phone game because I have been making a concentrated effort to actually be doing things on my phone instead of infinite scrolling. I also see some articles about the new COVID variant and pick up a pack of Readimasks (no metal in them) for an MRI I have coming up. Nothing serious, participating in a clinical research trial ($44.56 after shipping). Daily total: $46.55 Monday 6/2 Wake up fairly late and immediately feed my screaming goblin of a cat, who I talked about roughly a year ago in a pet ownership money diary. Make myself bacon egg and cheese on a bagel, do my games (Connections, Wordle, Crosswordle, the NYT crossword, and the mini – in that order), and get started on work for the day. I have one morning meeting and then go to the building gym during my lunch and take a quick shower before going back to work. Most of my job is writing reports for clients, but as I mentioned I’ve been taking on more traditional “project management tasks” like invoicing and progress reports. Today is a lot of misc tasks like replying to emails and chasing subcontractors down for project updates in addition to my usual writing and putting stuff through our models. Normally I cook on Mondays because my sister tutors a kid in math after work, but we have so many leftover pupusas that there’s no need this week. I always host a pride party and goody bags are my signature party hosting thing, so I go online to look at inspo. There’s way less corporate pride stuff this year but I end up buying the bags themselves and temporary tattoos from Big Dot of Happiness ($42.42). I’ll get the candy and mini shot bottles later. After work I watch some Star Trek (the original series, watching for the first time at my sister’s insistence) and enjoy a Shirley Temple. Daily Total: $42.42 Tuesday 6/3 My sister is work from home today! We have breakfast together and then both get started on our work days. I go to the gym during lunch and then walk to the pharmacy and get 2 prescriptions and some store brand Metamucil ($63.89, girl’s gotta stay regular). Confirm my date for tonight, which is the one rescheduled from Sunday. It’s a bit on the earlier side but we talk a while so I’m starving by the time we part ways. I go to an Italian restaurant near the date spot that I’ve been to before and spend $44.46 after tip on a personal pizza (that I end up bringing home half of) and a cocktail. I liked the person platonically but don’t think I would want to go on a date with them again. Daily Total: $108.35 Wednesday 6/4 The usual. Wake up, feed cat, check emails, do word games, do work. A lot of tedious invoicing tasks for the project I’ve mentioned. I have therapy Wednesdays at lunch and I spend a lot of it venting about my best friend’s horrible boyfriend who I hate, and her behavior related to him. Things have gotten so bad that over the weekend I set a boundary with her that I do not want to be expected to spend time with or hear about him, and I have to say the latter has made my life noticeably more peaceful. I’m seeing her tonight to watch the mayoral debate and I spend $6.69 on a can of lychees because I asked her what drink ingredients she wants me to bring and she requested lychee martinis – I already have vodka and vermouth so I just needed the lychee juice. Have an extremely horrible meeting which goes over time AND I discover apparently neither the project lead nor the accounting person assigned to the project actually know what has been invoiced or paid for. For dinner my sister gets us takeout sushi, instead of splitting we usually just alternate paying for stuff so I technically don’t pay for this although I will be paying next time we get takeout. Watching the mayoral debate is great! It’s truly heartening to watch Cuomo get dogpiled, though I still worry about him being carried to the mayoralty via name recognition. I also have a much better idea of who I’ll be ranking after the debate. Daily Total: $6.69 Thursday 6/5 Not much to money diary. This was a zero spend day, my dad picked up me and the cat and drove us to my parents’ house during my lunch break. At the end of the work day I float around in the pool on my giant pool float. I get to the season 2 premiere of Star Trek the original series and spend much of my night after that reading fanfiction. Daily Total: $0 Friday 6/6 My sister came up last night after work! We go to the farmer’s market right when it opens and I spent $14 on a four pack of sour cherry cider and $44 on a bottle of limoncello as a hostess gift and a bottle of apple whiskey for me. My sister buys us food at our favorite stand. We go home and I spend about an hour floating around in the pool, trying to avoid a neighbor’s three year old who is trying to use a pool noodle to fish my float to him. I actually offer to share (there’s room for two on the float!) but apparently that is not satisfactory. Toddlers, man. Another short entry because my day after the pool is spent working, going to the basement gym, and then watching Star Trek and reading fanfiction. Daily Total: $58 Saturday 6/7 I was supposed to go to a garden party today, but the drive is two hours each way and I know the host doesn’t have a rain contingency plan. I send her my apologies and instead bring my sister to a local rock and mineral fair, where I buy a bismuth in honor of pride month ($15). We get absolutely poured on at the fair, but there’s a bit more shopping I want to do now that I’m not driving four hours today. I go to TJ Maxx for some discount skincare ($18.35) and the liquor store to replenish my vodka that was finished on Wednesday ($35.67). I was hoping to also get the shot bottles for my goodie bags, but the selection is kind of terrible. More Star Trek and more fanfiction to round out my evening, and I drink one of my ciders from the farmer’s market Daily Total: $69.02 Sunday 6/8 Ugh sorry this MD has totally fallen off. I should have predicted that I just wasn’t going to keep good track of my daily activities once I went home. But in fairness, I don’t do much when I go home. I spend the morning today hanging out with my family, and then my dad drives me, my sister, and the cat back to our apartment. The drive is as smooth as any commute back to the city on a Sunday in the summer can be and I unpack before I call with a college friend for about two hours. After our call I go to the gym, shower, and watch the new Poker Face while I paint my nails. Nail art is a weekly ritual for me and I decide to split the difference between my plan of weekly themed pride nails and my desire to test out my new magnetic polish, and use a light pink magnetic polish as a base for a nominally trans flag themed nail art. I also start packing up the goody bags, which came while I was visiting home, and wrap the hostess gift for my friend. My sister takes a nap and when she wakes up we go to dinner at a local Indian restaurant we’ve been going to since we were kids ($42.90 for my share of a drink each and a meal with plenty of leftovers). My twin stops off at the grocery store on her way home because she’s been on a huge kick of making lemonade, so I have lemonade and grenadine while I watch, you guessed it, two more episodes of Star Trek. I finish up this Money Diary before I lock into some Star Trek fic recs from my sister. Daily Total: $42.90 At the end of each day please tally up your daily expenses. Then at the end of your diary please tally up all expenses in the following categories: Food + Drink: $187.72 Fun / Entertainment: $15 (I counted the bismuth in here idk) Home + Health: $63.89 Clothes + Beauty: $18.35 Transport: Nothing because I was out of town much of the week, but I do have my OMNY set to auto-add $20 when I fall below $10 Lastly, reflect on your diary! How do you feel about your spending? Was this a normal week for you? Has this inspired you to make changes or has it given you a “wow I’m doing pretty good” confidence boost? Is there anything you’re actively working on? No need to answer any or all these questions but just use this space to write any thoughts you have! This was a bit lower than a typical week, presumably because I was visiting my parents. I definitely do a lot of my entertainment/dining out spending from May to November and am something of a hermit the rest of the year – I don’t care to be out and about in the cold. I’ve also been so deeply locked into watching Star Trek that it has probably slightly impacted my desire to make plans but as you can see, I did dine out twice in a week. The split with my sister was also fairly typical, as for most things we do tend to just switch off paying and assume it will even out in the end. The only exception is going out to eat, as I am more likely to order a drink than she is so I just put my card down and she pays me what she owes me. Although I’m not in a romantic relationship with anyone, I definitely benefit financially from being a household unit with my sister. This week was also light on grocery spending between leaving early and the vegetable pickup. I frequently keep breakfast ingredients on hand but shop dinner one meal at a time, which is probably not the most efficient in terms of spending but does give me a lot of flexibility, which is especially nice in the summer when I don’t know what I’m getting for veggie pickup til the day before. I go to Costco once a month and will be due for that trip soon. submitted by /u/shoshana20 to r/MoneyDiariesACTIVE [link] [comments]

June: Creative Sub Challenge
The challenge promt for June is: Lets make leporellos! A leporello is an Italian paper craft, they are little booklet made by folded paper in accordion shapes. I haven’t found much information in English for you guys, they are somewhat similar to a zine (a DIY mini magazine, zine for inspo) and I have found similar examples from origami as well. There are different methods of folding that produce a variety of shapes, examples: 30 page accordion journal, Mini Zine, cascading star book, simple accordion with cut-outs, triangle origami with cover Random ideas for the little books: Fill the pages with your art like a sketch book, poetry, make a tiny recipe book with seasonal june ingredients, try different mediums each page, make a collection of all of your colours, record your artist dates, grattage, summer/winter bucket list, collect quotes, rate things…. You can use whatever paper fits your project best (I practiced first with inexpensive printer paper). Use the flair "I did the sub challenge!". Have fun! submitted by /u/Cerulean-Moon to r/innervoice [link] [comments]

Bucket List 2025 is out!! As you can see, she doesn’t have a clue what a bucket list really is. And she’s challenged all you mamas out there to “feel free” to use her inspo. She’d love you to tag her so she can see. And she needs to make all her videos without her Invisalign!

Summer bucketlist
Hi gals! As part of my journey to heal my inner child or whatever, last summer I made a good ol summer bucket list like my friends and I always did when we were kids. It was honestly so much fun and it made me do so much over the summer instead of just go to work and watch tv. I tried a lot of new things too. I want to do it again but need more inspo for ideas of things to put on it. Some examples of what I did last year: swim in the ocean, jump off a rope swing into water, try a new recipe, go to a farmers market, learn how to play pickleball, etc. What’s your favorite thing to do in the summer now or when you were a kid? submitted by /u/iceprincess444 to r/TheGirlSurvivalGuide [link] [comments]

How do I take this bucket list trip?
I have stage 4 cancer. I'm not dying yet, but the treatment I was on stopped working, and now I am trying other treatments. Having said all that, my family and I (husband, and 3 kids -9,10,17), may not get a lot more time to travel all the places we wanted to see before I'm gone. I have never been to Europe, and I've always dreamed of visiting London, Paris, Berlin, and Rome (or Venice or Tuscany), and eating my way through the continent! I am wondering if there is a way to visit all those places with 5 people in 2-3 weeks. Train? River Cruise? What's the best way to get around? Is there a way to get help planning this kind of trip? Places to eat? Basically everything? We are looking at a budget of $35,000 ($6k per person). Edit: to answer a few questions I am from the US (Denver, CO). The soonest we'd want to go is probably the fall. My kids get a week off in October. But if we should try and do next summer, that would give us even more time to plan. Edit 2: you guys are so amazing! You've given me the confidence to know we CAN make this trip, even if the thought of planning it is quite overwhelming! I'm the kind of person who usually does all inclusive because I don't like to have to figure out every detail! I'll likely take the suggestion of many of you to reach out to a travel agent and see what they suggest. Seems to be the smart move! Edit: I got more messages and comments overnight than I have ever gotten before! Thank you all. It will take me a while to sift through. But this is why I love Reddit! When someone needs help, you all show up! Edit: a lot of you have been saying to take the trip sooner. Unfortunately, I'm currently getting chemo every 3 weeks until the end of April, which means I feel pretty crappy 2 weeks out of the month. So I can't plan the trip until I know how I'm going to feel when my chemo is done. I really want to hold out until October so it won't be so hot, and I'll know where I'm at as far as how I'm feeling. I know it's a risk that I won't be well enough. If things get to that point, I'll probably cash in my 401k and just go! submitted by /u/smartypants333 to r/travel [link] [comments]

Swam the English Channel a couple of weeks ago. 12 hours, 20 minutes. Avg water temp 63-64* F. A bucket list swim that I really enjoyed
This was my eight ratified marathon swim and the second of my “Triple Crown” swims (I did Catalina last summer) I feel like the English Channel is such a “thing” in this sport that I wanted to post some thoughts and offer to answer any questions to anyone training for it/curious about it. I signed up to do this swim in 2022 and got a first positions for September 2024. For those who are unfamiliar, the Channel books in a “position” system where you are given a window of time for your swim and then given a priority in that window. As weather allows, your position gets its turn in the window to go swim. I got to Dover for the start of my window and ended up having to sit around for about a week due to bad weather. After quite a bit of waiting we ended up with a beautiful day. Some rough waters at the very beginning and again from hours 7-9ish, but for the most part it was fairly smooth: I ended up doing just over 25 miles of swimming. The last push into France took forever because of strong currents, but I was able to maintain a steady pace/stroke count for the entire swim and just had to be patient in closing out the last mile or two. Overall, I felt very well prepared for the swim and loved the experience. I really just tried to go out there and be present, enjoy the moment, and be thankful for the opportunity. In terms of difficulty, I would say Catalina was a much harder swim for me despite being slightly shorter and taking me about an hour less time to complete. submitted by /u/GatorAndrew to r/OpenWaterSwimming [link] [comments]

What’s your next travel plan that you’re excited about? Let’s add some things to our adventure list.
I am looking forward to seeing the Auroras in Iceland this winter with my college roommate. This will be our first international trip together and I’m looking forward to feeling young and carefree again. That’s not until December so would like to take inspo from y’all’s plans for the summer. Also, I’m not a fan of the term bucket list for some reason - so adventurous list it is! submitted by /u/National_Pineapple to r/AskWomenOver30 [link] [comments]

VOTING THREAD: The Modellies Odyssey: Movie Magic Award Competition Show and GaME 2001 (MOMMACSG2001): The SPLASH Challenge
BEAUTIFUL NEW BANNER MMM Lovely This week our Rising Stars were subjected to the Splash Challenge: https://preview.redd.it/1hq8ige4lc1a1.jpg?width=550&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0eeeef34376a72361d9dfa7226ec4ecc0e36a6c0 In the 80s, a very lazy and corny screenwriter wrote SPLASH. His inspiration? The idiom “fish out of water.” This genius performed high level deconstructionist magic and the result was a film about a mermaid being awkward and unusual on land around Tom Hanks. Get it? She’s a “fish out of water” in the literal AND metaphorical sense. The working title was probably “Mermaid Out of Water.” That’s what it takes to get an Academy Award nomination for best screenplay. Can you hack it? Unfortunately your next movie has been written by someone who can “hack” it and their favorite movie is SPLASH. They want to pull the same shit and they’ve cast you as their star! Your movie is inspired by an idiom in the literal and metaphorical sense. BIG REMINDER! THIS COMPETITION HAS PRIVATE VOTING ONLY JUST LIKE THE ACADEMY AWARDS. COMMENTS ARE ENCOURAGED AND STATING WHETHER YOU LIKE OR DISLIKE SOMETHING IS FINE, JUST DON’T SAY TOO MUCH TO GIVE THINGS AWAY! Valerie Keller in HOUSEWIVES OF HOLLYWOOD: THE LAST STRAW Idiom: "the straw that breaks/broke the camel's back" (the last in a series of bad things that happen to make some very upset angry, etc.) This film is about the making of a Real Housewivesque reality tv show. Valerie stars as Dana Gibbons, a former model who's in the middle of a divorce with a Hollywood B-list actor. She along with her 5 costars are on the annual girls trip and this time the destination is Morocco. Dana is the only Millennial in the cast of Gen X and Baby Boomers in addition to being the newest costar on the show. Dana has also been the latest target of the mean girl clique on the show. The producers have also been exploiting Dana's current state for drama as they know she isn't afraid to be confrontational or messy when provoked repeatedly. This still is from after the group has just gone camel riding in the desert and they've been ignoring her all morning because on the previous night where they were doing a game night theme she had gotten into an argument with the Richardson sisters who were making her feel left out by icing her out. Finally fed up with their mean girl antics she said to one of them after they had been calling her trailer park and a ho, "Well at least I'm not doing crystal meth in the bathroom all night, bitch!" The sisters then procceeded to scream and hollar at her to shut up and one of them screamed, "you're a slut pig!" before Dana stormed off in tears. In the present moment of the film, Dana has gone up the hill to see a better view and while she's doing that the girls have ditched her thus leaving her to walk alone back with the camels. Dana becomes upset when she sees that they're gone but is keeping her head held up high as she walks the camels back to their home. After several slights she is ready to confront and not back down again once she heads back to the hotel for the final showdown of the trip as this was the straw that has broken the camel's back. INSPO 1: The producer of the film is inspired by UnReal's Rachel who manipulates the stars of the show for ratings. Dana is the current target of the producer as they know she's good for explosive drama INSPO 2: This gif is of the RHONY in the Moroccan desert riding camels. This is what the group of women in the film are doing before they abandon Dana with camels. INSPO 3: Brandi Glanville is the inspiration for Dana, the central character in the film about the production of a reality television show about mostly wealthy and some middle class women Gavid Dandy in SON OF A GUN Idiom: "son of a gun" (to address someone in an affectionate way) "Son of a gun" a story of a kid who got possessed by the ghost of a gunman who made him go on a candy-stealing spree. Didier and his team of supernatural hunter was tasked to capture the kid alive and exorcise the ghost . After a long chase, Didier - against his better judgement - falls in love with the boy's mom. Will he succeed in capturing the boy and the ghost possessed him? Will he get the fair mother's kiss in the end? Find out soon in theatre near you. Jenna Sais Quoi in OUT OF THIS WORLD Idiom: "out of this world" (extremely good or impressive) Coming 2025, “Out of This World,” directed by Ron Howard hits theaters, starring none other than Jenna Sais Quoi. Jenna stars as Eris, a down on her luck movie star who finds a resurgence of fame in the unlikeliest way with her new freshly crash-landed friend, Buddy. But, is he more than just a Buddy? Is he her ticket back to fame or the love of her life? Either way, their adventure will be... sly wink... Out of This World. Kaylene Nova in FEELIN' BLUE Idiom: "I'm feeling blue" (feeling down or unhappy in response to grief, discouragement, or disappointment) Kaylene Nova stars in Feelin' Blue, inspired by Pinocchio also Ella Enchanted also, Blue Man Group?? ...... Whittelle was cursed at a Blue Man's group concert. Every time something makes her sad, her face turns blue. She has never been able to hide her emotions, even when it's for the best. Whittelle has found out that to remove the curse, she must go to the magical land of Karnia to find the Blue Man Group and they must be the ones to remove the curse. Unfortunantly the hot evil Queen who has been forcing her Blue Man Group slaves to put this curse on people do NOT want it to be removed and will do anything to stop Whitelle. Rotten Grapes gave this sad, exciting and dare I say sexy movie 210% so basically YOU will be the sad one if you don't see it. Starly Von Hönchkrow in THE WHITE ROSE Idiom: "the rose that grew from concrete" (a person who achieved greatness even though they came from a place not so great) Inspired by the idiom "the rose that grew from concrete", The White Rose tells the story of an underfunded greenhouse, its wonderful and diverse plant life abandoned to wither and die... until one day the White Rose deigns to grace the other plants with her supreme presence. Join us on this satirical journey as the White Rose uses nothing more than her beauty and privilege to restore funding to the greenhouse and take sole credit for the other plants like... just existing and growing and stuff. Sandra Bullock gives it two thumbs up, saying: "The Blind Side could never!" (...but we still don't know if she actually knows what satire means). Charlie Miller in ALL BARK AND NO BITE Idiom: "all bark and no bite" (full of big talk but lacking action, power, or substance; pretentious.) A coming of age romantic tale featuring the fearless, mean mugging Lassie and her blood thirsty Rottweiler named Mordecai. They spend their days walking aimlessly among the prairie fields, looking for trouble, loitering, insulting, barking, and wishing a bitch would. Then one day, a boy and his cat finally take her up on her offer… Granola Von Nostren in A MAN'S MAN Idiom: "a man's man" (a man noted or admired for traditionally masculine interests and activities.) Due to a poor contractual decision (THANKS GRETA GARBO YOU BITCH), screen queen Granola Von Nostren finds herself forced into a three part film series shot entirely in black and white. For the first of these movies, Granola stars in “A Man’s Man,” a much more thrilling re-imagining of the 1929 Greta Garbo film by the same name about Peggy, a woman who becomes romantically entangled with multiple men in her quest for Hollywood stardom. Peggy descends into the darkest depths of “a man’s man,” an idiom illustrating her corruption by the “traditionally masculine activities” of adultery, drinking cognac by fancy pianos and shooting her rivals with shiny guns. Will she make it big by playing a man’s game in the man’s world of 1929 Hollywood? Watch and see… INSPO Mr Grey in EYE TO EYE Idiom: "see eye to eye" (to agree fully with someone) The female protagonist has a habit of taking tension out of every situation by joking around. The male protagonist is her friend who worries too much. They both want to get along, but they each make the other's work more difficult. After several stressful days together, the two of them come to a realization - the key to their long-time conflict may just be in the other person's eyes. Severin Strange in THE F^CK-IT LIST Idiom: "bucket list" (a list of the things that a person would like to do or achieve before they die) A play on "bucket list" and adapted from the same-named OFF-BROADWAY HIT, The F^ck-It List is the must-see musical experience this Holiday season. With original compositions by Hans Zimmerman and lyrical stylings of Kardi B, follow the tale of Amanda Hump who has just been fired from the job she has given up the last 15 years of her life for. Realizing how much time she has wasted and life she has missed, she begins checking her wildest fantasies off her list. But when she meets that special someone along the way, will she stop filling up her bucket in exchange for true love? Dorothea St. Ophelia in BURSTING BURBUJA'S BUBBLE Idiom: "burst your bubble" (the sudden end of a very happy or successful period) The talented and magnetic Dorothea St. Ophelia plays Burbuja, a professional bubble blower with big dreams and even bigger bubbles. Beaming Beautiful Burbuja moves to New York City and takes to the streets to impress the masses. In front of the biggest crowd Burbuja has ever seen, she made the fatal mistake of overloading her water with too much detergent, and before she can make the world's largest bubble, it burst. The streets of NYC scoffed while Burbuja sobbed. Will Burbuja ever gain the trust and confidence of the New York streets ever again? Is the bubble a metaphor for white privelege? Streaming on televisions near you on the first Saturday in June, 2023, this is "Bursting Burbuja's Bubble." Judd Hampton in IT'S A SMALL WORLD AND I'M A BIG MAN Idiom: "it's a small world" (meeting someone not expected to be at a certain place) In "It's A Small World and I'm A Big Man" upcomer Judd Hampton plays Judd, an above average height man in a smaller than average sized planet. One day, after a run-in at the grocery store with his friend's brother's football coach, Judd smiles to himself and thinks "It's a small world...but how small?" Join Judd through his courageous self and geographical discoveries about just how small the world is, and just how large Judd is. Written by: Judd Hampton Starring: Judd Hampton Directed by: Judd Hampton Hope Summers in A STORM IN A TEACUP Idiom: "a storm in a teacup" (a big fuss about a small problem) Holly is a charming American housewife with a loving husband and son in a scenic home along a beautiful cul-de-sac. Her neighbors are friendly, her friends are loyal, and her pet cat is affectionate. But under that smile she lets things simmer. Small things. Her husband didn’t take out the trash? Noted. Her son didn’t finish his plate? Noted. Her neighbor’s car alarm went off at night? All noted. It never comes to a boil as she knows to keep a lid on it…until the time is right. One day, she invites everyone for tea. Friends, family, neighbors. She serves each of her unsuspecting guests with a scrumptious scented tea displayed in dainty, innocuous porcelain cups. “I brewed it myself” she says as they sip in etiquette. And one by one they lose vision, dizzyingly falling off the chairs and onto the floor. Defenseless. But still conscious. Wondering what is going on and unable to cry for help. And then Holly picks up a pair of garden shears and approaches… VOTING ENDS NOVEMBER 25 AT 9:00 PM PST! NSV: I went tubing on the river!
I wanted to write this to give y'all some inspo because I was, 3 years ago, almost bedbound, in excruciating back pain and had a knee that would no longer support me, and to say to anyone that is using age as an excuse not to change that you are cheating yourself out of life, you just are. I was. Age is just a number, that's all it is. I love y'all, you deserve to live life to the fullest and you also deserve not to wait almost a half a century like I did to find that out. TD;LR: (long) achieved a goal, learned some things, experienced gratitude, gained more motivation, link to a good reasonably priced knee brace. A little backstory: the last time I went tubing (literally you ride a big inner-tube with handles down the river, there are some small rapids but never more than a class 2) was in girl scout camp when I was 13 years old. That was the last time I really felt small enough to do it. It's been a dream, and more recently, a goal of mine to go tubing again. I took my husband with me who had never been tubing in his life but is really fit. Oh, I'm 61 years old, so literally 48 years between river rides, lol. I never in my life quit swimming. Even when I was 462 lbs (I'm 5'8") I was going to our local spring which has access that even a person as thick as me and as old as me can manage and once I'm in the water I'm a gazelle. It's always been that place where I feel free. I've been swimming every summer since 1965 with the exception of the summer when I became almost bedbound and really sick about 3 years ago and my doc threatened to put me on insulin shots because my sugar was out of control, I was always just oral control with Metformin (I don't take anything anymore, just regulate with diet and exercise). When I first decided to actually work hard to lose the weight I made a list of things I wanted to do again before my time is up, my bucket list, if you will. Tubing was on there. Bike riding was also on there and I cycle 2-3 x week now. Horseback riding is also on there but I have about another 140-ish pounds to go before I get to do that, right now I'm 316 lbs. It's taken me 3 years to get this far. I didn't have surgery, couldn't. Couldn't afford it and had some complications as well. I tried, couldn't. If I could have done that, I would have, so never ever any shade from me to anyone who gets bariatric surgery. I was a nurse. Surgery is rough and the road post-surgery is hard because bariatric surgery is just a tool and every single one of us that becomes SMO has this commonality: you have to deal with what's going on in your head. The key to why you overeat is there. Your job? Find it. SO - We get to the tubing place. Access is not hugely difficult but challenging because the ground is rocky and I have one knee that still ain't the greatest and that affects my balance somewhat. I DID use a brace on that knee from about 420 -ish pounds (was wearing the XXL at 420 lbs) until about 3 weeks ago but that knee is finally strong enough without it and as an ex-orthopedic nurse IMO you only wear the brace when you absolutely have to have it and as soon as you can manage without it you do that. Otherwise you become dependent on it and so do your muscles. I work out 3x week and knee rehab work is part of that every time I go. It's a slow process at my age and size repairing all the damage and I'm always going to have twinges but the more weight I lose the better it's getting. If you need a link to what I feel is a good knee brace for the money on Amazon here you go, it was a huge help to me: XXL knee brace I'm struggling down the gravel road to the river access and I have a little float with me that my big ass fits in, right? There's this HUGE gathering of 21 year old kids celebrating graduation and they are all really fit pretty people. You know, the population I've avoided like the plague since pretty much forever. Right as I'm hobbling past this group of kids the tube proprietor, a girl about 16, comes out and begins to lecture me on why the float I have won't work (she was right, it would have been in shreds inside of 5 minutes) and I tried to shut her up to get her to go back into the tent to discuss it but noooo, she wants to lecture me right here 10 feet in front of these kids, who are all watching me with interest. In the past I would have burst into tears then gone to my husband and told him we have to leave, that I can't do it. That's what anxiety does to you. It's not just the weight, or wasn't for me. It was the absolute crippling anxiety and the absolute belief that everyone on the planet was waiting to point fingers at me like I was a human in Invasion of the Body Snatchers but they wouldn't be screaming, they'd be laughing. Anxiety is a bitch who lies and take it from me, when you evict her from your head life becomes another world entirely and you can evict her. How? Don't listen to her. Finally, because after 3 minutes she's just not shutting tf up I said: "You know, the reason I brought this float is I didn't know if my fat ass would fit in those (pointing at tubes)". Finally she shuts up, mouth hanging open in shock. I dug through the tubes. I found one that looked like it might work but of course, in the back of my head is my mother's voice: "You're f*cking insane, you know that, right? There's no way you'll fit in that, you're going to fall back on it and rebound and end up in the f*cking tree like that kid in Shallow Hal, "Daaaa-ddyyyy". You should quit. Just get your husband and go tf home because you have no business here and you know it." But I get my tube and head for the river. Someone's dog runs up to me (I think I put out dog attraction pheromones or something, they always come up to me wagging and wanting a pet) and just being able to pet him kind of took the edge off my anxiety enough to get in the water after I waited for all the young kids to go because I'm forever and always that bish that waits to go last so I'm not in anyone's way, I've been that way my entire life. I fit in the tube, it blew my mind. I screeched with joy and screamed at my husband, "Hahaha, I fit! Where's my Mario star?" because that's a joke in my family for goals accomplished. The rapids were awesome, I got in and out of the tube a couple of times to swim, the college kids were an absolute blast but were all really shocked to see us on the river, like, I didn't see anyone over the age of about 30. At one point one girl asks my husband, "So what college are y'all graduating from?" We talked to them a little bit and they were really sweet. They had this major sound system on a cooler float and we're riding down the river listening to Silk Sonic and Guns n Roses. I was, in that moment and time while listening to Bruno Mars telling me that if I'm hungry, he got the Lay's, extremely grateful that Lay's are no longer on my radar and all that's on my radar now is I want to be smaller so I can do more things. My fat self, and she is still with me and occasionally harangues me, wants to know who tf I think I am? I think I'm that girl on a river floating into endless possibilities. I want to get back in a canoe. I want to go kayaking. I'd even like to take a shot at rock climbing (with a harness, I'm not completely insane) when I'm at a healthy BMI. I would rather die doing any of those things then to die in the bed, sick and sad. TIL several things: I can do absolutely whatever I set my mind to do. Just because ppl are young and pretty it doesn't mean that they are mean, in fact, quite the opposite and it makes me sad the opportunities I've missed with people because I was afraid of them, afraid of being laughed at, afraid to take up space. All the crying, the misery of an empty stomach, the gut reset because my body wasn't used to fiber, the constant hassle of clothes that don't fit because they baggy and I'm sick of taking stuff in, the nightmares that made me relive the reasons I ate (those are just so much fun), the tough decisions to drive past McDonalds, walk past the candy counter, pour out the sugary drink, throw away the food when I'm full, the tedious-ness of tracking calories, the redundancy of going to the gym regularly (although I'm massively addicted to that now and I hate to miss the gym).... It was all so worth it because I got to take that 13 y/o river rat in my head back out onto the rocks and rapids and she is a very happy girl. I just Googled and found out I'm under the weight limit for most jet skis, I think that's going to be my next adventure in a couple of weeks. In summary I will say this to you: I'm happy that I'm able to finally do the things I want. It makes me sad that I allowed my mental health and food addiction to take these things from me for so many years. Find your passion, whatever it is, find your reason, and lose the weight however you can manage it. I started keto but my heart did a flip flop and I had to give that up. I regained 53 lbs of the weight I had lost and had to lose it again but with CICO and activity I finally finally finally have overcome my binge eating and food addiction because I was willing to take a walk through my brain and fix all the aberrant thinking and actions (largely self-hatred and self-punishment) I was taught as a child. I have around another 140 lbs. to go, maybe more depending on how the skin is. Yes, I have loose skin, the apron and the skin on my upper arms? It's not pretty. I absolutely give ZERO fucks about it beyond doing good skin care and bathing daily and sometimes more depending on what I've been doing and how much I sweat. Compression garments are a godsend. If you are female? I like Torrid's compression shorts and leggings, comfortable and not too bad to get into and they hold things in place nicely. (((hugs))) You can do this, that's why I'm writing all this out. If you see yourself in the fear of others or the negative "I should just give up" self-talk? Stop it. You can stop it. I did. Don't listen. Shut it off. Negativity does not serve you. Now go take care of yourself, eat right, find an activity you enjoy and move and don't forget to love life and live life while you are doing that. submitted by

12KG HAUL REVIEW (+20KG PREVIOUS HAULS SPREADSHEET) // JAPANESE-STYLE CLOTHING // LOTS OF GP'S // KAPITAL, SLP TEDDY, RAF SIMONS, CAV EMPT, THOM BROWNE, FEAR OF GOD, ETC. // FITPICS INCLUDED, MOBILE FRIENDLY
I promised to do a haul review w/ fitpics when it arrived, so here I am boys. I put all my previous hauls into a spreadsheet (quarantine really be making me do this) and reviewed each piece so you can find some fire pieces out of there to add to your own haul. Shipping on this was hella fast, shipped with superbuy on 6/5 and it arrived 6/10, so it took 5 days to get to Canada, which is insane. If you're curious about my shipping, feel free to ask questions (most of them are answered in my QC post, so check my history). EMS do be kinda fast doe Enough TOMFOOLERY, lets get straight into this: FITPICS ALBUM Threw together some quick fits to test out the clothes and how they fit, feel free to tell me how shit my style is lol. The watch I'm wearing in all of these is the G-SHOCK GMW-b5000, if you want to know (its retail.) You can find all the rep clothing that I'm wearing in the spreadsheet. Also, please don't mind the quarantine haircut :) PREVIOUS HAULS REVIEW (20+KG) this is for people who don't really care about this huge wall of text and only want to find some good pieces. consists mostly of my 3 previous hauls which I've never gotten around to posting, my first one is here -STATS- (thanks to u/ SleepDOTEXE for the format inspo) · Age: 18 · Height: 172cm · Weight: 57kg · Shoe size: US10/EU 43-44 · Clothing size: I usually take a US size S or M · Build: Slim, I workout but im definitely not athletic build lmao · Location: Quebec, Canada (repfam québécois where u at) Alright, now that that's out of the way, LETS START THE REVIEWS: -SHIRTS- CDG Homme logo text tee - W2C = QC - Color : Black, Weight: 182g, Size: M First of all, let's start off by saying that this tee is hella light, like really thin. I bought this mainly for layering, so its a good thing for me. If you don't like thin tees, this is not the one for you. Personally, I like to balance thick and thin tees, with the thick ones being used as the main top for the outfit, and the thin ones being layering pieces (like under jackets and stuff.) The fit is pretty good on my body, its not a boxy fit and knows what its going for, which is a mostly straight-cut fit. The problem I have with this tee is that it's pretty long. For some people, it might look like they're wearing an apron or something. Since it's for layering tho, I just tuck it in and it's fine. The fabric is very comfy and flowy, so I have no complaints on that part. Overall, a pretty nice staple tee for any wardrobe, just make sure to tuck it in a bit. Rating: 8/10 Acne Studios simon fluid flower short shirt - W2C = QC - Color : Beige/Yellow, Weight: 303g, Size: XS (size 44) The print on this shirt reminds me of what a grandma would be wearing when she's doing some gardening, but that's what I like about it. To be honest, I don't see any flaws compared to the real one when I look at it, but if there are some (and there will be) it doesn't really matter. The main problem with this short-sleeved shirt is that it's very, very long (you can see it in the QC pics). It looks like a dress on me, and its a size XS. I know it's supposed to be oversized, but come on lol. I'm guessing that they probably want you to tuck it in, cause theres no way that you you leave it untucked and look good. Anyways, apart from that, the fabric is pretty nice, I'm guessing its polyester. Its comfortable for what it is and if you like that oversized and tucked look, this is probably what you're looking for. Personally, I'll wear it alot since I really like that sort of fit. Rating: 8/10 Cav Empt commodification appliquéd shirt - W2C = QC - Color: White, Weight: 412g, Size: XS (size 0) The moment I saw this shirt while browsing taobao, I knew I had to COP. Shits fire. Because of this initial hype though, I was slightly disappointed when it arrived. The fabric feels really plastic-y (its probably polyester again) and its a bit too big for me, even though its the smallest size available (XS.) But, even with these faults, I still like it. I thought it was going to be more like a dress shirt, but in reality, its more of a jacket. This makes it a bit hard to put into outfits, but I tried my best (you can see it in the fitpics album.) The patches make this a very unique piece though they feel a bit paper-y, dont know if thats intended or not. Overall, its not too bad, but the sizing is pretty weird, even for cav empt, which is known for making pieces oversized. My father said its his favorite piece of the haul though, so might might give it to him lol. Rating: 7/10 -SWEATERS- Descendant Voil/henley sweatshirt - W2C = QC - Color: Coffee, Weight: 605g, Size: S (size 1) I didn't really know about the japanese brand Descendant until I found this piece. Now I'll probably buy some more from this brand. They have a sort of cozy skater vibe that I really like, and this piece is no exception. Main problem is that this piece is too oversized for my liking. Took a size S and it fit me like an L/XL, so watch out for that. I'll try to fold the bottom part so it doesn't look too long though. The fabric is very cozy. It feels like a mix between a towel and flannel, its pretty warm. The buttons snap really nicely and they're engraved with the brand's name, which is a nice touch. I thought it would be made of a stretchier fabric, but thats fine since its comfiness makes up for it. Rating: 9/10 Basic wool turtleneck from random taobao seller - W2C = QC - Color: White, Weight: 409g, Size: L (170) For the price, this turtleneck is soooo worth it. The quality to price ratio is insane. I'll definitely buy another one or two for my winter haul. The material is probably cotton or polyester, but it feels like wool and keeps you pretty warm. The sizing is chinese sizing so for an S size like me I had to take an L size for this turtleneck, so if you're not a manlet like me, you probably won't be able to cop :,( Overall, its a basic piece with good quality and a low price, what else can I say? There are no tags though, if thats a concern for you. Rating: 10/10 WOULD COP AGAIN Thom Browne 4 stripes merino wool cardigan - W2C = QC - Color: Dark grey, Weight: 448g, Size: XL (size 4) Imma preface this by stating that this is definitely not merino wool, maybe not even wool to start off with. To be honest, I kinda prefer it to be cotton or polyester since they're materials that are way easier to wash than wool, so this rep has that over the real version. For the price, this cardigan is very high quality. It has the baggy feel that I wanted, since I took XL, and the materials are not too thick or thin, which is a plus. I like the unique look of the hems on this cardigan, they're very long. Flaws probably include no tag or thom browne branding whatsoever and the buttons which don't have branding on them either. Overall, a nice basic cardigan that doesn't attract too much attention. Rating: 9/10 Gallery Dept. French logo painter's hoodie - W2C = QC - Color: Washed black, Weight: 873g, Size: S When I saw this hoodie, I fell in love with it instantly, so I knew I had to find it on taobao and cop it. From what I can see, there are not a lot of flaws that are visible on this piece. The distressing is really good and the color is pretty spot-on, it has that vintage used feel which I really like. Its super comfy and falls really well over the shoulders. If this quarantine stays longer, this is probably what I'll be wearing in the next few days/weeks/months. The hood is just the right size for my head and its also really comfy, while not being too heavy. Its a thick and warm hoodie, what more do you need? Rating: 10/10 COP -OUTERWEAR- Saint-Laurent Paris Teddy Jacket - W2C = QC - Color: Black, Weight: 922g, Size: S (size 46) This piece is probably the reason why half of you even clicked on this review, so I'll try to go more in-depth. Ok its a well-reviewed piece so maybe not too in-depth. Its also a pretty expensive piece, it cost me about 125$ CAD (600 yuan), excluding shipping. To start off, I love this jacket to bits, its really nice. I fell in love with the cropped fit and the SLP look in general, so I knew I had to get this essential SLP piece. The crosshatch wool outer of the jacket feels really good to the touch and is definitely warm enough for the spring and autumn months, which is where I'll wear this jacket most of the times. The leather details on the shoulders are made of real lambskin leather, and is part of the reason why this jacket is expensive. The tags feature the classic SLP snake chain over top and no flaws from what I can see. The edges are really, really soft, don't know what they're made of but they're really soft. It feels really nice around your neck and arms. Main gripes are that the outer pockets are really small, I can't even fit my whole hand in there, so I definitely won't put my stuff in them, and also the buttons rattle a bit when you're walking. The sound isn't really noticeable by other people than the wearer though, so that's fine by me. On the other hand, the inner pocket is huge an can fit a lot of things, including an ipad. The buttons click nicely together, but I'll leave it open most of the time so it doesn't really matter to me. Overall, its a really nice jacket and worth it if you're willing to shell out this much for a piece. Its truly a quality rep and I'll try to keep it in my wardrobe for a long time. Rating: 10/10 COP (if you have the money) Kapital Ring coat field jacket - W2C = QC - Color: army green, Weight: 1114g, Size: S For a lot of Kapital fans, this coat is considered a grail. There are tons of versions of this jacket using many types of fabrics and fits, but this one, I think, is made of nylon mostly. It feels inspired by WW1 soldiers and when I wear it I feel like I'm playing battlefield 1 lol. The quality is amazing on this piece. There are tons of buttons everywhere and so many ways you can close this jacket and attach it. The pockets are really big and there are tons of them, so you'll probably never run out of space while wearing this. The length is exactly how I wanted it, which is around thigh length. I think this jacket is gonna be hard to pull off in an outfit, it feels pretty difficult to style since its so unique, but I really love it. Rating: 10/10 Cav Empt Overdyed 8 whale corduroy jacket - W2C = QC - Color: overdyed blue, Weight: 843g, Size: S I needed a good ole corduroy jacket, and this one is perfect for me, since I love Cav Empt so much. The quality of the corduroy is pretty good for the price. It feels soft and not stiff at all, which is a welcome surprise for me. The buttons are heavy and feel really good quality too. I love that this jacket hides the buttons and the overall oversized look that it has. The way it fits on my body is perfect and its just the right type of baggy. From what I can see, there are no apparent flaws. Rating: 10/10 -SHOES AND ACCESSORIES- Suicoke kisee-v technical sandals - W2C = QC - Color: black and white, Weight: 793g, Size: EU 42 I really wanted to get some sandals for the summer, but I don't really like slides, not because I don't like the look, but because I find them pretty hard to walk in, since they're not attached to the back of your feet. While checking some sandals fits for inspiration, I found out about suicoke sandals and the rest is history. I really like the japanese look of these, they fit well my aesthetic and I found that they go well with pretty much anything, even socks (yes, socks with sandals, i know.) They are pretty comfy, although I'm not a fan of the little indentations in the sole, I find them more uncomfortable than not, even though they're supposed to aid the comfort. I'm guessing its because I'm really flat-footed, so I don't need things like these. But, even with the indentations, the sole is really comfortable and pretty thick. Its nice to walk in and I feel I could walk in them for a long time before my feet get tired. The only flaw I saw is that the tag has some misspellings ("comtortable" lmao) , but no one will look at it anyways. Rating: 9/10 Common projects chelsea boots - W2C = QC - Color: Taupe, Weight: 1751g, Size: EU 43 Since I'm getting older, I find myself a bit less attracted to sneakers, and more to leather shoes, so I had to cop myself these classics of any men's (white guys mostly lol) wardrobe. For the price, these are amazing. The suede is so soft and high quality to the touch. The sole has a lot of give to it, which makes it a really comfy ride. I find them a bit too big for my feet, I should've definitely sized down if I wanted a perfect fit, but I'll still wear them anyways. There's not much to say except that if you want some good simple chelseas for a really nice price, cop these. I hope they'll be able to hold up for a while. Rating: 10/10 COP Raf Simons x Dr Martens 1461 Derby cut-out shoes - W2C = QC = ADDITIONAL PICS FOR CURIOUS PEOPLE - Color: Black, Weight: 1779g, Size: EU 42 These shoes are also a piece where people wanted to know the quality, so I went a bit more in-depth. Imma start off by stating that these shoes are HEAVY AF. They're legit steel toe shoes. Like if someone dropped a big rock on your shoes you wouldn't feel anything except the emotional pain from having a big scratch on your polished metal toe cap. When I opened these up, I could really smell the fufu heavily. Make sure to air them out a bit before you wear them or you'll legit pass out from the fufu gas (/s.) Since I paid a lot for these, I'll make this review a bit more in-depth. Let's start off with the leather quality: its pretty nice for the price. Of course, I didn't really expect top quality leather from these shoes, considering the price, but its pretty good. It feels somewhat soft to the touch and almost plastic-y, but not in a bad way. The interior is made mostly of suede and is pretty comfy to walk in. It doesnt look like it'll get a bad look with time. Its stiff, but its normal with new leather since it takes a bit of time to break in. The leather is pretty much equivalent to what real dr martens have, and the stitching is pretty consistent with no apparent flaws. The comfiness of the sole is also comparable to real dr martens. They fit me pretty well, I had to size down from my usual EU 43 because they're thin leather shoes and it fit me perfect. They look big on me because I have pretty big feet for my size lol. The only gripe I have with these is that the leather is a bit too stiff around the ankles: Every time I walk, my ankle meets with the edge of the leather and its pretty annoying. I'm hoping that after I break them in more, it'll be okay (for now i'll cope with some band-aids around the bad parts.) Overall, I really like these shoes, I'll put them on for a lot of fits in the future and they'll be a main in my rotation. Rating: 9/10 Kapital old man and the sea bucket hat - W2C = QC - Color: Washed denim, Weight: 171g, Size: One Size This is the final piece of the haul, and what a piece this is! This makes you look like the ultimate rich bum. I love it. The only gripe is that its a bit too big for my head, but apart from that, its really comfy and looks pretty good. The design and materials are really unique and this piece is truly a conversation starter. Its amazing and can't wait for quarantine to be over so I can wear it. Rating: 10/10 ****** Well, this is the fifth time that I invested so much in clothing, and its only been a year and a half since I started. Goddamn this is an addiction lol. Though I have to admit my style got way better after taking the time to invest in my own clothing and doing some research on styles I like. Fashion as a whole is a good way to express yourself and boost your self-confidence. I really like the cozy japanese/slp/korean look and don't like much branding on my clothes, unlike many other repfams, so I have to search a bit deeper to find what I like (btw you do you, any style is a good style as long as its your own.) There are tons of unique pieces you can find on taobao and I'm already making another list of some stuff for the next haul, which means another review in the future. Hope you guys have a lot of luck with your hauls and have insanely good shipping times. For the one person still here, thanks for reading fam, and stay safe out there. submitted by /u/Shacomd to r/FashionReps [link] [comments]

Translating inspiration styleboards into a wearable wardrobe (with examples!)
Have you meticulously curated a Pinterest board or folder of photos for fashion inspiration and absolutely love the aesthetic you’ve found, but realized that all the outfits in the photos are too impractical to directly translate to your lifestyle? You can still definitely infuse your own wardrobe (or start a new one, if you're in the process of doing an overhaul) with some fantasy style. Just because you need or want a smaller capsule wardrobe doesn't mean it needs to be full of white button-down shirts, black trousers, nude pumps, and LBDs. Focusing on building a wardrobe rather than constructing as many individual outfits to be as evocative of the theme as humanly possible makes the style more wearable and easier to integrate with other sorts of pieces that are either more minimal and casual or of another style. There is a FAQ after the examples discussing a few things like “Do I need to have just one style? Do I need to define my style(s) to Fashion properly?” Edited again on 7/16 to clean up formatting and add more detail, after a detour of the post getting removed by automod because I accidentally added a url-shortened youtube link. Now with downloadable pdf version of this guide (sans the examples because then it would be 50 pages with all the photos, but I've updated to include some small written examples at each section)! Thanks u/katie-didnot for suggesting I make one. What this is This is a pretty long post, but I hope that this guide can give anyone who feels lost trying to pull the aesthetic of a more fantastical inspiration boards into their actual outfits without feeling like they’re wearing a half-assed cosplay a detailed framework and concrete examples to help make that happen. I enjoy making inspo boards and sometimes come up with wardrobes for them. Sometimes it’s an entirely virtual wardrobe, sometimes I like to see what I can come up with just from my existing closet, and sometimes I want to change up my style a little and will get more things. These are the sorts of things that I look for when analyzing any inspiration board. I find that for so many things in life, starting from a checklist can help a lot. Since this is a creative endeavor, there are a lot of ways you could do this. If you have another method that works for you, I’d love to hear about it in the comments! I personally love organization, structure, lists, that sort of thing, so this way has worked well for me. What this is not Magic – If you want to look like you're wearing super dramatic period pieces or extravagant costumes in your inspiration board, but don't actually want to wear literally these things, you are not going to look exactly like the original board. We're still going to end up with an interpretation, not a direct "how to cop this exact look" outfit. A shopping guide – Items shown were selected purely on visual merits and from coming from stores that provided clear stock photos for illustration purposes. A complete wardrobe overhaul guide – See the guide from the sidebar for great advice on how to go about that. I also recommend reading “The Curated Closet” by Anuschka Rees which is what the sidebar guide is based on. A lot of this post has roots in the methods from the book, though I’ve emphasized what I’ve personally found helpful as well as added content including some outfit styling tips. The book goes over a lot more areas related to wardrobe overhauls, such as learning how to shop mindfully and evaluate clothing fit, as well as going into more detail on things that are just briefly discussed here, such as closet composition. Examples attempt to be somewhat comprehensive in broad categories of clothing but are not aiming for 100% coverage of clothing for every activity life could throw at you. A gold standard for inspiration albums. I do include some boards because that’s the whole starting point, but the focus on this was more on the process of distilling a style based on looking at elements like fabrics and cuts and not how to make a great album featuring a diversity of bodies and designers. I was also lazy and didn’t copy all the individual images into an imgur album (just a shot of the whole board), but if you’re doing a standalone inspiration post you should do that because then people can see the images more easily. Distill the elements of your inspiration board When taking notes for this section, avoid vague terms like “ethereal” or “1970s”. Go for concrete details like “low square necklines” or “monochrome tie-dye”. You can use the more vague terms to group details together, but most of the list should be things that you can literally search for online, or something that is an instantly identifiable property of an item. What are the recurring visual elements in the style board? Since you’re going through all this because most of the items in the board aren’t directly wearable for your lifestyle, you want to start off looking at more basic properties of the style. For example, it’s easier to look for something if you’re looking for a “light colored longline wool(-blend) coat with faux fur collar/cuffs” than “something that feels like a snow queen would wear it”. Colors and prints Get really descriptive with your notes on prints. For example, if there are polka dots, are they large, bold, randomly placed polka dots or tiny evenly-spaced polka dots? Is animal print a realistic pattern or stylized? Does the print have crisp edges or is more painterly? Are the colors high contrast or muted? In addition to noting specific colors, I like to identify types of colors that works for the style because when shopping it is usually impractical to literally only buy five exact shades. For example, cool-toned pastels and deep jewel tones, saturated earth tones, or warm greys. Fabrics Note general fabric properties. Structured and crisp suiting fabrics? Earthy fabrics like heavy linen? Diaphanous fabrics like mesh and lace? Are there a lot of technical/performance fabrics (i.e. athletic fabrics). Pay attention to fabric weight, drape, and texture, even for things like t-shirts. Silhouettes What common outfit silhouettes are there? Which parts of the body are emphasized and de-emphasized? Are shapes more organic and slouchy, or tailored? You can get a bit more clothing specific here where it makes sense, as some descriptors are only applicable to a particular category of clothing, e.g. “wide leg pants”, so we can start getting more specific here). For example, “sharply emphasized shoulders in a structured silhouette that defines the waist”, “a soft columnar silhouette with long dresses that lightly skim the body with lots of fabric”, “structured cropped outerwear over a very fitted top and slouchy pants”, or “sack silhouette that leaves no idea of the body shape, but with fitted sleeves / sleeveless”. Motifs A catch-all for any other notable (but specific!) details. For example, “celestial objects” (if they appear a lot in jewelry and as clothing embellishments but aren’t exactly a print) or “visible mending”. Styling choices How is the clothing worn can also make or break a look. Are tops always tucked in? Are they tucked in neatly or in a looser partial way? Are shoes always worn with visible socks? Are pants cuffed or shirtsleeves rolled up? Are tops buttoned up all the way? Is there always a ton of layers? Is jewelry bold or minimal? Is hair worn down and loose or up? Does hair have volume or is it kept sleek/short? Is there visible makeup? Is it graphic or soft and blended? What makes this distinct from other similar styles? What subset of the visual elements should we focus on to keep the style intent more obvious? Thinking about what not to include can be as helpful for keeping the style distinct as what to include. For example, if you have a “queen of the night” board and decided you will be wearing all black, how will you keep your look distinct from other commonly black monochrome aesthetics? You could note to avoid denim and t-shirts (especially together), and to try and avoid completely unembellished outfits (the queen of the night is not a ninja). Note requirements of your lifestyle What constraints does your lifestyle put on your wardrobe? E.g. Is this capsule for work, weekends, or both? Are you in a business casual office? Have an active job? Bike commute? What’s your tolerance for fussing with clothes? Is dry cleaning okay? Do you go clubbing? Attend operas? How often? Do you have fluffy pets that shed a lot? Young children? Note hard requirements to put on clothes based on these lifestyle. E.g. no fabrics that collect or show lint easily, machine-washable and dryable fabrics only, only items that have enough stretch you can bend over and do squats easily, nothing that requires special undergarments to look nice, long sleeves must be able to be pushed up, no skirts or pants that drag on the ground, nothing that requires a very specific kind of tuck to look nice. You can keep some distinction for special occasion clothes, but be realistic. If you are at work or at home or doing something active outdoors 97% of the time, if you want to minimize the number of items which collect dust in your closet, aim to buy everything to fit into your criteria. Write that all down. Identify specific items make the biggest impact What specific pieces do you think would make the biggest impact for this style? These will likely be more distinct types of clothing (e.g. flare pants, military style jackets, wide-brimmed hats) that appear in multiple images, or a detail (e.g. plaid fabric, embroidery) that appears in multiple pieces. Be specific but not so specific you have no hope for finding the item at all lest you get it custom made. Think along the lines of detail in “plaid wide-leg or loose tapered trousers” or “heavy boots with a lot of hardware”. Write down anything you think could work, and note whether there’s a range of colors you’d like to find it in, or are set on finding it in a specific color. For any pieces that do not work with the list of lifestyle requirements, try and think of a similar item that still has the same feeling. For example, if your board has lots of people wearing pointed toe stilettos but you don’t wear heels, you could add leather pointed toe flats or boots. Sometimes there might not be any obvious toned-down version for an item, but that’s okay. There are so many dimensions of style to work with that you can always incorporate something else. How do you actually find stuff once you have a list? This is a bit of an art, and it’s a combination of knowing the pure elements you want and finding some brands that tend to make that style. It generally helps to know more fashion vocab, so you can search particular shops or on Etsy or ebay. The easiest way to do this is to image search for “types of { collars / sleeves / skirts / etc }” and take a look at some infographics. If you have no idea what shop to start with, use the shopping tab on Google or search in shopping aggregators like Lyst. If you find one brand that fits the style, find their Instagram and see if they follow similar brands. If they have a hashtag on instagram, see what other brand hashtags people who wear that brand use. Err towards looking at a lot of stuff and bookmarking it and filtering things down later. If the style you're chasing is incredibly specific, it's unlikely you'll find a brand that caters to it exactly. Building a well-rounded wardrobe As you’re looking for new pieces, consider the role each item plays in an outfit. Is it more of a statement or a base piece? Is it a shirt/bottom/outerwear/shoe/etc? Is that a niche that is filled in the items you have already? Try and fill out categories of clothing evenly. If you have 10 items of new style that you’re mixing with 50 items of your old style but 7 of the new items are blouses in the same color family, that’s probably not going to make as much of an impact as if you had a few bottoms, a piece of outerwear, a pair of shoes, and some accessories mixed in. Notes on color palettes In my opinion, keeping a limited color palette is the easiest way to get a cohesive feel in a wardrobe that may otherwise be eclectic. A limited color palette doesn’t necessarily mean a neutral palette. You can pick neons and cool neutrals, colors that remind you of a tropical vacation…. you name it. Just keep constraints on some dimensions of the color. Color can also be used to create a sense of variety in a smaller wardrobe. To create more depth in the capsule using color, you can include at least one color each that’s dark, medium, and light value. Check that the color variety isn’t just in one category of your wardrobe. Try and have as much of your palette as possible in each category (i.e. if all your tops are colorful but all the bottoms are dark, that still won’t feel like much variety). Integrating a new style into your existing wardrobe It’s fine to keep items for this new style as a separate mini capsule within your wardrobe. But if you want to be able to integrate them without looking too eclectic, I recommend sitting down with the list of key items you've identified and a shortlist of your most-worn clothing (a simple paper list or spreadsheet with one column per clothing category works great) and considering how things could work together in different combinations. e.g. if you are deciding what type or color of top you could get, think about whether it would work with at least 3/5 of your most-worn bottoms. Depending on your wardrobe, the style you’re trying to add, and what level of eclecticness you’re cool with, tasteful integration with your current wardrobe may not be feasible and you may want to just keep the new style as a small capsule within the rest of your wardrobe. Definitely don't buy a new wardrobe in a month! Start with getting a few items (I'm talking like, 2-3 things) and see how you feel from there. Again, if you’re doing a wardrobe overhaul, the guide in the sidebar outlines some advice for that excellently. Finding a balance of wearability and drama in outfits We’re essentially aiming to half-ass the style on the original board. But to look intentional, half-ass it evenly in the whole outfit. Keep the parts of the outfit at similar levels of formality. Items don’t have to be exactly the same level of extra, but it will look more cohesive if they are all about one level of formality of each other. Zoe Hong’s video “How to Design From Runway to Real Life” (being extra careful not to offend the AutoMod again with a shortened link – her channel is youtube.com/zoehongteaches) goes over a lot of elements that can make things more or less wearable. It’s written with an audience of design students in mind rather than consumers, but the concepts are all solid. Formality of clothes in women’s fashion is much less clear cut than in men’s fashion, but generally fabric will determine a lot of it. i.e. Just because it’s a dress doesn’t mean it’s formal. A stretchy knit cotton sundress is less formal than a cotton poplin sundress, and a dress in the same cut with tiers of eyelet lace would be more festive. If you’re going to err towards more disparate levels of extra in the items used in one outfit, I find that grounding the look (literally) with shoes that have visual interest often makes the whole thing look more intentional. Doesn’t mean you have to wear bedazzled heels, but the shoes should have visual weight and contribute to the style of the outfit. For example, flat leather oxfords, pointed toe boots, or chunky strap flatform sandals all have more visual interest than your standard pair of low-profile black sneakers or flip flops but are still being wearable relative to a lot of the shoes you find in Pinterest outfits. Another method that you can try is rather than starting with a plain outfit and swapping in or adding more fanciful pieces, you can initially go all out with the look and then remove (or swap out for a more low-key version) a few accessories or base items until you feel comfortable. Examples! Let's actually see how we can draw the rest of the owl. I included three examples. The first is more on the extreme side in terms of starting point and endpoint because I feel that makes for a clearer example. It’s a complete but small wardrobe and the outfits are shown as polyvore style collages because I obviously am not going to actually buy a wardrobe's worth of stuff for a reddit post. The latter two are like the FFA Inspo Album Starter Pack (I mean that as a term of endearment) and use items that are a subset of my actual wardrobe. The first one is more of an “I don’t want to go through this whole damn list exactly step by step, but I can more or less get the idea” example. I generally follow this process when doing my own wardrobe remixes now that I've done it so much I don't need a literal checklist, but in the last example I really go all out picking apart the board details just to show the kinds of things you can notice and decide whether to incorporate into your own look. I chose more popular ones because since these are the sorts of styles I’ve seen a lot of inspo posts for over the past few years, I’m familiar with, and I could actually put some outfits together with using mostly stuff I had already. If you’ve got your own board and a list of some items you decided to get based on it, I’d love to see them! Example 1: Victorian garden party, but make it athleisure When your inner self is eating muffins and sipping tea with the characters of The Importance of Being Earnest but you work from home and are very active and have no tolerance for any sort of clothing that doesn't have high stretch. This one just uses stock photos but I did collage the stock photos into outfits to give a better idea of how they could go together. Inspiration: Imgur screnshot and Pinterest board Items and Outfits: Imgur More detailed explanation of how I chose different types of items are in the imgur album. You can find the items and outfits as subsections on the Pinterest board linked above. Recurring Elements Colors: creams, whites, beige, pastel floral colors, quite a lot of green and lighter blue – think of a lovely spring day Fabrics: Sheer layers, lace, airy fabrics, silk Silhouettes: Nipped in waists, full skirts, high necklines or sharp v or square necklines, graceful gathers and drape, voluminous sleeves Styling Choices: Hats! Hats were an integral part of outfits back in the turn of the century. Skirts and sleeves are poofy, but there aren’t really layers. Distinguish from other styles There’s going to be a fair amount of overlap with any sort of aggressively soft and feminine style, but to give the wardrobe a bit more focus, we can decide on some things we are not going to include in order to reduce elements that may skew it in other directions. Ballet style: Soft frothy pastels and floral motifs and athletic cuts are also strongly associated with ballet. In order to steer a bit away from this, let’s avoid anything with mesh or sequins. Lingerie-inspired style: Corsetry and yards of lace are both elements that conjure images of fluffy Edwardian blouses and parasols. However, if we are going with more skintight athletic wear items, then these can easily move into a lingerie aesthetic, so let’s avoid lace-up and lace elements. Misc notes I actually started out focusing on creams, pinks, and purples, but realized it would read a bit too “gendered childrens clothing line”, so I decided to add the blues and greens. Another thing I did here to keep things simpler was limiting the floral prints to accessories and bottoms, but avoiding tops. I felt that floral tops was the more pedestrian choice (I’m being DRAMATIC and CREATIVE here), so I limited it to pants and accessories. I think this also makes it easier to mix-and-match because you rarely have to worry about clashing prints if they’re all in pants. Specific things to look for In this example since I decided to stick to athleisure it was simple enough to just search for floral prints and colors within the palette. For accessories I wanted to include some more direct references, so I looked into straw and canvas bags, a wide-brimmed hat, and a porcelain tea set inspired water bottle. Example 2: Your basic witch This is basically the recurring summer goth/witch themed inspo that pops up periodically. Here tbh I just got lazy but figured it would be good to have one shorter and less “Are you crazy?? Who’s gonna go through all these steps and detail????” example anyway. Looking at the inspo board on Pinterest (or a screenshot of it on imgur), we can see it’s a pretty traditional dramatic romantic goth sort of style with all black, with a bent towards a medieval historical style rather than more punk-y goth. Say we’re starting with a casual wardrobe that’s mostly black already, but is pretty plain so no one would take a look and be like “YES this definitely has low-key witchy vibes.” If the spring/summer basics are basic black denim shorts, jeans, and a jersey maxi skirt, plain sandals, and boots and I don’t really want to go full out queen-of-the-night-wears-valentino because I like stretch skirts and denim, then the place to try and incorporate the style would be in tops and accessories. If I have the 3 bottoms mentioned above that I want to incorporate and get 2 more fun and themed (i.e. more elaborate or sheer fabrics, or silhouettes with dramatic poofy sleeves and/or severe medieval dress style square necklines) tops that go with all of them, then that’s 6 outfits and if you’re only wearing these on weekends that’s already a great set to work with, especially if you add options for accessories. You can have a lot of fun with a particular style even if you don’t have a giant collection of items for it. The most obvious accessories to add would be a black wide-brimmed hat and a purse that has more elaborate details on it. Silver-toned boho jewelry would also work, as well as some more fashion-y sunglasses (e.g. circle style or cat-eye style instead of aviator). I also shamelessly love witchy styles. This year I decided I think the more maximalist version is a lot more fun than the minimal sack-dress woodsy style, so I got 2 tops that were more on theme. I wanted to get more feeling of variety so I got a long sleeved off the shoulder blouson sleeve top and a square-neck sleeveless crop top. I think a lace-up corset closure would be more on-theme than a zipper, but I’ve tried lace-up styles before and I personally don’t like wearing them. I like how this top is reminiscent of stays (as in the corset-like things) but the zipper keeps it from being too ren faire anyway. (I already had a black sun hat). Et voila, a few outfits.. More obviously inspired by the board than a black ribbed tank top and the same bottoms, but also wearable in a casual setting. Example 3: 1920s-1940s adventurer style You know those posts. The perennial Indiana Jones / Lara Croft inspired posts. Inspiration, items and outfits: Imgur (more details on how I chose items and put together outfits in the album). Pinterest (just inspo). Recurring Elements TLDR: earth-toned vintage military-inspired style with a relaxed but practical feel. Earth tones: Obviously. Olive, khaki, beige/cream, browns of various shades. Some black, but it’s not a dominant neutral. Think National Park Service. Sturdy natural fabrics: All over the catalogs you see them bragging about how the properties of the cotton, linen, wool, and leather items of various kinds will aid you on your adventure. Not the sort of technical materials you’d get from modern workwear and activewear brands. (For the record, I don’t hate synthetics on principle. They just don’t make sense here.) There are still soft fabrics, but nothing diaphonous or delicate. Comfortable silhouettes: a bit loose to accommodate movement because spandex wasn’t really a thing in clothes back in our era of inspiration, but not so loose that things will catch on vegetation or machinery. I didn’t want to comb through all the scans to dig it up, but the copy from one of the catalogs advertising a skirt said something to the effect of “loose enough to take long brisk strides in without catching between the legs”. Military details: A lot of this style is closely related to the military (i.e. pilots) or is just so utilitarian in bent that military surplus makes sense. Vintage styling: The catalogs cite inspiration anywhere from the Victorian era through the 1980s (they did actually sell t-shirts in addition to stuff like that embedded scans), but from what I can tell focuses on the elements of 20s through 40s. With an 80s bent, for example they have so many sweater dresses and shirt dresses with wide belts over them. So this means mostly structured and tailored items and more classic style shoes like lace-up boots and oxfords. Specific items and styling details that could work Boots: A lot of the modern inspo photos feature Doc Martens boots, which also work with the military inspiration. Shoes are generally comfortable and on the sturdy side, and are lace-up. Chelsea boots would work too. Loose trousers: Specifically jodhpurs, but we can assume that we’re not going to be walking around casually in those any time soon, but trousers that are relaxed around the thighs then tapered down can have a similar vibe. Wide-leg 40s trousers also appear. There aren’t really any leggings or skinny pants. Jeans were a thing in the 40s and definitely appear in a lot of working women historical photos, but I think going hard enough on the vintage pieces to pull a look more old-timey with jeans will usually end up looking like a costume or a 50s pinup style so I’d just avoid it. Midi skirts: Not mini skirts (might as well wear shorts) or maxi skirts which would be a trip hazard. Crisp styles rather than breezy or boho styles. Belts. Belted everything! Very 80s with the dresses. Aviator-inspired bomber jackets, shearling jackets: Optional: those leather flight caps and goggles :P Safari/field jackets Linen/cotton button-down shirts, beige/white or olive. This + khaki or olive bottoms are core pieces. Henley shirts or plain tops can also work, more of an off-duty sort of vibe. Hats: structured hats like panama hats, in straw or wool. Probably wanna avoid anything that looks like a literal pith helmet. Bandana/scarf for hair or around the neck. Heritage/Fisherman sweaters Jumpsuits and safari/utility dresses Vintage aviator style watches Leather/canvas backpacks and messenger bags For modern looks, a balance between vintage-inspired and modern. If pants are more modern (e.g. plain trousers vs pleated trousers), pair with a more old-timey top. If the top and bottom could be just any old outfit, add a hat + statement vintage shoes. Distinguish from other styles So at a certain level of dilution, any original inspo can and will read more vaguely. But some things to think about: Soft prairie / romantic / Victorian undergarments style: At least one of top/bottom should be more structured. So a soft romantic vintage style top like the one in the linked photo could work with more structured pants (like the free people crop wide-leg pant from above shown again here). Or the pictured skirt could work with a utility/camp button-down. Socialite on vacation in the Mediterranean style: These two images show items/outfits that are pretty close, but not quite sturdy enough to feel adventure-y. The first is more of a loungewear jumpsuit and while the second outfit is pretty close, the shoes don’t exactly look like they’re made for going places even though they’re flat. Open shoes can work, but I think something more heavy-duty like Birkenstocks fit better. Just straight-up military inspired style: I think by nature a lot of the pieces or outfits individually could be read as just plain vintage military inspo, but collectively they shouldn’t have a drill sergeant vibe. In another example of accessories making or breaking it, the sleek black boots and black beret bring it more towards “when you have brunch at 11 and a coup at 12”. I tend to favor lace-up boots for this style because it feels more boots-on-the-ground and less shiny officer boots, if that makes any sense. Also sticking to lighter earthy tones can keep things more obviously safari inspired. Professor style: actual professors now obviously wear a larger variety of styles, but I mean that sort of old school ivy league humanities professor look. This is a really fun look, but it’s on the formal/buttoned-up side and doesn’t quite have the outdoorsy vibe. I think incorporating at least one more utilitarian/relaxed fit piece can help bring it more towards an explorer/adventurer look. FAQ Questions no one has actually asked me, since I obviously just posted this, but which I've seen cropping up periodically on FFA. Cool, now I can dress like a Tolkien elf / sci-fi villain at my new job at the law firm? If part of your job description involves wearing a literal uniform for safety/practicality or looking as close to some conservative industry standard as possible, it's probably in your best interest from a career perspective to stick to reserve your creative outfits for the weekend. There was one true corporate goth “Dark Goddess of the Cubicle Farm” (sadly since deleted) which actually attempted to be fully business casual compliant, and the top comment was basically "that just looks like business casual with small goth details?" That’s the point! There’s a spectrum on how hard you can lean into a style. You can incorporate a small flavor of it, or a lot. Your clothes don’t have to be a 100% reflection of WHO YOU REALLY ARE INSIDE every day. Just have fun with it how you can. Do I need to have just one style? Do I need to define my style(s) to Fashion properly? No, only if you think it will be fun or that having a more cohesive wardrobe will make getting dressed easier for you. Even if you find it helpful to define your style, it doesn’t have to be like, “Atlantic storm goddess who is trying to pass as a schoolteacher in 1940s NYC”. Something like “I like things that are more minimal and structured for my business casual clothes” or “girly-leaning grunge” can also work. You could still apply the process I outlined here. I just chose more sartorially weird examples because I think most people have a better sense of how to find items that were inspired by things that are obvious to find in mall stores, but it isn't always obvious how to do that if you're starting with movie costume or couture inspo. Having a sort of mission statement for your wardrobe that you can come back to when shopping or deciding what you need to get rid of can help keep all your pieces more cohesive, which will make creating intentional-looking outfits easier. If you don’t care about having a cohesive outfit or wardrobe, there is no reason to do this. But many people find having some kind of cohesive look aesthetically pleasing and comforting. You also don't need just one style! I don't militantly stick to one style, but I still like to come up with capsules within my wardrobe that fit more specific aesthetics. You could also have one main style so that most of your clothes will look fine together that you defined based off an intensely-curated Pinterest board, and then the other 20% is just whatever you thought looked nice. Or maybe 80% of your clothes is just whatever you thought looked nice and could wear to work, but you have a small capsule of going-out clothes with a strong aesthetic. Whatever floats your boat. Why does FFA have a childish obsession with shoving their wardrobes into overly specific style buckets? Because it's a way that people can have fun with clothes. Let 👏 people 👏 like 👏 things Seriously though, it's an online forum. You're gonna get the people who are really extra into things. But why witches?? [DISCUSSION] Thresherwood - A Basic Guide to A Spicy Summer: Concepts to Think About + Mini Summer Inspo
Hey guys, washed up legend here. It’s been awhile since I’ve written anything about fashion, but I wanted to return to speak about something I’m currently in the midst of. Unbearable heat and suffering. It’s so goddamn hot right now any everything I know and love is turning into goop around me. My black cropped pants have turned into void mayonnaise and all of my long sleeves and jackets I’d bury my insecurities into have seemingly disappeared. It seems that I’m onto my last line, something that even fire itself couldn’t burn (don’t fact check that). Short sleeved clothes. There are some things that can be avoided, others not so much. For some of us, it’s possible to pass through summer with a pair of jeans and a shirt, but for others it’s time to strip down to bear essentials, and come face to face with the reality that rick owens wasn’t built for the heat. I’m going to go top down for what I’d recommend to look for in a nice summer wardrobe. This isn’t a heavy to do list, but rather ideas and concepts to keep in mind while making a wardrobe. I’ll leave an inspo or two down below, however. ESSENTIAL IDEAS: Summer is heat. Summer is the long day spent doing nothing, maybe hanging around with friends and playing video games, or being lame and going outside. Summer has always stood out to me as a vast empty space, where it’s only what I make of it. The lack of responsibility, the deafening heat, the long nights to only wake up at 3 pm the next day. Obviously I can’t speak for everyone, but Summer has a bizarre quality that schooling / working doesn’t create. I’ve never enjoyed them as the lack of structure tends to make me all fritzy, but I think that is really represented in the fashion. Think about the lack of direction, the spaciness, how easy it is to get lost in all of it. The warmness in the air and in the clothes and attitudes, and how casual everything is. Save the fits that blow everyone out of the water for the Fall and Winter, where things are way more serious. HATS: I’m not really a hat guy, but I have respect to those who can rock one. My bulbous head doesn’t really agree with the shape of a baseball cap, but one thing my dome can rock are bucket hats. It’s slowly growing here in the US, but bucket hats are back in full swing in Asia. the week I spent in Korea over spring break only solidified my feelings about my bucket hats and I think they can look great if you wear one right. Too be honest, it’s just like wearing a standard cap, you need to count for colors and fabrics matching, and if you choose to have a design make sure it doesn’t rock the boat of your fit. Buckies look best when they’re not the defining piece of your outfit, rather they’re the bummy uncle that just happens to be there, and when you see it you’re like “Really? I guess that’s a thing” and the feeling is wonderful. As for actual baseball caps, a standard dad hat can work. There’s nothing very experimental or wild about one, but you can use it to add color or flair to an outfit in desperate need of some spice. Hats can be a nice addition, but make sure the balance is there somewhere in the mix. SHIRTS: This is the part of the article where everything gets super subjective and ultimately your tastes will bring you to wear you want. A shirt is such an abstract concept. You could really go in a million directions with one and still land somewhere. Obviously for graphics I’d make sure that it’s something that I like, want to represent, maybe it has a nice color scheme. But at the end of the day it’s just whatever catches your eye. I’m a capitalist pig that really enjoys his brands, so shirts that have a cool logo for something I’m interested easily catch my eye. If you’re aiming to look “fashionable”, brands that reflect pop culture or gaming are something I’d steer away from. Other things like “Abstract circular logo 2” that you’d find or campy tee shirts are a hard pass from me too. Another way to get more out of just a plain shirt is the cut. If you’re feeling 2016 hypebeast, it’s easy to find a scoop tee from a fast fashion store. They’re pretty played out and uninteresting but if you have the faith in yourself I’d say shoot for it. Boxy tees are also another option, but often times it ruins your proportions without proper caution. There are short sleeved collared shirts that I rock, it can really add some depth and I personally like the dichotomy between the a dressed up collar versus the casual feel of exposed elbows. Also, somewhere in the nebulae, exist casual collared shirts. They exist in the negative space of Tyler the Creator, and I think they’re phenomenal when you completely go against the grain to what I said. They’re peak anti-fashion, and you can find a million and one suitable ones at your local thrift. There are a bunch of other ways to splash interesting looks, including colors (which I wrote a guide on for the /r/streetwear publication, coming soon(™)) and other accessories like fanny packs or if you’re feeling wild, rocking a chest rig. PANTS: Sike, I’m talking about shorts. Let that wagon HANG boy. Your chicken legs have no safe space here. In all honesty, I love shorts. Something is so liberating about them. And while they’re nowhere near as versatile as their longer counterparts, you have a few ways to make it more fun. Color, again, can be a saving grace. Warmer colors and neutrals can add way more flair to an outfit, and avoiding darker neutrals are a given in this weather. Personal favorites of mine are green, grey, yellow, and clay. My entire pants stash is uniqlo and i'm not ashamed. Great quality and they fit perfectly to my body how I want. Fit is where pants can shine. Personally I think they look best when they’re on the slimmer side, especially if they end above the knee as well. This isn’t middle school, baggy cargo shorts are a no go, and personally I avoid baggy sweatshorts or jean shorts too. I think skinny jean shorts can work, but the harsh blue doesn’t work well with what you’d be wanting to rock in the summer. Not to mention, denim is super uncomfortable in most cases and you owe your thighs the break they’ve been begging for. SHOES: Literally the same as in any other season. Some people will say high tops shouldn’t be worn, but if you proportion an outfit correctly it really doesn’t matter. Since outfits will almost always been simpler, look to wear more colorful or eye catching shoes since flash appeal goes a lot farther in the heat. ACCESSORIES AND SOCKS: Get that chain, get that ring, you have nothing to lose. In a battle between silver and gold I always go silver, but gold brings a warm tone if you’re trying to overdose on straight heat in an outfit. For socks, it’s another two way street. I prefer no shows, as I have meaty ass calves that deserve to be seen and I don’t have any blank long socks. I like to let the shoe do the talking and I think a wild sock pattern can detract from the experience. Make sure to stay on top of color fundamentals when looking and keeping tonnage in mind. OKAY: I hope you at least thought about what you’re going to wear now. Fashion in the summer is a weird enigma and it’s easy to slip into a cycle of a boring shirt and some pants that fit poorly, but there are little fixes here and there can really bring and outfit to life and keep the idea of fashun alive. You owe it to yourself to try to improve at least a little bit this summer. TL;DR: wdym my BDC tee isn't fashion INSPO ALBUM submitted by /u/Thresherwood to r/streetwear [link] [comments]

Intro to Streetwear Guide (Spring/Summer 2015)
Warning: Streetwear is, by definition, a subjective sense of style. You might not agree with everything posted in here and there isn't a definitive way you should dress. Second Warning: Most of this guide was written while I was stoned to the bone. That being said, it still turned out better than some of the other guides posted recently, if I do say so myself. I made this a few weeks ago and have been meaning to post this for a while but long story short I haven't had internet at my house lately and my data plan was almost out so mobile wasn't an option. Intro Ok so it seems to be the current trendy thing to post half ass guides for this sub. However, this guide will hopefully not be one of those. I'm by far not the best person to tell you how to dress but I believe I'm more qualified than some people in this sub. I've been keeping up with streetwear for nearly four years now and have been relatively active on this sub for around a year. That being said, remember a good bit of this will be opinion-based, like many of the guides on this sub. This guide is mainly directed towards more Spring/Summer looks considering that typical streetwear trends like goth ninja that heavily rely on layering aren’t really possible in warmer weather. I will try to link brands and products to help provide examples of what I’m talking about or products you could consider buying. In the process of making this guide, I decided to make any links imgur links to pictures of specific products to show the style of the item I’m talking about instead of linking to a place to buy that specific item. However I’m going to include a list of w2c each item in the comments. Table of Contents ESSENTIALS Basics Shirts Pants/Shorts Outerwear Accessories SHOES Sneakers Boots GRAILS Resale PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER ESSENTIALS BASICS When talking about streetwear, the term includes any simple, plain tee shirts, hoodies, crewnecks, etc. Basics typically don’t have any graphics or major branding. However this is not always the case. Most people won’t spend much on basics individually, but tend to look for less expensive, high quality basics. Many people will recommend brands such as Uniqlo, H&M, American Apparel, etc. I don’t have any personal experience with H&M, so I can’t vouch for their quality, and I’ve heard mixed reviews. However, Uniqlo is my go-to for basics, simply based on the quality you get at such a great price. I typically avoid ordering from American Apparel just because I can’t afford to buy as much from there. If you don’t care as much about great quality and your basics lasting a long time, you can always stick to the classic Hanes SHIRTS In streetwear, other than basic tee shirts, crewnecks, and hoodies, you should have a solid rotation of shirts. These could include graphic tees, tanks, button downs/ups, baseball, football, basketball, and even soccer jerseys. Another popular style for the summer is the mandarin or band collar. Make sure you wear shirts that fit your body and body type. For instance, I never wear tanks or basketball jerseys because I have a “dad body” so they don’t look very good on me. I stick to graphic tees and short sleeve button ups with simple patterns/designs. Jerseys play a huge part in streetwear. Also, it’s worth noting that many in the streetwear community recommend avoiding jerseys from actual sports teams. Stick to jerseys from designers/clothing brands. There’s nothing wrong with jerseys for real teams, they just belong on a court/field or in the stands. PANTS/SHORTS Everyone should have a few pairs of jeans in their wardrobe. I’d recommend having at least one pair of dark blue, one pair of light wash, and one pair of black jeans. If you feel like you need or want more jeans, you can get into the world of raw denim or distressed jeans, though it is usually much cheaper to distress an old pair yourself. Many people prefer their pants to have a tapered, slim, or skinny fit. Other than jeans, it’s usually a good idea to have at least one pair of chinos or work pants. Many people also like their pants to stack The best way to achieve this effect is to buy skinny pants or get your pants tapered (it’s usually recommended to a 6” opening at the ankle) and buy pants with an inseam around 4”-6” longer than your inseam length. An alternative to this method for “stacking” your pants is to buy j-cut jeans. In addition to a solid rotation of pants, you should also have some shorts for the warmer months. Some streetwear staples for shorts would be sweatshorts, chino shorts, shorts with prints and patterns, and this year, even jorts seem to be gaining in popularity. OUTERWEAR It’s really not the best idea to wear heavy outerwear in the summer months because of increased heat and humidity. However, it it still recommended you keep a couple lightweight, versatile outerwear pieces somewhere in your rotation for rainy or windy days. I’d recommend something that is breathable, will break wind, and is waterproof or water resistant. Some popular styles for the summer are just typical windbreakers, coach jackets, anoraks, and denim trucker jackets. ACCESSORIES Accessories are a great way you can make your fits a little more personal. However, it is very easy to go overboard. As a general rule of thumb, you should look in the mirror wearing whatever accessories you think you want to wear for that day, then remove at least one accessory. Accessories typically include hats ( 5 panels or “camp caps” and baseball caps are always popular ) and jewelry such as watches, bracelets, chains/pendants, etc. Some other styles of hats that are still technically “streetwear” but many would consider “played out” are bucket hats and snapbacks. Other hats would include boonies and beanies If you live in an area that’s typically sunny during the warmer months, you should also have a nice pair of sunglasses to help protect your eyes. Many people will recommend Ray Ban wayfarers or clubmasters. However, there are many more options out there that are worth taking a look at. For instance, Monocle Order is a site run by a user on this sub /u/heresmyusername that focuses on independent brands with high quality, stylish eyewear. SHOES SNEAKERS There isn’t much to be said about sneakers that hasn’t been said before. I’d highly recommend checking out /u/cantaloupsareswell’s recent Guide to Summer Sneakers. All I can really add to what he has already said is that it is a good idea to diversify your sneaker rotation as far as brands go (you don’t want all Nike/Asics/Adidas/whatever). You should also try to build a rotation with different styles of sneakers. This would include runners, tennis/court shoes, and basketball/lifestyle shoes. BOOTS In addition to sneakers, it’s generally a good idea to have at least one pair of boots in your wardrobe. Popular styles are work boots and chelsea boots. It is usually best to not wear shorts with boots, but we’ll discuss that more later. GRAILS A popular term in the streetwear community is “grail.” This refers to an item that someone deems difficult to obtain whether it be due to rarity or cost. However, this doesn’t mean you’ll never get your grails. You just have to be patient and save your money and eventually your grails will come up for sale at a good price. Some of the more common “grail” items are Supreme Box Logo hoodies, Bape Shark hoodies, Rick Owens Geobaskets, Raf Simons x Adidas Ozweego 2s, and even stuff a that retails for a little less but has a high resale price due to demand like Air Jordan 1 “Breds.” In most cases, grails are more of a statement piece, meant to be the focus of the outfit or to be shown off. With that being said, it is typically best to wear neutral or muted colors for the rest of the outfit. RESALE You’re not always going to be able to cop items you want at the retail price. For instance, Supreme has drops every Thursday at 11:00am EST when it’s in their season. The entire collection for a season doesn’t drop at once. Instead they drop a few things each week for a few months then close the webstore for a while to prepare for the next season. More often than not, a few items releasing have “hype” around them. These items typically sell out quickly, sometimes in seconds due to people using bots and just all around swiftness. If you are unable to buy a piece from the webstore before it sells out, your two options are to 1. give up and move on or 2. find someone reselling that item. Resale prices are generally much higher than the retail price. For instance, a Supreme Box Logo tee (which DO NOT release every season) would have a retail price of $32, but you’d be lucky to find a legit one for under $200, depending on condition. Typically, good places to find an item for resale are: this subreddit /r/supremeclothing eBay Grailed REMEMBER TO ALWAYS GET A LC (LEGIT CHECK) BEFORE YOU PURCHASE AN ITEM EVEN IF YOU THINK YOU KNOW ENOUGH TO SAY IT’S LEGIT. NOTHING COULD HURT WORSE THAN GETTING SCAMMED OUT OF YOUR MONEY FOR A FAKE. PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER There’s more to streetwear than just having a dope wardrobe. A big part of it is being able to put that wardrobe together into fashionable, cohesive fits. Having several expensive/rare pieces really isn’t worth much if you can’t work it into a fit well. The best advice I could give is to limit your loud pieces to only one per fit. “Loud” pieces could include pieces with bright colors, distracting prints or patterns, excessive branding, anything overly flashy, etc. If you’re wearing boots of any type, DO NOT wear shorts. High top sneakers with shorts are also not advised. The main reason for this is that it simply doesn't "look right". Pastel colors, particularly pink, blue, and mint green are trendy this season. These would go best with lighter neutral colors like white, cream, beige, etc. Every fit doesn’t need a hat or a lot of accessorizing. However they can definitely improve a fit when used well. If you need inspiration for your wardrobe, there are plenty of inspo albums on the sub. *Inspo albums are meant to provide inspiration for a general style. Not a “what should I wear with this one v specific item I’m thinking about getting?” or “look at the fades on all this raw denim.” There’s a ridiculous amount of shitty “inspo albums” on the sub too. Hopefully this helps some of you get started in streetwear and developing your wardrobe Edit: formatting submitted by /u/yungfluff to r/streetwear [link] [comments]
